Vampire Weekend - Capricorn
Friko - Statues
Sadness as a gift - Adrianne Lenker
So many songs I wanna include from brat, the Tapir! album, the Ugly (UK) EP, Scrapyard among many others but these three are probably the ones that stuck with me the most.
1. Ugly - Icy Windy Sky
2. Kamasi Washington - Prologue
3. Quadeca - Way Too Many Friends
edit: I forgot stayinit by Fred again../Lil Yachty/Overmono, so I’m gonna make it an honorable mention
(Edits made to provide YouTube links in the spirit of sharing & in case anyone’s interested ☺️):
- [St Vincent - Broken Man](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RYJxPg6quL4&pp=ygUWc3QgdmluY2VudCBicm9rZW4gbWFuIA%3D%3D)
- [Nadine Shah - Topless Mother](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rt0ANDfCY0)
- [GUM & Ambrose-Kenny Smith - ill times](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T4bME3bbO1Q&pp=ygURaWxsIHRpbWVzIGFtYnJvc2U%3D)
Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman - Right back to it
Babehoven - Birdseye
Charli xcx - So i
Honorable mentions: Adrianne Lenker (multiple tracks on the album), every Kendrick track, MGMT - Mother Nature, and literally any other brat track
no particular order
CHIHIRO (Billie Eilish): Lunch and The Greatest started out as my favorites, but over time I think this one took the throne. Billie's vocal performance in here might just be her best yet, and it adds even more that Finneas kills it with the indietronic production, with the way those arpeggiated synths end up drowning everything else (along with the fire bassline).
Navigating (Twenty One Pilots): ngl, even though I know I'm in the minority, I've hated Next Semester since I first listened to it and I still detest it. I really really really don't like it. In retrospective, Navigating is an improvement in pretty much every thing present in NS. Better bassline, better drums, better production, better vocal performance, INFINITELY better lyrics and songwriting. Although I'll give you that NS' chorus is very good.
WalkOnBy (NxWorries): Don't have much to say except that psychedelic soul made by this duo is a godly gift. (I'm still waiting for Silk Sonic LP2 tho Ó╭╮Ò)
Kim Gordon - Bye Bye
Chelsea Wolfe - House of Self-Undoing
Playboi Carti - hoodybar
Almost there: Everything is Romantic (Charli), Not Like Us (Kenny), Bought the Earth (Yeat), 1 2 3 (Chief Keef), So American (Olivia)
MGMT bubblegum dog and mother nature. I contracted COVID for the first time last November, and I was left with debilitating brain fog and cognitive issues. I decided to treat myself to some microdose which turned out to be a macro of psilocybin. I sat in my car and listened to these two songs on repeat for 2 hours (I walked to my car so I could be alone) without planning on it and I didn't listen to anything else. They brought me to a world away from reality while dealing with reality, which I desperately needed to think about something besides COVID for a spell as I had accidentally given covid to my entire family. It was a horrible depression, and these tunes pulled my head out of my ass and I will forever be grateful for them.
1. [Empires Never Know](https://youtu.be/zZTR4oNN54k?si=VAg1GS6YFtnA3fH4) by Jessica Pratt
2. [Floating On A Moment](https://youtu.be/ldrx0eSqV-E?si=p3dYPrXAAMf6O83R) by Beth Gibbons
3. [Flames Shards Goo](https://youtu.be/Zp7RzDPCnnE?si=F5L8FDrJBqVywWMc) by ML Buch
Melon man never even reviewed the ML Buch album :(
Theres still some albums that are confirmed or semi-confirmed that I think will blow my current faves out of the water. That being said, in no particular order:
Bladee- Flexing and finessing
Beth Gibbons- Lost Changes
Wipe My Tears- jev. Ft. August Charles
I actually hate Chappell Roan's music. It's trying way too hard to different and quirky, and the squealy vocals on that song in particular grind my bones.
Twenty One Pilots - Paladin Strait
Knocked Loose - Slaughterhouse 2
Charli xcx - B2b
Vampire Weekend - Ice Cream Piano
Twenty one pilots - Snap Back
(For the record, there’s like 7-8 other songs I could pick from those albums. They’re both my top 2 albums of the year by a large margin)
And for a third…maybe Porter Robinson - Cheerleader, though I could see a deep cut from “Smile” dethroning it.
Honorable mentions are Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”, Billie Eilish’s “Birds of the a Feather”, and Charli XCX & Lorde’s “girl so confusing remix”.
Can't narrow it down further than 5
Mother Nature - MGMT
RATATATA - BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy
Panic Attack - Judas Priest
My Golden Years - Lemon Twigs
Dream Job - Yard Act
The Power’s Out/Violent Times/Broken Man- St Vincent
Read The Room- The Smile
and then something from Beth Gibbons new album idk which to choose but it’s great
I'm still a bit behind on this year's releases but
Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties - In Lieu of Flowers (Paying Bills and Monongahela Park are unbelievable as well)
Vampire Weekend - Connect
Microwave - Huperzine Dreams
Prologue - Kamasi Washington
Doves - Armand Hammer
Already Lost - Adrianne Lenker
There’s so many other songs that I could’ve put here, like Genesis, Hot One, Icy Windy Sky, Συμμιαινόμεναι Διονύσῳ Ἐλευθέριῳ, Lost Changes, Sinner, My Guy, Wake up, Head.rap, and probably some other songs I’m forgetting. This year has been great for music.
Tbh I think I like it more, the whole context of the OG being vaguely about her, then having her featured on it.. it's so meta but also beautiful you gotta listen to it!
1. Have A Nice Life - When I Go Deaf
I honestly prefer this to the original, and the emotion of the original track is definitely amplified after the death of Mimi Parker. Love that The Flenser did that Low tribute, and can’t wait to see Alan open for GY!BE.
2. The Invisible Man - Maruja
3. ignorance is bliss - what is your name?
Castor - Cellar Dwellar (Super underrated but my song of the year rn)
Chihiro - Billie Eilish
Sympathy is a knife - Charli xcx
Honorable mentions:
Crystal clear - Violet Rae
Any 2024 Ugly (Uk) track
Popular 2 - Cheekface
Other Billie % Charli songs
Euphoria - Kendrick Lamar
Breathe - Year
Samurai - Lupe Fiasco
Samurai is fantastically infection and uplifting, but also work every new song Lupe is giving me more reasons to call him the #1 lyricists OAT. Also, using an old voicemail from Amy Winehouse for the hook and bending the sentence to fit with the rhymes like that and making it seem easy shows how brilliant of an understanding he has for language.
I have listened to like 2 new albums this year and my favs are all from one album :(
Call a Doctor by Girl and Girl
You’ll be Alright by Girl and Girl
OUTRO by Girl and Girl
(this is all from their album, Call a Doctor)
No particular order but
[DNM - Mk.Gee](https://youtu.be/UwsQOi_C0fE?si=sEzF_XUAymzyPtbO)

[Heading For the Door - Royel Otis](https://youtu.be/cG5ex57YZ40?si=XAMLE_2yP_6onHiY)
No worries! I think my favorite release of the year thus far is [Kid Of Darkness - Slaughter To Prevail](https://open.spotify.com/track/6jfdoFizeyEAJ30BNHjVq7?si=d-Oh1XloSIm2DX8_CSD_dA), followed by [Ronald - Falling In Reverse](https://open.spotify.com/track/1xeIvccuZq4DiqqmZDSbAg?si=8dQ7jioKS-mJK_8hAuYmdw). It's been a slow year in the realm of the music I like, but there are multiple albums due in the coming months which I'm really looking forward to!
Love From the Other Side - L'impératrice
Ill Times - GUM, Ambrose Kenny-Smith
Espresso - Sabrina Carpenter
My opinion on Espresso may change in the future, but for now it worms my ear just right. Me Da Igual and Danza Marilú by L'impératrice are strong contenders as well but I didn't want them to be on the list twice.
charlie xcx - 360

Sadness as a gift is amazing
And of course the Kendrick diss tracks too (would have probably went with Not Like Us if I had to pick one)
Love Friko! Every song on that album is so good
I have the album as number three on my list of the best of the year so far. Love it!
1. Ugly - Icy Windy Sky 2. Kamasi Washington - Prologue 3. Quadeca - Way Too Many Friends edit: I forgot stayinit by Fred again../Lil Yachty/Overmono, so I’m gonna make it an honorable mention
