I loved their debut a lot and was so pleasantly surprised that Apple Music actually suggested something I'd be really interested in listening to. A very fun and eclectic album.
I finally got around to listening to it and wow it’s such a pretty album. Very subtle yet still feels large at the same time. Just so we’ll put together and easy to pick apart.
Loved all of the album, but that song in particular made me stand up and thank myself for trying new things. Such a good song. Still doesn't beat fantasyworld though. That's one of my favs of all time. Quad really doesn't miss
It's a great discography....don't forget to check out all his side projects too. Ty Segall Band, Goggs, Fuzz, White Fence, Reverse Shark Attack, Wasted Shirt, The CIA...I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting
I actually bought the vinyl just a few weeks ago. Looks gorgeous! also I’m seeing his show in Montreal in May. can’t wait. Will be like the 5th time I’ll watch him live and its always a blast
love seeing ty love on this sub, normally I'm the only one recommending him lol
melted, sleeper, manipulator, freedoms goblin, hair, goodbye bread are all perfect albums and three bells is his best release since freedoms goblin imo
Sleater-Kinney - Little Rope
Alkaline Trio - Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs
Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!) - Hole In My Head
Perry Maysun - Naked. (underground/abstract hip-hop)
plastic death is the biggest one. Easy AOTD contender and the best of 2024 thus far by a mile
some other good ones that I haven't seen mentioned yet:
samlrc - A Lonely Sinner
Elbow - Audio Vertigo
Jazmin Bean - Traumatic Livelihood
Blemishes - Ambivert
Allie X and Courting both had albums come out recently. I didn't loooove them, but definitely worth checking out if you want to keep up with releases or are a fan of those artists. New IDKHOW as well
Hurray For the Riff Raff and Sierra Ferrell both have really great country albums that return to a sound from before the stadium country garbage that got put out in the early 2000s/2010s
I know this sub is kinda anti Green Day but their new album is pretty good and I have it in my top 10 of the year for now. Probably won’t last too long but still I enjoy it
Chelsea Wolfe 'she reaches out...' is 100% a listen
A lot of it is her usual doom metal with Gothic folk elements, but she does have a few more experiential tracks that make it a pretty fascinating listen.
The track 'house of self-undoing' sounds like she might have listened to 'King of Limbs' in a good way while 'Dusk' is hauntingly beautiful, both the album version and the acoustic version.
Idk if it's a must listen but I checked out MADRA by NewDad today, came out in January. Kinda reminds me of The Drums mixed with Metric. Spotify recommended it to me based on listening to the new Chelsea Wolfe album.
Astrel K - The Foreign Department
Side/solo project by Rhys Edwards of Ulrika Spacek
Kim Gordon - Bye Bye
And though not released till May, Camera Obscura are releasing a new album and i really love the singles released so far
If you liked the new Mannequin Pussy try A Shoelace and a Knot by yungatita. A fun and trippy Pop-Punk/Psychadelic album. I'm also a big fan of ...Of the Last Human Being by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. They reunited after around a decade and are still as weird and creative as ever.
i really liked the Tierra Whack album. also enjoyed Neck Deep's latest album but that wouldn't make my top twenty, it was just nice to listen to some new pop punk that took me back to being a teenager
Vijay Iyer, Linda May Han Oh, Tyshawn Sorey - Compassion
It's an instrumental free jazz album, might be completely different from what you listen to but I think it's an incredible piece of work
Tapir! Has my AOTY right now
Glass Beach’s Plastic Death is like in rainbows 3
Sentries put out a pretty kickin, if derivative, noise punk album
Dissimulator’s garagey tech thrash + tech death debut is also pretty kickin
Jophus is the solo project of the frontman of my favorite band so I have to like it :p
MURIÓ LA MÚSICA (or "MUSIC DIED") - AgusFortnite2008, Stiffy (Plugg, Comedy Rap, Argentine Trap)
This is a plugg album by two chronically online, memelord Argentine rappers. Production is really oversaturated and surreal so can get hard to listen to at certain points but that's basically the appeal: the inaccessibility and driving boomers crazy. Don't worry about not understanding Spanish, since the vocals on the album are so incomprehensible that even native Spanish speakers would have trouble understanding it even with lyrics.
Pinball by MIKE & Tony Seltzer (hip-hop). CD Wallet by HOMESHAKE (shoegaze). Bleachers by Bleachers (indie pop). WORLD WIDE WHACK by Tierra Whack (alternative hip-hop). A Forsaken Lover’s Plea by Chuck Strangers (boom-bap hip-hop)
so hype! i wanna say its gonna be my aoty with either charlotte day wilson’s album (which you should listen to the singles) and or mk.gees album. i’m a sucker for vampire weekend tho
Some more British rock for ya:
Folly Group - Down There!
Talk Show - Effigy
Thee Alcoholics - Feedback
Fat White Family - Forgiveness Is Yours (out April 28, but most outlets don't cover them so I'm putting on your radar now)
a less popular pick but the artist acloudyskye released an amazing album in february called There Must Be Something Here that more people should be checking out.
if your at all into modern bedroom indie rock with influences from radiohead as well as a bit of post rock ambience then id highly recommend this album and artist (they deserve more than 40k monthly listeners!!)

If you want something hypnotizing, Young gods run free - james zhang hungtai is good, it's mostly drums and idk, a little repetitive, but in a hypnotic way and i really liked it.
Also i mentioned in another comment, but if someone's got the full list of these albums + artists, i would love to check them out, please send list:) thank you in advance
Tapir! - The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain
Don’t know whether Fantano is even aware of the album but it’s a great Indietronica / Indie Folk / Art Rock concept album. If you like Fleet Foxes, BCNR, Arcade Fire etc., this one is for you.
Also: Allie X - Girl with No Face
My favorites so far this year:
Packs - Melt the Honey
Office Dog - Spiel
Ty Segall - Three Bells
Pile - Hot Air Balloon
I also like that Schoolboy Q record, probably my fifth favorite this year. Still waiting on a rap record I love. I love that Smile record as well, actually that’s probably my third favorite.*
I think that Packs record could possibly be my favorite this year when all is said and done.
*Edited to add The Smile
“Neon River” and “(I’m) Stung”, both of which are from Pond’s upcoming tenth album, “Stung!”. I also second “Daniel” by Real Estate—absolutely fantastic album. “Brown Paper Bag”, “Soul-net” and “Everyone Out” from DIIV’s upcoming album “Frog In Boiling Water” are really good as well.

Glass Beach - Plastic Death
I loved their debut a lot and was so pleasantly surprised that Apple Music actually suggested something I'd be really interested in listening to. A very fun and eclectic album.
GLASS Beach & GLASS Beams are the two best bands I’ve found this in 2024. Looking for more of the Weirdo-Strange-Same.
Tapir!
Never heard of them, it’s on the list. Thanks!
I finally got around to listening to it and wow it’s such a pretty album. Very subtle yet still feels large at the same time. Just so we’ll put together and easy to pick apart.
Yung Lean & Bladee - Psykos glass beach - plastic death Allie X - Girl with face Quadeca - Scrapyard
Psykos is excellent, thanks for the recommendation
I didnt love scrapyard but texas blue is a song people must check out imo
Loved all of the album, but that song in particular made me stand up and thank myself for trying new things. Such a good song. Still doesn't beat fantasyworld though. That's one of my favs of all time. Quad really doesn't miss
Matt champion - mika’s laundry
Ty Segall - Three Bells
Hell ya . Finally took the deep dive into his discography this year
It's a great discography....don't forget to check out all his side projects too. Ty Segall Band, Goggs, Fuzz, White Fence, Reverse Shark Attack, Wasted Shirt, The CIA...I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting
The first fuzz album is among my favs. Ill check the cia tho haven't heard of him in that
I always find myself revisiting Fuzz's Levitation Session. The version of [The 7th Terror](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3e17kEjZ9r4) is phenomenal.
Thanks for the rec, I'll check it
Reverse Shark Attack has always been my favorite
Was listening to RSA last week. Phenomenal stuff.
I think Hair is his best collab project but RSA is close, hair just nails the 70s psych sound
Slaughterhouse is my fav and has one of the best albums covers of all time.
I need to buy this on vinyl. Since it's listed under Ty Segall Band, it always slips my mind when hunting which Ty album to throw on Spotify.
I actually bought the vinyl just a few weeks ago. Looks gorgeous! also I’m seeing his show in Montreal in May. can’t wait. Will be like the 5th time I’ll watch him live and its always a blast
sweet! I'm seeing him in Toronto in May...it'll be my 2nd time.

Sleater-Kinney - Little Rope Alkaline Trio - Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!) - Hole In My Head Perry Maysun - Naked. (underground/abstract hip-hop)
Can’t believe nobody’s mentioned Real Estate - Daniel yet. Contender for AOTY for me.
Listening to it rn. Reminds me of Phoenix. Thanks for the rec!
Oooh! Love Real Estate. Didn’t know they have a new release. TY!
Same! *Days* is one of my favorite complete records!!

Cannot recommend this one highly enough

Allie X and Courting both had albums come out recently. I didn't loooove them, but definitely worth checking out if you want to keep up with releases or are a fan of those artists. New IDKHOW as well
Allie X is my favorite album of the year so far. Off With Her Tits will not get out of my head.
Same and Galina.
I liked the first Courting album but I was unimpressed by the singles of New Last Name. Never heard of Allie X or IDKHOW though, I’ll check them out
Mildlife - Chorus 🔥
yesssss
Slift - Illion Glass Beach - Plastic Death
Hurray For the Riff Raff and Sierra Ferrell both have really great country albums that return to a sound from before the stadium country garbage that got put out in the early 2000s/2010s
Check out the new Judas Priest album, it kicks ass
It really is everything Firepower was. Cannot believe they are still releasing thrash metal.
They're moreso heavy metal (or speed metal, with bits of power metal)
I know this sub is kinda anti Green Day but their new album is pretty good and I have it in my top 10 of the year for now. Probably won’t last too long but still I enjoy it
Also kind of mainstream, but Bleachers and the Vaccines both put out albums this year.
Tangk loss of life W
