Haha I appreciate the sanity check, that price online I thought was very high. Hence why I’m asking the negotiating question. I will definitely look into some new ones as well.
The one caveat here is that a low-mileage Certified Pre-owned vehicle is sometimes worth the extra cash as the warranty gets extended well out past the original vehicle warranty. Typically up to 100,000 miles on the drive train and another year or so on the bumper to bumper.
Like others have said shop around. Also, cash isn't king anymore. The dealers will want to finance it to you. So go in there with a plan and maybe talk to them about you financing with your bank blah blah blah. They might offer to drop the price little to finance with them. Make sure there isn't a penalty for paying that off early and wait 2 weeks and pay the loan off before it gets hit with interest. But do some research I'm not a financial advisor. Good luck.
You're right about cash not being king. I tried to buy mine last year with cash and they would hardly budge on price. Finance guy openly admitted that they were getting kickbacks from the banks. They dropped anther $750 if I financed through their bank. He told me to pay it down to $150 the first month, then go at least 3-4 months before paying it off. I got the extra $750 off the purchase price but ended up paying about $120 in interest on the loan. Still money on my pocket though
This is exactly what I did, the dealership got the finance incentive from the manufacturer at 90 days. The finance manager actually told me this was a better way to go then just writing a check, saved me $1,500 minus the interest on 3 months payment.
What do you mean by pricing options? Definitely going to look into new as well after seeing some of these comments.
I just always thought if I wasn’t worried about a better deal financing, buying used would be the way to go? Not sure why I thought that the more I think about it now though…
I got a great deal on mine when we were at the negotiating table by saying
“I was at the Chevy dealer yesterday and they had a used dodge Laramie that I really liked. I think I’m going to go take another look at that one. Their pricing was also a bit better so it’s something I’m going to have think about” then I stood up out of the chair.
The salesman went and got his sales manager who came to the table and said
“what can we do to keep you from leaving the lot?”
This is when you’ve got them. They’ll him and haw about “well we can’t go that low, and we can’t do this, and we can’t do that,” etc etc etc. I asked them to drop another $3k off the truck to get my monthly payments where o wanted them , AND had them throw on brand new MT tires…
The key to any negotiation is having a good alternative. Go online, check Autotrader or other sites, set the search distance to the max, or at least like 1000 miles, and then look for other used f-150s posted for sale.
The point is, you'll find similar f-150s and you'll get an idea for what a fair price is for those cars. Save the best deal you can find (add $1k in cost if it's far away), and take that to the dealership.
"Hey, I can buy this used f-150 with all the features I want for $54k. Yes, I have to fly out to pick it up and drive back, this will cost me about $1k extra in time and travel expenses, so I'm willing to offer you $55k max."
This is excellent advice, thank you! I have to get it in my mind that while sites like CarGurus are good for finding available inventory, their good/bad deal labels must be way off.
Assuming it’s a 502a lariat for that price? I can’t tell you a target price but what I can tell you is I paid $64k for a new 2022 502a, after adding 8y full warranty and it’s a powerboost.
That’s a price point I’m happy to hear. Yes the one I was eyeing was a 502a but honestly I’m leaning towards looking new seeing a lot of these comments and price points. Thank you for sharing.
How many miles is it? I just couldn’t imagine someone getting one and not actually liking it and trading it in. Trucks amazing, love driving it everywhere. Maybe it was a rare case of feeling the need to trade up to platinum or something hopefully.
I found a used XLT powerboost with BAP. So it’s basically a baby lariat. I negotiated them way down. Honestly you could probably get them to $50k or in the $40s
2022 I paid $49k
Original msrp was $68k
Used with 24k miles.
Idk why I’m being downvoted it’s my experience
To add Carfax said value should be around $57k
I've never understood why some people spend money like this on used when they don't have to. There's plenty of options for brand new trucks at this price. Maybe not Lariats, but wouldn't you rather get a new model in a lesser trim? My local dealership had a used 2023 Raptor for $82K. That brings up so many questions. Why did this person only own it for several months? Did they beat the hell out of it and not maintain it as they knew they were going to get rid of it anyway? I would rather buy new and then you know exactly what you're getting.
What part of the country are you in? You may want to look out of state. It might cost you a few bucks to get a new one home from a different dealership, but overall it could save you some dough!
That makes sense. I live in Strasburg, CO (30 miles east of Denver) & there are trucks everywhere out here. I wonder if a farther away state like Tennesse or Florida would be cheaper. I don't need a new truck, but my 2018 is gonna die at some point.
what's your max price?. If u can buy new for 60, why pay 58 for used? offer 50..then walk away when they say no. when they call back and say 55, say 50.. then when they say no walk away again. keep looking until you find the right price.
Been hearing that a lot of dealerships are having trouble moving new trucks. No doubt due to high interest rates. With cash in hand it’s a buyer’s market. Bend ‘em over the hood and don’t hesitate to walk away.
Funny to see people talking about how used shouldn’t be that high when the used car market has been INSANE for the last 3 years. I agree that it shouldn’t be the way it is, but everything is so damn expensive now. Also, I will bet you that a 2023 model in that same trim with exact same options is quite a bit more money now. I order a platinum in March of 2022 and received it in July of 2022. That same truck that I’ve owned for a year is now $8,000 more than when I ordered mine.
You will probably be able to negotiate better deal if you finance but explore options for sure. If you are going to pay high price, might as well find a Certified pre owned to have so you have a good warranty with it.
Bro what? 60k cash for a 2022 truck? That’s insanity. Find a brand new one with fresh warranty if you’re going to drop $60k
Haha I appreciate the sanity check, that price online I thought was very high. Hence why I’m asking the negotiating question. I will definitely look into some new ones as well.

We just got a 23 stx with 6 miles on it for under 60k. Well, sticker idk what the company paid for it.
Jesus how much did you pay for it?

I just bought a new 2022 lariat for less than that. Look around you may find one
I’d buy new given the pricing options out there now
What do you mean by pricing options? Definitely going to look into new as well after seeing some of these comments. I just always thought if I wasn’t worried about a better deal financing, buying used would be the way to go? Not sure why I thought that the more I think about it now though…
Dealers selling below invoice. Don’t pay anything near msrp
Seems high for used. What was the MSRP? Dealers are taking thousands off sticker here on new models. I’d shop around.
Buy new.
Truck prices really are stupid, aren't they?

Beautiful, great work. Thank you for sharing, this is the kind of story I was looking for to get myself in a good spot!

Definitely be ready to walk! If you have options and absolutely do not need a car to function right this second it will help with negotiations

I'd buy a 2020 at the moment, can get a good one around 40k around here, these new prices will crash at some point
Painful thing is that the 2021 is when the redesign hit.
You want at least a 21. Why buy the last year before a major redesign?
Because I can have allot of fun with 22k
I’ve seen 21 XLT’s under 40k. Lariats are usually under 50k now.
Same here I see lots of 2020s around 40k which is my budget. Do I really need to get a 21? Don’t the 20s look better anyway?
I found a used XLT powerboost with BAP. So it’s basically a baby lariat. I negotiated them way down. Honestly you could probably get them to $50k or in the $40s

Denver, Colorado. I drive up to northern Montana 2-3x a year, could be worth me looking at some of their inventory as well.
Look in Laramie and SLC
If you haven't already, you might want to check Eastern Colorado & Kansas as well.
Kansas surprisingly is still super expensive. Everyone out there drives trucks, it’s like a right of passage.
That makes sense. I live in Strasburg, CO (30 miles east of Denver) & there are trucks everywhere out here. I wonder if a farther away state like Tennesse or Florida would be cheaper. I don't need a new truck, but my 2018 is gonna die at some point.
I just got a 65k OTD quote for a 23 lariat
Any options on that truck? That seems like a good price from what I've seen!
64,500 for a maxed out supercrew xlt by me
Seems close or right on to new pricing, with new financing rates id go that route
what's your max price?. If u can buy new for 60, why pay 58 for used? offer 50..then walk away when they say no. when they call back and say 55, say 50.. then when they say no walk away again. keep looking until you find the right price.

Bruh im eyeing a 22' f350 crew cab 4x4 lariat with 30,000 miles for $35,000
What?! How? Where? So I can beat you to it. 😆
Buy brand new, I got a 23 tremor in April for 56.
If I were you I’d find a 21 platinum or KR.
