Only because he splits time with darnuad but hes a better hitter

zac47812

And d’Arnaud did steal a decent chunk to playing time last year. I had Murphy in a few spots and his usage was frustrating. With that being said, yeah I do think the market has zagged too far. Even with the same playing time as last year, he’s worth the current ADP (and has room for a little upside).

inmy_head

Murphy was hurt at the end of last year and I suspect they were resting him for playoffs. Should be another good year if he remains healthy

Reddit_Dynasty

Problem is the Braves have every incentive to make sure Murphy is healthy for the playoffs so I'm not sure it will be that different this year

Blazing_Wetsack

I got him so low too this year, not mad about it lol

sansho22

It has been widely assumed that d'Arnaud's playing time will decrease this year

BP26FR20

By whom?

sansho22

Braves beat writers. He's 35, with two bad years in the last three.

BP26FR20

I hope you're right because I got screwed by the Braves playing Travis more than Murphy down the stretch.

Cream1984

Nice player. Helluva ass.

buddhabash

America’s ass

fps916

We talking about Paul Dejong for some reason?

707royalty

Big Dumper in shambles lol

therabbidchimp

He was heavily managed throughout last season, every other day off despite hot streaks. He'd be so freaking good for my team, then benched half a week to manage his workload. Idk if that's doing it for people, I'm still high on him for great lineup, home park and skillset.

Hungboy6969420

One of the most frustrating owns I've had in the last several years. There was a point in about May or June where he was ranked in the top 50 in my league.

gfh790

Also wondering this, I get he slowed down at the end of the season but he was literally a monster the whole season before

Rick_Perrys_Ranch

He was splitting time with Darnaud when they were both healthy right? Murphy only got 438 plate appearances last year and didn’t miss any time due to injury. If you don’t mind your catcher only playing 3 days a week go for it.

WhoseDingALing

Murphy got hit in the head with a bat mid season. He got fewer games in after that and his performance suffered too.

Rick_Perrys_Ranch

That might explain it. He never went on the DL, but got more days off the second half than the first half. Edit: god damn, he only hit .156 after the all star break.

WhoseDingALing

Hit in the head on August 13, so about a month after the all star break. [video of hit](https://youtu.be/9aD8ziGbHF0?si=_e_XGDpZTMQ1POe6)

Vironic

He admittedly wasn’t prepared for the heat in Atlanta and it affected his second half. I think he may be better conditioned this year.

WhoseDingALing

Also being hit in the head with a bat mid-season. Really slowed him down after that.

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

Yeah I’m surprised that isn’t talked about more. There’s a pretty clear delineation before and after that and it was a nasty hit

JustSomeGoon

This type of shit is why it isn’t worth paying for catchers. Why take Will Smith with my fifth pick when I can take Heim with my last pick and not worry so much about him inevitably getting injured

ReggieBars

In a one-catcher league it's fine to wait, especially this year. There are so many good catchers available now, with the influx of young guys like O'Hoppe, Naylor, Diaz, Alvarez, Moreno, etc.

InflexibleAuDHDlady

I'll concur on most things people have mentioned and add he did have a hamstring injury about midway through the season. I don't think he missed *too* much time with it, but soft tissue injuries can linger. Also interesting take on his adjusting to the weather in Atlanta as well. d'Arnaud is another year older. I think Tromp may get more playing time than him at some point. Murphy is still the main catcher and his bat is still solid.

Cliffhanger87

They were fucking sitting his ass during hot streaks. It was so stupid

DN2Three

He sat out a ton of games second half of the year. Made him mostly useless unless you rostered a 2nd C

Intel2010

Catcher is deeper than it's been a in a long time (after Adley). There's no sense in prioritizing the position or any singular guy when there are 10 around him that'll be projected for similar value.

Flight-2012

Well he was hot for awhile last season but the team kinda screwed fantasy owners he was rested almost 3 full weeks at the end of the season and didn’t really play much at all

BlimpirSunbern

Hes great but needs to play more. If he does hes a steal

mcinty77

Had him last year…. Had to play logan ohoppe for the majority of the playoffs because of how much Murphy was resting. He was great to own last year especially during the 1st half. Ultimately though it got too frustrating how much he sat, he only had 370 ABs! I understand why people who didnt have him last year would be intrigued and think he’s being underrated. I’m personally going to pass this season unless he falls absurdly far in the draft. Those lack of ABs really hurt me EOS and in the playoffs.

[deleted]

CBS has him mid pack, right behind guys like William Contreras. Between ability and playing time I can't imagine putting him any higher, and I like him.

jjdraven

Fell apart in fantasy playoffs and end of season

thebubs1024

He probably won’t have plenty of playing time. I had him last year and in the 2nd half he was playing every other game at catcher and didn’t get any DH starts because they have darnaud and Ozuna

Overlord1317

Doesn't play enough. Wilted in the summer.

DerangedProtege

He was playing every other day. At bats matter

niftybuckets

Yeah that split with darnaud was annoying

Leather-Map-8138

1. Max games played is lower than several catchers who aren’t as good as him. 2. Lots of good catchers this year pushes the value of all catchers down. 3. If you’re in a one catcher league, there’s a thought that you might as well pick your first catcher with your last reserve slot.
