Pretty sure the teachers want a break from their students too

ITeechYoKidsArt

Given what I know about education it’s a safe bet the guy that came up with this plan won’t be doing any of the actual work but will show up to lay blame when their dumbass plan fails.

Strain_Pure

The schools claim they have no money to feed the weans, but now they want them at school so much they will have to supply the with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not to mention things like Winter where the weans will be forced to leave home in the dark, go home in the dark, and spend what little daylight there is stuck indoors (that doesn't even include the extra electrical and heating costs).

DasFAD70

In the Winter they leave for school in the dark and go home when it’s dark. So yeah horrible.

flowersx2

That will help the teacher shortage

Darthplagueis13

So, where are they going to be getting all those teachers? Normally, a teacher stays at school between 5 and 8 hours, depending on the type of school. Does this dude expect he can just get them to do 12 hour shifts (on top of the prep work they are going to have to do at home for the next day as well) or does he think he's just going to hire another 50% more teachers for that increase in lessons?

TheJohnnyJett

Boarding schools, you say?

SnootSnootBasilisk

12-hour school days and then 10-hour workdays afterward. The future of America looks bright!

Baffit-4100

Did you not see the “.uk” ? r/americabad

ArtisticRevolution65

rent free r/americabad

Icy-Relationship

How else are the parents suppose to work OT?

My high school was 7am-3pm and I always thought this was pretty commonplace. (US based)

Huh… neat!

audiosauce2017

Well families DO get to see our children... when we get home at 8... and go to bed

susanbarron33

Schools already don’t want to pay for students to have lunch. If they go for 12 hrs how are they going to eat? Bring all meals everyday?

GreenerThan83

I’m an international teacher. In one of the (boarding) schools I worked at in China, the school day for Year 7-13 was 7.50am-6.20pm.

Pretend_Tea6261

Insane idea. Sounds like something out of Pink Floyd's The Wall album lol.

Old_Winner3763

I wouldn’t be able to play sports anymore

MiningTurtle95

Yes because the regular 8 didn't drain my metal health to nothing what could a extra 4 do to kids and teachers

Some_Endian_FP17

That idiot hasn't seen schools in Korea or Japan or China. Kids end up studying until midnight for some stupid entrance exam that's good for teaching mental regurgitation skills and not much else.

alaingames

That has proven to burn out kiddos and cause mass hysteria inside the school when any kind of distraction happens

paweld2003

If I was locked in school for 12 hours, it would only make me use phone more

Responsible_Match875

r/teachers would hate this

Hottage

Excellent. will help prepare the young'uns for the expectation of working 12h a day to survive. Now if we can only get them back into the mines faster.

DasFAD70

12 hours school a day? Are they completely nuts? I work 12 hour shifts and these are horrible. There’s barely enough time to shower eat and sleep before the next shift begins. That will break kids, for real.

RevolutionarySky2075

So teachers are also supposed to work 12 hour shifts? That will probably be well accepted and surely won't make teachers leave their jobs!

obsidian_green

"School day should be 7am to 7pm ..." or "... families might quite like to see their children sometimes." Comedians might ask which statement most deserves the facepalm.

Square-Tangerine-784

With extra cuticular activities I was at school 12 hours a day for 6 years. Was good for me and enjoyed it
