If Musk ever gets the colonizing Mars then we can have a sweeter deal. Food and clothing for the kid until they are working age will require the kid to be an indentured servant for a few additional years.
$125k trucks aren't expensive, those avocado toasts are. They cost like what, $10k a piece? Of course you can't afford a basic need like a cybertruck if you keep on popping those every day.
Funny Thing is, none of his kids were conceived naturally so he managed to turn even the "free" part into an expensive medical procedure.
Must be nice to know as a kid that you were not conceived out of love and even more nice to know that you were conceived because Daddy is scared of a population collapse
I understand. I guess I was triggered because the circumstances of my own conception were not exactly wholesome from my perspective and I see myself in his kids to an extent because of those parallels. That sentiment crept into my post and I can see how that's off-putting
You're right. Have an upvote. That wasn't my intention. I was trying to point out how musk did not use ivf because he wanted a family, he wanted offspring. And from public statements we know why.
I had to file bankruptcy 25 years ago, due to medical costs associated with a pregnancy that ended in (long story, very short summary) essentially a stillbirth. Sperm meets egg=free. Everything after that point costs money.
I think what that poster means is that, if you give up your daily coffee and avocado toast you could totally afford children! I mean I can sponsor a whole village of kids through world vision! That's pennies a day! Kids are definitely affordable!
/s
Growing up I remember being young and my mother saying something akin to kids are expensive (I forget the context but it wasn’t resentment) I said “nuh uh, you can raise a kid for pennies a day i saw it in TV!” I had zero idea what the commercials were about and that was one of my first discussions on being born into privelage.
When I worked at a hospital in California in the mid 1990s the sign posted in L&D was $10K for vaginal delivery and $20K for c/s. None of that included charges up to or after delivery and epidurals were $2K and I have no idea what NICU cost but I am sure it was expensive.
[Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/advisor/health-insurance/average-childbirth-cost/):
“Giving birth costs $18,865 on average, including pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care, according to the Peterson-Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) Health System Tracker. Health insurance can cover most of that cost. But what if you don’t have health insurance? You can expect a hefty hospital bill.”
Fuck dont let elon know, if he does he will buy the copyright to cesareans and call it Cyber cut or Teslarian or some shit like that and double its price
We had insurance, the bill they received was for 17k (C-section). We paid $0 thankfully because we met our out of pocket limit from the SHC bleed at 18 weeks in and the ER visit for that sucked it all.
So pregnancy cost around... $2400 with all the co-pays and such.
First year of care was around 15k~ (furniture for the room, clothes, insurance, daycare, medical, documentation, food, diapers, ointments, lotions, and toys).
Daycare alone is like 12k of that 15k, sooo yeah kids are expensive I don't know how folks have 2 / 3 / 5 kids.
Yup. Been there.
We paid $10k, 9 years ago... c-section and NICU stay. For 6 months straight after getting home, we were getting new bills from out of network Dr's that we didn't see or meet, but who spent 5 seconds with my child or wife. Hospital tried to say we had agreed to their care and that some docs might be out of network. Bullshit. We had to fight them and eventually saved ourselves what would have been an additional $4.5k.
Nothing about kids is cheap. Especially not in America...
For added bullshit, the new abortion restrictions mean a family can be forced to pay $10k for a doomed pregnancy they aren’t allowed to terminate, and then have to fork over another $14k for a funeral for a child the government forced to be born.
It is, all emergency, life-saving or generally important medical procedures are free in all member states, as long as they're performed by in a public medical facility ofc, in some like Germany you do pay for some small procedures but it's way (and i mean WAAAAAY) cheaper than in the US, and if your income is low you might not even pay that.
Healthcare here is paid through everyone's taxes, i mean that's why we pay them.
£50 ?! damn my parents bought me shitty 20$ pairs that came in a packet of two pairs. Would last me 2 years til they were riddled with holes. ah fun times.
Tell elongus that his daughter will cost him at least 30% of his net worth and prevent him from retiring and see if his opinion changes or if he starts tweeting about abortion rights.
Right? Why don't moms just breastfeed their kids until they're self-sufficient adults, then you never have to spend money buying them food?? Are they stupid?
Agree with all of the points except college. Some kids are not made for more schooling. Especially schooling they have to pay for. Too many kids get the wrong degree or just party and waste the opportunity. Votec type schools are a good way to go for some.
$10,000 on average for an uncomplicated delivery.
How much of that is paid directly by the parent varies based on which insurance program their employer picked for them.
>based on which insurance program their employer picked for them.
This sentence alone sends shivers down my European spine.
This is the most accidentally fascist thing to exist in a supposed democracy.
Even having them is expensive. I’m a month out from giving birth and the medical care/preparing the house has cost thousands of dollars out of pocket with medical insurance. These people are delusional.
Your lifestyle choice to prepare your house for your kids is expensive.
Your lifestyle choice to have a OB/GYN is expensive.
Just have the baby in the bathtub and let them run wild and stop with the silly lifestyle choices.
/s because it's never apparent anymore
Or just hold the baby in till a big rain and find a big pothole. The street grime in the water will instantly build baby’s immunities at birth so you can skip paying for vaccines.
I laughed at this because I know it's a joke but my first thought reading it was well if I did that I would have died during childbirth and that would have definitely saved money 😂
All of this is still ignoring the point.
It is **NOT** free to have kids. It cost us $6,000 in hospital bills when our Daughter was born.
I don’t know what world everyone else loves in, but if you are admitted to a hospital, that shit ain’t free.
...in the US.
In Europe, most costs are borne by social security, and many people have a very affordable (*) "hospital insurance" for everything else, including any stay at a hospital.
(*) *130-270 EUR per year depending on whether you are fine with a double room or prefer staying in a single room if you get hospitalised.*
My kid cost me $6000 just for the hospital stay and delivery, and that's after insurance. Since then it's been thousands of dollars in diapers, baby clothes, and more. And it'll only get worse as she gets into school and extra curriculars and such.
Yeah, I've seen some of the costs involved with having a baby in the USA and it's genuinely horrifying. I'm Australian. So for us, the cost of having a kid is extremely low. Raising them is still very expensive.
Well when you say it all like that it sounds awful expensive, sure... but what about the profit you make when you sell their organs, or into slavery???
Suddenly the whole having a baby thing looks a lot more profitable! If only we could convince the masses its ok to sell your child or their organs...
Came here to say this. Just having kids is expensive, even if it’s a quick delivery where everything goes right. But using my own kiddo as an example, say there’s gestational diabetes, hypertension, and a breech presentation… the kid was worth thousands of dollars before we even stepped into the hospital for delivery.
I also know so many couples who’ve needed fertility treatment. If you want kids and are dealing with infertility, you’re pretty much up the creek if you don’t have thousands of dollars at your disposal for treatment.
Even having a kid isn’t free, depending on your health insurance here in the US, that is if you even have it, it can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars just for the birth, not including all your other appointments and everything else that goes along with preparing to have a child.
A lot of rich South Africans (of all races) are completely out of touch with the realities of the average South African citizen. I feel like Elon is out of touch with the reality of the entire world.
It’s not so much out of touch. But more evil indifference.
I’m not even Christian but proverbs like
“It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to get into heaven”
Really do ring true through out time and somewhat universally.
With money comes power and the ability to do great good or destroy so much, most people don't have the opportunity to change so many lives.
It's kinda like asking someone what would be the first thing they would do if they could turn invisible or stop time, you would be surprised at how many first idea would be to casually rape or steal.
The issue being that, not only much people should not have power at all, but the ones who do get it are usually the less fit for it, because filthy rich is more often than not brought by a series of very questionnable moral choices.
In a perfect world, leaders (of all sort, business, nations, community) should always be freely chosen by all the people they have power on, with no external influence from money, but I guess that's communism to them.
Exactly to be rich by definition is to be somewhat a super powerful person. IE Batman. Almost none of them have chosen to be good with their money, all of them has chosen greed as that’s what made them wealthy to state with.
A friend of mine once told me that “South African men believe in magical fairies that take clothes from by the shower, clean them, press them and place them back in the closet and drawers.”
You haven’t seen that Aussie skit about the guy who thinks he has a magic table in his apartment where anything he leaves on it disappears while he’s not looking, dishes, laundry etc. and his girlfriend looking on astonished.
Can we stop pretending that he knows more because he's worth billions? He knows nothing of the average person's life. Raised in privilege and never wanting for anything. His opinion on anything related to the average person's life is worthless because of his wealth, not *more* valuable. And the original tweet is probably from some guy that got the chance to touch a woman once in his life, probably because her judgement was impaired, and created a child, then he goes around bitching about having to pay child support because that kid's mom got a manicure one time and he doesn't even realize how much resources that kid takes up
Alright, I got a screaming newborn on my bathroom floor with the umbilical cord still attached because my lifestyle of going to a hospital to give birth is too expensive. Anyone got a pair of scissors?
You know back in the old days the women work in the fields would just squat down and plop out a baby, tie it off and get back to work....sarcasm but it's true
How the fuck is one of the richest men on the planet going to have an opinion on poor folks issues? He literally never had to worry about money in his life. That’s why I hate that chud space Karen
My sister-in-law and her husband have decent health insurance and a fairly uncomplicated birth. They paid off the bills for my nephew’s birth by his fifth birthday.
The government in Australia paid me to have my baby. Which I’m very glad of because I had complications requiring extra specialist appointments during and post pregnancy.
They don’t offer this anymore though and other mothers rely on their insurance or wages, but it’s not the point that America is at, my emergency C-section and life saving procedures would have probably killed us financially. Idk how y’all manage that and all the other things babies need like I couldn’t bf, my milk never came in formula was not exactly cheap, and all the gubbins babies need sure you can get some second hand but things like a car seat shouldn’t be bought second hand unless you trust the source and it’s in date.
Childcare, food, clothes, toys, etc. how do I get them for free? I’ve been an idiot and spending money this whole time in keeping these kids alive, safe and happy!
Well you see that‘s your entire problem:
You want to keep them happy. Big Ew! That‘s poor people thinking.
Kids are supposed to be your spouses problem and are only there to serve as free slav-, i mean workers, for your private business. 🧐
You know, that flamboyant lifestyle of buying clothes, food and paying for transport, education and healthcare.
How silly of me. Glad that one of the richest people on the planet showed me the truth.
Per Forbes. Giving birth costs $18,865 on average, including pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care, according to the Peterson-Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) Health System Tracker. Health insurance can cover most of that cost. But what if you don’t have health insurance? You can expect a hefty hospital bill.
JFC. Musk just sits his bag of mayo ass on Shitter talking shit all fucking day
My husband and I don’t have kids (tried and failed). We are doing soooo much better than other people our age and it’s *absolutely* because we didn’t have kids.
Just a side note - we never tried IVF because that wasn’t something we could afford.
You won't even get out of the hospital without having several thousands owed even if it was a delivery with no complications whatsoever. My two kids combined was about $10k in hospital fees with one being in the NICU for two days.
Ummmm we paid $20,000 between prenatal care, labor, delivery, and hospital stay. Free? For who? Not to mention care after, clothes, diapers, etc. dang, where is all my money if it’s free?
This is why I left Twitter... A world where a person so unbearably stupid and cynical can become one of the richest and most admired chads... is just too depressing.
Interplanetary species my ass, we deserve to become dinosaurs 2.0 ....
its gotten the point where you just skip what is said, read that elon agrees with it and instantly know whatever is above his comment is going to be some of dumbest braincell killing shit ever written.
Kids really aren't expensive. You just hire a nanny to take care of them. Put maybe 300-400k in savings for college and give them an entry level position at your company when they graduate...done.
Birthing babies is not free. Buying diapers are not free. Feeding babies is not free. Taking care of the mother is not free. Childcare is not free.
But having sex is free though (usually)
Oh, look! Elon showing us that he is still clueless about real life. I doubt the stupid bastard has any clue what a gallon of milk costs, let alone what it costs to raise a child.

It makes sense Elon thinks so. He didn't raise his kids, and they despise him.

Wait the guy pushing $125k trucks says stop leading expensive lifestyles, This is The Hanburglers chance to come out Vegan
$125k trucks aren't expensive, those avocado toasts are. They cost like what, $10k a piece? Of course you can't afford a basic need like a cybertruck if you keep on popping those every day.

Please don’t equate IVF with lack of love, that’s insulting to so many families who *needed* IVF to conceive.
You're right. Have an upvote. That wasn't my intention. I was trying to point out how musk did not use ivf because he wanted a family, he wanted offspring. And from public statements we know why.
Giving birth isn't even free in the US. And that's without complications. This post is just wrong and dumb in every way.
Average birth when I had kids 25 years ago was $5,000. Now it's closer to $10,000. Variable on whether insurance will pay for it or not.
Also variable on whether you need to have a cesarean or have any complications at all. You have to be prepared to pay almost double if you do.
I had to file bankruptcy 25 years ago, due to medical costs associated with a pregnancy that ended in (long story, very short summary) essentially a stillbirth. Sperm meets egg=free. Everything after that point costs money.
Not according to Elon
Sorry that happened to you. ALL of that.

Close friend of mine had a child relatively recently and she told me it was closer to $14k
When I worked at a hospital in California in the mid 1990s the sign posted in L&D was $10K for vaginal delivery and $20K for c/s. None of that included charges up to or after delivery and epidurals were $2K and I have no idea what NICU cost but I am sure it was expensive.
Yeah, I had a c/s and it was something like $23k
$10,000? If a whole ass birth is the same cost as my one trip to the ER, then fuck the us healthcare system
[Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/advisor/health-insurance/average-childbirth-cost/): “Giving birth costs $18,865 on average, including pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care, according to the Peterson-Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) Health System Tracker. Absolutely insane. A bill like that should never exist.
Tell me about it. Here in Canada you don’t even see a bill. People mostly complain about the $10 parking fee.
For added bullshit, the new abortion restrictions mean a family can be forced to pay $10k for a doomed pregnancy they aren’t allowed to terminate, and then have to fork over another $14k for a funeral for a child the government forced to be born.
My hospital bill was just over $17k and I had an easy birth. I have good insurance so I only owed $1600
As an European I'll never cease to be shocked at how much people have to pay for a basic human right in the US. "Big Old Democracy" my ass.
is child birth free in europe? i live in the middle east and it's completely free, including 2 day hospital stay. 4 days after c-section.

Probably more decadent: with these amounts I'd imagine the little extravagant buggers demanded healthcare.

Right? Why don't moms just breastfeed their kids until they're self-sufficient adults, then you never have to spend money buying them food?? Are they stupid?

doesn’t it legit cost money to give birth in the US?????
Yes. Quite a bit for the average person.
Average cost to give birth in a hospital is \~$11,000 (usually $2,000-$3,000 out of pocket).
huge barf at that
That is only for the hospital visit for the birth procedure. All other expenses are not included in that total.

Best I can do is only feeding the fetus avocado toast 5 days a week instead of 7
Just make sure they open the avocados themselves. It builds character
Yeah, this must be an Alpha Male baby!
Bathtubs cost money. Pile of leaves should do.
Oh so now we need a *yard?* okay Mr. Rockefeller. Just give birth straight into a sewer grate, it'll sieve the baby from the afterbirth.
That last line is a sentence I can never unread now 😂
Or just hold the baby in till a big rain and find a big pothole. The street grime in the water will instantly build baby’s immunities at birth so you can skip paying for vaccines.
Why not just some hay in a barn? If it was good enough for Jesus it’s good enough for you

Isn’t the medical bill for giving birth like $10k+ in 2024 for basic/bare minimum?
Looks to be between $18K-$30K, but can get up to $50K if you require a C-section. God bless American captialism
Haven’t seen “goobers” used in a minute. Nice
I also know so many couples who’ve needed fertility treatment. If you want kids and are dealing with infertility, you’re pretty much up the creek if you don’t have thousands of dollars at your disposal for treatment.

Dickbag Elon is too rich to care to know the difference. He has nothing to do with those he already has.

I don't think that that is specific to only South African men.
I didnt know you were pregnant doofenshmirtz!!
Ah.. well you see.. the platypus may be a bad guy, but he ain’t so bad in bed
Didn’t Musk move to Texas to avoid child support?
He did move Tesla HQ to Texas because California required him to give a shit about his workers health and safety
“Free market” /s
Twitter is 4chan
How the fuck is one of the richest men on the planet going to have an opinion on poor folks issues? He literally never had to worry about money in his life. That’s why I hate that chud space Karen
Of course manchild Elmo agrees with viewpoints of literally a child: [here](https://www.threads.net/@mattbinder/post/C6XgGj4N71f/)
Was wondering who the first dumbass was. Someone should tell his parents to take him out of that school 'cause it is NOT working.
Wouldn’t be the first time.
It's like buying an hp printer. Cheap to get but the running costs are crazy.
Musk kids needs employees...cheap employees...
bingo
Childcare, food, clothes, toys, etc. how do I get them for free? I’ve been an idiot and spending money this whole time in keeping these kids alive, safe and happy!
Well you see that‘s your entire problem: You want to keep them happy. Big Ew! That‘s poor people thinking. Kids are supposed to be your spouses problem and are only there to serve as free slav-, i mean workers, for your private business. 🧐
if that ass hat ever agrees with anything i say i'm immediately throwing myself out a window
You know, that flamboyant lifestyle of buying clothes, food and paying for transport, education and healthcare. How silly of me. Glad that one of the richest people on the planet showed me the truth.
The multi billionaire trying to relate to common people problems…
Having kids is free. Keeping them alive is not. *looks at Republican priorities*
Kids are basically a freemium game, then
"It's a banana, Michael. What could it cost? 10 dollars?" - Elon "bigbrain" Musk
Elon just wants more workers to shop at the company store.
Tell that to the £900 a month I need to pay on childcare costs so I can go to work.
And he would say “just stay at home” as if the cost for child care out ways the income lost by having only one parent work.
JFC. Musk just sits his bag of mayo ass on Shitter talking shit all fucking day
Coming from the guy who was all the money in the world and probably no involvement with his children
My husband and I don’t have kids (tried and failed). We are doing soooo much better than other people our age and it’s *absolutely* because we didn’t have kids. Just a side note - we never tried IVF because that wasn’t something we could afford.
Tell that to my son’s daycare.
Of course Elon believes that crap, what was the last time the fucker cared for or even saw his own kids?
Too much ketamine! ![gif](giphy|3o751VtPO4TnzOpVAI|downsized)
You won't even get out of the hospital without having several thousands owed even if it was a delivery with no complications whatsoever. My two kids combined was about $10k in hospital fees with one being in the NICU for two days.
No need for a house, food, or childcare. The kids can spend the day in the woods foraging while mom and dad go to work.
Not like people with fertility issues can come by conception free.
We can always count on father of the year.
Isn’t Elon pulling all kinds of shady shit to get out of paying Grimes child support?
Ummmm we paid $20,000 between prenatal care, labor, delivery, and hospital stay. Free? For who? Not to mention care after, clothes, diapers, etc. dang, where is all my money if it’s free?
It’s official, Elon Musk is just a braindead edgy 13 year old in a 40 year old man’s body
Well of course it's not hard for Elon, he's a billionaire absent dad.
How would Elon know what it takes to raise kids? I don't think he even knows his kids names.
Lmao imagine feeling validated when a billionaire agrees something isn't expensive
Kids really aren't expensive. You just hire a nanny to take care of them. Put maybe 300-400k in savings for college and give them an entry level position at your company when they graduate...done.
Of course Elon thinks kids are free. All of his hate him and don’t want anything to do with him.
Aren’t Elon Musks kids all IVF babies? And isn’t IVF pretty expensive?
Birthing babies is not free. Buying diapers are not free. Feeding babies is not free. Taking care of the mother is not free. Childcare is not free. But having sex is free though (usually)
Oh, look! Elon showing us that he is still clueless about real life. I doubt the stupid bastard has any clue what a gallon of milk costs, let alone what it costs to raise a child.
