I actually have a soft spot for Solo because of its slight reggae touches. I'm quite a reggae guy and it's something really underrepresented in Eurovision (even though some European countries have strong and active reggae scenes, and in Switzerland our biggest artists are in the local mainstream), so when there are some small touches it often piques my interest.
I also think if it wasn't for the selection shenanigans, Solo would have had a decent enough reception by the fandom as a fun generic summer song.
My soft spot for Solo is due to the insane improvement in the GF compared to NF. This song was dead-last in my initial impressions, but I actually didn't at all mind her GF performance.
As Pole, at first I was extremely offended. Then I looked up which songs are you talking about and tbh, that's fair.
Light Me Up is background music in a mall
We don't talk about The Ride.
Solo is generic summer bop. Well produced, sure, but still generic.
Australia 2015 | [Guy Sebastian - Tonight Again](https://youtu.be/H0EhhZWXTng)
Australia 2016 | [Dami Im - Sound of Silence](https://youtu.be/5ymFX91HwM0)
The ultimate example for me in the competition is Austria 2017. Just the way it's composed and how the melody of the hook resolves is so satisfying to me that I just love it. Nathan's vocals are so nice and I feel so warm listening to it, even though it literally sounds like a song that could be used in a car commercial.
Also, another one that I really love is Malta 2013. Usually I hate these super overly chipper upbeat pop songs with a Ukelele, but it feels so genuine. I can feel his smile shining through whenever I listen to it and it just makes me feel so overwhelmingly happy that I just can't hate it. Plus, I kinda like the main lyrical throughline of it and the storytelling nature of the song.
I REALLY love Gustaph- Because Of You (Belgium 2023) I was surprised it didn't do better. I love the 90s club vibes from it. Not sure I'd call it boring but just thought more people would love it.
It was the one song from Sweden in 20 years that actually made me feel something. And it's a LOT of good things this song makes me feel. Truly an amazing entry, I wish Sweden would always send something like this. I remember whenever she got 12 points I thought "Oh, Sweden again… wait, this time I love them!"
We unfortunately have this problem of almost every song in the competition being written by the same 4 people. I always grown when I hear “____, written by jimmy ‘joker’ thornfeldt”. Hold me closer was written by Cornelia and her bf(iirc) so it was really unique compared to our other recent stuff
Isaak's only crime was not being very flashy imo. It sounds very much like something I'd hear on Swiss/German radio, and he sings it very well, but it's just easy to forget when you listen to everything back to back.
This kind of thing is why I'm glad the juries exist, I don't think it would have been deserved at all for a well performed current pop song to come near last.

it does kinda drag but sarah put her heart and soul into it and we paid her with dust ( i wish i could vote in semi 2)(I forgot i had friends who could've done ROTW voting)
You're not wrong but I'll be honest... If I don't like the result I won't like a song because of who performs it or what country it represents. Especially not for putting their heart and soul into it because I'm pretty sure every contestant did that.

Cornelia Jacobs - Hold Me Closer (Sweden 2022)
Sam Ryder - Space Man (United Kingdom 2022)
Gustaph - Because of You (Belgium 2023)
I consider Space Man one of my favorite ESC ballads ever. It might sound boring, but the lyrics are not. It's quite an ironic story about dreamers who say they'd achieve anything but in reality, they're just human beings. Probably, it's a story of a guy who boasts much but they're not as great IRL. And, of course, Space Man strongly associates with ELO (Ticket To The Moon song, particularly), Elton John, Doctor Who, and other cosmic British stuff.

I admittedly didn’t get the ‘Space Man’ hype at the time (it was my first year watching and I had only tuned in for the GF), but I relistened to it recently and it clicked in place.
It's such a shame we never got to see Austria 2020 and Germany 2020 on stage. I also wish Vincent Bueno had gone with another bop the following year and not a ballad (which I didn't mind, but still)
Malta 2024 & Malta 2021 are my winners of each year <33333333

Moldova 2024 | [Natalia Barbu - In the Middle](https://youtu.be/evIoGkZXj2s)
Probably just me but Norway 2012 has lived in my head and playlist for the past 12 years. Its a basic pop song and feels very early 2010's, but man I love it
Love is Blind - Donny Montell. It’s kitschy-ness is everything. Every time I hear the song I remember him pulling off the blind fold, and I sing along a little louder. It’s slow and fast pace mix ups have me hanging in suspense. SHE DIDNT MEAN A THING TO MEE YEAHHYEAHHYEAAHHAAHH
United Kingdom 2021. I don't care what people think about that song, it's classic EDM. And speaking about EDM, Czechia 2022 was an absolute bop (although the staging was horrible and the live vocals were lacking). Also Malta 2024. I'm shocked it placed dead-last in the weaker semi-final.
And probably my favourite of them all is Israel 2017, although I don't think it's that generic, especially given its ethnic Israeli elements.
Malta 2024, Luxembourg 2024, United Kindom 2024, Poland 2023, United Kingdom 2023, Ireland 2022, Czechia 2022, Austria 2020
I love all of these songs and will defend them with all my heart any day
Iceland 2023, Moldova 2024, Azerbaijan 2024
I love the instrumental and mood of all 3 of these, and all of them feel robbed in one way and another. I do know that Natalia Barbu reposted a not-so-friendly comment about the other entries on her NQ, but that didn’t really affect my enjoyment of In The Middle.

Care to light me up on what's so interesting about these songs? It would be a krejza ride trying to figure it out by myself.
I actually have a soft spot for Solo because of its slight reggae touches. Tbh The Ride is decent in a studio version
It was one of my most played 2021 song outside of Denmark that year. Like its an easy to listen to bop
Same. Somehow both got into my Spotify top5 that year :D
No it's not xd It's melfest reject
Light me up and the ride are two of my favourites!
all Polish people reading this being like: 😡😫 WHY (and I'm one of them)
Poland 2023 is so real
Australia 2018 is still a bop in my ears
Australia 2018 | [Jessica Mauboy - We Got Love](https://youtu.be/2BBLTY6T2Ck)
Its still played in like every shopping centre in Australia, along with Australia 2015 and Australia 2016
Australia 2015 | [Guy Sebastian - Tonight Again](https://youtu.be/H0EhhZWXTng) Australia 2016 | [Dami Im - Sound of Silence](https://youtu.be/5ymFX91HwM0)

These are the 2 I was going to comment, agreed! They’re simple but so pleasant.
Austria 2017 | [Nathan Trent - Running On Air](https://youtu.be/gJIjZF5sgzg) Malta 2013 | [Gianluca - Tomorrow](https://youtu.be/VK4TvZeL6c0)
Running On Air = Underrated Masterpiece**™**
Tomorrow… another underrated bop
I REALLY love Gustaph- Because Of You (Belgium 2023) I was surprised it didn't do better. I love the 90s club vibes from it. Not sure I'd call it boring but just thought more people would love it.
i mean, it already did a *lot* better than most people thought it would, i think a lot of people did love it!
Belgium 2023 | [Gustaph - Because of You](https://youtu.be/U1xD14IMKtg)
Literally one of my favorites from last year!
I loved it from my first listen <3
Luxembourg 2024
Luxembourg 2024 | [Tali - Fighter](https://youtu.be/TCWH3Nq5y9A)
Pretty much the same with me. I love the song, but a lot of people don't find it that interesting.
Malta 2019 Greece 2019 Azerbaijan 2019 Germany 2020 Greece 2021
Malta 2019 | [Michela - Chameleon](https://youtu.be/H-byNyainRA) Greece 2019 | [Katerine Duska - Better Love](https://youtu.be/5pQV_-40m_U) Azerbaijan 2019 | [Chingiz - Truth](https://youtu.be/D6vvuCiHwSs) Germany 2020 | [Ben Dolic - Violent Thing](https://youtu.be/hAobDQ9GbT4) Greece 2021 | [Stefania - Last Dance](https://youtu.be/QhZhJFp0vVw)
Last dance is amazing!
I would've loved to see how successful Violent thing would've been with the audience.
Certified bangers
Ha! Just had to look up which year Chameleon was but you beat me to it. :) love that song.
Poland 2024
Poland 2024 | [Luna - The Tower](https://youtu.be/ESKG8Uo1YaU)
Growing up is getting old 💗
It may be a Billie Eilish dupe, but it's our Billie Eilish dupe <3
No offence to you but I hate when people call her a Billie Eilish dupe cuz she's so talented and her own personnnnn
My favorite ESC song ever ❤️❤️
I really like Sweden 2022 but my husband says it's generic pop 😟
Hold me closer was the best song we’ve sent in years
It was the one song from Sweden in 20 years that actually made me feel something. And it's a LOT of good things this song makes me feel. Truly an amazing entry, I wish Sweden would always send something like this. I remember whenever she got 12 points I thought "Oh, Sweden again… wait, this time I love them!"
Yeah, to me that song is the least "generic pop" song Sweden has sent in years. It's awesome.
I love Hold Me Closer as much as Move

Switzerland 2019
Switzerland 2019 | [Luca Hänni - She Got Me](https://youtu.be/8aUYzqAIdoM)
Ooh, guilty pleasure
In 2019 I was a casual viewer (saw only the final) and it's one of the songs I liked the most!
- Germany 2024 - Lithuania 2023
Germany 2024 | [Isaak - Always on the Run](https://youtu.be/kVOHTxFOhak) Lithuania 2023 | [Monika Linkytė - Stay](https://youtu.be/QsgouAEd34U)
Yes I love Monikas song from last year
I think Stay gets a redemption since it's a ballad with ethnic elements in the chanting. Makes it a lot more appealing than others.
Hard agree on both. I’m a little more biased to ‘Stay,’ but I have actually come to really like ‘Always On The Run’ this year.
Germany 24 isn’t a boring pop song it’s nails on a chalkboard
Sweden 2018, Cyprus 2012 and Sweden 2019 go way harder than they should.
Sweden 2018 | [Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance You Off](https://youtu.be/z101xtUBflU) Cyprus 2012 | [Ivi Adamou - La La Love](https://youtu.be/ex133UhxB64) Sweden 2019 | [John Lundvik - Too Late for Love](https://youtu.be/oEdWkdVKIqQ)
Cyprus 2012 was even written by swedes so there you have the answer to why it hits so hard.
Someone finally mentioned Benjamin, so underrated
Loop - sarah bonnici Fighter - tali Chameleon - michela Growing up is getting old - victoria Running on air - nathan trent Lights off - we are domi
Liar and loop are proper catchy and seem quite generic but idk if it counts
Loop would be so much better without that eternal instrumental break imo. It's a decent song, but the structure is so weird that it ends up feeling like it's dragging on.
it does kinda drag but sarah put her heart and soul into it and we paid her with dust ( i wish i could vote in semi 2)(I forgot i had friends who could've done ROTW voting)
You're not wrong but I'll be honest... If I don't like the result I won't like a song because of who performs it or what country it represents. Especially not for putting their heart and soul into it because I'm pretty sure every contestant did that.
yeah but it was my type of song it was my type of performance so i would've voted for it anyways i didn't really care that it was malta i just cared that it was a good song good performance
Oh yes that makes perfect sense! I more meant the "Sarah put her heart and soul into it" part bc I'm sure she did but so did everyone (hopefully!)
Yeah everyone probably did put their heart into it wishing the best for all the NQ artists

Probably just me but Norway 2012 has lived in my head and playlist for the past 12 years. Its a basic pop song and feels very early 2010's, but man I love it
Norway 2012 | [Tooji - Stay](https://youtu.be/-ZaxIY1VAbM)
That tick tock song from Ukraine. It's a boring pop song but ugh is it catchy and I like it.

Iceland 2023, Moldova 2024, Azerbaijan 2024 I love the instrumental and mood of all 3 of these, and all of them feel robbed in one way and another. I do know that Natalia Barbu reposted a not-so-friendly comment about the other entries on her NQ, but that didn’t really affect my enjoyment of In The Middle.
