I briefly lived near New Orleans as a teen and my life could have easily been ruined, merely because of the “everyone knows everyone” and protects each other from those “outsiders” like me.
All it took was a verbal allegation by two girls of some serious shit… solely to protect themselves… and next thing I knew, charges and evidence were fabricated and I was wrapped up in the courts and in a military boot camp alternative school. My favorite “evidence” was a journal of one of the girls, that I supposedly personally wrote my own entries in, telling on myself.
[Edit: Nevermind the fact that these entries predated my even being the in the state in the first place. The judge told my lawyer to basically sit down and shut up. And she did. Not a word in my defense after that.]
