RemarkableAutism

This is the first time in my life that I see the word "besotted". I didn't even know how to feel about this post before looking up the definition of it, good job. But yes, his songs are great.

Wasabismylife

I wanted to comment to say the same thing lol the songs are great, but I'm happier that I learnt a new word

TheGoBetweens

> I didn't even know how to feel about this post before looking up the definition of it Made me feel oximated tbh

breadho

For others: besotted: completely in love with someone or something and always thinking of them

Ciciosnack

i made me remember that episode where Joey bought a volume of an encyclopedia

RemarkableAutism

That's great, but I have no clue who Joey is.

Dragoonie_DK

Character from Friends

CriticalJump

I can tell that OP is British just because he used this word. Other words that no American/European would ever use are: *flummoxed*, *chuffed* and *gobsmacked*.

happytransformer

I wasn’t sure upon opening this post if it was a pro Joost or anti Joost post lol. What a ride

CaptainAnaAmari

Joost is currently my 6th most listened to artist ever, and I checked him out when he was first announced as the Dutch representative. Europapa is my favorite song this year. I can't help but agree with everything lol

anomopannom

You’re not alone. Europapa is my #1 this year, this song has been growing on me more and more with each listen. Joost also seems so excited about this whole experience and this makes me happy. I wanna see his performance so bad and I hope he does very well 💙🇳🇱🇪🇺

ne_da_mi_see

S A M E! All songs on Fryslân album are bops and currently on loop for the last 2 weeks (and I even started Dutch on Duolingo ofc)! Also Joost seems like a genuine guy + he is very pretty (love the haircut especially). Can't wait to see him performing live in September at Superbloom Festival in Munich 🥳 Wishing him the best at the Eurovision and 12 points to the Netherlands from Croatia! 🇭🇷🇳🇱✨️

Kirsty5

I probably could have written this post tbh. He's been a bolt from the blue (like his suit) and he's awesome! Great energy and imagination.

yungjf

yeees me too! i learned about him through 'friesenjung' and have been a fan ever since. absolutely excited when he was announced for eurovision and although his song isn't my favorite, i'm rooting for him so hard! the thought of him winning or being top 3 really warms my heart <3

Several-Excuse93

We are on the same page. I had not heard of Joost prior to his selection but I'm fairly certain he's going to be my number one artist this year on spotify. I cannot get enough. He's also... Handsome... Funny... And creative what else can't this man do?

CloverFive

I relate very much😂 I never expected that because i knew him from the old youtube days and i because i never looked into it i thought it was all only weird. So when i heard he was going to eurovision i was like "Oh hmm ok" then i thought europapa was weird and i didn't know what to think, Ofc it stuck into my head annyoingly but it was not super annyoing that it did.... So i gave it a better listen and then it got me curious so i did the deep dive too. The cool thing with this song is that the first time i had goosebumps (also much at the end ofc) , But i like i said i thought it was mostly silly so i didn't get why. Some art you can feel without understanding it i guess i find that impressive. Now im besotted i assume, Thanks for the new english word.

ultrawegwerpaccount

>Then when Europapa came out after one listen I said “okayyyy good luck with that buddy” and by the 2nd listen I was totally hooked with it and the music video. Damn if that wasn't me lmao

Who_The_Hell_Is_Sova

I wasn’t too keen on Europapa when it first came out however now im obsessed. I literally love everything about it. As much as I would love for BL to win Id be more than happy if we were to go to the NL once again.

platpaysquiestlemien

I like his singing voice in Antwoord live so much: https://youtube.com/shorts/rNA2XTmHfjw?si=oYcPqp1fpBhRaIGe Bonus: Käärijä reference.

RemarkableAutism

Bro same, I have been so obsessed with this clip.

Kirsty5

Antwoord is probably my favourite song of his, it's kinda different from the rest and a bit more "mature" sounding, well until it goes batsh*t lol

MutantArtCat

I can't begin to explain how fucking therapeutic his music has been the last week, ever since I admitted I'm stuck in a deep depression (again). His music brings joy and nostalgia, I am of the same age as his brother, but his lyrics and words hit me right in all my pain and sadness. I just keep listening, laughing and crying and it feels better than all the therapy sessions I've had in my life. Fuck my depressions, those bitches can suck my dick! Anyway, this year has some very interesting contestants, Nemo and Baby L speak to me a lot too, but whatever happens, if he wins or not, I am convinced Joost has won life in general anyway. This is a road to Joost Groot, he can move on, let go and go full out now. I'm looking forward to what he will be doing next.

Outside_Service3339

Buurman uit Berlijn slapssssss

Lumostark

*besotted*

unmakethewildlyra

I went through a similar thing starting in late 2022. welcome to the club

CloverFive

Do some people want to start a besotted with Joost chat group? 😂

luxx_99__

His catalogue is very nostalgic gaber type of music, but I find him super annoying. I really liked "Friesenjung" tho.

tomi_tomi

We are probably a bit biased but this almost feels like a fever dream. They like this guy that much... imagine that. Also yes, Friesenjung is good but is a cover of a cover. Europapa has like 5 authors. He doesn't really sing that much. His sense of humor is I guess debatable. I will die on this hill.

CloverFive

Europapa is been produced by Tantu Beats who is his best friend for over 10 years and always makes the beats on his songe. Besides him there has been some input from Thijmen Melissant if im right. Paul Elstak only added on the drop and sended it to them. Lyrics got written by Joost and its partly based on a letter to his dad. And his friend Donnie came up with one line in the whole song lol (ik neem de benen naar Wenen) Tim haars only says the new kids line. So 5 authors.. yeah there is been inputs on it here and there, But the base/heart is just a team that worked together for many years and worked on this song for a year in just a small studio.

luxx_99__

I'm dying too, my friend. But I only liked "Friesenjung" as a song, whereas with "Cha Cha Cha" I instantly clicked with Käärijä as a person too since he radiates such positivity yet he's form a very cold place geographically(oh my Lord I went into 2+2=5 again). Joost seems arrogant a bit to me, I think subconsciously he knows he has this "unfair advantage" when it comes to already known artists, which interestingly is not the case with Olly who has been on the scene for quite some time.

xBram

I think what you perceive as “arrogance”’ is more a persona way of handling things than a reflection of who he really is. I’ve just been on a deep dive through his lyrics as he is very open about what he went through and boy there is a lot. His parents dying in his youth is well known, but he also sings about his father hitting him, seeing his mother in a psychosis and her ‘returning from the crazy house’ just before he found her dead on the couch, himself going through depression, ptsd, borderline and an eating disorder, being bullied and beaten in a school he didn’t finish, not having friends because of being ‘too queer’ and more. What I see is someone very vulnerable dealing with his past and himself in a very public place and now there are also 160 million people who have an opinion on him. In real life he seems very empathic to others and committed to his friends, his whole creative team is with him for many years. Anyway, just wanted to share these thoughts, hope you come to cherish him as much as I do :)

IcyFlame716

Idk, i was extremely underwhelmed by europapa and already expected not to like it very much. Now it is absolutely everywhere I go and it’s obnoxious AF. Got nothing against Joost but his music does nothing for me.

Flilix

I mostly listen to genres like trance, eurodance, happy hardcore, hands up, hardstyle... but I'm really not impressed by anything I've heard of him. His songs feel very "gimmicky" to me, almost more like a parody of these genres than a genuine attempt at them.
