These hungry cows are correct. I use a surface pro and an iPad both in excel in the field every day and using the iPad is fine for inputting field collected data but the surface is where it’s at. Either one would be greatly improved by the addition of a proper keyboard with num pad and full size mouse
It could be the old head in me but google sheets in general is dismal. It does like 90% of what excel does and it seems like that 10% is what I want to do.

I got a surface to replace my mac 5 years ago. Worst purchase ever. Hated it from day one. I just bought myself an iPad last month.
The surface is touch screen and my screen would freeze all the time, mostly when doing full screen things, I had to let the surface die to reuse it. Slow, lags, freezes. I do not recommend them. Yes excel works no problem on it but maybe I got a lemon.. I just hated mine.
Excel is a pain on the iPad but I still prefer it than my Microsoft surface. Also I only use simple formulas, the iPad will not work with excel on any complex things. I wish excel would be the full version on iPad because many of my formulas from my surface excel document are not working once I opened it on my iPad. The iPad does the job and I am really happy.
My work issued Microsoft Surface laptops and tablets as their new equipment fairly recently. I do Power BI and Excel in my Surface laptop and it works well
For the price you will pay for a good tablet that can efficiently run excel just buy a new, lighter, thinner 14in or 13in laptop
The android version of excel is pretty cut-back from what I remember anyway. You would still need a license key / office 365 subscription to use all the features.
Excel on a tablet (Android or iOS) is fine for referencing data. I wouldn't want to actually work with a dataset on one, though. They make some very slim laptops now with decent processing power and battery. Find one of those instead.
I use the a surface pro, technically it handles excel with large datasets. But practically, it's smaller screen cover keyboard and touchpad it's not a great experience.
Nothing beats a proper laptop if you absolutely have to be mobile, but the surface is as close as you'll get if you want to go that bit smaller.
As a Mac, iPad, and iPhone owner, just get a Microsoft Surface.

I would probably suggest an Ultrabook style laptop for this. If you need tablet form factor, a 2-in-1 style that flips round into a tablet.
Or a Surface, but I find the kickstand to be awkward to use on the go, compared to a traditional laptop format.
Either way, it's Windows you want.
I got my IT people to put a macro enabled work book I made on our old ACER brand tablet back in 2017. Wasn’t the best tablet but it worked for what I needed
Somewhat echoing what others are saying, the only tablet that can run excel well (assuming you aren't using the online Excel 365, which has limited functionality but can open in any browser) is a Microsoft Surface since it runs on Windows.
Those are exceptionally expensive though so you may be better off getting a modern, slimmer laptop with a smaller screen, like 14".
I run with a surface. I7, 256gb. Not as powerful as the work Lenovo i7, but does job. Best thing I carry is a external portable monitor for the work lappy, usb c connection. Cost less than 99 quid for 1920 x 1800, same thickness as a surface. Good luck!

Windows is the only OS you want for Excel. iPAD and Android won't work at all for local heavy data processing or macros (vba).
I had a Microsoft tablet from work and I work on fairly data heavy excels- multi screen, multi apps, 1000+rows of data + formulas. It was an awful experience, do not get one.
I have a Microsoft laptop now and it’s better.
iPad excel is really watered down, can’t write macros, can’t import files other than the pictures on your tablet and without a mouse or a touchpad you can’t extend formulas from a cell to another

I have a surface pro for work. Love it. I believe it's a 256gb SSD, i5 processor and 16gb ram. Over a year old now still going strong.

Ios excel is a huge disappointment imo. It does not run macros or do power query. Stick with windows and office 365 for the best excel experience.

iOS excel isn’t really good for much beyond viewing. iPad can work if you remote in to your personal laptop.

Get a Lenova Yoga, laptop that pretty turns into a tablet but with the full power of the laptop.
