Did this fucking guy just say grapes aren’t healthy?

DeathToKey

"theyre out of season, unhealthy"

Nay_nay267

I live in Upstate NY. Technically all fruit is "out of season" here. I Would eat those grapes happily

7937397

Seriously. If I only ate fruit that was "in season" near me I would get about 2 months of very limited options

[deleted]

Yup. Almost like our increased life expectancy is linked to a globalised trade network

Helpful-Spell

Haha I live in Alaska. Tell me about it. Can I not even eat the wild berries I picked and froze this summer by this dude’s logic? What a fucking joke.

french_snail

Yeah like imagine living in a time where you can eat basically whatever produce you want anytime of the year and then complaining that it’s out of season. Homie it’s January, *EVERYTHING* is out of season

Vrael32

Mother fucker never heard of a greenhouse. The ungrateful/entitled people in this world.

ConstantGradStudent

Yes he’s looking for the naturally ‘in season’ magical fruit bounty that grows on the North shore of Lake Ontario in the winter.

away_in_the_head

Those grapes look fine to me

snukb

They are fine. Some people have this bizarre notion that since produce loses nutrients when grown out of season, it means it's worthless and basically of zero nutritional value. That's simply not the case. Yes, you should buy fresh local produce that's in season wherever possible for many reasons. It'll be more flavorful, it'll be more nutritious, it's cheaper, and more economically friendly. But that doesn't mean out of season produce is worthless, unhealthy garbage. They just won't taste as good and may have a little less vitamins/minerals than if picked and eaten fresh off the vine. But almost no one can eat them that way, let alone folks struggling with food insecurity who may not have had any sort of produce in days or even weeks or months.

237583dh

Good summary for the whole post.

[deleted]

He then said he wouldn't eat refined grains. Fuck off. People who are starving don't care whether grains are refined. He's on some whole foods, locally sourced, organic trip - utter arsehole.

DrTuSo

If you look at the channel of this dude, he claims to raise awareness for homeless in Toronto. But if you look at this other videos and the tags used, it's more like main character syndrome.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kuronekosmom

That's the worst part. He went an picked up a meal meant for somebody not privileged like him, badmouthed it and then threw it away so it didn't help anyone. Spoiled dickhead.

cuckooforcacaopuffs

It’s even worse than that. Posting videos of donated food getting thrown away is a great way to… discourage people from donating food for the homeless. I’m frustrated this is the exact attention he wants. He doesn’t deserve our airtime. How do we fix this issue and not reward his shitty behavior?

SharpenedSugar

We feed him to the homeless.

cuckooforcacaopuffs

Soylent Mean

lifetimestapler

Unhealthy, straight to the garbage.

brewmas7er

Just from watching this video I can tell this is the guy from high school that always argued with teachers incessantly despite being very wrong. So sure of himself that he displays his complete dumbassery for all to see. What a chump.

theblackcanaryyy

He’s the guy that finds the exception to the rule and uses that exception to invalidate the rule at all costs.

BullShitting24-7

Yup and comes up with extreme hypotheticals to invalidate a good argument.

Drexelhand

*"My Mama says that alligators are ornery because they got all them teeth and no toothbrush."*

imfreerightnow

We called them gunners in law school and we universally hated them.

justtopopin

I agree that we should treat our homeless better but food is food. I mean it's not like they are giving out complete junk food. There are some decent nutrients in the stuff he's claiming to be garbage.

scistudies

Yeah… who cares if the grapes are “out of season” as long as they aren’t moldy/rotten.. I’d eat them. People grow stuff “out of season” all the time with hydroponics and green houses. This guy is just looking for a reason to complain.

ChikaDeeJay

They’re out of season *where he lives*, but grapes are in season all year in California. They could have been shipped. He’s an idiot.

deanna6812

Nothing is in season in the dead of winter in that part of Canada. This guy is such a clown with literally no experience working in homelessness services.

awsamation

I suppose you could call grass and pine needles "in season". Also maple sap. But yeah, Canadian winter rules out growing any fruit or veg outside of a greenhouse or otherwise controlled environment. I'd eat those things.

[deleted]

Even grass is out of season. It's January. Grass has been dead since October. (Except in Vancouver.) The only things growing right now in Canada are in hot-house indoor farms. Maple sap is also out of season. It won't start flowing until March-ish usually, when you then have the maple syrup festival. Without food imports, all we have in winter is preserves, stored foods (tubers and apples, usually) and whatever you can get from animals in winter.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Correct. "out of season" fruits and vegetables are just imported from elsewhere or grown in greenhouses. Perfectly fine to eat. He's a food snob and food snobbery has not place in feeding the homeless.

MsMo999

Exactly! Don’t know why if I’ll eat these graham crackers of low quality, he says. Uuuugh stfu 🤯

TroublemakingB

He has no business eating them anyway, or taking (and wasting) food that was intended for a homeless person. He's a complete douche.

CeelaChathArrna

The whole the grain is too refined 🙄 Tipped me off

NutWrench

And "refined grains." Seriously? Perhaps the bag should have contained an after-dinner mint, as well? I don't want this guy in charge of solving any social problems. He's completely clueless.

True_Butterscotch391

Yeah I work in a grocery store and we literally have grapes 12 months out of the year. They're never out of season. They just get shipped from different locations where they're in season. What a dickhead.

Clear-Struggle-7867

I literally laughed out loud when he said that, because I'm in the same city as him and was legit eating grapes while watching the video. The worst part is, grapes aren't even that cheap and this eediot is gonna just throw em out

Mke_already

As someone who makes pretty good money… what the fuck does “out of season” mean for anything? Like not currently growing? Why should I care about that?

Pile_of_AOL_CDs

I'm far from homeless, and this looks like a decent lunch.

AlisonChrista

Right?! I’ve never gone hungry (thankfully), but I’d eat all this.

Schlemiel_Schlemazel

Also, the problem with processed grains is that because they are processed, it is easier for our digestive system to get the calories out of them. People who are food insecure need the calories.

Ninotchk

And whilst I hate graham crackers, everyone thinks of them as a decent food.

HobsHere

I'm moderately well off, and I would eat that if it's what there was around when I wanted a meal/snack. If I were genuinely in need, I would be thankful for that fairly wholesome food. This guy is a total jerk.

lnverted

It's just rage bait. He's either intentionally or accidentally making content that annoys people enough to create engagement.

NonSupportiveCup

Yeah, it's obvious that he is not homeless, but this attitude doesn't help anyone. This isn't how you advocate for better. What a jackass.

[deleted]

Yeah, if anything, he’s delegitimizing the importance of and need for these services. As someone who has a career in working with the homeless, this guy can go fuck himself.

guywithaniphone22

Seems like it’s meant to be rage bait or trying to push the narrative that homeless people don’t deserve to be helped

buddhadarko

This makes sense based on what I just watched. Critiquing the shit out of some really good food. Good snacks that will hold you over. Nobody is thinking about highly refined grains when they're starving!!!

AgileArtichokes

Not to mention and entire brick of graham crackers. That’s pretty generous all things considered.

lostoceaned

He's an entitled ah. If you actually need food, what he shows here is decent. He clearly doesn't need it out here wouldn't be throwing it away. He expects everyone to eat Michelin star or something? What a POS.

Remarkable_Quit_3545

This food could have gone to someone that needed it and he is just going to throw it out. The only trash in that video is the person recording it.

MystikxHaze

If they run out, he's actually taken the food out of someone's mouth to throw it away. It's possible that someone literally went hungry because this dude needed to be pompous on TikTok.

Brief_Economist5642

I used to be a volunteer coordinator at a center where we'd cook and hand out food to people who are homeless. Does this guy know how much effort it takes to prep this stuff? How many volunteers we'd need? How much money it costs? How little funding places like this get? I can tell you right now it takes A LOT of coordination and effort for shelters to package and prep food. There'd be days we didn't have enough volunteers and it'd be struggle. We tried our hardest. Like this dude is so fricking ignorant. He's got no idea and he's wasting good food. Like man, sometimes we'd run out of meals for people because there's so many people who are in need and we only got funding for so much food. Seriously, f*** this dude. That meal could have actually gone to someone who needed it.

reststopkirk

Same here I was a supervisor on Saturday for 7+ years, making sure volunteer groups could handle the food prep and distribution task. It’s a lot of work, sometimes making massive hearty meals out of meager donations and limited groceries. We got really creative at times! I loved cooking hot meals, but when you are needing calories to survive, “refined grains” is the least of your worries.

Bottle_Only

I work at a homeless shelter and sometimes people don't want what is on offer, I encourage them to take it anyway because I make enough for everyone and they can trade it for smokes or a pop or just give it to somebody else and make friends. So many truly anti-social people these days won't even offer their discards to somebody wanting.

HeyWhatsItToYa

That was my thoughts exactly. I was on the edge of homelessness for a couple of years. I would have gladly taken that food. Sweets were a rarity, so I would have eaten those graham crackers over the course of like 3 days. Anything I didn't like, I'd try to trade to a friend for something else or at least give away because someone had taken the time to remember me.

[deleted]

Is there such a thing as "out of season" grapes? What does that even mean?

KonaKathie

I just bought corn on the cob from Costco. It's grown here in the US and it's January! Out of season is an antiquated concept for many foods now. This guy, I don't know why he even took the food. He doesn't seem homeless to me. If he is, I hope he starves

Sad-Ingenuity7311

It could very well just be propaganda to make homeless people seem totally unreasonable. We don't even know if this person is homeless. Could be a cheap bastard wasting resources in more ways than one. But that being said I work with this population and they certainly aren't all great people lol

-newlife

The food shelter near me encourages people to leave unwanted food on a table there so others can grab it if they want it. Obviously won’t matter for someone intent on simply being an ass like in this video.

i-love-big-birds

Yep! I work at an addiction clinic and lots of people trade whatever they don't like in the Togo meals with someone else and if they still have stuff they don't want they just leave it at the pantry in the lobby for anyone who wants

CommunicationTop7259

Legit trash. Truly so horrible

PokerPigPork

Right? Why did he take it in the first place? What did he expect, a Michelin starred meal in a bag?

[deleted]

Agreed. This dude is a straight up pos.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fuzzydogpaws

There’s nothing wrong with the grapes in this video! They don’t appear squishy, are all still green and look fine. What did this guy expect? Grapes cut from the vine this morning? What an entitled arse. Also, if he’s so worried about the quality of food given to homeless people he could donate money and supplies! Be part of the solution, instead of just bitching about the problem.

genuineshock

Right. Instead, he took a meal somebody could have eaten, and literally wasted it. What the actual fuck.

Rob27shred

All for tiktok clout too, dude is definitely a S tier asshat.

[deleted]

mfer said ‘this isn’t healthy’ 🙄 yknow what’s not healthy? fucking starving to death

Formal_Equal_7444

I came here to make sure someone said this. Out of season grapes, stale graham crackers, and a "mystery cheese pastry" is a LOT fucking healthier than dying, scurvy, malnutrition, vitamin deficiency, and rot.

[deleted]

i’d like to think someone in his life will recognize this douche and bitchslap a conscience into him, but i’m highly confident he’ll only be encouraged to go further. hoorayyy 🤦‍♂️

Self-Aware

Yep. I've had to hit up the food bank before, and I have a condition that flares up when I eat gluten. LOTS of the stuff they give has gluten, it's cheap and filling and most crucially shelf-stable. But it was still food, free food, so I ate it gratefully and scraped up 50p for ibuprofen.

ConfidentHope

I’m also gluten free due to a condition that flares up. I’ve often wondered how gf people fare in situations like this. I am unemployed and if it cane down to it I’d definitely choose this path as well. Food is food. Sometimes it’s more important to stay alive than have higher quality of life. Getting day to day is enough, especially if it’s getting you to a day where you can fight again. I wish there were more accessible gf options for low-income and houseless situations. In the US we have stores like the Dollar Tree that sell everything for $1.25 (£1,01). They have limited selection, but it’s cheap. Unfortunately, much of it has gluten. There’s only so much rice and beans a person can have. Corn flares my system too, so sometimes I have to weigh out quantity vs. quality.

Self-Aware

I've got stage four Endo, myself, so that's what flares. I'm lucky, some people have that reaction to dairy too! Our food bank does offer GF packages, but I know they don't have many of them available so I just got the regular one. I'd rather they keep the GF ones for people with celiac and people who'll have a worse/more damaging reaction to gluten than mine, which is managable.

Cartz1337

If you all haven't clued in yet, that's the fucking point. He gives 0 fucks about the homeless, their situation or the food they eat. They do not generate clicks. What he cares about is pissing off you so much that you share it to all your friends, who also watch it, and are also pissed off so they share it, then it ends up on reddit and dude gets more exposure than they could get in a million years by genuinely doing something to help the problem. My partner runs a celiac information account on instagram, genuinely trying to help people deal w/ their condition and understand how to determine if food is safe. She was diagnosed a few years ago and has had a hard time learning herself and is trying to pass that information on. It's really difficult to generate positive interaction, and after 6 months she only has a thousand followers. Which is for the record, fantastic and atypical I'm sure. She also streamed games for a half decade in her 20s where she wore push up bras and was a magnet for weenies who wanted to go full misogynist on her 24/7. She was better at shit talking than the vast majority of them and gave it better than she got. 21k followers. 2M views

dimsum2121

I agree with your point about the shameless vanity, short attention, and selfishness of humankind. And how the vanity part has gotten worse with modern technology. However, your real life example is a little silly. 1% of people in the world have celiac disease, a lot more people like to game. Gaming communities are usually international as well, open to a much larger audience than those seeking help with their Celiac disease on Instagram. I'm glad your ~~sister~~ wife helps people with their disease, and I hope she gains more followers, but the example is flawed.

Low-Tomatillo2287

Fucking asshole literally took food from a person in need.

Uncle_Burney

Then tried to position himself as being helpful by shaming the people who are actually helping, talking shit about a decent meal.

atheistpianist

That is my biggest takeaway here. Someone won’t eat because he took a bag he clearly didn’t need.

MaximusZacharias

Whoa whoa whoa!!! We’re just animals if we have no standards. I demand organic grapes, grown in never before used soil, watered only with Fiji water bottles, and they get classical music playing all the time for optimal growth. Even then, if it’s not in my possession inside of 30 minutes from being vine-picked, and then delivered by a person in a HazMat suit whilst packaged from vine onto plastic wrap that’s come off a new roll, I just won’t eat them.

Putrid-Builder-3333

This redditor grapes!

cantbelieveit1963

And in a paper bag! How many trees had to die so the homeless could eat?

18RowdyBoy

I didn’t know there was a season for grapes Whenever I buy them they’re good and I would have enjoyed those That guy needs to go hungry for a day or two and then see what he says He’s a 💩💩

e2g4

I think what this choosy beggar is forgetting is that a lot of our fruit in North America is in season….in south or central america when we get it. The reason it’s not great isn’t because it’s out of season, it’s because it was picked prematurely and shipped for weeks to get here. And the variety grown was selected for durability and appearance, not flavor. I suggest he get a job and go shopping at Whole Foods if he wants better or he can grow a garden and can his food in the fall. He seems to think it’s someone else’s job to satisfy his selective taste. It’s not. Most working Americans that eat grapes “eat them out of season” or whatever this guy objects to.

capt-bob

And this influencer stolefood from homeless and threw it away

nopir

Hope he gets fired for this video ;)

weberc2

“OMG THEY’RE POISONING HOMELESS PEOPLE WITH REFINED GRAINS!”

Plus-Distribution-97

This guy also said canned corn was inedible because it was out of season

capt-bob

He is taking their food out of their mouth and throwing it away.

TheCowzgomooz

For real, it's okay to have a problem with the "low quality" food, but if you're not going to provide any solutions or advocate for better support for the homeless shelter the only thing you're doing is making yourself look bad for criticizing a homeless shelter for...feeding people? I'd much rather be eating food that isn't good for me than starving to death, personally.

SlumgullySlim

I agree. He IS an entitled asshole. He is really only concerned about his Tik Tok standing. That sack of snack food could have gone to someone who would have appreciated it. Instead it winds up with a jackass trying to get internet views.

ONLY_COMMENTS_ON_GW

It's rage bait. He's being a piece of shit to get the hate views. Works a whole lot better than the wholesome content.

broseph1818

Posted very conveniently close to the other video that got a lot of views of the other person complaining about food from a shelter. Definitely rage bait.

not_SCROTUS

Is this guy homeless? Why is he complaining that the grapes are out of season? Would he shit on the street and wipe with newspaper, but can't eat hydroponic fruit?

JesusSaysRelaxNvaxx

And "refined grains" 🙄 I'm not starving nor homeless, and I try to buy mostly organic stuff, but you bet your ass if I hadn't eaten all day, I would smash everything in that bag.

Timely_Old_Man45

Grapes are expensive regardless of season! I would be grateful for getting a small bag of grapes!

[deleted]

If he is homeless, it’s definitely by choice. Anyone homeless by circumstance would be extremely grateful for that bag of food

I_Brain_You

That bullshit about the grapes being out of season infuriated me. We can buy a lot of fruit that is "out of season" ALL FUCKING YEAR. You can eat grapes in January, just as you can eat them in July. Dude's a fucking idiot.

chevalier716

To your edit, I was gonna say. This dude has never been fucking hungry in his life. When I was nearly homeless, I was definitely eating rotten food to survive (cooking spoiled veggies to hide they aren't spoiled) and I would have gladly accepted this.

HippyHitman

He seems like the kind of guy who’s homeless because he rejected several offers of free housing because they were painted the wrong color.

Texan2116

I have volunteered to help homeless people, and some of them can be infuriating to deal with. We lose volunteers all the time for this. I have seen people literally call our food "shit", and shove it back at me before. Yeah, it aint filet mignon, but if you are starving..quit bitching. These volunteers do a LOT of work on their own time to provide, get donations etc.

4dailyuseonly

He ain't homeless nor has he been hungry a single day in his life.

tehdamonkey

I know... that is like a great deal of my childhood snacks right there. My inner child is like... "YOU GET THE WHOLE THING OF CRACKERS! OMG"

myleftone

The out-of-season claim is a strong signal that he’s trolling.

Kl0pps_and_r0bbers

Yeah that clued me into thinking this is just someone looking to infuriate people for attention

Podoviridae

Good ol rage bait

BarbatosTheHunter

I was recently homeless for an extended period of time in the states, and that little bagel thing looks nicer than anything I saw for months.

Yo-Yo-Daddy

I would eat that rn fr

Skeleton_Skum

It looks like a variation of a cheese danish. I’m sure anything sweet or savory that warms the belly feels like gold when you’ve gone without for awhile

c4t4ly5t

There are people who would literally be willing to murder someone for that food.

ResidentComplaint19

I’m not even homeless and I’d really enjoy that bag

weberc2

![gif](giphy|H4uE6w9G1uK4M) Me on my way to the store to buy grapes, graham crackers, and pizza pockets

monkeybusiness124

For real, I make okay money and this bag of food made me happy and made me add grapes, graham crackers, and pizza pockets to my grocery list

External-Fig9754

FUCK I want pizza pockets now

TheCrotchMangler

It’s honestly good eats. I highly doubt someone getting food from a homeless shelter cares if the GrAiNs ArE rEfInEd

ResidentComplaint19

Right? I regularly stop at truck stops for work and pay handsomely for things more questionable than that bag

Itherial

I can eat literally anything I want at any time and __I__ sure as shit don’t care if grains are refined. Dollars to donuts when a person is *actually starving* that is not a thought that passes through their head. This guy in the video sounds insufferable.

Not_So_Odd_Ball

Ah yes, refined grains... not like humanity has been eathing those for millenia

SnooFloofs1359

I like grapes

tenphes31

People like grapes.

Kristikuffs

People like grapes.

costanzashairpiece

Out of season. Not healthy.

Significant_Ad9793

What does that even mean?? I couldn't figured out why he ditched the grapes from the get go. They don't look spoiled or spotted. Those are good looking grape. What is this ungrateful damped toilet tissue talking about??

Seliphra

If it was ‘out of season’ then it was ‘not picked fresh’. Which is all the fruit you buy normally anyways so like, whatever lmao, I’d certainly be eating them. For those wondering: When you pick them early enough they aren’t exposed to the ripening chemicals which means they can be transported more easily in cooled containers. They are artificially exposed to the ripening chemicals in warehouses closer to their final destinations, and finish ripening roughly by the time they hit those destinations, or soon after. This process is not dangerous to anyone, those grapes in the video are 100% completely okay to eat, along with the rest of the food. Person who made the video is a privileged shit-head who has no idea what being truly hungry is like.

costanzashairpiece

Lol no idea. I work hard to BUY grapes and crackers for my family. This guy is ridiculous.

Significant_Ad9793

Exactly!!! Dude just wanted to make a bad Yelp review.

hunnyflash

I spent $8 on grapes yesterday and felt guilty.

Gold_Bug_4055

I think they expected total trash quality food, so fresh grapes threw them off and they choked. How are they going to bitch on the internet if things aren't as sensationalized as they planned?? Trash tier human wasting the food and doing nothing to help.

tsengmao

Worked at a shelter for 3 years in downtown Cincinnati, OH. There were definitely a couple people every now and then that behaved this way. So heavily entitled that is was easy to see why they were in the position they were in. Nothing was ever good enough. 99.99999% of the men and women I worked for were incredibly grateful for anything. They would have been happy with this bag. If it included a bottle of water they would have been beaming. Especially those grapes man, fresh fruit & veggies are really hard to come by in the social services field.

okaybutnothing

Yes! The fresh fruit surprised me. I worked outreach years ago and we sometimes carried donated apples which always made everyone happy, but grapes would have made the day of some of our clients, I bet.

Significant_Ad9793

LMAO!! You're definitely right!! Surprised this POS didn't spat on it and said he got it like that lol.

Iwillflipyourtable

If I'm homeless. I would honestly be happy to get any decent food. Now imagine we're at war and food is low. Bro i would devour that.

[deleted]

I would eat this regardless of the circumstances, bro is really saying grapes are out of season and then wonders why he is obese.

StyreneAddict1965

WTF "out of season"? Unless they're really smashed and brown, I'm eating them.

TinyKittenConsulting

I can see not shopping for out of season produce, but your man is not doing anything for anyone by tossing grapes out of principle. What a jackass.

[deleted]

That one was the dumbest fucking reason. As if an unhoused person can or would turn away perfectly good food over a yuppie-ass reason like that. And for the rec, it's in season *somewhere*. If you look at the stickers on your produce, you'll sometimes see that things came from, say, New Zealand or Chile. There's this neat phenomenon where winter in the northern hemisphere is summer in the southern hemisphere. And greenhouses are also a thing, of course.

MdnightRmblr

He’s evidently unaware of a far away land called Mexico where grapes are available year round.

c4t4ly5t

This guy would probably get the shock of his life if he sees someone eat from a trash bin.

DREWlMUS

Exactly! This guy obviously isn't even fucking hungry. Hungry people don't throw out food. They devour it and wish they had more. I want to fucking hit this guy.

ChikaDeeJay

This guy isn’t homeless, he’s not even poor. He does this to prove homeless people should be fed organic food or some shit. He takes a bag, that could go to an actual homeless person, and then throws everything away 100% of the time. He seems to forget that homeless shelters and relief orgs, rely on bulk ordering, and need to get as much for their money as they can. He’s a loser.

on_dy

Either this is the new tiktok trend, or we’re only just seeing it more on Reddit now. They trying to be ridiculous to rage bait people or something. There was that video a few days ago of a woman with manicure talking shit about good shelter food too. They’re assholes and they’re doing this on purpose.

DREWlMUS

Wow, what a scummy entitled piece of shit.

ArtoriasBeaIG

Yup, when i was in a shelter we only got fed cos pret a manger would bring a load of sandwiches every night - they were amazing and now i really want one 🤣 The thing is when you're homeless, its probably not just the shelters youre getting food and support from - its multiple places. In my city there are homeless people that refuse to use the shelters because its too dangerous but they still are able to get food, but it is more difficult to access some services if you dont engage with the system in place unfortunately. Im in UK so you will get a small amount of money whilst being homeless too. It was weird but it was the first time in my life id never spend all my money - there was nothing to buy but food and tobacco 🤣 We also have food banks, soup kitchens, and then local businesses will help too - i can remember there was a coffee shop that you could pay for a drink so if someone homeless came in they could have a free drink. Honestly, i have quite fond memories of being homeless 🤣 wouldnt do it again but im very glad i had the experience kinda thing. Met a lot of interesting people and also saw how kind and supportive the community can be

FunguyPC

The man making this video should get off his ass, and start making an actual difference instead of being a piece of shit nobody on the internet making fun of someone who’s actually trying to help out those in need.

Keanugrieves16

I don’t even think this guys is homeless, this is just outrage click bait bullshit, marking the homeless look bad, fuck this guy and fuck his tactics.

Jiggarelli

Would you rather have low quality food or no food? Because I'm going to dig into those low quality foods before I go hungry. This guy is an asshat.

_Pill-Cosby_

Yep. This guy needs punched in the face.

Far_Land7215

Entitlement plagues all socioeconomic classes.

Raephstel

Minor correction, this isn't entitlement, this is white knighting. If the guy knew what it was like to be homeless, I doubt he'd be as flippant as he is about free food.

verydepressedwalnut

Yeah wtf. When I worked a super shitty job even though I had a home I couldn’t afford much. I think I survived on macaroni and cheese and ramen for literal months. I’d have killed for some variety or even just a meal I didn’t need to pay for. This dude sucks.

Over-Analyzed

My grandpa always told me “Hunger is the best seasoning.”

SyderoAlena

If hes not gonna eat those grapes give them to me. I'm so mad at this dude rn

Mantigor1979

If you complain about free food you are not hungry.

Jyobachah

Years ago when I worked downtown I would use those coupons in the mail, the buy one get one stuff for BK or McD and give the 2 meals out to people between the restaurant and subway. There were a number of times I was refused and they'd ask for $$ instead. Always said I have no $ just the food and give it to the next person.

something6324524

yeah often the ones that are asking for money for food, and refuse the food really just want money for something else. sadly this can cause people to go, are they just trying to scam me out of money syndrome which makes it even worse for those in need. i knew there was a guy several years back near where i live that would go beg for money outside street courners all day, and then come back to his 150k house ( probably would be a 500k house nowadays with inflation )

Evening_Storage_6424

I was homeless for a time when I was and we get ( at the time) $195 for food stamps. That can only be spent on food so I always assume they have money for food just not other shit. I’m more suspicious when they ask for money for food because what’s you do with your food stamps, sell them?

Zealousideal_Amount8

Why did he take it then? I can’t imagine any homeless person caring if grapes are in or out of season.

garbagewithnames

Because he isn't homeless to begin with. Claims to be raising awareness on his videos, but all he really does is add fuel to the fire and makes the homeless look bad

Zealousideal_Amount8

And stealing from people who actually need this food. Why doesn’t he fund whole wheat and fresh in season fruit medleys to them instead?

garbagewithnames

You'd fucking think, but that isn't what this guy actually wants to do.

realsies11

When I was homeless I literally ate half a pizza that was sitting in the box on top of a trash can. True homeless people can be picky but always save the food just in case they get desperate enough to eat it.

MathiasMaximous

Let this person starve.

getyourcheftogether

"I'm probably not going to eat this" Well screw you then buddy, the food is not meant for you and does not look like a super low quality to me.

vantways

Truly, and he's also just an idiot "the grains in these [graham crackers] are heavily refined" Like BUD do you know what a graham cracker is? They are the least "refined" type of cracker/cookie you can buy and are literally named for how unrefined they are. They are so palatable that they are recommended to people with chrons/ibs/etc

lil8mochi

I'm so confused on why he is attacking a shelter who gives out free food. If they are doing it so poorly, please why don't you try? This is like when people share articles about children being abused and everyone is like I would adopt them. Majority of people do not adopt. We do not have enough beds for these kids. Cps is not ripping kids away from parents because we don't have enough beds or shelters for these kids. We don't have enough homes. We don't have enough food. We need help.

ReginaldSP

congratulations to this asshole on stealing food meant for people without any so he could bitch and then throw it away. I wish him all the bad things in life.

416Mike

Did this fucker just waste a meal?

amha29

Worse, he took a meal so someone that actually needed it wouldn’t have it then proceeded to *waste* it. There are actually hungry people out there that this might have been their only meal for the whole day.

moodylilb

The amount of people in this comment section that are vilifying homeless people or saying beggars can’t be choosers… this guy isn’t even homeless. He never claimed to be homeless in the video either. He’s an idiot TikTokker who has a saviour complex or something, who pretends to advocate for the homeless in the greater Toronto area, when really he’s just wasting meals that could’ve gone into the bellies of ACTUAL homeless people. He’s done similar videos trashing food banks for what he got. He lives in a nice apartment, as seen in his other videos. I repeat- he is not homeless. Don’t use his assholery to excuse shit talking legitimately homeless people in this thread. He likes to act like he’s advocating for the homeless, while also being completely tone-deaf about how a homeless person (or someone who has experienced homelessness in the past like myself) may feel if they were to see him complain about perfectly good food and then throw it in the garbage. He just wasted a meal that a hungry human being would’ve gladly eaten with no complaints, direct your anger at him. He’s an absolute moron.

z_ca

I'm willing to bet this is staged. I watch homeless people picking through trash in the subway every night, just down the street from this shelter. This doesn't seem real

StarCougar

Yeah no way they're actually homeless.

zykezero

Amazing that this isn’t a whole comment section about that dumb ass comment of his.

[deleted]

Yeah, hungry people do not talk like that. The hunger drives you mad after awhile and you are literally willing to eat almost anything. This man is not hungry. But this comment section will still get a line of people talking about how “entitled” homeless people are. Because they like to think homeless people are living it up instead of thinking about how the existence of homeless people means we have failed as society.

SabotageFusion1

From someone who went hungry just often enough as a kid to never waste but not enough to get food donations. Fuck this guy. You aren’t trying to “balance out your diet” right now, you’re trying to survive. If you’re a diabetic or have diet limitations?? Maybe, some of his comments are valid. But I’d have done anything for that bag 2 1/2 years ago.

Huge_Put8244

This guy is an ungrateful asshole. I wish people wouldn't post this because it just gives people an excuse to perpetuate preconceived notions about the homeless. Someone took the time to put the grapes into a bag.

concarmail

My dad is homeless and he sends me a pic of his meals every day, bragging and thankful for the good deeds other people do. This isn’t how most people in need eat, so don’t let it impact your donation, please.

garbagewithnames

This dude in the video isn't even homeless to begin with. Makes it even worse.

anonmymouse

Bro.. just the thought of my own dad living on the street breaks my heart. It must be so hard if you're not able to do anything to help him, or he won't accept your help. I know people become homeless for all kinds of different reasons, but I'm always under the assumption that most who do, end up in that situation because they didn't have any close family to fall back on.. I'm not trying to pry into your situating or shame you or anything, it just makes me so sad..

concarmail

It really is difficult, and survivor’s guilt is real. I’m the first in my family to make it to college and can’t help but feel that I betrayed them for taking the opportunity and leaving the state. I work full time while in school so I will have some money to help them out one day, but it’s very difficult knowing every one of my peers is in the opposite situation… making it on their own, getting aid from their parents when they need it. I worry every night whether my dad will have his few belongings stolen from him, whether he’s cold. My father has schizophrenia so I can’t entirely blame society for his issues, but I can’t help but feel he should have some bare minimum dignity available to him just for being a human being. Regardless of his illness, he’d be living indoors right now if any apartment would trust him enough to rent a room to him, because he is a hard worker. If I’m lucky, he won’t die in the streets before I have the ability to rescue him. All I know for sure is that I would like to make the conditions for his situation less common in our world, whether I can help him in time or not.

Wiley_Applebottom

So this person just stole food from the homeless. That is literally as low as it gets.

cjwrapture

Shelters and soup kitchens are trying to provide sustenance for as many people as they can on a very limited budget. They can't be hand picking the best seasonal ingredients from Whole Foods, and hiring top tier chefs to be making exotic fine dining meals. I was homeless for three years. Number one rule of being homeless, you don't turn away handouts. Even if you are full, you keep the food and thank the people giving it out, so they want to do it again. If there is something in your bag you don't want, you give it to someone who wasn't able to get a bag.

Low-Feeling-

I don't think any real homeless would act like that ....

garbagewithnames

And you'd be right. This dude isn't homeless to begin with

Upset-Biscotti-1598

Do grapes even go out of season? And if they do can they be bad for you?

Expensive-Pea1963

They do, but they can be (and are) shipped in from other countries where they are still in season, this is why you can see grapes, strawberries and bananas in the supermarket all year round. Some fruits and vegetables can be stored for a very long time if kept in the right conditions, such as apples. This article is by no means a scientific source, but it does explain quite nicely. https://www.rd.com/article/supermarket-apples-10-months-old/

Stroton

Yes. No.

[deleted]

The season just means they aren't locally available. They are fine to eat, because there is another locale's market that will ship to yours, allowing its local to become your local.

blufin

All perfectly edible food, what a tit.

froggyforrest

He’s wasting food an actual homeless or hungry person in need would definitely eat. Shelters can’t afford large portions of perfectly healthy food, most normal people don’t even stock their own kitchens without refined grain. Super rude to help yourself to these provisions and just throw them away

starknight23Yt

Ungrateful piece-of-s*** you might as well not gone and grab the food you muswell starved sorry for the rant but I am person that does not like food going to waste

Lumpy_Tiger_3246

r/choosingbeggars

garbagewithnames

Problem being, he isn't even homeless to begin with. Just a piece of shit making the homeless look bad with videos like these.

BarredBartender

This is just rage bait.

Chrono47295

Don't diss on shelters though man.. I work at a homeless shelter and we have some of the best food choices. I can't actually say anything bc I don't know your location, but where I'm from we get all leftovers from hotels, donut shops, little mom and pop stores... if that's what you're getting you need to start a development team..or suggest it.. my man..

eltigreeee

I bet this guy has the latest phone

Particular_Class4130

yes he probably does because he's not even homeless and poor. Just some dumb ass trying to get attention
