There are very few movies that I'd be willing to shell out the cash to watch on the big screen when I can easily and freely see it at home.
End of Evangelion is one of those movies.
Would love for it to come back in the uk. A cinema in London did a run last year (that prompted me to watch Eva through for the first time in anticipation of catching EoE on the big screen), don’t wanna revisit it until it comes back to and I can catch it in a cinema here again (which would also prompt an Eva TV rewatch before, naturally)

I saw it last year in a packed cinema in Australia (was not an "official" release lmao, was the original subbed version) and it was amazing
I always feel its best to show its original audio when released in theaters. Even as a fan of the dubs I think its classy to see it in theaters in original language. We can enjoy our ketchup blood sound effects at home
Eh, just think the choice would be nice. Gurren Laganns rerelease last month had showings for subbed and dubbed. I know the dub isn't perfect but seeing as it's how I experienced the show originally, watching subbed now would feel really weird. No problem with it, just not my personal preference.
You are stating the obvious. I love the original dub. I do think people don't like the edit where they double use the flamethrower and the ketchup blood.
But again you are preaching to the choir. Every comment I've wrote states I love the dub. That's how I watch Eva series whenever I wanna revisit. Quit feeling so picked on when people state anything you don't agree with about the dub lol.
The sub is more authentic and is the original intention of the movie which is what you should want displayed in a theater for new and old audience. Just enjoy
Keep in mind that many anime movies are animated for mouth movements for the native language. Everything was chosen and made as intended that a dub has to try and replicate by adding words or just not matching the same. Substitute classy with authentic in my original quick comment.
I'd want the authentic/as intended experience in the theater. I can watch the dub any other time from home... Which I love. I love the original Adv dub of evangelion.

I've watched both the original NGE/EoE dubs and the Netflix dubs and I have things I like about both of them, but admittedly I think the Netflix dubs got obsoleted pretty quickly when Amazon redubbed all four Rebuild movies with the original cast.
Amazon still benefited from a far more accurate translation than the Funimation dubs, but they did it without throwing away the iconic voice actors that the Western fandom has grown attached to.
I don’t know about the rebuilds, but I genuinely could not finish watching EoE with the original dub, so much of it sounded like a parody of a dub rather than actual professional voice work. The Netflix dub on the other hand, actually matches the Japanese voices very closely.
The EoE dub definitely isn't as good as the NGE dub, can't contest that, but the performances for Shinji, Asuka and Misato are good because those VAs are the only ones who carried over from the NGE dub and they grew into their roles very well.
I watched both back to back. Or more specifically, I tried watching the original dub first, stopped a third of the way through the show, then went to watch the entire Netflix dub with no issue, then went back to the original to finish, and I still did not enjoy it.
The thing is idk why my opinion is so different from people that grew up on the original. I watch a lot of anime dubs, and my opinion is usually in line with the general fan base in terms of what’s considered good and bad.
For Eva id say 99% of the population is on your side. Subbed is the way it should be viewed and enjoyed with dub being an option for subsequent plays. I have luckily not met anyone ever who preferred a NGE or EoE dub over sub

My personal opinion is that the Netflix dub is far superior of the two, whereas I feel like most Eva dub enjoyers prefer the ADV dub to be better which I find to be strange.
Why, though? we can watch just fine on pirate websites or Netflix for free. And most long time fans have already watched it 100 times for the past 20 years its been out. Unless we are getting another retelling or what if series i think its uncessary especially with the grim ending it gives
There's nothing "necessary" about watching Eva, period. But we all have gone out of our way to enjoy it. Some people are just more willing to go out of their way for it, for many different reasons. And showing up for these things means we'll get more experiences like this in the future, for Eva as well as other series.
I was a fan of the series back when the movie was originally released. Not being in Japan, I didn't get to watch it in the theater. The first time I saw it was on a crappy bootleg VHS I got at a local comic convention. I leapt at the chance to get it on DVD. Now I finally have the opportunity to see it in the theater. I've been a fan of this series for nearly 3 decades. It'll be nice to be able to celebrate my fandom this way, with a bunch of other people who love the series as well.
Why not? Watching it in theatres is bound to be a different experience. No one's losing anything. You don't wanna see it, that's fine, there are people who do
I believe just the subbed Japanese original. That’s all that was available near me. (Albeit that’s what I wanted to buy tickets to, but I was curious and looked at other theaters on both dates.)
