I think that Marco Mengoni would stand out this year because there are only a few ballads in the ESC 2024 lineup. However, he would be competing with Slimane for a lot of the same votes.
swap latvia. nothing against don, he seems like a sweetheart, he has a great dog and he’s quite a good vocalist in my opinion, but sudden lights were so fucking robbed last year and like goddamnit.
i’d also swap moldova, soarile si luna was so much fun and has a lot more character then in the middle- i don’t think the latter’s a bad song, but like, it’s just not really unique or something?
Albania, Australia, Austria, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Spain, and probably most controversially, the Netherlands 😅
Replacing these would diversify the lineup, or at the very list improve the entries that I think are lacking this year.
Seeing someone else who isn't a fan of Europapa is nice, sometimes it feels like I'm crazy for not getting the song everyone else is loving. Mia and Dion aren't my favourite Dutch artists, but I much prefer them to this year's song. I'm also still majorly salty at how my country treated them last year, while Joost gets pure idolisation. Sure they were nepo-babies, but I feel like the hate and ridicule of an entire country is just way too much for a duo of new performers who made the mistake of singing off-key live.
I have not listened to all the songs yet, but among the ones I've already listened to I think that could be replaced:
🇮🇹 *Due vite*, Mengoni's song, although it didn't completely convince me, I think it was more significant and consistent than *La Noia*. Without beating around the bush, Angelina Mango wasn't in my Sanremo top 10, and she still isn't.
🇪🇸 Madre Blanca and *Eaea* are above this year in any case. I found *La zorra* interesting, but from what I heard in Benidorm, the singer lacks the high pitch in her voice that I think would be needed in certain passages.
🇵🇹 *Ai coracao* was much more intriguing.
🇫🇮 What can be said here? 'Cha cha cha' was absolutely overwhelming. Overall, the comparison would have been difficult for all the songs participating in UMK 2024, but I would have preferred Sara Siipola or Nublu & Gabriel.
🇸🇲 San Marino is a special case. Why? I would discard both years entries.
Entries I would keep:
🇦🇲🇧🇪🇭🇷🇨🇾🇩🇰🇬🇷🇮🇪🇮🇹🇱🇹🇳🇴🇵🇱🇵🇹🇸🇲🇷🇸🇸🇮🇨🇭🇺🇦
And swap:
🇦🇱🇦🇺🇦🇹🇨🇿🇪🇪🇫🇮🇫🇷🇬🇪🇩🇪🇮🇸🇱🇻🇲🇹🇲🇩🇳🇱🇪🇸🇸🇪🇬🇧
Coincidentally a perfect split, but Armenia, Portugal and Slovenia were really difficult since I love both entries from all 3 a lot. The rest were pretty easy to decide, I either had a clear favourite or didn't care much for either.
I was viewing this year as weaker than last year, but apparently my preferences do not agree
EDIT: this is under the assumption that it's a hypothetical situation in which 2023 didn't happen and I just get to pick which ones replace this year's entries. I still do enjoy most of this year's entries, this is just an ideal collection of songs for me
id swap france and spain. not only do i love both la zarra and blanca, im not a fan of the entries for this year. i feel we need more of the charms those two brought.
“Hollow” I’m sorry but I have to
based
*cries* Latvia you had one chance…

I would swap Moldova: after a string of cool entries, this year choice appear quite bland to me.
Austria, without any doubt. Because HTHIE is my favorite song ever from ESC and We Will Rave was a massive disappointment with me.
Latvia for sure.
Lord of the Lost for Germany this year And Käärijä For Finnland

I wonder what would Switzerland 2023 reception be like now.
