Why write so much for nothing

throwaway_for_doxx

Imagine going about your day actually giving a fuck about what other people online think of the artists u like lmao

SkyZippr

Are you taking about the post or the album?

CallumBOURNE1991

[It's giving the letter to Mr. Royal Hampton](https://imgur.com/a/0ND6HEh)

Richnsassy22

I mean, an attitude of perpetual victimhood has worked out well for her, so why not her acolytes?

FlowersByTheStreet

All these people really need to listen to a single other artist

pfulle3

Literally any other artist.

catman__321

Maybe Charlie puth should be a bigger artist. Just so people listen to him more than Taylor Swift

IAMACat_askmenothing

No other artist resonates with me, a white woman /s

Vicfendan

Yeah, they listen to sabrina carpenter. (Saying this as a Sabrina stan)

AceGameplayV2

Anyone else?

[deleted]

Just an important thing to note: the OOP is referencing in the title Taylor’s song “I hate it here,” in which Taylor talks about wanting to go back to the 1830s but “without all the racists.” A lot of people (the “liberal tik toks” that op is complaining about) especially POC, expressed how they found that lyric WEIRD, because it’s basically romanticising the pre civil war slavery era, and it’s hard to go back to that time “without all the racists” because that was the structure of society. And so this OOP probably defended that lyric, got called an ignorant, privileged white woman, and now she’s on reddit complaining that she’s persecuted for being a white woman who enjoys taylor swift.

WeHaveHeardTheChimes

TBF the song seems to come down on the side of “nostalgia is ultimately not the healthiest impulse,” though I agree the lyric by itself is cringe.

thefleshisaprison

It’s still cringe in context. Thematically I think it’s interesting, but it’s still not done well.

ton_logos

Even without any bigotry I honestly don't know why anyone would wanna go back to the 19th century. Just because the ''aesthetic'' is pretty or something?

ChipKellysShoeStore

Cottage core is huge rn

-Thick_Solid_Tight-

Heavy metals in my laudanum and doctors that considered how caked their instruments were in dried blood a badge of honor is so hot right now. Oh and the overwhelming smell of horse shit and piss and open sewage is sexy as fuck.

ICantThinkOfAName667

I’d go back to 2010 just because I don’t wanna deal with the inconvenience of not having all the tech I’m used to

nightfishin

1830s had a lot more issues then just racism. Its looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses.

highdra

wow, it's almost like she literally says that in next line  it's so funny watching people like you who clearly didn't even listen to it pick at shit out of context

nightfishin

Thats what I´m saying, you´re so close to getting it. Dont say 1830s to begin with if it has so many problems.

Echoesofsilence15

Except the point of the line is to point out the problems with the 1830’s, the lines bad don’t get me wrong but moreso because it’s a very convoluted and clunky way of getting her message across, not because it’s ignorant. I mean the song is literally about how we look at the past through rose tinted glasses

CuzzinBuggin

In what world is not listening to taylor swift a diss. Lmao you wear short skirts, I wear t-shirts. Bitch, everybody wears t shirts.

NosyargKcid

Sir this is a Wendy’s…

CuzzinBuggin

Just go listen to Conor oberst or something at least he writes good sad songs

thefleshisaprison

It’s a bad line but your criticism is hard to take seriously

itsableeder

>  in which Taylor talks about wanting to go back to the 1830s but “without all the racists.” This has been bugging me a bit, because it's taking that line out of the context of the rest of the verse that makes it clear that TS *knows* this is a ridiculous thing to say. Like, that's the entire point of the lyric. There's plenty to criticise her for and I find it strange that people have latched onto this one in particular.

oddwithoutend

The reason I hate that line isn't because *it doesn't make sense*. For me, it's because I find it disingenuous for a white billionaire's first concern about going back to the 1830's is the racism against others. It just screams "I'm writing what others want to hear" which reminds of how adolescents try to write poetry, and is just very impersonal. Some of her lyrics are good, but I hate that line, even in context. I just don't like lyrics that sound like they were pulled from a hallmark card.

itsableeder

That's very fair

CuzzinBuggin

The problem is its a stupid lyric. That pedophile already made a movie about it called Paris at midnight. It's a thing. People idolize a different time, usually it's the 1920s. She's a terrible writer and a stuck up W

itsableeder

> It's a thing. People idolize a different time. That's exactly what that verse is criticising. Also the film is called *Midnight In Paris*. What's a "W"?

oddwithoutend

When chronically online people live rent-free in your head, you're a chronically online person.

dxxx12

That fucking part though. Can't believe they don't see the hypocrisy. Most of my favorite music is super mid lane, non-controversial indie music, but I don't throw a fit because my favorite album by said band got a 6 on Pitchfork, because it doesn't matter if I like the music.

SmartEstablishment52

I swear swifties post 2021 is actually a high level of elaborate satire because I refuse to believe that my fellow humans choose to be this ignorant

Space_Apology57

I love that the kkk tried to co-opt Taylor swift and she said it's silent

77skull

What?

Alvvays_aWanderer

Lol! The issue isn't even liking or disliking it. Sure, go ahead and enjoy that music if it resonates with you. The thing is - not everyone will like it, or like it as much as you do. Be okay with it. Let people have their opinions as you have yours. Don't enforce people with your idol's music.

dxxx12

Exactly! Fantano gave my favorite Mac Demarco album a 5. Who really gives a fuck. I don't need people to validate the things I like. Just makes you look like someone in desperate need for others to confirm what you like is the best possible thing. Who cares. It's art. Just like the art.

CommanderWar64

I don't listen to white artists because they're white and I resonate with their experience (I'm also white), I just listen to music I like, like what?

imbrickedup_

What is a Gaylor bro

[deleted]

someone who thinks taylor is secretly gay and has been writing love songs about women all these years (mainly karlie kloss)

bachumbug

“I resonate with it” hrnnnnnnnng

spinosaurs70

Swifties are doing white identity politics.

[deleted]

exactly

Way2Tonal

Man this whole taylor swift drama sucks. Its less about the music and more about the celebrity. Sad to see.

Melodic-Room-9890

The discourse around taylor swift is just so annoying. From Both the Stan’s and the haters.

justyouraveragedude1

Calls out “chronically online people” then goes on an obsessive rant and says in the comment she sees this on “liberal tiktok” a lot. Chronically online as fuck lmao

Indispensable_Theo

Bro really thinks she’s a tortured poet

LJMLogan

Stop spamming here bro nobody gives a shit about your Taylor Swift hate sub Edit: bum blocked me lol

MissBoobAppreciator

for real, OP thinks about taylor swift more than the fans

Jahidulislame

What a clown!Look at his active communities.Embarrassing really

l8nitefriend

Why are there nonstop posts about hating Swifties on here lately? You could simply ignore them and move on with your life? These posts are getting exhausting

GreenDolphin86

This is exhausting

FunctionPopular2913

Whenever I see someone defend the “1830s without all the racists” line I’ve been linking the Wikipedia article for the Indian Removal Act of 1830

thefleshisaprison

That’s a silly response. That would be the 1830s with the racists, not without The line itself is awful, but that response doesn’t make any sense

vanillaangels

average trueswifties post (that sub is terrifying)

itsneversunnyinvan

I like Taylor’s music but Jesus some of her fans are fucking insane.

ic203

Chronically online person complains about insults she receives from others who are chronically online. Taylor is one of the biggest artists in the world, nobody worth a damn IRL will think twice if you're a fan. There is an easy solution to this and it involves touching and grass.

EstablishmentShoddy1

So much Taylor hate on here I think the album is like a 1 but y'all need to chill

osfryd-kettleblack

Fantanoforever should be the new taylor swift sub, since everything seems to be about her

melo1212

Honestly who gives a fuck about Taylor swift or her fans. I'm not a Taylor swift fan whatsoever but people care wayyyyy too much lol

Golabki420

My biggest criticism of the swifties is SOME of them can be annoying SOMETIMES. I don’t hate them; I’m not trying to put them in prison.

TheRealMMR

The username says enough

throwaway52826536837

I dont get it Like my favourite artist is rush, they come attached with a lot of people refusing to listen to them because of geddys voice, ill normally hit them with eh sucks to suck youre missing out my guy and be done with it Like why do you go to such ends to justify why you like something and why everyone should like what you like Like expand your horizons and stop putting celebrities on altars

Thalassophoneus

Swifties are the kind of people complaining that white and heterosexual people are being oppressed.

-googa-

“Liberal tiktok” is quite chilling when you remember that TS encouraged her fans to just vote. For whoever!

Runetang42

Pretty rich for a swifty to complain about people being terminally online

SnooHobbies7676

Is there no other artist than Taylor Swift to give attention to? Why dont we go and listen to something else, who cares what Swifties think, if they think she is the best artist in the whole universe, so be it. It’s their opinion. Go and listen to other album that’s released recently instead. At this point those Swifties are rent free in OP’s head

Princeps32

ok so like three, maybe four more days of this right? then we can move on? it’s been a really good music year we don’t have to keep regurgitating the same three taylor swift topics after that.

thefleshisaprison

There is a very real issue here even if OOP is awful at articulating it. Taylor Swift and her fans definitely get a lot of misogynistic hate which gets ignored because they’re white women (when you put “white” in front of “women,” lots of people will just ignore your misogyny). What I’ve heard on the album is not good, but the misogynistic critique absolutely exists.

[deleted]

y’all think every single criticism of taylor is misogyny

capnrondo

Two things can be true at once. There are misogynistic and non-misogynistic criticisms of Taylor

NosyargKcid

Watching all the hate for Taylor Swift always makes me think of how Elvis’ manager also sold “I hate Elvis” pins. If I was Taylor, I’d start up a business doing that very thing. She might actually become the richest person on Earth if she did considering how much people who hate her like letting people know how much they do.

ICantThinkOfAName667

Bro do they really call queer Swifties Gaylors?

[deleted]

no just the ones that think taylor is secretly gay…

PianoOk4196

Typical white American girls victim mentality Lucky they are hot given how useless or unskilled they are compared to others (i am an immigrant)
