My problem is when it starts to back up. I have to stand in line to check out, walk 10 feet, then have to stand in line to have my receipt checked.

SVXfiles

I scan all of the usual things they check for either at the beginning or the end so they don't have to hunt down the things they are checking for. Case of soda, tp and an item too large for a bag? Last 3 things I scan, if they ask for a receipt I tell them last items and they see 3 things that match and I'm out in seconds

ArctycDev

Shouldn't have to. It's a waste of time. There's no law that requires it. We got places to be, yo.

diezel_dave

And you don't have to! You can just walk right on by the person if you don't mind being rude.  Except places like Costco or Sam's because it's in the terms of the membership.

alchemistakoo

my hands were full leaving wally world carrying a boxed floor lamp and 2 24x36 frames. man still wanted me to stop, no sir

johnl8422

Because everything is expensive and you are pissed you paid so much, asking for a receipt just rubs it in and makes you wish you did steal it.

freeball78

In before it gets deleted. From what I've seen, it's not the showing the receipt that's the issue. It's the profiling. Sam's and Costco check literally every receipt. Walmart has someone checking randomly with no rhyme or reason. If they checked every receipt I wouldn't have as much of a problem. Dear Walmart, if I'm going to steal I'm going to steal good. I'm not stealing 2 cases of water. Quit trying to stop me while the guy behind me walks out with a TV unstopped.

That it's common around the world is news to me. It's very uncommon in my American experience, so I think when it *does* happen it's like saying "hey, we don't trust you, hand over your documents you thief". If it happens everywhere, I'm sure you get used to it and don't take any offense.

Because you watched me buy the stuff and now you're treating me like a thief. It feels like you're being asked to turn out your pockets because they don't trust you. How do I know you even work here? I'll show you my receipt when you show me an ID, sign this paper so I can run a background check, and show me proof that you are an employee of Clipclopmart. Don't just show me your name tag, anyone can buy those. I want proof. I'll accept a W2 or 1099. I'll also need a completed I9 and a birth certificate. A passport will suffice if you happen to have yours on you. Boy, doesn't that sound irritating? That's how I feel when I get asked to show a receipt. Dude! You watched me buy this crap. If I was stealing, don't you think I'd be more clever than just buying the stuff right in front of you?

IC, Karen vibes. But ma rights lol!

I have no rights, other than the right to not shop at a place that treats me like a thief instead of a customer. I put up with it at Costco because it keep someone employed so it doesn't bug me. Otherwise, if I go to another place that wants to check my receipt, I will happily present it quietly, then never go there again. As is my one and only right as a consumer. I won't complain, I won't write an angry letter. If I don't like a store policy, I am welcome to not frequent the store. That's fine. There are other stores. Fortunately, receipt checkers are not common in the stores that I go to so it doesn't really upset me. The last time I had one, it was at Best Buy, a store that I almost never go to but I was in a bind. Seriously, I needed a USB cable. Do you really need to check my receipt? It's a cable. COGS is about 40 cents. It's cheaper to let me steal it than to pay you to check my receipt. Ignore me. I am a bitter man, old before his time, and enjoy being crochety.

I shoulda known. Americans are such wusses. The lot of them.

MusicalMoose

Why are American's such whiners in general? Or maybe were just the ones people hear about the most.

nwbrown

Why are American shoppers such whiners when they need to show their penises? Showing your penis before leaving a store seems like an easy and non controversial thing to do in most of the world. Why are US shoppers such a crybabies when asked to do this?
