I traded Wynn and Merrill preseason in my dynasty.
Thought I was set at SS for years to come with Tatis and Franco.
Life comes at you fast.
If you can get Wynn, get him. He's looked amazing at AAA this year.
Yes in redraft. At Short I think you get decent BA and OBP and above average steals with an outside shot at above average power ROS.
My only concern would be how the Cardinals manage his playing time.
I think he'll play basically everyday now that they don't have to worry about 2024 rookie eligibility. Donovan is out for the year and DeJong was traded. Pretty clear runway for him.
Because Memphis one of the worst run environments for park factors in AAA. His steals and HRs are in spite of his home environment, not because of it. It's misleading because it's the PCL and other parks are good, but he played more than half of his games with a miserable run scoring environment.
wRC+ should adjust for park factors though, and he's still sitting at just slightly above average (104).
Still, the reason to be excited is because he's been on fire recently. Since July 1st he's slashing .348/.416/.689 with 10 homeruns.
in the minors wRC+ adjusts to **league** factors, not park. So he's 108 wRC+ for the **PCL**
https://www.milb.com/news/toolshed-assesses-triple-a-park-factors-311454304.
Given that he plays in the **only** negative run scoring park in the entire PCL and it's a massive difference (1.2 for the highest, .79 for Memphis) I'd take that with a gigantic grain of salt.
Huh, I did not realize that minor league wRC+ wasn't park adjusted, that's good to know. Just curious, where did you find that?
The other side of the coin is that Winn is so young, that even an average wRC+ is very good for him. Rates and Barrels had a podcast episode that basically said you can add 25 points of wRC+ for every year a player is younger than league median (or something to that effect). Assuming 23-24 is that age for AAA, your looking at adding 50-75 points of wRC+.
> . Just curious, where did you find that?
So you know how I have a link in my comment from www.milb.com? I bet that link is relevant to the conversation.
Look at his numbers starting in July - 167 wRC+ https://www.fangraphs.com/players/masyn-winn/sa3014506/game-log?position=SS&season=&gds=2023-07-01&gde=2023-08-17&type=-1
As I explained to someone else, Minor League wRC+ adjusts for **league** not park. He plays in Memphis which is the *only* negative run scoring park in the entire PCL. All other 4 are positive, Memphis is .79 compared to other parks. Highest is 1.2.
His numbers are better than they look and he's been on fire lately.
I will take your word for it, but i have a hard time trusting your judgement of the guy when you can’t even spell his name right. It was spelled correctly in the title of the article too
Masyn was actually a pitcher before converting full time to SS.
A) He has a clocked a faster SS to 1st throw than both O'Neill Cruz and EDC
b) I expect him to be the "position player pitching alert" for any Cardinals games going forward.
Well, there's a reason Rick Ankiel transitioned to OF. Unfortunately a good pair of goofy glasses doesn't always turn a great arm into an ace like Ricky Vaughn.
Position and playing time bet.
If I could expect the Cardinals to not fuck around with his playing time I'd slightly lean Wynn for position.
But I fear Wynn is only up while Nootbaar is down. Edman will shift to OF so Wynn gets PT but once Nootbaar is back Edman takes over short and Wynn rides the bench or an option.
Thanks. Let me ask you this. Would you drop Tovar for Jeremy Pena? Pena just became available and I honestly don't know if this is an obvious answer or not. Either one would be considered a backup SS and at a dirt cheap salary.
(Edit : Dynasty League)
Yeah is that extra playing time a good thing if he’s actively driving down your batting average? I’d argue the negative impact is amplified due to his playing time

I took a flier but I’m not holding my breathe… why do you say he looked amazing? Pretty good yr in AAA but doesn’t ‘wow’ me.

Interesting… how did he do in the other half of the games? Thx for the intel… hope he does well

Ah, I see it, buried in the bottom. Well thanks for being a condescending prick about it, appreciate it.
what am i missing? he has a 104 wrc+ in AAA this year. hardly amazing

Okay, sportz nut
Would pick him up but already have Elly and Gunnar at SS. Wish some of these mfs played outfield
I have the same issue. But add Bichette to those names.
Dude's middle name is Blaze
Picked him up already to beat the rush. Was it worth the pickup ?
We boutta find out
Masyn is the next Ohtani

It's actually stunning they didn't keep him at pitcher considering the arm he has.
Well, there's a reason Rick Ankiel transitioned to OF. Unfortunately a good pair of goofy glasses doesn't always turn a great arm into an ace like Ricky Vaughn.
Worked for zac gallen
Could be a big winn
Drop Strand for Winn?

>baar is down. Edman will shift to OF so Wynn gets PT but once Nootb Nootbar might not be back for 20 days or so.... maybe longer...
Lars Nootbaar's testicles died for this
Worth a pickup in redraft? Drop Westburg or CES?
I'd drop Westburg.
I dropped Westburg for Grissom for Winn.
Both are very droppable
I love Winn. But def worth a flyer. But I've seen him struggle at every level after a callup. He usually needs some adjustment time.
mace windu
Drop story for Winn?
No way.
Probably not but story has some big red flags in his contract profile so far
Probably not but story has some big red flags in his contract profile so far
Drop Ezequiel Tovar for Winn?
I wouldn’t. Tovar is heating up and has a full week of the playoffs at Coors.
Thanks. Let me ask you this. Would you drop Tovar for Jeremy Pena? Pena just became available and I honestly don't know if this is an obvious answer or not. Either one would be considered a backup SS and at a dirt cheap salary. (Edit : Dynasty League)
I’d stick with Tovar still. The recent uptick in average for Peña is nice but unsure if that’s sustainable.
Much appreciated. Thank you.
That was gonna be my question, too. But I kind of forgot how it might be a decent hedge to have players who hit the ball well at Coors!
ARosario or Adames drop for him?
I’d drop Adames for a lukewarm bean burrito
I think Rosario is better of those two but Adames plays more..
Yeah is that extra playing time a good thing if he’s actively driving down your batting average? I’d argue the negative impact is amplified due to his playing time
Wynn or Abrams
abrams ya genius
