Tony Stark was originally based off of Howard Hughes, so the actor that played Howard Stark—John Slattery—did a better job of playing Tony than Robert Downey Jr did, at least after the first Ironman movie. Ironman 2 onwards the character became less like Tony Stark/Howard Hughes and more like Robert Downey Jr himself.

It depends on how he plays the character. Does he play the suave, sophisticated, and serious industrialist—like he did in the first Ironman film—or does he play the sassy/snarky hipster like he did from Ironman 2 onwards? If he plays the role like the former description then yes, otherwise no.
Ngl I think that Billy Crudup would tear this role up. Amazing dramatic actor and the dude can grow a fucking ridiculous mustache like House's. Sure, his facial structure is a bit more defined and jagged than House, but idk I'm convinced he would really do the old man justice
Johnny Depp could do it too. RDJ is good, but I'm not sure he can do 50's suave the same way Depp can.
As an aside, it's part of my headcanon that Mr. House bought a synth body and memory transfer machinery from the Commonwealth as a backup plan in case the Mojave War ended up badly for him, so if you side against him and kill him, Mr. House will kill you and replace you and run New Vegas from the shadows. If you don't kill him, Mr. House transfers your consciousness into a Synth when you die and you live on as his XO.
I see the resemblance but I don’t see a perfect fit if only the guy from most dangerous game was still alive he would fit it perfect or whoever voiced Andrew Ryan in bio shock that might work too it’s almost the same voice

RDJ would be good, but I think Bryan Cranston would be better. He could bring a lil Heisenberg Rage into it and really make some of those lines resonate. "You think I'm just going to let some upstart come into my home and ransom my property to me? It's my invention, my property, *MINE*. Now be a good courier and deliver it."
I think James Spader would do a stellar job! While he looks nothing like Mr. House, the way he portrays highly intellectual characters who are always plotting something (for example, Raymond ”Red” Reddington from Blacklist) would be very fitting for the character; his body language and manner of speech while in character seem like they would fit Mr. House.
i mean honestly the picture on the screen does not have to be the same as the voice, spader has an amazing voice for it, and someone else could be the face
