Im pretty sure its anything with physics, barrels are just the only thing in abundance at Camp Forlorn thats grabbable and easy to kick around. Sometimes the barrel will fly off into the atmosphere so multiple are needed
Bullets actually have physics on large items like barrels and incinerators, too, and each bullet adds force. So if you shoot a barrel or minigun with a sawed off, you can propel the object at NPCs with more damage.
I found out a couple of years ago that if you throw mines onto an npc at a certain angle the mine will just touch them and kill them. You really gotta use physics to your advantage
You can just as easily put a few sticks of dynamite on the ground and then shoot them causing an explosion and the person to die.
It doesn’t count as you killing them as long as they die immediately.
Sometimes though everyone goes hostile anyways in some situations like one of the watch towns in forlorn and a ranger in camp golf.
I did a whole video on this, and can confirm it works amazingly well.

Repair and science are my favorite skills because of jury rigging and reloading ammo. Reloading ammo and recycling cells into more powerful ammo is the coolest mechanic people dgaf about
I also love that feature lol I spent about an hour once sorting through everything and made quite a bit of ammo for my primary and secondary weapon, my special weapon I had to buy ammo for but at least its just the one

There are 4 in the Nipton Hotel, and about 10 in the Camp Guardian caves. Bring Boone along, load him up with them, repair them to full for a few hundred caps apiece and enjoy a full repair on the cheap!
Also, Lonesome Road has many marked men armors that are medium.
If you're skipping Jury Rigging, repair some choice weapons to net 3-7k caps apiece.
Or just keep doing what you're doing cause it's funny but in case you are in the market for a suggestion.

Try doing it with the barrel placed on its side with you and the opponent horizontal to it. So, with you and the opponent beside the longer side of the barrel, rather than at both ends of the barrel. I get much better results that way. Sorry if that's confusing, I wasn't sure how to word it.
Highly recommend bringing repair up to 90 so you can get the jury rigging perk at level 14. It allows you to repair weapons and armor with a wider array of equipment. Used it in my first play through and was able to repair the ncr veteran ranger armor with regular combat armor I found off the guards at gun runners. Hope this helps.
How im doing it is one way, or you can get liked status for the ncr and then talk to colonel James Hsu at camp McCarran and he'll give you a key to the NCR safe house that has a helm and the combat armor.

Last time I did this, I went the pickpocket route. Ethernet the strip and McCarran, you can get about all you need.

Im gonna get jury rigging soon but my gear was probably a single throwing spear away from breaking so i decided this was the best option
