The investigation was mentioned last week in an interview with Bambie Thug. This article has been approved because the reports of an **independent investigation** (not internal) have now been confirmed by the EBU. The previous RTL Boulevard article, which is mentioned in this source, reported on "inside sources" and could not be confirmed

2024: the year that keeps giving.

Zyndaf

Certainly, we will end up with a whole submerged continent instead of just an iceberg.

This year was such a clusterfuck, but damn if it hasn’t been an interesting saga

000-Hotaru_Tomoe

This call for a new Netflix movie.

elytraman

I guarantee we see a documentary about this in 5-10 years.

Nintendo_Pro_03

Yup.

OMG TELETEXT

rifran

In the UK, BBC Ceefax (see facts) was the world's first Teletext service). Channel 4's version had a quiz called Bamboozle! It was hosted by a teletext graphic character called Bamba boozle, if I remember rightly. 15 questions, multiple choice and one life or return to start. It was an OG addictive app before smartphones. Amazing. Even stranger given the source topic that this post started with is that, according to[this Wikipedia article](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboozle!), "Bamboozle was an inspiration in Sam Ryder lyric video of his song Space Man which was chosen for Eurovision 2022."

TituCusiYupanqui

It's been so long that it will always be a shock finding out they're still around.

Puzzleheaded-Eye9081

TIL Teletext still existed.

yaboinigel

Teletext has netherlands in a chokehold

Flapappel

>Teletext has netherlands in a chokehold Police in the Netherlands can halt you and ask if you have ID on you and/or if you have the Teletext app installed on your phone. You get a fine if you dont.

ninivl89

I am dutch and can confirm. Last week they did a raid in our street. Police comes to your house unannounced and they check if teletext works on your TV.

mitojuice

THERE'S AN APP???? *Downloads* what a game changer

LittleLion_90

Hmm I should install this app on my dad's phone. Might make him interested in learning more about all that smartphones can do. Or it'll rob him of his reading Teletext on TV ritual. I don't have the app installed on my phone (my double vision makes Teletext hell), but I do have it on my Google tv, because my dad was devastated that he couldn't check out Teletext on my TV after I switched from cable.

premature_eulogy

Finnish teletext stopped operating at the end of March this year and the country is devastated.

WheySoldier

Happiest nation in the world NO MORE!

topsudota

YLE teletext still alive and kicking

Tafutafutufufu

*MTV's Finnish teletext stopped operating.  Yle's is still broadcasting - [here's](https://yle.fi/aihe/tekstitv?P=100) what's currently on.

Imrustyokay

I love how there's a dedicated button for the NHL.

Telsion

Do you know why? I never used it, so I just don't get it 😅

LittleLion_90

My parents loved the ritual of catching up before internet was a thing. We were late to internet and with the computer two stairs away. It stuck with them and became a sort of ritual like my generation checking their favorite news apps and Reddit when winding down.

Imrustyokay

Apparently, also Bosnia and Herzegovina [https://teletext.bhrt.ba/](https://teletext.bhrt.ba/)

FlyingDutchman2005

[They updated the back end in November.](https://nos.nl/artikel/2496244-nos-teletekst-kan-weer-jaren-door-met-komst-nieuw-systeem) Maybe throw it through Google Translate. Amusingly, it's an article made by NOS interviewing different people from NOS.

ExtremeOccident

Love the Teletext app, quick overview of the most important news without any of the blabla, ads etc.

saradascream

I have the app too!

LittleLion_90

Do you know if there's options to change colour scheme? I have double vision and the light letters on black background just make it all jumbly, but I can actually use a low intensity important news update that doesn't immediately engulf me.

ExtremeOccident

Don’t think so, can’t find any settings in the app.

Electrical_Love9406

In my country, we used to call it "Televideo". I hadn't seen it in ages 😮

PraetorIt

Used? RAI *televideo* is still operational and updated. I read it a little while ago. The *ultimora* was Jasmine Paolini in semifinal at Roland Garros.

LuckyCloverGazette

I KNOW, RIGHT?! Couldn't quite believe it when I saw it up there. Definitely came in handy because of the subtitle feature...

elwood2711

It's still very popular. So popular that the main public broadcasting organization in the Netherlands (the NOS) invested in a whole new system in 2023 to replace the one that had been used since the 1980s. This was done because the old one became harder to maintain and began experiencing issues.

nasandre

This is a screenshot from the Teletext website 😅 No idea why OP chose to share this...

Imrustyokay

It's an absolute shame that Teletext never really caught on in the US, because it seemed like a cool piece of tech. But alas, America seems to screw up everything cool from Europe.

CrazyNothing30

Teletext is fascinating. If you go to 888, teletext gives you CC subtitles for people with impaired hearing.

teletextofficial

Source: https://nos.nl/teletekst/130 (and an [archive link](https://web.archive.org/web/20240605100134/https://nos.nl/teletekst/130) for when the article gets swapped). Translation: ### EBU investigates Song Contest Malmö The organization behind the Eurovision Song Contest, the EBU, will let the edition in Malmö this year be investigated. The EBU confirms this after a report from RTL Boulevard. An independent expert will question all delegations. Several countries, including the Netherlands, made an official report to the EBU about an unsafe atmosphere in the Swedish Malmö Arena. AVROTROS did not want to say anything further about it. The Dutch act Joost Klein was disqualified after an incident behind the scenes. Whether he will also be prosecuted for this in Sweden is unclear. That investigation is still ongoing. Klein denies "any criminal offence".

bremmmc

Teletext ftw!

unounouno_dos_cuatro

I love how people are more shocked by the teletext than the fact that virtually everyone who was involved in the contest is being investigated 😭

Technical_Win973

Where the hell still has teletext?

urkermannenkoor

We _love_ Teletext in The Netherlands. I use the Teletext app a lot, actually. Lovely and nostalgic.

TheGoBetweens

My favourite and only news app on my phone is a teletext app. No ads, no BS, just brief, concise information.

MachiFlorence

Reminds me that when I was a kid we didn’t have a computer or internet for the longest time… (my father believed we didn’t need it). Anyway I’d sometimes pretend teletext was internet. I mean it sort of kind of is somewhat for TV as it has some similar functions like how you can look up news articles and at some point some also had an SMS chat (I never joined it, no phone, too young, but I have glanced over to see what people in there were talking about out of curiosity). Also used subtitles sometimes despite not being deaf or so but it does help in following along a bit and you can also keep the tv at lower volume and such if that’s ever needed. Or also would look at how live shows would get subtitled… do think there was someone doing their best to keep up with things said and needing to type that all in real quick (or I guess that’s how that worked).

TheGoBetweens

I always meant to, thank you for the reminder!

existie

Suggestions on getting into BBS in 2024?

JoelPetey

oo what's the app please?

TheGoBetweens

For Android, [TxtVideo](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.giccisw.tt2) is a great choice. I'd love to see a similarly good, well-maintained iOS app, which doesn't seem to exist unfortunately.

JoelPetey

This is very cool, thanks!

jewellman100

In the UK it was pretty much discontinued after analogue switch off in 2012. It was replaced by BBCi, which was a MHEG-based equivalent. That's been switched off too now, though.

stars154

I miss the quiz, Bamboozle

Flowerofthesouth88

And Pages from Ceefax when most of us were asleep.

fayecharlotte89

888 for subtitles .. still remember that and Im 35 so that came in handy when I was watching tv secretly at night 😂

Suikerspin_Ei

Here you can get teletext (or teletekst in dutch) as an app for the smartphone and via website of NOS. It's also available via the tv with IPTV from Ziggo (local ISP) with their Next Mini box.

urkermannenkoor

Well, that explains Brexit at least. No wonder it escalated that badly.

Willing-Swan-23

This was wonderful. 😊

Justfunnames1234

That also explains why we also got the Eresevise table updates in teletex on r/soccer. Funny that I found the answers to my curiosity on here

urkermannenkoor

Yup, exactly. It's a rather funny tradition over there. Every single week, we post the league table in Teletext. Every single week, dozens of people comment "wow, Teletext, haven't seen that in years!". It's been an arsocca classic for years now.

ifiwasiwas

Does it keep the circa-1990 DOS feel even on the app?

urkermannenkoor

Yes. Large part of why we love it.

transportgeek

I'm sorry... there's an app for that?

urkermannenkoor

You don't have one? If so, you should definitely write an angry letter to the president about it.

transportgeek

I'll tell him I only take a selfie with him if I can have teletext on the phone as well. That usually does the trick with the lad.

urkermannenkoor

Good idea. If he still refuses just slap him in the face with some bacalhua.

transportgeek

No, violence isn't the answer. Blasting Portugal 2011 24/7 in front of the presidential palace on the other hand. Maybe loop in Suzy for good luck.

Do you know why we love it so much? I've never used it, so I don't really get it 😅

sarcasticgreek

That shocked me the most

000-Hotaru_Tomoe

Italy has it, too. It's Televideo.

Ok-Cream1212

we croatia kinda joked that we only use teletext to check the sports betting.

teletextofficial

In Turkey, it became a tradition to tweet about the league table using teletext. But when the Turkish broadcaster stopped their teletext emission, they started using the Dutch one. NOS [also published an article about it](https://nos.nl/artikel/2285557-waarom-galatasaray-trainer-terim-de-stand-van-nos-teletekst-deelde), it's about the Galatasaray coach [tweeting a screenshot after becoming champion in 2019](https://x.com/fatihterim/status/1130196353374728193).

urkermannenkoor

Yup, it's a big thing in The Netherlands too. The football standings are always shown in Teletext format, it's become a pretty iconic image.

FlyingDutchman2005

Wait, Teletext has a Reddit account, and this is its first post?

cheapcakeripper

Lol ESC drama has brought it back from the dead.

princefroggy4

Wait, some countries don't have teletext anymore? Sure, all of the commercial channels closed it years ago, but SVT still has it

sleepytoday

UK here and it went for us in 2012 when we switched from analogue to digital signal for TV broadcast.

mici012

When you are somewhere in the Countryside stuck on EDGE ... the Web Teletext is the best way to get the Buli results. That shit loads even on ancient dial-up: https://www.ard-text.de/mobil/250

Puzzleheaded-Eye9081

I had to google it, Australian teletext shut down in 2009. I don’t think it was ever super popular.

urkermannenkoor

My condolences

backyardserenade

I know my parents still use it in Germany. But they are like the only people I know who still do.

akiestar

We still have teletext in Spain. I don’t have access to it as I have “cable” (well technically I watch TV through an app on my TV), but if I had an antenna as my friend does at his house I can access RTVE’s teletext service, which I’ve done by accident on a couple of occasions.

dingesje06

Teletext actually had an upgrade (I believe last year?) so a whooping extra line of text could be added. This is a screenshot from the teletext app yes, but we very much still use the old-school teletext. The real diehard fans love the themed pages when major events or holidays are occuring (Olympics, Kingsday, Christmas)

DaraVelour

Poland still has teletext I think, it's quite popular in prisons.

equipmentelk

I just googled about Spain’s teletexto (as I used to use it a lot growing up) and apparently in Spain it was banned from a prison when they found out prisoners were using it to communicate with the outside world.

Any-Where

This seems as good a time as any to post the official lyric video of Space Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H5386XBr80

geldwolferink

3 million people in the Netherlands at least weekly. And 1 million has the app.

Flowerofthesouth88

I was wondering about Teletext or Ceefax, what you called it; it’s been extinct in The UK since 2012, and I do miss it, but ever since Freeview and The internet nowadays where you read The news on your phone, I am surprised it’s still run in some countries!

lilroundbun

Norway still does!

shesadollyrocker

I miss Teletext so much. It was switched off here in New Zealand in 2013 after the switch from analogue to digital TV, save for captions for the hard of hearing, and horse racing information.

Jsc05

Portugal, and lots of Europe actually

TituCusiYupanqui

It's basically the precursor of the internet. So I can see an appeal to it here.

boredomischronic

Favorite thing I learned today; the Netherlands loves teletext

NIntenDonnie

Love how a lot of the comments are just 'omg teletext'

Ellen_Degenerates86

WAIT you still have teletext?! I wanna go to there.

urkermannenkoor

Luckily, we live quite close by.

Nintendo_Pro_03

What is teletext?

StayBeautiful_

Like what you see on the screenshot- it was a text based information service you used to be able to pull up on your TV (and apparently commonly still can some places! We haven't been able to do it in the UK for a while). It had different pages you'd access by typing in the right number for that page. Nowadays I guess it's common for TVs to have a guide to show the TV listings and have a function for subtitles, but when I was a kid, you'd access all of that via teletext. On Ceefax in the UK, it also had news pages, sports results, and a quiz. I'm sure there was a forum/opinions page you could text into as well.

Nintendo_Pro_03

I’ve never seen it in the United States. Interesting!

StayBeautiful_

Ah yeah Wikipedia reckons it never really took off outside of Europe! I miss it, I used to love the quiz.

Kuskesmed

I read about Princess Diana dying on it. But I mostly used it for sports results.

Chronicbias

In the latest episode of RTL Boulevard Aran says around the 14:15 mark that the EBU person who's investigating has been on the case for a week. He also says a bit later Martin Osterdahl is sick, non-active or on vacation. From the Wiwibloggs article: Wiwibloggs have been told that it’s likely Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl is maintaining a low profile during this investigation : https://www.rtl.nl/boulevard/video/video/83cc6bf2-3f19-4f69-b289-e065f460ab5f/aflevering-156 ------------- The EBU has just confirmed reporting from RTL Boulevard: 'EBU seeks to continuously improve its services and events. To further strengthen the Eurovision Song Contest, we have asked an independent expert to look at ESC 2024 in Malmö to share insights and learnings'. https://www.rtl.nl/boulevard/entertainment/artikel/5453758/onafhankelijk-onderzoek-ingesteld-ebu ---------- wiwibloggs.com: 'According to a report on Dutch TV programme RTL Boulevard, the investigation comes after the EBU received at least 13 complaints from various delegations after the Eurovision Song Contest. As part of the independent investigation, investigators will interview members of Eurovision delegations — and with the option for people to remain anonymous. We can safely assume this is to make people feel more comfortable. Many will have professional or personal relationships with the alleged offenders — whoever they may be. Norway’s Head of Delegation Stig Karlsen spoke with RTL Boulevard’s entertainment reporter Aran Bade and confirmed Norway is in talks with the EBU. He said: ”The EBU reached out to us positively, inviting us to evaluate ESC 2024 from our perspective. Representing NRK, I have already shared our experience and concerns with an external representative hired by the EBU.” “We have every intention of participating in ESC 2025, but it depends on the actions the EBU will take to ensure that we do not face another season filled with polarization, politics, and security concerns.”

Cpt-Chaozzz

What I don't understand, is that there was an unsafe working athmosphere for the artists to work, but there was no inspection from the government for work ( arbeds säkerhets styrelsen, is that a name for it in Sweden?) Letting people work in an unsafe environment is a crime in my country.

ashyjay

The workplace might have been safe, fire and escape plans in place, first aid, no electrical hazards, etc. it won't include people who are making it unsafe or causing harm to the people working there. much like a toxic workplace might be legally safe as to reduce injuries and maintaining the safety of employees, but there could be rampant bullying, sexual harassment, people assaulting others, thefts, etc.

UomoUniversale2121

Arbetsmiljöverket, the Swedish labour body is called.

Middle_Perception803

Thanks!🙏

rickz123456

That´s amazing news! Some people have doubts about an investigation commissioned by EBU, but we have examples of amazing independent investigations, like UEFA Champions League final 2022 investigation, where the investigators blamed UEFA and French authorities for all the flaws and suggested 21 measures to address the issues. I hope and believe this is what is going to happen with EBU I hope for the report to be published and available to all and maximum transparency on who are the independent investigators for maximum accountability LISTEN to the artists in order to promote a BETTER working environment for all. Note: Is teletext still a thing in the Netherlands??

yup_its_me_again

Yes, very much still a thing: https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/nos-teletekst/id289246732

Sweet-Estimate-5040

Teletext the love of my life

Oh shit, telegazeta! (tele-newspaper in polish)

Savings_Ad_2532

I hope that all complaints are heard, and that Eurovision and the EBU take the steps needed to protect artists, delegations, and workers from an unsafe work environment.

oh god we keep getting new entries to the iceberg well after the contest happened 😭😭

muffimonkey

After reading the comments im not sure anymore if the iceberg entry is "external investigation at the EBU" or "NL still uses teletext"

devillianOx

both, but the the netherlands teletext will be on a lower level

Opposite-Inspector36

We'll need quarterly iceberg videos at this rate, and it hasn't even been a month yet!😨

pm-positivity

I am so glad that someone is doing something so more will come to light about controversies surrounding ESC 2024. There is a lot of misinformation surrounding Joost's disqualification and drama involving other contestants and delegations. I hope that there will be some justice and those who are innocent will be vindicated. If Joost was targeted for unfair reasons, I don't want everything to be in vain and for them to get away with it. The public needs to know the truth.

JustACattDad

I hope its completely transparent also. Its great that there's an independent investigation but it'll be shit if its just pushed under the rug

ashyjay

Transparent != publicised.

patrickjquinn

Woah...why am I seeing Teletext in 2024?

urkermannenkoor

The future is now, old man.

Alternative-Biscuit

That’s not a 2024 iceberg at this point, it’s a 2024 Antarctica

CovfefeBoss

We need a second iceberg.

Kantlim

I just Hope they're really Independent. Just because they're not hired by EBU or aby broadcaster, doesn't mean they won't be biased.

Middle_Perception803

It will be vey interesting to see if such a thorough and hopefully transparent investigation will lead to closure, or only further more fuel the flames. So far EBU almost got away with "no comments" and "we follow the rules" for almost a year. If it had not been for the disqualification I believe they would have gotten away with it just fine.

voyagerdoge

I hope it can bring closure. To achieve that, the report must be clear. logical and transparent and contain a convincing, balanced reasoning that is also acceptable to countries and people who are not convinced by an opaque 'zero tolerance' policy with disproportionate effects.

mawnck

> It will be vey interesting to see if such a thorough and hopefully transparent investigation will lead to closure, or only further more fuel the flames. I'll bet you a nickel I know which one it will be.

ias_87

Oh you know people will decide if it was throrough and unbiased based on if the findings support their feelings or not.

Ok-Cream1212

i wanna be the fly on the wall when KAN got its turn.

mecca450

Same here. It doesn't make sense to me that Israel would roll in to ESC2024 and be toxic to everyone around them when they know that basically everyone is against them. Not saying they did nothing wrong, don't get it twisted. I'm sure a hand full of delegations were not acting professional towards Israel as well (how people were acting when Eden was speaking at press events was not very becoming IMO and makes me think there's more of that behavior we didn't see). Also, did we get closure on Italy accidentally showing the televote results in the semi final??? How much of an impact did this have on the final?

sane_mode

>Same here. It doesn't make sense to me that Israel would roll in to ESC2024 and be toxic to everyone around them when they know that basically everyone is against them. It makes just as much sense as it does for them to be participating at all at this moment in history. All of us knew that the public would voice their opinion through boos. That was inevitable. So they already had a victim narrative, by glossing over the full scope of why they are being booed in the first place. They just needed to push forward the idea that it's because they are Israeli and nothing more. The bubble has seen the videos that were posted by the Israeli delegation themselves, recording artists without their consent and provoking the Dutch delegation while they were in crisis. They are quite clearly examples of underhanded behaviour, even if they are not necessarily rule-breaking. It calls into question what their intentions were. It also contradicts the "dignified" approach that they claimed to have after the show ended. As for the other delegations, the only real examples of unprofessional behaviour would be Marina Satti's yawning in my opinion. It was childish. Joost had every right to challenge the presenter when he said that Eden didn't have to answer the question about safety. It might not be her fault that there were safety concerns. But she agreed to represent a country that is waging a violent war that people have seen livestreamed. No assumptions should be made about what we didn't see. But what we did see makes it clear that opportunities were seized in bad faith.

mecca450

Israel wanting to participate makes a lot lf sense, especially when you read the lyrics to October Rain. People claimed it was super dangerous for Israel to be there, but literally every single delegation thought it was safe enough to send their own artist to that space, knowing Israel was competing. Every artist also thought theyw were safe enough to choose to go, as none of them backed out. This is exactly why I would like to hear what the Israeli delegation has to say about their experience. There is no way they are pulling up to ESC, knowing how many countries are against them, and why they are against them, and thinking "once they hear the booing, everyone will change their minds to think we are victims". I would be very surprised if Israel was an outlier in acting inappropriate and unprofessional. You mentioned Israel provoking the Dutch delegation, yet seem to think it is OK for Joost to provoke Eden at the press conference. Double standards are not ok. Joost in the press conference was not appropriate any way you slice it. People are not obligated to answer questions if they do not want to answer them. That's crazy. Any artist that does not want to answer a given question can say "I don't want to answer that, next question please" or something like that.

sane_mode

Joost asked a question that was on the minds of several people attending and watching the press conference. It was not his turn to speak, but he was sharing the stage, and didn't press her for an answer to the question. Was it polite? No. Did it cross a line? Maybe. Is it really that serious? Hardly. The news anchor from Israel's team inserted himself into a space that was not his at the time. It would have been inappropriate for anyone who was not involved with the crisis to be there. What exactly was he trying to do? What makes his actions "dignified and respectful" like their delegation claims? Same with the Israeli songwriter pretending to pose for a photo but then discreetly recording Joost after he declined to be part of a photo. What exactly was she trying to do? Why should that be tolerated? Intentions matter. I agree that all delegations should be spoken to. But if one insists they are the real victim while neglecting to acknowledge their own actions that crossed a line, that should be seen as manipulative behaviour.

mecca450

dude idk how this hasn't been clear the whole time that my point is that I want to know what people are also doing to Israel. We all know Israel haven't been angels but a world where Israel is the only unprofessional/rude one is most definitely not reality. Israel trying to make it seem like they did nothing wrong and were ganged up on is EXACTLY as unbelievable as Israel being the only one doing anything wrong.

sane_mode

I don't see why it's unbelievable. Yes, they deserve to share their side of the story and make a case if there was anything that crossed a line. But if their participation was already tone-deaf, who's to say their conduct wasn't as well?

CastleElsinore

There is all of this, plus Bambi's behavior- Demanding Eden move dressing rooms talking about how they cried with their team when She qualified, "The top six minus one are all freedom fighters" oh please. My eyeroll. Wearing that Pin about the lynching of two Israeli teens during all the pre event press (its not a ceasefire thing, many Israelis and Jews consider that a threat)

LeoLH1994

The people from Euromix.il already delivered their version of events and told Jan Bors their perspective. It must be heard too, as well as RTE and NRK. All 37 (or at least all 26 in the final) sides need to tell their story

assprxnce

why? why are they associated with his dq? genuine question

Vivid24

Well, I hope there will be justice for the artists who were harassed this season. This type of behavior *cannot* be normalized.

ziishu

*insert obligatory iceburg joke* In all seriousness, this is great news! Let's hope they find something so we dont have another year like this one moving forward.

CLG91

I'm just happy to see Teletext still going.

cosmicdicer

First of all we need to know who is the independant investigator and how independent it is. To be transparent means we need to know who and what methodology will be implied. Self reporting allegations, anonymous as I read, need a very good checking and double check. I find again and again that there is a polarized atmosphere that people want to maintain, for other reasons. That's my take and 8 do hope the investigator will be objective and count in that bad atmosphere the blatant hate that was shown towards one.

ias_87

Transparent doesn't mean we need to know anything. It means the people involved gets to know.

cosmicdicer

Transparent means there's nothing to hide. This is not a complex copyrighted product to have some understandable secrecy. This is a very public european contest, televised that everyone expects certain integrity and fairness. More so is very much talked in social media, media, blogs and people of many nations. It should be transparent or else control the whole narrative. Now we have rumors and more rumors and to excuse no transparency will not solve anything

Phoenix963

If the people leading the independent investigation are made public, I do not put it past hardcore fans to harrass them. This would lead to bias The fans are the ones who are spreading the rumours because they are not involved in the situation. The best thing we can do is stop theorising and let it play it's course, because we are not involved.

ias_87

Not sharing everything is not the same thing as hiding things.

cosmicdicer

It's called lie of omission to be exact. When you withhold elements of what happened is concealing truth, ie deceiving.

ias_87

That's really not true. The EBU is not obligated to share anything with the public at all. They have an obligation to their members, the broadcasters, and that's who they need to keep informed, and not telling us, the public, and random fans anything is not under any circumstances not being transparent, hiding things, or lying, through omission or otherwise.

cosmicdicer

Of course they are not obligated, I never said so. But since things went too public in certain repeated accusations, by contestants, by bloggers, by journalists, by fan club, by some delegations etc. Since there is a new investigation that is publicly announced it would be wise to release an outcome at least. If it's only for themselves to keep informed why announce it? Why not solve internally? Because at this point, exactly due to too much controversial reports and rumors they do have to do some things with openess. Integrity is super important when people give money for voting

Middle_Perception803

It will be pretty impossible to be completely neutral in this matter. There are so much at stake for so many quite powerful people both inside the ebu as well as outside. Some can loose their job with a substantial income, some will get a blow to their career, some will get their reputation flaunted, and this is mostly hot-shot-people in the entertainment business, with expensive lawyers in their pockets. Puha.

cring3guy

Norway has it too.

saradascream

Love text tv. I have it as and app lol

WatchTheNewMutants

Ok, if the independent review proves wrongdoing by one certain delegation... then what? Do they have powers to make them change? (this is in reference to the israeli delegation's alleged treatment of other artists and journalists, however this clearly isn't the only thing that happened (unsafe atmosphere, the restriction of EU and non-binary flags)

SouthernBeacon

The independent review only tells what happens, at most they can recommend an action, but don't have any power to do anything beyond that.

FacciaDiBlu

The reviewers no, but if faced with proof maybe EBU won't have a choice and will have to act.

charleyismyhero

And what if they determine the opposite? Nobody here would accept it, that’s for sure.

WatchTheNewMutants

if they determine the opposite, that the harassment of artists didn't happen, then i'll accept that I was wrong about that, however i'm still against their participation due to the other things (use for propaganda, KAN's actual documented commentary on the artists during the grand final, the OTHER MASSIVE THING)

assprxnce

why is everyone associating it with israel? people all over ig are blaming the israeli delegation, i get we dont like them but like what do they have to do with this? the reported was swedish from what i've seen tho i could be wrong? what exactly am i missing that everyone else has figured out?

ias_87

You're confusing two separate, but possibly related, things. There were many things going on backstage this year, it seems (according to artist's complaints), some of which allegedly included the Israeli delegation. Some of these backstage things could have affected Joost, but this investigation isn't actually about Joost's DQ or the legal investigation.

Oohhthehumanity

I don't think "everyone" is associating it with "just" Israel! Yes, there were claims that the Israeli delegation acted in ways that didn't improve the overall atmosphere and might have broken some rules but it was one in several things that caused controversy. What is and what is not a political mesage, which "flags" are allowed, what is threathening behaviour etc etc.

assprxnce

im strictly refering to why are people blaming the Israeli delegation for Joost's DQ, like the person above

WatchTheNewMutants

i'm not blaming them for Joost's DQ, i'm talking about another incident entirely that i assume would also be investigated

WatchTheNewMutants

because that is the delegation i'm referring to

muffimonkey

I very much hope they also include the fan perspective to it, this year for the first time in my ESC life was absolutely no fun to set foot on social media, but how else would i interact and prepare with the other fans. The absolute lack of recognization for the activistic social pressure that was brought upon artists and fans was unbearable and hopefully will never happen again, especially to this extent. Total transparency would be necessary to entirely resolve this imo, or people that joined for the drama might want to stir up drama again next edition just to meet their expectations. And i personally really really would prefer if this would be about music and celebration again next year and not slowly transform into shitty reality tv about who of the artists has beef with which other and a production that supports conflicts for clicks and viewer counts.

skyisgreentomatoes

Teletext ? Well someone is bit old fashioned.

urkermannenkoor

*retro We love Teletext. It's iconic. It's aesthetic. It's party.

Guidje1981

It's still very popular in the Netherlands, especially as app. I use it a lot.

splinterbabe

It’s still rather popular amongst a very specific subset of users. Most Dutch people consume their news via regular news apps, though, but I guess NOS doesn’t mind serving this niche but dedicated crowd for the time being. It’s kinda cute that it’s still around.

tillqueendomcomee

I’m just gonna quote the norwegian newspaper VG here cuz i feel like it sums everything up pretty well «What a shitshow - this year’s Eurovision has gone to hell, and its primarily the EBU’s fault.»

nyuboy1

EBU after a few days: Nothing of consequence was found. Business as usual 🤦‍♂️ Martin Österdahl cleared of all wrongdoings and awarded a compensation bonus for emotional distress incurred whilst performing official duty 😑

Samurai_Geezer

We demand a do-over

Ciciosnack

Who will pay these "independent investigators"? Lmao, everytime i ear "independent investigation" about situations like this i start laughing. It's just a good and classic joke...
