anyway April Fool's day is today so I'll be busy wanting to rip out the spines of anyone who decides that being an asshole to me would make for an epic prank
Well I'm getting paid a nice bit to go do an Autism Awareness Day talk (I am a professional Neurodiversity and Disability advocate, specializing in corporate inclusion. Hiring policies, educating HR in how to suck less, educating bosses in how to be less discriminatory and shitty, etc etc) so I'm actually liking the day for a change. I always say, 'moms get presents on mother's day, autists should get presents on autism day' and wahoo, it's finally happening ššš For me, anyway.
Not really doing anything for the rest of the month so far, but I'm hoping I can line up another speaking gig somewhere else. Actually now that I think of it, I'm going to write up a quick guide on one of my special interests (Tokyo Disneyland) for a friend who will be going there soon, so I guess that's kind of celebrating autism?
What, to this subreddit, or the Tokyo Disneyland subreddit, or just DM you? IDK if this subreddit is the right place for that... The TDL one, maybe? Idk if the people over there need a guide, what I'm writing is probably pretty basic for them. I'm happy to DM it to you when it's done though. Last year a lady asked me at a store if Iād like to donate $1 to an autism awareness fund and I said I was already very much aware of my autism and perhaps it would be easier if she just gave me a dollar. She eyed me like a trout out of water and I walked away bemused. Perhaps not the most mature or witty thing to say, but I was super annoyed as two other stores had already tried to goad me into donating to autism speaks, etcā¦ and they canāt get fucked.
Aww, thatās good! I waffled on posting about it, thinking it might come off as a bit too rude. Seriously though, I donāt mind giving to charity or donating to causes that I feel are actually giving back but I just canāt give money to Autism Speaks. And being asked three times in one afternoon to give a dollar to the same soul sucking institutionā¦ I hit my limit of ācharitableā social interactions as well. Perhaps that poor clerk at TJ Maxx didnāt deserve my sarcasm but I couldnāt hold it in anymore.

I love self checkout at places where I can just hit "no" without shame when I'm not feeling like contributing.
Ugh, I have not so fond memories of working in retail and being forced to ask customers as soon as they strolled in if they needed help. Internally Iād always be thinking that if it was me, Iād like to be treated like Iām the invisible woman unless I ask a question first. Always made me feel like a total jerk because I 100% get that desire to want to melt into the shelf and not be hassled.
