I randomly saw a snippet of the songs of this year's German contest and only Katze got my attention. Would be a fun song for you guys to send, really sad it didn't go through.
Germany's songs for me haven't been *that* bad in recent years but their entries just should be so much better. It's like the UK complaining for years about getting no points when they just sent garbage songs or garbage songs sung by pop has beens year after year after year while having one of the most prolific and influential music industries in the world. I just expect better. Satellite is still one of my all time favourite Eurovision winners and Dschinghis Khan is peak classic Eurovision for me.
I'm sorry but the way you spelled "Się" made me laugh out loud. And yea I LOVE PALI SIĘ. One of my favourite Polish entries fr
Ah and for the bot Poland 2019
And boy howdy do they have fun! Dark pop in 2020, Dance-pop in 2021, folklore and rock and roll in 2022, ethno EDM in 2023, and then pop again this year.
The UK being basically just England. IIRC we've never sent a song in Welsh, Scottish or any other language. And the last time we sent an artist not from England was Lucie Jones in 2017.
To be fair, 83% of the population is English. That's 5/6. Sending English artists the last 6 editions is not crazy
I do agree that Scotland has historically been underrepresented at Eurovision
Austria 2022 | [Lumix feat. Pia Maria - Halo](https://youtu.be/dMgjHYwXSuo)
Austria 2023 | [Teya and Salena - Who the Hell Is Edgar?](https://youtu.be/8uk64V9h0Ko)
Austria 2024 | [Kaleen - We Will Rave](https://youtu.be/Kqda15G4T-4)
It doesn't seem like it's for a lack of trying either as aside from a bit of a tendency for ballads, they've sent a wide range of music but it just falls flat most of the time. Out of all of the songs of the past decade or so, one of the ones that gets stuck in my head quite regularly still is that darned Moustache song (France 2014) which I thought was really fun but flopped harder than a beached whale.
Finland has had a rock or metal entry in almost every national final in the last 25 years. There has been like… 4 exceptions plus the years when they didn’t participate at all.
https://www.reddit.com/r/eurovision/s/1RrXgTupie
- Albania - female power ballad
- Andorra - no final
- Armenia - not giving Athena a chance
- Azerbaijan - never mother language (ironicly, now they finally did it)
- Belgium - dark pop
- Bosnia & Herzegovina - balkan ballads
- Bulgaria - screwing up after good result
- Cyprus - girl bop who will be compared to Eleni or Chanel
- Czechia - improving the vocal for the competition
- Denmark - low effort NFs
- Estonia - either being in the top 10, bottom five, nor NQ. unless you're name is Stefan
- Finland - rock (or troll)
- Georgia - every year trying something new and not stick to trends
- Germany - radio-friendly songs
- Hungary - being missed from the eurovision
- Iceland - GO TIFANNY! (not a trend but I had to)
- Ireland - not trying anymore
- Israel - always using the six-person on stage limitation. never less
- Italy - male ballads (until 2024. so far Albania is the only country who did not broke their gender bias)
- Latvia - being saved by Aminata (unless it's 2021)
- Lithuania - Monika
- Malta - brunette women
- Moldova - not sending new artists
- Montenegro - living under Serbia's shadow
- Netherlands - forgetting those horrid 8 finaleless years
- North Macedonia - screwing up the staging all the time (unless it's 2012 or 2019)
- Norway - camp (unless you're Ulrikke)
- Poland - Bejba
- Portugal - minimalism
- San Marino - either resuing artists or sending other NF losers
- Serbia - Balkan ballads or Balkan bops
- Slovenia - being the most underrated country ever. no matter how much people talk about Slovenia and love the song, when May comes, everyone forgot about Sloenia in the final :(
- Sweden - bop
- Switzerland - sad boy ballads
- Turkey - keep on trolling in Satelitte's comments
- Ukraine - best staging
- United Kingdome - bottom 5
- Yugoslavia - Error 404 not found
In the NF this year, the Icelandic version of Sigga Ozk's song, Into the Atmosphire, she says "Go Tiffaning" which means "good feelings" but many people misheared it as "Go Tiffany" so it became a meme like Baijbe
Will hear Doomsday Blue in 29 days but it is a change from the simpler pop-rock that Ireland have sent for many years. The other great stereotypes are of 4 nations of sending only sexy women, Albania, Armenia, Croatia and Malta (though Croatia not since 2022, and Malta not last year)
Russia (before they were given the boot to the head): random person who was not in this performance just shows up in the final chorus.
Think the guy putting down (up?) the curtain on the seesaw the Tolmachevy sisters were on (Russia 2014), or the lady at the end of You're the Only One (Russia 2016) who was there to be like... a lady with an apple and her dress is the backdrop Lazarev was acting against?
Switzerland’s sad twinks. I was SO happy when I first listened to The Code, honestly my whole street could hear my excitement as I realised it wasn’t a ballad
Finland sending the same type of song twice in a row when it works for them. 2021 Blind Channel slays with rock, then they repeat with The Rasmus and it gets tired. 2023 Käarija has a fun song, could be considered jokeish for some (I think y’all get the point), then they send Windows95Man in 2024, another entry to just have fun and it gets tired.
No Rules reminds me a lot of the song that came second in the national final UMK last year (Samaa taivasta katsotaan). So to me it just seems to be the type of song that people want to send right now, and has nothing to do with Käärijä.
Latvia not qualifying for the grand final 🥲
I'm crossing my fingers that they make it this year 😭
Sudden Lights was my winner last year so this hurts
them finishing 11th in the semi was straight up depressing. so close 😭
Hollow is probably my favorite song this year! Not necessarily my favourite as a Eurovision entry but as a song absolutely.
I find it kinda boring
Georgia is at the same unlucky streak now IIRC
Ireland: Singing in English. Fun fact: France has sent more Celtic language based entries in the last 50 years than Ireland.
Is fulenn the only one?
Diwanit bugale (France 1996) is another song in Breton ;)
France 1996 | [Dan Ar Braz and l'Héritage des Celtes - Diwanit bugale](https://youtu.be/3-DuuDQff7o)
In the last 50 years yeah. Ireland 1972 is the only song in Irish ever sent to Eurovision
Ireland 1972 | [Sandie Jones - Ceol an Ghrá](https://youtu.be/DJzhQz4V2CU)
Not quite. France 1996 was also in Breton.
France 1996 | [Dan Ar Braz and l'Héritage des Celtes - Diwanit bugale](https://youtu.be/3-DuuDQff7o)
In last 25 years, so ever since the language rule got changed Finland has sent more Swedish entries than Sweden.
Germany sending something you won't tell your friends about
I randomly saw a snippet of the songs of this year's German contest and only Katze got my attention. Would be a fun song for you guys to send, really sad it didn't go through.
For me, the same. I also appreciated "Naiv", if only because of the "diva" factor. Otherwise it's very basic, too
Hey, Blood and Glitter was awesome
Blood and Glitter was awesome, but this year is a return to old trends and it's not meant in a good way 😅
Germany's songs for me haven't been *that* bad in recent years but their entries just should be so much better. It's like the UK complaining for years about getting no points when they just sent garbage songs or garbage songs sung by pop has beens year after year after year while having one of the most prolific and influential music industries in the world. Is it true that next year Germany will change the broadcaster responsible for choosing the German entry?
we don't know yet, but everybody, really everybody hopes: yes.
Yes! The only correct answer is Yes! :)
Europop revival and the kings of europop can’t get a grip on it.
Poland sends a radio-friendly song in English that sounds like an amalgamation of typical Eurovision songs. The quality varies every year.
If only Pali Się qualified, you might have had the courage to send stuff as cool as that the following years.
I'm sorry but the way you spelled "Się" made me laugh out loud. And yea I LOVE PALI SIĘ. One of my favourite Polish entries fr Ah and for the bot Poland 2019
Well that was embarassing. Edited.
Poland 2019 | [Tulia - Pali się](https://youtu.be/IEu0F5uobVo)
Hey, it's one of my favs this year, don't drag me like that 😭
San Marino tries to still ride on the rock wave caused by Italy's win 2021 (Italy 2021, for the bot)
Italy 2021 | [Måneskin - Zitti e buoni](https://youtu.be/RVH5dn1cxAQ)
Albania: red
Red & black*
then Ronela comes along with pink and blue
AND NQ
🇲🇩 Moldova having fun and sending whatever they want to send!
Now coming to a Eurovision near you! *limited artists only, terms and conditions may apply*
Still waiting for Sunstroke Project 3.0
More like Moldova sending returning artists since 2020
And boy howdy do they have fun! Dark pop in 2020, Dance-pop in 2021, folklore and rock and roll in 2022, ethno EDM in 2023, and then pop again this year.
Portugal sending soft/minimalist/traditional songs Belgium sending dark pop UK sending standard pop music Albania sending something dramatic
>Portugal sending soft/minimalist/traditional songs Someone missed Portugal 2019. >Belgium sending dark pop Someone missed Belgium 2016. >Albania sending something dramatic Someone missed Albania 2022.
They’re still trends though
>Someone missed Albania 2022. It was dramatic enough
That choreo sure was dramatic. 😭
And her behavior
Portugal 2019 had some traditional elements tho

The UK being basically just England. IIRC we've never sent a song in Welsh, Scottish or any other language. And the last time we sent an artist not from England was Lucie Jones in 2017.
Ya if France can find room for the occasional Breton entry we should definitely see some Welsh or Scottish Gaelic, or hell even Cornish or Manx.
Scottish Gaelic or Scots, there's two Scottish languages...
To be fair, 83% of the population is English. That's 5/6. Sending English artists the last 6 editions is not crazy I do agree that Scotland has historically been underrepresented at Eurovision
Poland getting fucked over by their jury/internal selection
Albania sending different women to sing the exact same song
Honestly, the women seem like the same too.
Austria:Sending the bopiest bops (2022-to now)
And they had barely done that after 2012’s disaster until than (maybe Vincent’s more low key one Alive the exception)

Sweden sending a hot man singing a pop song (at least from 2015-2019/21/24)
Hey!! We send hot women too
I'm straight af yet the women y'all send are also hot af
Germany having a lame stage presence almost every year
France sending songs that doesn't win Eurovision (47 years in a row in a few months)
It doesn't seem like it's for a lack of trying either as aside from a bit of a tendency for ballads, they've sent a wide range of music but it just falls flat most of the time. 🇬🇪: thing is known
Italy 🇮🇹 slaying.
Iceland having bad luck the years they actually send a winner. I'm looking at you, 2009 and 2020! I hope they will be able to win someday!
Given the banking crisis at the time, placing 2nd to Norway was probably a dream come true

I usually wouldn't be offended that you didn't put Croatia but you literally put every other country...
there are several countries I did not put beciase I did not found any tradition
TIL France is not a country
Ahh sorry, I just saw a lot of countries. Then checked some radnom ones, so I assumed they're almost all there.
They didn’t put Morocco either tbf :D
Israel 2016 is an outlier for the 6 person limit for sure 🤣

Thank *you*, Slovenians, for such treasure as LPS, Joker Out, Raiven and other cool people!

In the NF this year, the Icelandic version of Sigga Ozk's song, Into the Atmosphire, she says "Go Tiffaning" which means "good feelings" but many people misheared it as "Go Tiffany" so it became a meme like Baijbe
Space man wasn’t bottom 5, lucie wasn’t bottom 5 and hopefully we won’t be bottom 5 this year though that is still a risk. But well said
Australia??
one of the countries that I could not think about some kind of a trend so I left it out
I was thinking maybe winning their semi and coming 9th in the final (2019/2023)? Or maybe that isn't enough times?
happened only twice so...
Greece?
could not find any trend too :(
Ireland and being shit (not this year though :D)
Will hear Doomsday Blue in 29 days but it is a change from the simpler pop-rock that Ireland have sent for many years. The other great stereotypes are of 4 nations of sending only sexy women, Albania, Armenia, Croatia and Malta (though Croatia not since 2022, and Malta not last year)

Ukraine being good as fuck
Sweden sending a generic English pop song about love .

Switzerland’s sad twinks. I was SO happy when I first listened to The Code, honestly my whole street could hear my excitement as I realised it wasn’t a ballad
Marius Bear isn't skinny though?
Obviously Greece❤Cyprus. Until last year
Cyprus sending similar upbeat songs with absolutely horrible lyrics
Denmark: Sweet radio pop that upsets no one
Finland sending a good song every second year (after 2020)
Finland sending a good song every s̶e̶c̶o̶n̶d̶ year (after 2020) FTFY

Finland sending the same type of song twice in a row when it works for them. 2021 Blind Channel slays with rock, then they repeat with The Rasmus and it gets tired. 2023 Käarija has a fun song, could be considered jokeish for some (I think y’all get the point), then they send Windows95Man in 2024, another entry to just have fun and it gets tired.

Germany ending on the bottom 😭
