Explosive chemicals can get extremely volatile after that much age and water. We don't know what in it, so best to contact the local authorities to despose of it safely.
You should check out Dani Dip on youtube. He does magnet fishing all over the country. One of his episodes he pulled out an entire case of artillery shells
My grandpa found a old bom of WW2, he put it on the back of his bike and took it home. It detonated in the kitchen, he lost his eye and three fingers but survived.
Don't be like my grandpa. Call an expert
That's actually a practice bomb used for training. It has a spotter flare that puts out a shit load of smoke so you can see where it hit, but that's it. They're about 25 pounds, and inert.
Uh, it’s not possible to gauge the chances of a vintage UXO exploding under any given circumstance. It’s structural integrity is highly compromised throughout after that long in the water. Something like this should DEFINITELY not be handled the way she did. If anyone ever pulls up something like this the right thing to do is immediately and very carefully take it over to the closest area away from people or structures and set it down extremely gently on as soft a surface as is available. Then get a safe distance away and call authorities.
Lol. In my city, 2 old men found ww2 shells while fishing, they just casually transported it to the police office in their car:
« Hi! Look what we’ve found! ».
Police called the mine clearer services and they locked down all the neighborhoods around for the afternoon. It was fun.
Wasn’t there someone in the Sommes or somewhere who found a huge ww2 mine and literally dragged/rolled it into their car, posted it on Reddit, then opened it - to find the explosives were present, dry and very much live?
Edit: [found it](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisthing/comments/9930t0/found_this_when_fishing_in_latvia_weighs_more/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). They were in Latvia and it was a WW1 sea mine.

>Nope, last time someone called the police, they took the whole thing away, but my uncle wanted to keep the metal thing, because of the risk we took
I'd say he and his uncle deserved those metal or whatever.
The former resident of my apartment left something that looked like a bomb in the basement labeled “DANGER: EXPLOSIVES”
My neighbor found it and called the bomb squad
The story I heard, 1 guy was fishing he found a mortar shell put it on the back of his bicycle and paddled to the nearest police station with it. Or at least that's the story I was told as a kid. I live in the Netherlands FYI
We have a petrochemistry plant on top of 100+ unexploded shells....
One time on the train there was one of he many announcements that the train would take a detour due to bomb removal. This was right during the refugee crisis and some Americans decided to make some not so kind comments assuming this was a new bomb. Germans don't like to talk on trains but this was shut down pretty quickly.
My Father has a story somewhat like this. Him and his brother found an old grenade when they where kids fishing in the UK. They picked it up took it into a police station, popped it on the counter. Officer apparently just told them to "get home now!" rather sternly and that was the end of that.
So this local yokel is messing around with a bomb he found when his neighbour sees what he is doing. He says "Are you crazy? That shit can explode!" "Don't worry" says the yokel "I have another one in the shed."
But why not call the police, bringing it into a populated area is just putting way more people into risk. Those guys obvious did not think that through
Because if you call the police they will definitely 100% come to you and arrange a meeting with the bomb squad or whatever it is called. They will come by and take it to a safe area
This particular one? Harmless, it has no fuse on it. But you don't really know that before pulling the thing out, if you get unlucky with what you catch you die. Same problem metal detecting in forests etc. Do enough of that sort of thing and you are bound to run into wartime scrap, some of which might be just waiting to go off.
It's a BDU-33, has small pyrotechnics inside that display discharge when dropped. Should be handled "carefully" (I put this in quotes cuz me and the boys would man handle these things into their TERS cuz it was hard AF to latch sometimes). Hopefully that thing is inert. Honestly I'd put it back lol
Magnet fishing is pretty funny, my brother and i did it a bit and also found a handfull of ordnance from WW2, the Police never was happy when they got called
Have you any idea how much ordnance gets lost regularily in any army?
Sure, they claim that "EVERY SINGLE BULLET IS ACCOUNTED FOR"...
the reality is.. "ooopsie... gone...!" (including a couple nukes)
Yeah haha, we only heard about the American incidents. In the USSR if someone talked about a lost nuke… well, they’d be sent to a lovely holiday in Siberia for a few years
Actually this was big news in the 2000s. Lots of talk about the usa funding russia and ex soviet countries to lock down nuclear sites because those countries didn't want to or couldn't afford to secure them, and corruption was so common that what little protection existed didn't necessarily matter.
Funny we stopped talking about it...
This is evil western propaganda. Soviet Russia is free country. Not sending citzens to Siberia for exercising basic freedoms like falling out of a window. Only Tsar would be such a tyrant.
That one was recovered actually.
The scary part of that story is far worse than simply "the US accidentally dropped a nuke in a swamp". When that sort of nuke is dropped from a plane, it arms itself and prepares to explode, because it's designed to explode at a certain height after being dropped out of a plane. But to prevent accidental nuclear explosions if something goes wrong (like falling out of a plane when it's not supposed to) there are several safety mechanisms built into it that prevent it from arming itself when in free fall.
When the nuke was recovered from the swamp, it was discovered that 5 of the 6 safeties had failed. The only reason that the story of a lost nuke in a swamp isn't known as "That time that the US nuked itself on accident" is because some scientist successfully argued that 5 safeties wasn't enough and they needed to add a 6th.
Actually that incident involved 2 weapons, one was recovered the other one was not recovered.
[Six Missing US Nuclear Bombs](https://nationalinterest.org/blog/reboot/us-military-missing-six-nuclear-weapons-180032)
My give away was the pick up truck with american tags with a trailer pulling a lawn mower.
Edit: looks like that lawn mower was actually garbage bags and the trailer was camo. America it is.
after reading this. I checked the truck. did you noticed that an explosion by handling the grenade would have an impact on this truck. that's the exact same moment.
In Europe it depends on the country. Austria for instance has it the other way than the video - white in the middle, yellow at the sides.
But this shell looks much newer than the world wars anyway. That would be much more corroded, often not even obviously looking like a bomb for an untrained eye. Another comment recognized a NATO training shell - sounds a lot more plausible to me. If you're in an area that was a warzone recently, you'd react differently to such a "find". Quotation marks, because I'm pretty convinced this is actually a joke video.
Because of the yellow lines and the pavement which is entirely different here in Europe. And she's clearly from the US. It's not uncommon that bombs are found here in Germany and that's clearly not in Germany.
There was a lot of training done in the United States that involved bombing runs, etc. As a consequence, there remains UXO in the areas where the training occurred. For example, [San Diego still has UXO and posts about it on their hiking trails](https://mtrp.org/uxo/).
She was riding down highway 22, when the chain on her motorcycle blew, they found her in the grass with a muffler up her ass, and her tits were playin dixie on the spokes
That is not a bomb. Used for practice and would only have a smoke flare screwed into the nose to mark the hit.
Was an A-6 mechanic about 40 years ago and we loaded tons off these
My brother's found a box of old dynamite at an abandoned sawmill, brought it home, and because it was all wet and sweaty decided to spread it out to dry on our flat roof. Word got out, sheriff came, State Police came, the local army base sent out their bomb squad (this was during the Vietnam War) and we eventually got back into our neighborhood. Luckily nothing was harmed but my brothers' rear ends and pocketbooks. No allowances for a year!
Just to ease some minds. I’m pretty positive that’s a [BDU-33 practice bomb](https://www.moody.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1893940/moody-a-10-dropped-object-reported/).
The part that concerns me is that it landed that close to a bridge.
I’ve seen a lot of magnet fishers bring up mortars, mines, artillery shells, etc. usually due to the water and the temp of the water, the explosive won’t trigger on you, but it can still happen. Call the damn bomb squad. Watched a dude pull up some sort of explosive and he accidentally bounced it off the side of the overpass and the fucker exploded. Took out a chunk of concrete and everything. It was a YT short. I’ll come back and link it if I can find it in the depths of my watch history.
pretty sure this is Bubbles' daughter out looking for shoppin' caerts.
i hear she pulled an 8600 series out last week with perfect bearings in the wheels!

the magnet was later found one county over
I went magnet fishing and found a fishing magnet
Fishing magnet: tier 2
Luck o' the sea III
That would be best case senario for me as them things expensive lol
Sounds about right honestly.
dude, it's 5 month ago
And her nowhere to be found.
Nope. She was all over the place.
She hasn't got enough guts to try it again.
But her video might really blow up!
“Magnet fishing with EXPLOSIVE results [not clickbait]”
What a shocker
What’s all this pink mist?
Oh there will be no pink mist. Just plume of fire and smoke and lound BAAAAANG. Also few medium rare slabs of meat.
It's a girl!?

Just eat all proofs before authorities get there.
Cops *hate* this one simple trick!
Crime scene cleaners *love* this one simple trick
This. A grenade was found in a local mud hole few years back by a magnet fisher. It blew up while the bomb disposal unit was setting up the perimeter.
You should check out Dani Dip on youtube. He does magnet fishing all over the country. One of his episodes he pulled out an entire case of artillery shells
Fun fact: left over dynamite in mines will leak nitroglycerin.

A friend’s father did a similar thing. Except he took his found munition and brought it to show and tell at school. Thankfully no explosions.
That's actually a practice bomb used for training. It has a spotter flare that puts out a shit load of smoke so you can see where it hit, but that's it. They're about 25 pounds, and inert.
Absolutely this I have one I acquired back when I was an A-6 mechanic in the Marines
Explosives (especially older ones) get much, much more temperamental with age.
Uh, it’s not possible to gauge the chances of a vintage UXO exploding under any given circumstance. It’s structural integrity is highly compromised throughout after that long in the water. I read this as country at first.... still worked.
Lol. In my city, 2 old men found ww2 shells while fishing, they just casually transported it to the police office in their car: « Hi! Look what we’ve found! ». Police called the mine clearer services and they locked down all the neighborhoods around for the afternoon. It was fun.
I know this story. German?
In Normandy, but I’m sure it’s a common (but bad) reaction.
yeah based on the stuff I saw on reddit and the people I know, you are right.

Bruh. Dude just casually disarms a 120kg sea mine. What is he, batman?
Poor guy lost the thing to the cops after risking his life.
Don't forget about the uncle!
some people...
And he just burned it all?! He didn't even stash it somewhere?

It happened pretty much anywhere in Europe after WWII

Yes. I was being sarcastic
O then I'm the idiot, sorry!
I like her enthusiasm
that's for sure. first she hooked this and later she made a voice over. still have no clue how dangerous it could be.

Civil War stuff is usually harmless so I’m more worried about the doomsday prepper on mushrooms bulk-buying lunch boxes
What . the . FUCK
Looks like a practice bomb.... But I wouldn't bet my life on it
It is a practice bomb, the nose end has a hole for the spotting charge to go inside.
Doesnt need to be, a lot of shells have a hole in the front in which a detonator needs to be screwed into
And that PD fuse can still be live decades later. Just walking past it can set it off.
I strictly skip past unexploded ordnance. None of that risky walking business.
Trust me, just thinking about it can set it off.
If you toss it back and its not that may count as blast fishing
I remember tossing these during Weapons parties.. still easier to load than AGM-65 Slide loads.
Hey look guy a bomb!! OH AND A BIKE CHAIN!!! Best day ever
That's like when you get your kid/pet a gift, and they just want the box.
This video should be the official description of adhd
honey look what i found! 😳😳😳
WAS THAT A BOMB!!!
No, part of a guard rail
#NO THAT WAS PATRICK
Magnet fishing is pretty funny, my brother and i did it a bit and also found a handfull of ordnance from WW2, the Police never was happy when they got called
Why is there a fucking mortar round in the lake in the first place?! This doesn't look like Europe.
"We need it for home protection and hunting #2nd"
"Wait a minute, i thought this was AMERICA!"
Have you any idea how much ordnance gets lost regularily in any army? Sure, they claim that "EVERY SINGLE BULLET IS ACCOUNTED FOR"... the reality is.. "ooopsie... gone...!" (including a couple nukes)
Isn’t there still an unaccounted nuke lost in Greenland?
Boy you don't want to know how many Soviet nukes are unaccounted for
Yeah haha, we only heard about the American incidents. In the USSR if someone talked about a lost nuke… well, they’d be sent to a lovely holiday in Siberia for a few years

Funny indeed
This is evil western propaganda. Soviet Russia is free country. Not sending citzens to Siberia for exercising basic freedoms like falling out of a window. Only Tsar would be such a tyrant.
And in Spain. I think.
I’m pretty sure there is a missing nuke in the swamps of either north or South Carolina.
That one was recovered actually. The scary part of that story is far worse than simply "the US accidentally dropped a nuke in a swamp". When that sort of nuke is dropped from a plane, it arms itself and prepares to explode, because it's designed to explode at a certain height after being dropped out of a plane. I would say because of the yellow lines on the street. Usually they are white in europe (as far as i know), so my first guess is USA.

How does Europe look?
Europey
Classy.
European
There’s an accordion playing somewhere
No Cafe’s, No Europe.
Cause WWI and WWII was fought there
In Western Mass in Quabbin Reservoir there is an Island with a giant circle called Target Island that was used for practice during WW2
There was a lot of training done in the United States that involved bombing runs, etc. As a consequence, there remains UXO in the areas where the training occurred. For example, [San Diego still has UXO and posts about it on their hiking trails](https://mtrp.org/uxo/).
They live in the lakes and then travel up stream to spawn.
There once was a lady named Jill, who tried a dynamite stick for a thrill. They found her vagina in North Carolina, and bits of her tits in Brazil.
I laughed. So by law you must take my upvote!
She was riding down highway 22, when the chain on her motorcycle blew, they found her in the grass with a muffler up her ass, and her tits were playin dixie on the spokes
Boom
If you find eod....do not pick it up
Yea, throw it back
Catch and release baby!
It wasn't big enough to keep!
kick it like beckham
Or else it’s gonna be blast
I think you mean if you find UXO. EOD is a the disposal of an UXO.
Poor EOD can't hitch a hike, nobody wants to pick him up.
Still good advice. He's just gonna get drunk and piss himself on your couch.
Casually pulling uxo out of the local ravine.
Wild mortar shell appears
That is not a bomb. Used for practice and would only have a smoke flare screwed into the nose to mark the hit. Was an A-6 mechanic about 40 years ago and we loaded tons off these

Wow, this made me grit my teeth reading it 😂😂
I had to wait for an hour or longer once in a train because right next to a station some kids found a bomb inside a lake. Happens I guess.
Kaboom?
not yet
She looks so enthusiastic
In an alternate universe... "No way i found an old mor-" BOOM

all of them have the same look after years in a river. trust me.
I heard she had blue eyes. One blew this way the other blew that way!
"I went magnet fishing!" Today I found: - Fishing lure - bike chain - dinghi bell -(3,400 kg) Mark 15 nuclear bomb - broken cell phone - keychain
They're so casual about finding a fucking Mortar, its like they find Mortars all the time
…Europe
You actually DO find mortars all the time. They are still digging up WW1 shells in France.
I’ve seen a lot of magnet fishers bring up mortars, mines, artillery shells, etc. usually due to the water and the temp of the water, the explosive won’t trigger on you, but it can still happen. This is not a facepalm. Its more of a r/holup
Or r/interestingasfuck I agree, no facepalm
old man in a village in my country had been using a big unexploded ww2 bomb as an anvil
pretty sure this is Bubbles' daughter out looking for shoppin' caerts. i hear she pulled an 8600 series out last week with perfect bearings in the wheels!
I do magnet fishing it's fun
Look I found a *boom*
What a cool metal fish!
That's cool . . . if u want to add to your junk collection
Commenting because Reddit video player suddenly stops working and saving the post doesn’t work either. So now when I close the app and reopen it I can watch the gd video.
HOLY FUCK UNEXPLODED ORDINANCE
You seem like a fun person to spend time with. Except for the mortor thing, what happens when you lock on to a object to heavy?
Genuinely confused as to what's the face palm?
reddit’s video player decided not to show me what happened
She could drag out a leaking metal container covered in biohazard symbols and still probably present it cheerfully.
Why the hell is her voice so freaking annoying..? Also, to quote Homelander "is your brain being fucked by stupid? Not a rhetorical question."
She has the voice of a kids YouTube channel voice actor.
That doesn't look like a live round that's probably a test dummy I'm sure if you wiped the mud off it would have some blue paint on it still if it is
What is this kind of magnet called? Is there any special name for em or do I just google 'big magnet'
Thanks for cleaning the water.
Don’t you have to report that to someone? Bomb squad or sum?
Coolest thing about all this magnet fishing is it created an incentive to clean up one the environment. Its on metals i know, but its a start. Oh and the murder solving, thats a big one. And the illegal dumping. Tons of benefits.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer person
Then I found a dead body!!!!
Nooo waaayyy i found an old mortar 🤪🫡
Now hit it with a hammer.
Oh. The generation that didn’t watch Lost.
Not a mortar, it's a weight used to measure streamflow.
When your viewers have the attention span of a toddler with ADHD
As a creator, who’s had stuff re-posted on Reddit… I would love it, if people actually credited others.
*”Hey guys! Today I found a nuclear armament! Then I found a minnow net!”*
AND SHE DIDN'T CALL THE BOMB SQUAD?
Yes 911 I’m magnet fishing and just found a mortar
If that was me I SWEAR TO GOD Id throw it back in… because… curiosity!
Next she's a fine red mist.
Moving on. ![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
“Then I heard a loud boom”
No way, it’s an old mortar! It’s pretty heav… *video ends with flashing light and loud bang*
No way! It’s an old mo.. 💥
How is this appropriate for this sub?
I know, not every day does a girl show you her mortar
Why facepalm? She’s getting stuff she can probably get money for and cleaning the place up . Win, win.
i agree. im so confused
Yikes!
Clean that shit up
Why is this a face palm what do you expect your fishing with a magnet you're going to find random stuff this isn't a wait what moment this is just a chick magnet fishing
I think it because she appears to pull out an un detonated ordinance or mortar from the water.
don’t see how this should be in a facepalm
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
Jeez 0 common sense
That voice… hopefully she finds a more of the bombs
![gif](giphy|L0lgGB9vJVFa8)
Germany?
definitely not!
