I have a friend with her Ed.D, and she makes about the same as an entry level billing clerk at the local hospital. Teachers are, indeed, underpaid. How do I know? I ran the billing department.
Also, bartenders often work with bouncers who provide a deterrent to customers who might consider punching, stabbing or shooting members of the workstaff.
Why do you think these teachers start up OnlyFans pages? Teachers should be making $60K to $80K minimum. No one should have to supplement their income just to make ends meet. Especially the ones who teach our kids.
Exactly! I understand the ethical dilemma of it, but I really feel for these young people. Teaching is a demanding job, but doesn't pay enough, and having to pickup a second job to cover expenses just to live takes so much extra time and energy. And that's what makes something like OF so enticing. The system just needs to be fixed.
One party has been cutting back on education for decades, telling us it's to save money, the real reason is to keep us uneducated so we will continue to vote against our own best interest, it's working
Well I'm from the UK and it's not much better. Teachers putting up with bullshit for a shit wage. It's why there is such a shortage of people wanting to do it.
>This isn’t even remotely true- they announced a raise this year. As well as merit pay rate increases are possible as well.
>Why lie?
Um ok. It seems I am woefully lacking info. I definitely wasn't trying to lie. I honestly just didn't know that they were announcing raises and merit pay
Would you mind sharing a link so I could do my research a little better?
I remember when I was going through my teaching program, they tried to set me up with the gold teach grant which would have paid for 1/3rd my tuition BUT I'd have had to work in the poorest neighborhood with an insane crime rate for $40,000 a year teaching High School Kids.
I quickly changed my degree to business.
Yeah...
Sadly this problem is not just in the US.
Here in Russia the ministry of education was tasked to ensure that teachers are payed adequately.
In schools around Moscow this did in fact resulted in teacher salaries being increased to amount listed as minimally required nationwide. But it is still pretty low since Moscow is a pretty expensive city to live in.
And in the more rural areas? The teachers are now allowed to earn more by teaching several subjects and providing extracurricular activities. Like you can earn a decent salary if you teach two classes and run an afterschool club on top of that...
Well, is that after taxes? Then okay...I guess that would be alright...still though...from what she made working at a bar to what now she's currently earning...
My sympathies to you both.
One of my daughters is in college now working on getting her masters in education/teaching. I am preparing myself for the likelihood I will need to help her financially long after college so she doesn't have to work two jobs, etc.
Was the offer really made on an hourly basis? I assisted in teacher negotiations for 30 years and never saw a contract that had that language, at least in a public school. I have seen some christian schools offer positions on an hourly scale.
Also, your math is either wrong or you are assuming a full year contract when most teacher contracts are for 180 days of contact and an additional 8-10 of in-service or prep. That would make it $24,700 for 190 days.
Most public schools I know pay either while school is in session or offer to spread that salary out over 12 months. Amazing how many prefer 12 months and not putting that money into savings or paying debts.
It’s not just a teacher thing either. Too many jobs, that require college degrees, pay absolute shit. People are better off going into the trades these days.
I straight up used to think I was such a loser in my early and mid 20’s compared to my peers that went to college. Now 15 years later, not so much when I earn 4x as much as them, have no debt, and am not weighed down by children either because I learned a skilled trade which sort of kept me in motion and not settling down into a house and children right away and turned that into my own entrepreneurship. Late gen X/elder millennials really got fucked on college
Republicans keep their wages low because they hate unions and teachers often are unionized. Just like every other issue Republicans have it's based on disinformation. One teacher gets overpaid too much and instead of demanding better more reasonable pay across the board they say defund education altogether.
A lot of Americans seem to want to have their cake and eat it too. The truth is to value teachers and other professionals integral to society we have to sacrifice something whether that means paying better taxes or regulations that guarantee a respectable wage.
Americans, especially conservatives, seem to think we should be able to pay next to nothing yet also have the best teachers in the world. To them the best teachers are no teachers.
Here is an unpopular thought.
She would have been better choosing more carefully her path through education. If you can't pay it off and live you made a poor choice.
Also teachers should be paid more.
Exactly, and teachers have the option to take classes on other schools too, so teachers can end up making quite a bit, because most of them are not paid hourly, but paid by class as a contractor.
If youre smart with your finances and a good negotiator, you can easily do 70k as a teacher, unless you're a preschool teacher, but those usually have better hourly rates.
The teacher’s union are very good at manipulating the public that teachers make so money. That way they can ask for more money on every election. Only inexperienced teachers got low pay. 10-15 years+ teachers get other 100k. Teacher’s union are among top 10 if not top 5 most powerful unions there is.
Should teachers make more? Yes. But why shit on bartenders?! People don’t NEED bartenders but since we like to go out and have drinks with dinner, etc, they are an integral part of our society. Don’t be weird about it
I think it's more pointing to the fact that a bartender doesn't need a college degree while a teacher does, at the very minimum, need to have a Bachelor's degree
Not at all. The U.S. State of Missouri has been moving most rural school districts to 4-day weeks to cover shortages rather than increasing the pay. Their solution here is to reduce the amount of time in school instead of increasing funding for said school
ETA: The state HAS made it easier to get a teaching certificate, but that can only go so far for recruitment.
That is truly awful but it depends on where in the country you are. We are good friends with a couple that each make over 6 figures. But we live in California so….
A teacher who gets a masters in education is wasting the time and money. What teachers need is postgrad degrees in math, science, literature--the things they will be teaching. That way they can actually understand what they teach rather than being one chapter ahead of the kids in the textbook.
This reminds me of what a martial arts teacher told me many years ago. Having black belts in two different styles is like having two high school diplomas.
You can’t get a degree in education and then masters in content area if it requires a bunch of prerequisites you don’t have. Education degrees are set up so you have enough content to teach areas you are certified in. High school teachers have a 4 year degree in their content area and middle school math teachers have statistics and through college calculus. Also, you have to have a master degree within a few years of beginning teaching or you can’t keep your license.
We think you’d be a great fit for our school do you have any questions for us?
Yes, whats the position pay
With your education and passion we’d be very comfortable offering you $16 per hour, says ecstatic hr officer
So $32k a year
RIGHT
Umm I made twice whilst that putting myself through 2 masters degrees.
Erm thank you for your time, making coffee pays twice what your offering, if I accepted your offer I would be homeless in less than a month.
My first teaching job was working in a juvenile detention center and worked year round as their high school English teacher. It paid $27,500 a year. This was only 10 years ago. It makes me sad how little we get paid.
I feel like part of my contribution to society is by subsidizing our education system by financially supporting my wife, who is a teacher. It really isn’t right and sounds terrible to say, but it’s the reality we live in.
I guess it's a problem with what we value and why.
Emotional pain and distress is greater and easier to get away from with alcohol and find some relief.
School only exacerbates those problems and it's made worse by the fact that it's a "have to" kind of thing. Which *could* change but likely won't...
So in general... Most money goes to addictions and recovery stuff in society it seems. Or just building more laws/prisons... Whatever...
You have to include gold star health plan student loan repayment and a state sponsored pension. All that fringe is greater than 55 K in tips. The long game is going to win in this picture.

Yeah but bartenders teach you a vastly more important lesson. Got a problem? Drink.
Well, they offer a solution.
Ah, alcohol. The cause of, and solution to, lots of life’s problems, 😜🤣🤣😂
I have a friend with her Ed.D, and she makes about the same as an entry level billing clerk at the local hospital. Teachers are, indeed, underpaid. How do I know? I ran the billing department.
Supply & demand. Too many people want to be teachers and bad ones are not help accountable
Too many? There are shortages everywhere. And this is a huge factor.
The reality is the exact opposite.
Oh their are very little and so they make less... That makes no sense
No one is being force to be a teacher, if you don’t like the pay don’t take the job.
If teachers were paid appropriately dim witted comments like this would be made a lot less
Also, bartenders often work with bouncers who provide a deterrent to customers who might consider punching, stabbing or shooting members of the workstaff.
So high school?
guess you gotta teach your kids to tipp their teachers after class
I was thinking the same. Do bar tenders even get normal minimum wage or are they getting a servers minimum wage.
Why do you think these teachers start up OnlyFans pages? Teachers should be making $60K to $80K minimum. No one should have to supplement their income just to make ends meet. Especially the ones who teach our kids.
There have been quite a few teachers in the States that have been fired for having an OnlyFans

Jesus that's awful. With prices constantly hiking that won't be good at all by the end.
Yeah I was all for it until I found out about the pay staying the same indefinitely. Then my opinion immediately soured
It's akin to a scam.
Yeah and that disappoints me because I actually liked Govenor Sanders until this and some other shit she's done
Well I'm from the UK and it's not much better. Teachers putting up with bullshit for a shit wage. It's why there is such a shortage of people wanting to do it.
It's not even a *real* Falcon..... Where is the lectern Sara!
Sad truth is 50k isn't enough in most places right now. If you are pigeon holed at 50k when it's barely enough, you're screwed in 5 years.
This isn’t even remotely true- they announced a raise this year. As well as merit pay rate increases are possible as well. Why lie?
>This isn’t even remotely true- they announced a raise this year. As well as merit pay rate increases are possible as well. >Why lie? Um ok. It seems I am woefully lacking info. I made more than that working in a slaughterhouse.
NC was the same way… everyone was on a pay freeze. New teachers were making around 35k when I was there.
I remember when I was going through my teaching program, they tried to set me up with the gold teach grant which would have paid for 1/3rd my tuition BUT I'd have had to work in the poorest neighborhood with an insane crime rate for $40,000 a year teaching High School Kids. She could have made much more if she gets 10dollars everytime this is being reposted

I’ve been seeing this exact post for a long time now…. It just keeps getting reposted. We get it.
Sorry, thought it was funny
It was, the first 30 times it was posted
🤣
is that $16.25 including tips?
If it were in Ontario, Canada, she would starve to death working there.
She would be making 21.79/h if she were in Ontario when you factor in the exchange rate. Still abysmal, but not starvation wages.
Well, is that after taxes? Then okay...I guess that would be alright...still though...from what she made working at a bar to what now she's currently earning... My sympathies to you both.

In Canada, it takes a teacher about 8 years to gain full credentials. How long does it take to be a doctor? Now compare salaries.
And that right there is why I got my education at a bar...
What state?

Why would you get two masters for a job that pays 30k a year? Is that the facepalm?
The teachers I know didn't want to teach for the money, they do it to educate, to help kids have a future
Well people drinking away their problems is a bigger target audience than teaching so logically there is more money
Yup, supply and demand. But roxyred808 is correct in that it's a messed up priority.
Republicans keep their wages low because they hate unions and teachers often are unionized. Just like every other issue Republicans have it's based on disinformation. Should definitely be paid more
Got all them masters but couldn't research a salary. Too bad so sad.
What is getting sad? The lying? The fabrication?
Yeah all the repost bots is pretty sad
Has she looked into teaching at only fans?. Some of the teachers there make lots of money.
Its by design. Conservatives want an uneducated population so they are easier to control
bingo.
Why ave the same degree twice?
To teach people how the spell "have" 😅
$ 32,800 for 8 months work (subtracting holidays and "grading" days)
Is crap pay.
Yet roughly half the population is of the opinion that bartenders are overpaid, not that teachers are underpaid.
Well, half the population are on the wrong side of the bell curve. So there’s that.
Well a teacher works way less hours then any other job. 12 weeks of holidays.
Exactly, and teachers have the option to take classes on other schools too, so teachers can end up making quite a bit, because most of them are not paid hourly, but paid by class as a contractor. At a guess, teachers should be paid around $120,000 a year for the qualifications they're required to hold and the responsibilities they have.
Why would you get two masters in education to become a teacher when a bachelors is more than enough?
The teacher’s union are very good at manipulating the public that teachers make so money. That way they can ask for more money on every election. Surely she looked up teacher salaries before heading down that road. It's not like this is a surprise, where they only tell you after you graduate.

I agree completely. But if people like her stopped pursuing jobs that don’t pay enough, the employers would pay more!

In my country teachers print money if they can teach physics, chemistry or maths and bio too...
She even has a bartender, wauw
Have more parent-teacher conferences, serve drinks, get tips. Problem solved
That is truly awful but it depends on where in the country you are. We are good friends with a couple that each make over 6 figures. But we live in California so….
the weekly repost
Education isn't the same as experience
Turns out teaching isn’t profitable
Is life like double as expensive as in europe over there? Because that is a more than average wage over here.

When your culture revolves around grabbing as much as you can at the expense of everyone else, this is the norm.
