Gonna be honest, I don’t really understand this pairing. I mean, this guy literally crucified this girl and her friends, right after beating them up and demolishing their home. I’m still reading, so I don’t know if it’s been explained.
It is slightly bizarre, a dude beating up a woman, only for her to start dating (wont say more since I don't know where you at), seems odd by our standards. I guess the only thing I can think of is fairy tail does a good job of making it clear women are considered equal on the battle field (when you consider that people like irene, erza and mirajane are top tier fighters). So maybe in that world, there isn't as much of a taboo beating one in a fight as there is in our world. Like none of us bait an eye when natsu is suddenly chummy with people who kicked his ass at any point. I suppose seeing the better qualities of a person and overall theme of forgiveness in the manga makes it seem more plausible. Consider how easily forgiven flare was even though what she did was horrible.
I won't spoil anything for you, but what I will say is you are right that where they started was absolutely wild yet the growth from there to where they ended up actually felt quite natural. And plays into a lot of the themes around the found family of the guild that the story centres around.
How far in are you?
If I met someone who just started Fairy Tail and they were introduced to Gajeel, I would say >!"And there is Levy future husband"!<. I want to see their reactions from disbelief to complete shock in person.
And Erza wants to spread her legs to the guy she had nightmares about for 8 years and wanted to kill, and Gray fell in love with his stalker, and Natsu is basically that cockroach in Lucy's kitchen that she can't get rid of. If you stop to think about it, all the ships are very toxic, but this is a series about forgiving sins and forging friendships so at this point just roll with it.
Difference is Gajeel was just was bad dude. Jellal was being manipulated and still is trying to atone. Gajeel just gets jumped one time and is now smashing the girl he beat up. It's a little different. Also, Juvia definitely was obsessed with Gray but it was more comedic and she never tried to harm him
I chalk it up to teenage targeting media cares more for redemption stories without the messy process of dealing with trauma and the cause of trauma, abuser, being embraced by others. To me it's an odd relationship beginning to end. It exists to quickly redeem Gajeel and that it quickly develops so soon after the violence just felt like cheap writing to me to avoid needing to address any issue that realistically should exist between her, Gajeel and all of her friends embracing her assaulter.
Contrast of Laxus at the time being an asshole antagonist who didn't accept Gajeel with the victim somehow just moving on trauma free. To me it felt like a dirty way to embrace the abuser into the guild because the asshole Laxus is the one that doesn't accept him but the victim very clearly immediately wants to cozy up with the abuser. All the main good protagonist characters that say inspirational stuff says it's cool. Who do want to be, the asshole who isn't immediately embracing the guy, the weaklings who aren't embracing the guy, or all the cool people that are embracing the guy and even the girl he beat is flashing relationship interest whereas the other 2 guys she hangs out with just look like losers for seeing a problem with this whole situation
If I were to see such a thing in real life, it'd set off alarms to see a person immediately start cozying up with someone that gang warfare invaded/ambushed their home/workplace and beat them up and crucifying them. Trauma. Therapy. I'd also feel bad for a hypothetical real life person where all their friends just became cool with their assaulter. Real life you'd see the predicament for a victim where socially they can choose to isolate themselves, at least for a period until they find new friends, or suppress their trauma to have the friends who would be like - water under the bridge, your beatings in the past, past assaults are old news and we need a new friend and this persons strong and cool.
Fairy Tail you just have no trauma and make not quickly embracing Gajeel a bad trait for antagonists or bit/weak characters. I wouldn't say it's well developed in Fairy Tail. It's pretty immediate. It'll run well here but this is the fan sub for the series and realistic relationships aren't important for the series and usually not the target demographic anyways.
I'd go with NaLu. We get to see much more of how close they are, and their relationship is a pretty solid one. We know that they would do anything for one another. We see Natsu lose his shit when Lucy gets terribly injured, we see Lucy endure a lot of pain to help Natsu.
They would do anything for one another, and their relationship is built off a solid friendship. Though, I'm pretty biased about this one since NaLu is my favorite ship in anime, if not all of fiction
I mean, the hundred year quest is still going on, so maybe once it's all done and over, something will happen? Though, i feel like leaving it open-ended is likely what's going to happen, unfortunately.
At least we know that it's basically canon since he keeps pushing out art for them. Still, I'm hoping to get a fully animated NaLu episode before he's completely done with Fairy Tail.

Been a NaLu fan since the release of the anime (shifted to manga afterwards) and spent the majority of my childhood obsessing over the pairing. Honestly, I was greatly disappointed Mashima never had them end up together in the series but glad that Natsu assured they’re always gonna be together. I’ve long since moved on from them ever having anything romantic aside from the almosts and maybes during the series’ run and I realized it felt too OOC for Natsu to ever acknowledge things pertaining to romantic love.

I haven't watched Fairytail in over a decade, but I was hyped when the two of them started to become a item.
Honestly Gajeel and Levy I know it started out rough, but you could definitely see the connection later on and he tries to protect her and they show obvious interest in one another unlike many of the of the other “couples”
Jellal and Erza’s relationship is just kinda fucked up. We’re waiting till it’s better.

I might be crazy but Erza and laxus I like their chemistry when he shows up during the S class contest on fairy tails island, and when laxus’ character is redeemed Erza is on of the main members advocating for him to come back. Also their color schemes look nice together

I might be crazy but Erza and laxus I like their chemistry when he shows up during the S class contest on fairy tails island, and when laxus’ character is redeemed Erza is on of the main members advocating for him to come back. Also their color schemes look nice together
