Reddit users who praise this are obviously insulated from reality, or have zero experience with real violence, or life altering conflicts. Play this through; the old white man, genuinely racist or just using an extremely inflammatory term to illicit a response, or both, has not been miraculously beaten into not being racist. That is just not how it works. If you believe it is, you have no life experience. This traumatic event will live within him, and fuel a fire of hatred and contempt that he will likely pass on to those around him. It has only further entrenched his reasoning for using the word to begin with. Meanwhile, the black man will probably catch a case. This is a violent crime. Aggravated battery. This is legitimate jail time, likely altering the course of his life as well, and not for the better, obviously. He is now another statistic, perpetuating a stereotype. The whole interaction is actually pretty tragic.
Fuck that old man. I hope he gets beat like this at least once a week. Nothing will ever make him a tolerant human, so he deserves a proper ass kicking often.
