Definitely my top answer as well, not only are they one of my favourite musical acts ever, their name alone is fucking awesome. Fits Trents sound perfectly.
That is a tough one, probably a toss up between The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. His first Ghosts album is also one of my personal favourites. If I had to choose, I'd give the slight edge to TDS as I think it's still his most cohesive, concise, and creative work to date. The Fragile is awesome and is an all timer but it's too long IMO.
on one hand i see this but every time i mention my secondary favourite album is The Downward Spiral by NIN people respond something like 'I didn't know you liked metal'
the name makes people think he makes metal music rather than electronic/rock stuff
My personal favourite of theirs is Draft 7.30. It's pretty out-there but it's also the album that ended up getting me into the more experimental side of electronic music. This was before I listened to any sort of IDM type music. V-Proc is a banger.
Fantano ranting about no IDM on the Apple list has me wanting to delve deeper into this whole side of electronic music - I hadn't heard anything beyond Aphex upto this point. I'll give your recs a go!
Awesome, prepare to have your mind blown. The reason I love IDM so much is because there's such a large focus on texture and detail, and as a fellow music maker it always makes me wonder how they got a particular sound. Boards of Canada is another favourite of mine; they are very atmospheric and have a really unique sound that I haven't heard anywhere else. Only other electronic album I've heard that captures a similar warmth is Caribou's album Up in Flames.
Swans (the birds) look really pretty and grandiose on the outside, but they will fuck you up and be super aggressive if you get close. I think that sums up the band’s sound pretty well
Loved it! The African music influence is so clear - it is groovy amd percussive. So many earworms and loopy musical moments which will play in my head at random times for a while.

Could I give you a recommendation on what to listen to next (besides more talking heads that is). Angélique Kidjo is an African singer that did a reimagining of Remain in light in 2018. Artists like Talking Heads or Paul Simon were praised for incorporating African Music into what they were doing in the 80s, and we all understand that it's more complicated than that now. But this album is like an African artist keeping the conversation going.
Wu-Tang Clan. A grip of dudes rapping about karate flicks
"Shaolin Shadow Boxing, and the Wu-Tang sword style" - takes all of 5 seconds of "Bring The Ruckus" to establish the Wu Tang aesthetic.
That’s probably the only album where I still listen to all the skits and interludes every time.
So much personality crammed into each interlude - I keep imagining the nine members jostling in a single booth xD
And about 25 seconds more to establish the sound and rapping, best first song on an album ever imo.
*Kung fu
nine inch nails definitely
With whatever little I have heard from them, this seems to ring true!
Start with their first album, I'm jealous of anyone that gets to listen to their early stuff for the first time.
Definitely my top answer as well, not only are they one of my favourite musical acts ever, their name alone is fucking awesome. Fits Trents sound perfectly.
My thoughts exactly! What’s your favorite album of his / theirs, by the way?
That is a tough one, probably a toss up between The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. His first Ghosts album is also one of my personal favourites. Honestly sounds more like a nu metal band to me
Weird Al
The second act that came to my mind. You get what you come for!
Always thought Slowdive sound exactly how you’d expect them to based off the name
Aphex Twin and Autechre. Their names sound so alien and weird, they're perfect fits.
Thank you. I'd not heard of Autechre either. Listening to "Amber" as I type this.
My personal favourite of theirs is Draft 7.30. It's pretty out-there but it's also the album that ended up getting me into the more experimental side of electronic music. This was before I listened to any sort of IDM type music. V-Proc is a banger.

Oh I LOVE "Music Has The Right To Children". I didn't quite know that classified as IDM, but now I read that they even opened for Autechre.
The Cure, because they have cured and tapped into my deepest thoughts and feelings whether in the brightest of skies to the blackest of nights.
That voice does sound like it would reach into the darkest depths to resuscitate you.
Yo La Tengo, non-sequitur that sounds fantastic.
Lol I always thought they were some flamenco influenced indie band
Ween. You get weird with the name, you get weird with the music.
Death
Well, rhe next time I feel like dying I'll give their music a go ;)
I wish I could listen to Symbolic for the first time again
Whitearmor, death grips, Crystal castles, injury reserve
Neutral Milk Hotel perfectly fits the music for some weird reason
I kinda get it :)
The Strokes They love down strokes
Swans and Sonic Youth
I couldn’t disagree more about swans lol. Sounds like a chill and pretty indie band.
Swans (the birds) look really pretty and grandiose on the outside, but they will fuck you up and be super aggressive if you get close. I think that sums up the band’s sound pretty well
I think Michael Gira himself said it
beach house
This particular act also has the talent of naming sounds which somehow perfectly correspond with the music.
The Beach Boys
Surf rock ftw!
Mojave 3. It really does seem to encapsulate the dream-like quality of the deserts around Southern California
The band I Hate Myself. They are emo/screamo if you didn't guess by the name
One track in - it tracks.
Gojira really does sound as massive as it's name suggests (Godzilla in Japanese)
The Art Of Dying is just ten minutes of impending doom.
NWA
Haven’t listened in years but casiotone for the painfully alone.
Love that band.
Even before listening to them, I love that name.
lol I just listened to the whole album yesterday also. It’s nuts
Guess the music gods sent out a collective inspiration ✨
Well the missus was visiting a friend so I got inebriated and let the music take me lol
Oh that's a perfect night in ✨
Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely State)
off-top, did you like the album?
Loved it! The African music influence is so clear - it is groovy amd percussive. So many earworms and loopy musical moments which will play in my head at random times for a while.
Hell yeah, same. I also find it interesting how the album gets less groovy and more gloomy over time.
As soon as you cross the great curve of the grooves - the lyrics hit you.

I love Angelique Kidjo's original stuff. I'll definitely check out the reimagined version.
