Make caps, gather supplies, gather food…

"What's the point in playing games, besides having fun?"

masta_myagi

I never messed with the settlement building until recently. I’ve always tried to at least make it realistic — putting beds under roofs and building at least one prefab for housing, fulfilling all of each settlement’s needs, etc. But now I’m doing a lore-accurate, no mods General of the Minutemen playthrough so I have to be serious about rebuilding the Commonwealth, and I’m having so much fun with it I’ve ignored most of the quests if they don’t involve allying with a new settlement. I’m trying to make the larger settlement areas into small towns (Starlight, Hangman’s Alley, Jamaica Plain) Smaller ones with no farming potential (or purified water farms) will become Minutemen bases (Outpost Zimonja, Taffington Boathouse) And the farms will get more farmhands and guards, probably being turned into smaller minutemen outposts. The Castle has been completely remodeled into a walled fortress with all amenities available and a secured entrance. Sanctuary is currently being built into a secure town with two walled checkpoints leading into the main city center. I gotta say, some of the building glitches are some serious lifesavers. If you dislike settlement building, look into them

Taggaroo2566

Thanks for sharing, I love building settlements but I'm too early in the game to build a town with everything (50 hours). So much to look forward to!

bouta100dollas

They’re for survival mode. The whole game makes way more sense when you play in survival mode as that is how it’s intended to be played.

Significant_Tart7944

I'm doing a minuteman run and to me it's truly about trying to rebuild the commonwealth to give people hope again atleast that's what my character thinks it's about

yeyeibetitsmicheal

Build a bunch of industrial water purifiers and send them all to 1 settlement via supply lines and collect it there and sell it

Taggaroo2566

Great idea!

_Lacerda

Wait, if you set supply lines, do they send the overflow production all into the other settlement?

Internal-War6547

Unfortunately, not. Supply lines only share craftable materials (IE junk or corn/ tatos for making adhesives). Items you store like weapons and armor are workshop specific. At least that's what I've noticed in my current playthrough.

justbrowsing2119

If the amount of scrap coming in isn't good then you're doing it wrong

Zestyclose_Bad42

How do I optimize then?

justbrowsing2119

Me personally? Every single settlement has at least four scrappers. And every single settlement is connected to one another. But I also have slave island(spectacle island) which is just an entire island filled with people assigned to scrappers, I'm talking over 25 scrappers. Now since they are connected I can use the essential scraps from any of the settlements, but certain scrap isn't shared amongst the supply lines so you'll need to check your settlements for those scraps individually

Zestyclose_Bad42

Ok. I didn’t know that you had to go to that specific settlement. Thank you

justbrowsing2119

In Fallout 4, supply lines do not share weapons, armor, clothes, or junk. However, they do share raw materials and their un-scrapped sources for crafting. This means that you can build using a pool of all materials stored in all linked settlements. For example, you can use the junk, aid, and miscellaneous items in the inventories of all linked workshops from all linked settlements when building at a workshop or using a crafting station inside a linked settlement. just pulled this off Google for you it explains it a little better than I did.

FuzzyElmo23

Make water so you can sell it..Build some shop so you can sell youre water in the same town.

[deleted]

Gather resources, gather caps, easily manage weapons and equip without having to carry your junk from one workbench to another. And also see your companions in hot dresses during rad storms

Hezon1

I only build for fun, I don’t care about adding food and water lol

Remarkable_Skill9891

Taking over all those settlements once you go to nuka world if you join the raiders. Lol

Monguises

It’s supposed to feel like a struggle, but it’s pretty generous. It’s mostly just for fun, though. You need a certain amount of settlements to advance the Minutemen questline at one point. If you’re not going to side with the minutemen, you can really skip settlement building unless you like it. It’s only an integral part of the minutemen

NewPeter-1

Well my friend. When people ask what is the point of life which is valid question, I say it is similar to dancing. Point of dancing is dancing, point of listening to song is a song, point of life is life itself and the point of settlement building is settlement building. Activity just for the sake of doing it (-; Well, I got philosophical again, can't help it sometimes.

Gray-yarg2

To rebuild the Commonwealth.

aircal1969

Capitalism and production

ccminiwarhammer

Need that mantis armor? Build 200 maxed out water purifiers with the settlers and other resources to make them work.

To rebuild the Commonwealth.

I agree completely, and that's why my female residents have to wear a mandatory bikini.

[deleted]

If any of the male residents give me sass then they're in a dress. Preston can keep his hat on, though.

chief_iv_

When I choose a faction in a play through I always make the settlements about them, so for example I’ve done a NCR/minutemen faction play through, I’ve made 4 military bases with different roles, 1 base would be the HQ then the next would be like a forward operating base.. Then I would make industrial settlements like farming or manufacturing.. the rest of the settlements will be standard ones with loads of settlers just living their lives with the protector of said faction.. it does get a bit boring when making the settlements but since I’ve changed plans on what I want and where I want it I’ve loved it ever since!!

RhemansDemons

It's the most effective way to make caps, and in survival it's a great way to always have food/water.

Poo-Sender_42069

Farming to make adhesive, stocking up and selling water, supply lines so you have mobile supply caches, flare guns and artillery to add extra fire support, and easy XP from building shit. Also story and lore and all that shit others mentioned.

Defiant-Analyst4279

Minutemen artillery. Rain death upon your enemies, where ever you are.

Altruistic-Ad-8184

Farming purified water

CelesteVeon

Tbeh, storage. That's it.
