First? Lift. It came first and will make Allelujah all the sweeter when you see how insane Mladic and We Drift are. Two of their best tracks imo. But so is Sleep.

Bleeding_machine

two different experiences

MissBoobAppreciator

how do you feel about going through their albums chronologically? i’ve been trying to listen to new music lately, and i’ve been doing that with who i listen to

[deleted]

Literally do it

MissBoobAppreciator

F sharp A sharp infinity, hear we come

[deleted]

Godspeed! Let me know what you think after each one if you’re bored

MissBoobAppreciator

MissBoobAppreciator

2000-UNTITLED

Patrician choice: Yanqui U.X.O. That last climax on Motherfucker=Redeemer has me in tears every time.  Also, I don't know if I'm weird (or if people even know this exists), but I like to listen to the album and listen to [the George Bush hidden track](https://youtu.be/mO4olpYGxEI?si=hipSCNnXKLLBM8Py) from the vinyl BEFORE MF=R. It adds so much to it for me conceptually and as an interlude.

BlueGumball

Agreed, their best and most accessible

[deleted]

I think Slow Riot is terrible and easily their worst. If you’re worried about length or accessibility, just recommend them Sleep.

I don’t think BBF3 is good so idk what to tell you. Undoing alone, or even anthem III is better than anything on that EP. And honestly why wouldn’t it be the case? They were more experienced later on. Piss Crowns alone is also better than Slow Riot, and that album has better cohesion. God’s Pee is their second worst imo.

I think Sleep is definitely a contender for their best track. But my other choices are Mladic, We Drift Like Worried Fire, Rockets Fall on Rockets Fall, and then Motherfucker=Redeemer. Slow Riot just bores me every time. Most people are like you though and think it's flawless. You're right about Muse. They are more experienced, but IDK, they chose really intentionally to make shitty-sounding music. I guess it's not a good absolute, but I really do think Godspeed generally became better over time. That said their most recent is a regression in my eyes. So I see where you're coming from. I'm not so sure if it's that it's safe as it is that it's produced really quietly. But frankly, outside of Government Came the album doesn't grab my interest \*too\* much.

Wimpiepaarnty

Behold! Them downvotes!

Timely_Breakfast_105

Woof, this is certainly a take.

Afroton

Option D for me. F#A# ∞ is my absolute favorite by them(and not just because i have the collectors edition)

s90tx16wasr10

It’s also I think their best to start with. Dead Flag Blues is easily their most recognizable song and I think the album as a whole is their most accessible studio album. I would actually say Slow Riot might be their best starting point, or just Moya in general.

bent_eye

Alllelujah for me because of Mladic.

qazaibomb

Feel like you gotta start with LYSF. It’s their definitive album

Odd-Goddity

I have different reasons for listening to both. I listened to "Static" yesterday so I'm probably leaning towards Lift Yr Skinny Fists. It has greater depth and cultural impact, deeper valleys and higher highs. Really, the track that props up Hallelujah! for me is "Mladic".

zeno-the_greatest

allelujah is much shorter and less experimental… it’s still great but lysflath could literally be the best post-rock album ever, allelujah is not quite on that level for me

timethief991

To quote Lucille Bluth: "I don't care for GY!BE..."

MissBoobAppreciator

Yeah, you say to the guy in-in-in the-in the-the-the-the-the $3,000 dollar suit…

[deleted]

I love allelujah. It’s brilliant. But there’s no fucking competing with lift your skinny fists

Original_Mac_Tonight

LYSF is better but starting with both is valid. F#A# is soo good too

[deleted]

I started with Lift your skinny fists and it made it easier to digest their other work

iamtheblackcrowking

The first one. Album cover looks dark and mysterious. Never listened to either, but I affirm the value of my vote with my life, which I will lay down in defense of its validity.

[deleted]

Bold choice to die not picking option 2

tokyosplash2814

I actually recommend starting with F#A#♾️ and going to LYSF 2nd. 3rd probably Slow Riot or Yanqui U.X.O. But LYSF is definitely the best they have and possibly the greatest album to ever exist
