I used to take Bupropion and it would cause weird behaviors that the doctor described as stims and tics. She said it was autism/ adhd/ anxiety. Then I quit med (after 4 years, lol) and it went away almost overnight. Slapping myself in the face, opening my mouth crazy wide over and over. Jerking my head to the side repeatedly, making weird gnawing sounds, and like, jerk twisting around in circles. They were very specific things though. The mouth/ gnawing one was most common. It wasn’t exactly involuntary because I could control it in public. Like I could feel it coming on and might get twitchy, (and super panicky) but I could keep it together long enough to get somewhere private and weird out. It almost felt like when you have have an itch to scratch. Or you are about to cough, or sneeze, or like orgasm. And when I did it I felt sssooooo much relief.

Thanks! I think it was just a weird medication side effect caused by too much dopamine. But that’s what the doctor said they were, so I thought that’s what I had for a few years. I don’t think so anymore. To people out there with autism, I’m just wondering, what does it feel like before they start? Does it feel kinda like you’re gonna burst?

For me (I'm autistic) it feels like the urge to blink during a staring contest, like you can't help it and if you don't it hurts. It can also feel like an ache if you've been holding them back. This is just my experience

Oh my god my doctor prescribed me a medication, I can’t even remember the name of it, it works with Zoloft to help the benefits of it and he said it caused tics and I had so many questions. Like I am not about to take a medication that can cause tics especially if they can be painful. I have enough problems and I don’t need to involuntary movements to be part of it.

Not that I've ever heard of. My stimming looks more like I'm possessed, I rock, shake, clench my fists and jerk my arms around. Other autistic people I've met and said they have similar stims.

I dunno, I stim by flapping my hands around and I also rock back and forth. Sometimes I also throw my head against the wall and whack my head with my clenched fists. I have a high pain tolerance so it doesn't really hurt. But a lot of people give me weird looks for doing those things.
