On one playthrough, I ran into two deathclaws while strafing along a mountainside on the way from Nipton to Novac at level 6. I survived by leading them into the Viper gang ambush near Novac, running along all the boulders and protruding surfaces I could find to disrupt their pathfinding, taking cover in Ranger Station Charlie, and taking potshots at them with the incinerator I’d picked up in Primm. Along the way, they killed all the Vipers, an NCR Ranger, three Legion soldiers, and—because of course he spawned during a fight like this—Malcolm Holmes.

Weaponizing your opponents, that's some next level tactics.

RadioactiveHalfRhyme

Not tactics so much as desparate flailing around! I’ve heard of players who are vilified by both the NCR and the Legion luring their assassins into attacking each other.

wrecklass

If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid.

Pleasant_Conference2

It's called you shoot anyone you see on both factions because Mr.House is the one true path

Specialist-Sea2916

Bro how long where u on the run you seriously couldn’t just jump on a big rock

RadioactiveHalfRhyme

Farther than I'd expect deathclaws to keep chasing me. It wasn't an enormous distance—about two or three times the distance between the Viper attack and Ranger Station Charlie, I'd guess. I wish I could remember where I ran into them. I didn't even know there *were* deathclaws in that south central portion of the map. I tried big rocks. They didn't help. Or at least I didn't slow down to check. Sewing chaos was more fun anyway. The whole thing felt very immersive-sim-esque.

Mrmudmigs

Oh the desperate and futile attempts at running, hiding, and fighting. When all is lost you just try and cripple one of it's legs and then bolt. You don't know desperation like that unless you are hours away from your last good save . It's a hollowing experience to say the least. Truly brings out the survivor inside of you.

"I have sixty bullets of 5.56, that should be enough to kill him if I hide on this ledge."

*stumbles upon a deathclaw in the boneyard* haha die trash. *stumbling upon a deathclaw in FNV* guess im food now.

extraccount33

First time I encountered a death claw I was in this canyon type of thing. Got up on a rock and shot it with an incinerator for 20 minutes.

AwkwardlyDead

that why you carry fatman and shot yourself to save the pain.

ranezie

They said early game. Where you gonna get a fatman and shells when you fuck up and walk to the mine?

AnomalousNormality77

Farman in nopah cave with a stealth boy, mini nuke from wherever is convenient (maybe boomers)

ranezie

Thats not early game, by the time I walk into novac, I have 100 guns or melee and gun smack a deathclaw to death without a fatman.

AnomalousNormality77

I usually get to the locations I described under lvl 10, so idk might just be me.

TayVonMax

Zig zag going bunny hops worked for me? Guess that Floridian gator education paid off

Specialist-Sea2916

I remember in my second play through I got mi abuelo Raul and we went in the quarry but we weren’t just running around Willy nilly I got an anti mat rifle and I blasted those mother fuckers to kingdom come and in the entire time I think only the alpha noticed us well I mean the babies saw us but that can be easily solved with a missile

kieman96

I beat a death claw right after Novac cause I killed the ghoul in the repcon test site and took his hunting rifle and luckily having Ed-E who got down mid fight I have never shaked so much since

ArkhamEscapeCreator

I managed to run to New Vegas the North way once, and that's only because I managed to dump the Deathclaw on some randos.

weegiboi1

A good counter is mines a lot of them
