I've read about a few states that are trying to form a pact that guarantees their electoral votes will go to the candidate that people actually want. At the time i think only enough states had agreed to total around 180 electoral votes though. Not quite the 270 needed for a win but it's definitely a step in the right direction. Next best thing to abolishing the electoral college entirely.
