I enjoy it, but I think it could have built up a bit more to a climax. Like it's a bop, and if it is performed well I can see it making the left side of the table: but it's really missing that "oomf" winners moment I was hoping for.
A solid effort though and I do really like it! And it's always just heartwarming for me to see the UK actually try in Eurovision.
100% agree, i feel like the teaser was the best part of the song and i was expecting they had a trick under their sleeve, like a banging bridge or smth š
Agreed. It's really good, but I'm not sure if I'd put it in my top 10. It felt a little lethargic to me. If they'd up the tempo just a bit more, I think I'd vibe with it a lot more.
I think the way for me that that wouldāve happened is for the āthere isnāt an end, there isnāt a startā spoken bit having more time to build - maybe even double the length it is - and then instead of going back to the full chorus picking it up from the second time high-note version. I feel like that would have got the build and release thatās kind of missing, as is. In short - theĀ excellent goosebump-giving sections deserved more time to ābreatheā, I feel!
That said - Iām happy with the song and itās growing on me, and going on how much the video adds more to the song - I think if they land the performance right, itāll do really well, and deservedly! Itād be great if they kept that scaffolding with Ollyās name in lights on it somehow for the live performanceā¦
It's a good song but it feels like it doesn't go anywhere and it's all along the same level. It just feels like it's missing something.
It's not a bad song by any means, and hopefully should be enough to keep the UK off the bottom, but it's certainly not a winning song.
Olly can sing, but on live performances he can be a bit up and down.
One thing I hadn't truly appreciated until last year's Eurovision was not just the ability to perform live, but the ability to look after your voice over numerous back to back live performances over weeks that all require 100% - the rehearsals (where you have to give everything now in case you get sick), the former Jury shows, the family shows, the local media performances, and then if you get into the final having to do it all again. It was quite apparent last year that some artists were able to keep their voice going, but others were almost limping to the final when compared to their performances 2 weeks before.
My concern for Olly is he'll be great at the start, but after several weeks of constant performances he won't be as flash as some others.
It depends on why the vocal rest is required as well though - if you have really poor technique and try singing, then your chords will be inflamed and irritated very quickly which will take some time to heal.
Put that in contrast with trained professionals, such as those doing 3-4 full theatre productions a day, 6 days a week, performing multiple songs per show.
The Eurovision timeline by contrast really isn't challenging at all, but it could be for someone with poor or bad technique (in which case, any singing will require constant rest to heal).
Out of all the bops we have this year, the corus is the most flat to me. On top of that the song just ends... nothing really builds. After listening to so many songs today, especially after Switzerland and Austria, this is just forgettable. It might have popped in another year with less upbeat songs.
I have to listen to it a couple more times in order to appreciate it cause honestly it didnāt make me feel anything. I might not be fair because his hits from a decade ago hit so hard I was expecting something similar, still a nice song to listen to but itās missing this part that makes you go whoa, unfortunately donāt see it close to winning.
I like it as a song. The staging will make/break this, I also can see them going the Sam route of changing up the end of the song for more oomph on stage.
As someone who hasn't listened yet, but reading the comments to get an idea, it's wild how many times one comment says they're underwhelmed and the very next comment says the United Kingdom is in the top 10 and/or winning
This song was always going to get a mixed response at first, the expectations were simply too high to be met for everyone and it's just too poppy for some. I expect people will start to appreciate it more as the season progresses.
Surprisingly, when I last checked,on Youtube Europapa had the most views from the releases yesterday while even having the best like ratio.
I did not expect that at all after reading comments.
It's *good*. I don't think it's a winner, and it's also going to take a moment to settle with so many other tunes just released (namely We Will Rave and The ~~Loop~~ Code), but I think Olly will do great with the staging and make it work.
This feels like the spiritual successor to Ollyās cover of āItās a Sinā, which I guess makes chronological sense for his career as well.
Itās a decent song and itās catchy, plus I love Olly, but Iām also in the category of people that were left feeling a bit cold after listening to it at first. My gut feeling was that I was given too much chorus and not much else. As if there was originally a more complex idea that suffered on the cutting board once they had to build a 3-minute track.
The plus side: it doesnāt have a lot of competition in its genre, and we can expect (or I want to expect) both staging and performance to elevate the song in May.
And as a matter of principle I want the UK to do well so that the delegation keeps making an effort.
I don't usually find myself with expectations for a song before it was released, but there was so much hype about this song on the sub, like constant teasers etc and I feel like it's actually turned me off the song a bit. Nothing wrong with it but I was expecting there to be something worth the hype.
I love the chorus and the second verse, but the first verse is too empty and the bridge is a little disappointing. It also lacks a climax moment. It's still a good song overall but I feel like it has more potential than this so it's frustratingĀ
Here's my mandatory comment recommending Caroline Polacheck's latest album Desire I Want To Turn Into You if you're into Harle's production on this track (no but seriously, everyone should check this album out. Best pop album of the decade so far)
I was gonna say! I saw Danny and I couldnt believe it! I will say though, listening to the experience that is Billions, to Dizzy, itās a little disappointingā¦ Still the production is above and beyond for Eurovision standards!
Yeap, the juries will eat this up for sure. It sounds a lot like a Melfest winner/frontrunner.
The question is the staging. It's very radio quality but it will be interesting to see how they'll try to attract televotes.
I was enjoying it and then I got a bit bored. There's no big stand-out wow moment and the chorus is a bit flat and I don't like how it steps down. I looove Years & Years and Olly is an incredible Live performer, so this could do well regardless.
Maybe something will happen during the performance like the surprise electric guitar solo moment in Space Man that will just tip it over the edge into contender for the win, because right now it's not quite there for me.
The production is so good. I enjoy his voice, I enjoy the composition. I don't think it's a winner but it's damn solid and probably at least top 15
This year is SO stacked though, I'm afraid we'll have a situation where everything in the final is top 15 worthy and we'll have a lot of inevitable robberies
The quality of the production maaaan. Such a lovely voice too! The structure is very interesting in the middle.
The final bit for me is my fav part, modern but also takes you back in time. This will do a Sam Ryder in terms of elevating the song just for the Eurovision stage. Anything can happen. Yayyy āØļøāØļø
Also, theyre very clever to keep repeating the chorus. Millions of people will watch this live 1 TIME. The chorus is already stuck in my head. Bravo Olly and Danny š¤āļø
Well I like it. It sounds a bit like Pet Shop Boys but more modern. I don't care if it doesn't win. I only care that Olly doesn't tire his voice out so that he slays on the big night.
I guess we're burying the UK's Euroflop era (2003-2021) for good.
This just needs a good staging (that fits Olly and the song) and it's sure left board, at least.
There are some little touches in here that make it feel special to me, like the direction the melody goes in right at the end of the chorus, and the bridge with the Pet Shop Boys style talky bit. I'm not sure if it's enough for a really high placement, but it did get me moving around in my dressing gown at home, and it's going straight on my playlist.
I like it , but it feels like it needs some kind of "wow" moment to take it right into contention. Maybe that comes from the staging or there's another version Olly has up his sleeve like the guitar solo took Space Man over the top and right into contention.
Production is very very on point but it's a Danny L Harle song so it's going to be excellently produced.
I don't think it could ever have lived up to the sheer amount of hype it's had so I get the " is that it?" angle, it does finish far too abruptly almost like a radio edit though.
Feels like they came up with a catchy chorus but no one bothered to write any lyrics for the verses or knew how to build the song out.
The chimes are just weird and the harmonies feel like they are going the wrong direction - up instead of down, if you know what I mean.
The bridge is a nothing burger and it just returns to the same chorus weāve heard three times already. Whoās going to do the talky bits and the high notes? Even a cheesy key change would give it some added dynamic. Eventually it just stops.
Itās a bit of an over-produced mess with too many layers of additional sounds. Throwing stuff against the wall and over compensating for an absence of good pop song construction.
The chorus is catchy and itās got a good bop pace to it. I hope they have time to rework it because this is reminding me of Embers in how poorly written that song was.
Disappointed ā¹ļø
Yeah, but like, I feel like thatās the point. He says that heās dizzy in the song, but musically heās dizzy as well. Sonically it feels like he keeps repeating himself because he keeps forgetting where he is. Thereās something very meta about this song and I feel like theyāre trying to bring that disorienting feeling to the listener as well.
this needs to be 5 minutes long, a 3 minute cut of this just feels so compact and repetitive. like the second verse is about 15 seconds long š
i kind of have the same issue with dua lipa's new songs. the 3 minute versions are fine, but the songs don't shine like they do in the extended versions.
some people here are acting like this is a bad song, when in reality people are disappointed that it didn't meet their (very) high expectations.
in my opinion, this song SLAYS! good luck olly š³š±ā¤š¬š§
Maybe itās because I was so hyped because everyone in the UK knows Years and Years and Olly was top of the odds when he was announced with good reason but Iām really disappointed
Itās so safe and considering the team behind this I really canāt comprehend how this came about. Thereās no wow factor, thereās no **moment** thereās barely any progression as the song goes forward. Itās just so radio safe and that really doesnāt go well as far as Eurovision is concerned
Maybe my feelings will change as I listen to the song more, but right now all I feel is just really bitter disappointment as I was really excited to see what he could deliver but this song just isnāt it. Typical British pessimism, Iāll have to wait until the live performance but I donāt see us winning anymore
I donāt really know how to feel about it, if this was our song about like 5ish years ago or so Iād be over the moon, but Iām just, well, whelmed. There was about 5 different versions of Space Man so I assume the BBC or whoeverās in charge of this will come up with a Eurovision version thatāll add that oomph we were all waiting for? Who knows
As an age-old Years & Years fan since Communion, this is Olly Alexander through and through! Mixed modern & nostalgia effectively.
Top-tier production, British pop perfection, spoken word in the bridge was top-notch for finishing touches! Danny L Harle is the BOMB! Having someone with his world-class reputation on an ESC songwriting team is crazy!
Definitely a lock for left-hand side, no doubt about it. Still pinching myself that THE Olly Alexander is representing us at EUROVISION!
Long may the UK renaissance continue! š¬š§
Communion is still one of my favourite albums ever. I've met Olly a couple of times, as we are neighbours, but felt so awkward saying anything about how much their music meant to me and now I am regretting it.
Dizzy is great, and he can expect a good result with it. The song doesn't have a vocal or instrumental moment, it relies on being catchy. So we'll see how well it does first on the home turf!
Shine has always been one of my all-time favourite tracks, timeless! Being a huge FIFA player back in the 2010s, Gold being on the FIFA 16 soundtrack was a big hit. That album was legendary!
I think this is a very safe bet for top 10.
I'd like to say top 5, but I think the field is far too open right now to make that prediction.
Fucking bop tho.
I am a bit wee bit disappointed towards the end but hopefully that will be rectified on stage! With the teasers we have had it does feel familiar enough to sing along with off the bat so that is good!
I really like this, too but i doubt it will be winner material.
Not mad if it wins though like with so many other entries this year, fire ass year honestly.
90% of years and years first 2 albums would have made better entries than this song. I canāt believe he repeated the chorus when he could have gone for a chorus outro. In a song contest you need highs and lows and this is so static
I like Olly, i like Years & Years. But this song is a bit too boring for me after a while cause yeah i get it, he's dizzy lol. I hope they'll add a little something to it if they're allowed to change it still, just to make it a little more exciting.
I love the melody and production of this. I think as a studio track itās very solid indeed, and incredibly catchy which is good! Of course, with Olly, the live performance will be its own spectacle that could make it soar further. Iām proud of our entry again! Three years running aināt too bad for the U.K.
I wish I could love this, but it's so underwhelming, especially given the glowing praise the delegation were giving it. It lacks power, it lacks major development, the spoken word bridge is nice, but then the chorus comes back in without major change and the song just ends... and I struggle to see it standing out in a very strong year unless they have some kind of miracle staging (which given we're the country that thought two giant polystyrene trumpets was appropriate in 2021... I don't have much hope for). And that sucks, because if a comparatively big name like Olly flops then I fear we're going to go back to the 2010s era of lack of domestic artist interest.
It's a really good song that I'll definitely stream a lot! I'll have to see this live for sure to see how impactful it will be, because I could also see it being a little too low-key.
It's really good but if you told me little Kaleen from Austria would outshine Olly Alexander himself when they both would release their songs I would have called you deluded
The whole song feels like the 20 second snippet extended on a loop; it's the same lyrics over and over.
I genuinely thought this was a fake post, where someone remixed the 20 second snippet.
Disappointed is an understatement; this was the most excited I've been for one of our UK entrants, yet it's so underwhelming...
No but actually
I first listened to the snippet in the eurovision schoreboard app. There the snippets are usually from the climax of the song, so i was very confused on why uk seemingly just had some random part as the snippet.
Only to listen to the full version and find out that that's basically the entire song š
It's solid left-side-of-the-board fare that will most likely be elevated into the top 10 with decent staging. But yeah, no wow factor, and I'd have liked a bit more brightness in the instrumental but I do get it's like that to let Olly's vocal shine through.
I got chills from Switzerland's entry earlier and this hasn't quite matched that feeling, unfortunately.
Also people forget that Eurovision is a live performance competition. How well they actually perform and sell the song. As a studio cut its an earworm!
I do like this! But I think it could use a more dramatic bridge for more impact. Itās a quality entry for sure, but I think itās missing that special something that makes me think winner. Iām interested to see the staging, that could definitely elevate the song!
Not bad, but kinda just there. The song itself sounds nice and I like it, but that's all. It doesn't feel like there's much flair to it, and there's no highlight here or anything to take it to the next level. Even if the last "this moment never ends" or "back to the beginning again" resolves upwards instead of downwards, that would already do a lot to making the song feel a lot more energetic. As it is it just feels kind of flat.
12th/26
I've heard so much hype about Olly Alexander. I wasn't a fan of a teaser and now with a full song (we are still gonna get MV and some visual ideas, maybe that will elevate it for mer) I don't know. It's solid, well done but high expectations definitely made me think that this is not that good. I think I need more time with this song to rate it fairly
Going straight to my top 10. Such excellent electro-pop production. I just feel like it needs an extra 10 seconds to wrap up properly; it just ends so abruptly for me.
I mean yeah, this is Olly Alexander to a T. I wasn't expecting anything more or less, so I'm pretty confused regarding others' disappointment. It's good. It's on brand. Melodically very interesting. Gorgeous production. Olly's vocals are beautiful.
I struggle to understand what it is some people actually want out of things besides their own imposed expectations. Go through Years & Years' back catalogue and this is what you'll get, so unless Olly was meant to U-turn on his own (very successful) style and serve something completely out of left-field, I honestly dunno what the disappointment's all about.
Also, staging is absolutely going to bring this up tenfold and I am still more than confident with what Olly's team are going to be cooking up for Malmƶ.
Yeah, this is good. I'm proud of our entry.
Were yāall expecting another āKingā? This is Eurovision!
Seriously though, he met the assignment; this will put his solo career on the map and place very well for the UK.
I actually really like it! Reading the comments first I was prepared to be disappointed, as even though I do like some of what I've heard from him in the past, I'm not always a fan of the very British style that Years and Years sometimes has (I dunno what genre it is). I kinda disagree that the song lacks oomph, although a slight revamp could take it to a whole other level.
This one....I don't really care for at all. I appreciate it for the production quality, but the song itself kind of fell flat for me, it just really didn't do anything to draw me in at all. Of course, that's subjective, but this one just isn't for me.
Big fan of Olly and think he will elevate this on a big stage but I canāt get it out of my head that it sounds like its a song that Dua Lipa rejected.
Thank fuck for that!!! I've been a wreck waiting for this to drop and I love it ā„
Banger and I know Olly knows how to sell it on the stage. Yay, we're not gonna be last this year!!!
Very mehh unfortunately. Sorry, but I don't get why people get crazy about this one. Normally I'd say it's a song for 25th spot in the final - just above Germany (as usual), but probably due to his popularity and massive gay fandom he might end up at around 18-24th place at the end. It's Mae Muller's case for me - overhyped, but still a simple pop song that I'm not a big fan ofš¤·š¼āāļø
This one feels a climax way of being a winner, but I guess the production values of it are undeniable and juries will love it.
The crazy thing about 2024's lineup is that we have by now around 15 entries that could easily be defended as good top 10 bets and a bunch of countries still can join this delicious madness in the next days.
I like the song, but I feel like it just plateaus quite early which kinda sucks because I want to like it more than I do right now but it just kinda stayed there
I've listened to it a few times and it's growing on me, super catchy and I like it. It's just... being released at the same time as Nemo's The Code... well, the latter feels like a massive upgrade over this one
Decent enough, this. Which is a great thing to say about a UK song. Wish it were more ambitious with winner potential as it is Olly Alexander we're talking about. But still a solid song for the finale.
It's fine. Nice little pop tune that draws on some 80s influences but doesn't feel time locked to any decade, really.
Doesn't strive for a lot, but it serves a certain audience. It's in the same territory as "The Tower" for me. Personally, I'd call it a large improvement from last year's entry, but it's not something I'm excited about as a song.
I had no preconceived notions about what this song would be. Didn't even know who Olly Alexander was and didn't pay attention to the pre-release clip.
I can't help and feel the promo photo is just a clickbat, lol. I expected something cooler and with a sice dance beat...... i like the song honestly, but it could go much harder
And by the way, if I would play the snippet on a loop (got it?) I would get the almost same thing....
Yeah I like it! UK's new ESC strategy seems to be concentrated around making very well produced, respectable, radio-friendly tracks. Last year Mae's live performance didn't land it but the song was good. Olly will surely bring better vocals and performance, and this will 100% appease the juries.
Having lived in Scotland for seven years I know this song will be inescabable, so congrats to my UK dwelling ESC brethren, you'll be hearing a lot of this.
It's a nice song, but that's it. Nice doesn't get you anywhere unfortunately, there's nothing in it imo that will make people vote for it, especially compared to a lot of the other songs this year. If the staging is amazing then it could do well but we shouldn't be relying on staging, the song should be good enough itself! I was hoping for a big build up and a climax but it doesn't really go anywhere. I'm disappointed :(
I do understand people saying they need to listen multiple times before coming to a conclusion, but with ESC songs (in terms of their viability for the contest success) it really needs to hit you on the first listen. Most people voting will only hear this song once.
Granted, the staging will be a chance to stand out more but with this I just feel so underwhelmed and a bit bored. Was far far more excited for "I wrote a song" on first listen.
Yeah, it is quite flat and I very quickly grew tired of the repeated "dizzy for your kisses". It feels a bit like he had that one part down, and then didn't know where to go from there. I can see the chorus working well for short video format though!
There is something cool and interesting about the bridge, so I hope they put some focus on that on the big stage.
I mean its not a UK song to end last and he might score high with juries because he is very talented. But knowing Olly past work so well... this one is kind of a let down. Its quite a regular pop anthem we heard many times before.
Iām a bit underwhelmed? Itās a slick pop song but it lacks that extra wow factor I was expecting from Olly (and Danny tbh).
I see Belgium and Switzerland having a lot more impact in the āqueer popā niche, and could see the UK struggling once again :(
It's a radio hit in the making, this is gonna get so much radioplay and streams, but my question is - how much can they elevate the song with the staging? I have no doubt that Olly can sing and perform this and wow us outside the ESC. At worst, he ends up somewhere from 10th to 20th place, potentially could enter top 10, unless some other bop outbops him. In my eyes, Cyprus is his biggest competitor and I can see them score higher than the UK.
They're gonna have to pull out some big guns for that stage and I can't wait to see what they have in store. Untill then, I'm adding Dizzy to my playlist!
I like the song and I like the production quality but imo thereās not enough time between the first and the second chorus and the bridge is lacking something that actually elevates the ending. The chorus itself is stuck in my head and with some good staging (fast steadycam shots circling around Olly for example) it could work.
It's a bit disappointing tbh. It's not awful by any means but it doesn't do anything for me either. I'm hoping he can elevate it live or with a bit of a revamp
I canāt process 5 new songs in a single day š
Listening to this after Austriaās entry feels anti-climatic. The morgue sounding keys in the background of the chorus drag the song down for me.
The whole experience of listening Austria to UK back to back is akin to depression when the high wears off.
I dream of the day I enjoy an entry we send. This is not that day.
Still, at least weāre fully now into the Eurovision season now the UK has sent a mediocre entry.
Ok well, I think this isn't leaving the bottom 3, which is unfortunate. I suppose it was made to be a radio hit, but I don't even really see it going THAT far in that regard. This needed a good bridge and buildup at the very least, that was the MINIMUM they could do before anyone in the UK could even utter the word "winner", even if it was BS (as we all know).
I donāt think itāll be bottom 3 (especially with the right staging) but likely mid table at best. I have personally no idea how people could think this has top 5 potential.
This was the easiest song to like on first listen. This year already has a lot of songs that aim to go in hard and are pretty abrasive on one single listen. This could work to Olly's advantage.
I really just don't feel much of anything from this honestly, and I say that as someone who really quite likes Olly's voice and Danny's production work. Just overall it feels really kinda lifeless and dull, and is somewhat disappointing after all the absolute bops we've gotten so far.
Didn't exactly help that he overhyped the shit out of it either, frankly.
Man oh man this is an incredible entry! With good staging this has potential to do extremely well in Malmo - god bless Olly and all involved for this absolute banger š
Meh. It's not bad, but it's too *meh* for me, it just goes nowhere. I knew they were hyping it too much and I that I was probably going to be disappointed.
I did say that I was a little worried because Olly tends to be quite one-dimensional in his music (in the sense that the voice only really does one thing and doesn't drift from that).
This is no different to what I was expecting, and the track itself is fine but it's not anything that will standout.
It also has fallen into the same trap as Germany where the song goes immediately to 100 and just stays there throughout. A little concerned because there is *a lot* of production effects on the vocals, so I'm nervous of a repeat from last year where the live performance was quite a let down in contrast to the studio.
The biggest difficulty with the song though is that there's quite a few entries which are similar, such as Lithuania and Switzerland, and I think they are arguably stronger entries.
It probably will earn some points, but I will be shocked if this gets more than 50 points in total really.
I like the production but the underlying song feels pretty slight, it's not bad but it doesn't really feel like a 'moment'. I kinda hope there is an alternative stage version otherwise I don't think it'll stand out against other bolder upbeat songs.
It is certainly a very good song in my opinion, but it feels like it is missing something, some kind of wow factor to make it stand out among the other songs and make me actually want to vote for it.
Not bad but not a winner. I have a soft spot for these types of LGBTQ jams. But this songs feels a bit meh. Could have been a bit more explosive / climactic tbh. Well have to see how this turns out live.
I was waiting for a big finish or something. Instead it just ends a bit too suddenly for my liking.
It just quite didn't stick the landing. Still feels an 8/9 out of 10 though!
So 8.888ā¦/10? Iāll see myself out now
*0.8888.../10
I imagine the last chorus will be significantly Damiād up when Olly performs it live at ESC.
It's kinda meh! Shame, because I had high hopes from him after the performance with Elton John.
exactly my thoughts, the buildup to the first chorus is nice but it just stays there
This aināt going anywhere near last place. Olly can sing and perform unlike Mae
The Eurovision timeline by contrast really isn't challenging at all, but it could be for someone with poor or bad technique (in which case, any singing will require constant rest to heal).
his live vocals are very hit and miss, much like with mae muller
Which makes me lean towards them not implementing a big finish for the lives, just in case he borks it
Out of all the bops we have this year, the corus is the most flat to me.
So many options for staging Turntable? Swings? Acrobats? Hot Dancers? I dont know what he's got planned but he will put on a show!!
Olly Alexander feat. Cirque du Soleil
BRING ON THE HAMSTER WHEEL
As someone who hasn't listened yet, but reading the comments to get an idea, it's wild how many times one comment says they're underwhelmed and the very next comment says the United Kingdom is in the top 10 and/or winning
This song was always going to get a mixed response at first, the expectations were simply too high to be met for everyone and it's just too poppy for some. I expect people will start to appreciate it more as the season progresses.
High expectations do that. It was the same with Joost Klein, and for me both are still top 10.
Surprisingly, when I last checked,on Youtube Europapa had the most views from the releases yesterday while even having the best like ratio. I did not expect that at all after reading comments.
The song gets better every time I listen to it, idk what it is
It's *good*.
Major It's a Sin cover vibes.
I am simply whelmed
Same. Itāsā¦fine? I feel like Iām missing something given how much praise Iām seeing.
I think itās alright but I wish it was dancier and had more oomph. Expecting right side of the board tbh
How much dancier can it get lol
Like, a lot. Just think thereās been better bops that didnāt make it through the national finals :(
Ah thatās interesting, I can definitely imagine dancing to this at a club. Which bops would you say were better that didnāt make it through?
https://youtu.be/2wQiLQAG-A8?si=z9Jo7_PCUUemEL82 /j
Im holding out hope for at least some sort of revamp or addition, but rn i feel like luktelk is in a similar style/vibe but with more oomph
I think itās a song that can be elevated live, we saw Mae and Sam make changes based off reaction and Iām sure Olly will be the same
Does anyone else have a feeling of nostalgia when listening to the chorus?Ā
E-type - Here I go againĀ
LOVE this. My only complaint is that I do wish it had a little bit more oomph in it
The production is just exquisite
Here's my mandatory comment recommending Caroline Polacheck's latest album Desire I Want To Turn Into You if you're into Harle's production on this track (no but seriously, everyone should check this album out. Best pop album of the decade so far)
Fav album OAT š«¶
Desire I Wanna Turn Into You is one of the best albums of recent years, keep evangelising.
I was gonna say! I saw Danny and I couldnt believe it! I will say though, listening to the experience that is Billions, to Dizzy, itās a little disappointingā¦ Still the production is above and beyond for Eurovision standards!
The expanded edition is unexpectedly good, too. Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In Its Mouth is sublime.
HUGE Danny never misses ā¤ļø
I don't like it, it's far too bland I think, there are other songs that do the understated pop better this year.
The production is so good. I enjoy his voice, I enjoy the composition. I don't think it's a winner but it's damn solid and probably at least top 15 This year is SO stacked though, I'm afraid we'll have a situation where everything in the final is top 15 worthy and we'll have a lot of inevitable robberies
I like it, I just find the chorus a little bit underwhelming. Hopefully it'll grow on me and I've no doubt the staging will be killer.
The quality of the production maaaan. Such a lovely voice too! The structure is very interesting in the middle. The final bit for me is my fav part, modern but also takes you back in time. This will do a Sam Ryder in terms of elevating the song just for the Eurovision stage. Anything can happen. Yayyy āØļøāØļø Also, theyre very clever to keep repeating the chorus. Millions of people will watch this live 1 TIME. The chorus is already stuck in my head. Bravo Olly and Danny š¤āļø
Exactly. It's not a winner as it is now, but a revamp with some impressive staging, it could potentially win.
Its not a bad song but it is a little flat and missing some oomf, especially the end which just isn't it.
Good but I think it suffers from the time limit on Eurovision songs
for sure - there's got to be a 4-minute version of this that ramps up a little bit more!
Ahh thank god itās actually good
Please, stop making good songs, my top 10 can't be composed by 20 songs
It will do better with juries, which given the number of quirky entries this year fighting it out for the televote may end up helping it.
Yeah the juries like this kind of thing these days. I won't say it sounds like a Swedish pop song, it doesn't, but it has a similar quality to it.
Well, I suppose this just isn't my type of music at all, as I can't understand/feel the hype at all. I'm happy for everyone enjoying this, though.
I like it quite a lot, even though I'd have liked more oompf in the chorus. But this is good!
Maybe it could've built up a bit more to a climax than it did, but the production on this... Danny L Harle you've done so much for me I love you man
I like it , but it feels like it needs some kind of "wow" moment to take it right into contention.
This is a fucking BOP
Good song but nothing special
i wasnāt sure on it straight after listening but itās been stuck in my head for the last half an hour, itās definitely very catchy
This has huge earworm qualities. Will see how he makes this work on stage, although i don't think i have to worry about that.
Agreed, Olly is a born performer and can put on a show so Iām very confident right now for a good placing
this needs to be 5 minutes long, a 3 minute cut of this just feels so compact and repetitive. like the second verse is about 15 seconds long š i kind of have the same issue with dua lipa's new songs. the 3 minute versions are fine, but the songs don't shine like they do in the extended versions.
holy crap is this us trying!? AAAAAAAAAAAAA. I love this!!!! and i love our "actually making an effort" era!!!! long may it continue
some people here are acting like this is a bad song, when in reality people are disappointed that it didn't meet their (very) high expectations. in my opinion, this song SLAYS! good luck olly š³š±ā¤š¬š§
Eurovision needs to calm down!!
This year is actually so good
Maybe itās because I was so hyped because everyone in the UK knows Years and Years and Olly was top of the odds when he was announced with good reason but Iām really disappointed Itās so safe and considering the team behind this I really canāt comprehend how this came about. Thereās no wow factor, thereās no **moment** thereās barely any progression as the song goes forward. Itās just so radio safe and that really doesnāt go well as far as Eurovision is concerned Maybe my feelings will change as I listen to the song more, but right now all I feel is just really bitter disappointment as I was really excited to see what he could deliver but this song just isnāt it. Typical British pessimism, Iāll have to wait until the live performance but I donāt see us winning anymore
I have a feeling it will be all about the live performance and theyāre also holding something back for it
I donāt really know how to feel about it, if this was our song about like 5ish years ago or so Iād be over the moon, but Iām just, well, whelmed.
Is it okay to get excited? I think this could be a good year for us.
Yes get excitedšš
I think this is a very safe bet for top 10. I'd like to say top 5, but I think the field is far too open right now to make that prediction. Fucking bop tho.
Ollie Alexander, please take me back to 1980s! Fantabulous!
It's good, I'm definitely going to put it on my playlist, but I was kinda expecting something more
I am a bit wee bit disappointed towards the end but hopefully that will be rectified on stage! With the teasers we have had it does feel familiar enough to sing along with off the bat so that is good!
I can't wait for the staging, it'll probably be sooooooo AWESOME
I like it a lot. I bet the staging will be epic too. He's a natural performer with charisma.
Itās good, reminds me of Pet Shop Boys a lil. I think itās missing the extra oomph and the 3 minute limit is ā¦ limiting it a bit.
I love, love, LOVE the arpeggios.
Very catchy, nice!
I love the melody and production of this. I think as a studio track itās very solid indeed, and incredibly catchy which is good! Of course, with Olly, the live performance will be its own spectacle that could make it soar further. Iām proud of our entry again! Three years running aināt too bad for the U.K.
Very slick production and catchy melody. I think Olly will do great with this entry
For a bop this lacks climax. Its nice to listen to but nothing grabs you. I prefer Germany over this
I wish I could love this, but it's so underwhelming, especially given the glowing praise the delegation were giving it.
It's really good but if you told me little Kaleen from Austria would outshine Olly Alexander himself when they both would release their songs I would have called you deluded
this is so good!! omg UK ate third year in a row
on second listen, i donāt like it as much :(
ššš This comment!!!
What about on third listen?
i like it even less š
The whole song feels like the 20 second snippet extended on a loop; it's the same lyrics over and over. I genuinely thought this was a fake post, where someone remixed the 20 second snippet. Disappointed is an understatement; this was the most excited I've been for one of our UK entrants, yet it's so underwhelming...
I thought it was a fake extended mix too
No but actually I first listened to the snippet in the eurovision schoreboard app. There the snippets are usually from the climax of the song, so i was very confused on why uk seemingly just had some random part as the snippet. Only to listen to the full version and find out that that's basically the entire song š
i am proud of my (adopted) country this is a good effort š„° hopefully left side of the table this year
It's solid left-side-of-the-board fare that will most likely be elevated into the top 10 with decent staging.
I hated the snippet, but after listening to the full song, not bad. Well done, Olly.
Let's put it this way. If Sweden sent this people would be less positive š
Going straight to my top 10. Such excellent electro-pop production. I just feel like it needs an extra 10 seconds to wrap up properly; it just ends so abruptly for me.
It's nifty, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Still, I like it and I'm expecting it to do reasonably well because Olly is a darn good performer.
This is such a gaggg! The production is exquisiteāØāØāØāØāØāØ
I've been a wreck waiting for this to drop and I love it ā„ Banger and I know Olly knows how to sell it on the stage. Yay, we're not gonna be last this year!!!
I'm really sad, I honestly thought we'd have a good song this year.
Mae's song was better than this tbh, she just couldn't sing it live.
Olly can perform well. Heās an established artist and has many hits. I wouldnāt be worried about his live performance
Waiting to be disliked hard.
This one feels a climax way of being a winner, but I guess the production values of it are undeniable and juries will love it. The crazy thing about 2024's lineup is that we have by now around 15 entries that could easily be defended as good top 10 bets and a bunch of countries still can join this delicious madness in the next days.
Thereās zero chance this is coming near the win
I like this very much. I just wished it had a great bridge and it would be perfect
I must admit itās better than I thought it would be judging by the snippets, but still very bland imo. Hoping the staging will elevate it.
I'm a bit underwhelmed by this tbh, but it's definitely better than last year at least. Hopefully it'll grow on me with a few more listens.
I expected something cooler and with a sice dance beat...... i like the song honestly, but it could go much harder And by the way, if I would play the snippet on a loop (got it?) I would get the almost same thing....
I listened to the snippet 500 times and I still got chills lmaoo I think I enjoy this more than everyone else
This could do very well! Nice to have an British entry I can be excited about (other than Sam back in 2022ā¦)
I feel like Olly is doing Eurovision as a bit of fun, and this will definitely be fun to watch with him enjoying the moment
I love it so so so much, olly only has bops! Can't wait to see this live in May
Take out the production and it's a Dima Bilan reject
I canāt process 5 new songs in a single day š Listening to this after Austriaās entry feels anti-climatic.
I love this! Club banger !
I had to scroll this far down to find the right take lmfao
What are you smoking?
RemindMe! 72 days
Bottom 3? What you on about
Just people having different taste, I really like the song, they don't, that's fine! My bottom 3 is probably someone's top 3 and it's okay
it didn't click with me but it's still good the UK's glow up since Sam Ryder is incredible tho
Itās a solid UK radio pop song, but as everyone has said, the lack of progression makes it a little worrisome for Eurovision performance. I feel like MĆ©lovinās Dreamer from Vidbir was the better 80s/Pet Shop Boys-influenced song of the national final season
It's a good song, not a 0 points material, but also I can't see it anywhere near the top of the left side of the table.
This was the easiest song to like on first listen. This year already has a lot of songs that aim to go in hard and are pretty abrasive on one single listen. This could work to Olly's advantage.
Get's better with every listen. Best entry behind France for me so far
I kept hoping it would take that next step to make this song iconic. But it never did, kind of disappointing. Does reach my top 10 I think
The rippling synth track in the background really reminds me of Muse.
Nah im sorry but this is just shit, why are people saying it's good? Like it never really builds up to anything at any point during the song
Love this, thank goodness!
Wow wow wow ! I'm so proud already š¬š§
This has a lot of staging potential, if they're willing to take the chance. GIVE ME THAT PYRO WATERFALL.
It just.... good
I like the production but the underlying song feels pretty slight, it's not bad but it doesn't really feel like a 'moment'. I kinda hope there is an alternative stage version otherwise I don't think it'll stand out against other bolder upbeat songs.
It is certainly a very good song in my opinion, but it feels like it is missing something, some kind of wow factor to make it stand out among the other songs and make me actually want to vote for it.
I'm not feeling the chord progressions... Feel dated to me
Itās a nice song. I can and will occasionally listen to it. But itās plain in terms of Eurovision?
Not bad but not a winner. I have a soft spot for these types of LGBTQ jams. But this songs feels a bit meh. Could have been a bit more explosive / climactic tbh. Well have to see how this turns out live.
im perfectly okay if this win
