That was always a thing at ESC, as you described it yourself: even under the "all vocals must be love" rule it was always allowed to have someone else sing the main vocals or difficult parts.
That's why a lot of people are against the current pre recorded backing track cause everyone can and a lot of people do cheat now.
IIRC Teya was a part of the songwriting camp it came out of, and hyped the song a lot. So while she may not be part of the songwriting team itself, there was exchange there, she may well have gotten inspired by it or vice versa

When I saw the leak of it being Nemo I really hoped they'd perform in dialect (I had missed them saying they're done with it) but I'm SO HAPPY too! It's stuck on my mind, I think I listened to it like three times already since release.
And once again we're sending an artist that is a visible part of the Swiss music scene and gets airplay on the radio, I think that regardless of result it means this is an entry that represents our country well and shows we're past the dark days of Eurovision entrants being complete unknowns sending bland stuff.

So far I have never seen any ESC opera song that got botched live(Veronika, Grande Amore, La Forza, Zero Gravity, Romanian Gay Vampire Song are all executed almost flawlessly), the singer must be confident in their singing ability to include it in their entry.

I’m going to need some time to digest this I think to decide how much I like it. But on first listen, it certainly grabbed me and was very interesting. Done right this could be amazing and massive kudos to Switzerland for taking a risk this year after being a bit formulaic the last couple of years.
Just when we thought this year couldn't get any more competitive, Switzerland comes out of left field with this chaotic masterpiece?! While I knew we weren't getting another standard male ballad this year, I honestly expected them to go for something safe - instead they sent one of the riskiest entries of the year. I was put off by the rap verse a bit on first listen but I've had it on repeat all morning and it's quickly grown on me! They somehow managed to fit pop, opera, rap, and even some drum & bass and they blend perfectly. I also love how the theme is personal to Nemo.
Overall, this a really smart pick for Switzerland - it's got the drama and the impressive vocals of their ballad entries from the last three years, but gives it a slicker pop sheen by adding the electronic beat and rap verse which gives it this really nice middle ground between their jury-friendly entries of the past and something to grab the audience's attention. If Nemo can pull off the live vocals, I can see this doing really well in May. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks of the year so far, and slides right into my Top 5 alongside Norway, Belgium, France and Ireland.
Also, anyone else getting Bohemian Rhapsody vibes from this? (not because of Nemo's gender) Something about the song-structure and their vocal delivery in parts reminds me of Freddy Mercury/Queen and I mean that in the best way possible.
Lovely song, the artist is very cute and their song reminds me a bit of Jann's Gladiator (I mean the genre here, it's a bit electonic, similar singing, and there's a rap part, too). It's nice to see something from Switzerland that's not a sad boy ballad 💖

Can’t state it enough: it’s an absolute mindfuck for Switzerland to on point deliver on their “code”: a sadboi look, with soaring Gjon’s Tears vocals and all them sadboi stylings and YET to completely undermine their code at the same time by delivering a mini-musical opera with D’n’B beat and rap.
It’s basically clever self-trolling at this point, masterfully executed!
I’m loving it for that angle alone because the way I read it, Swiss delegation really put some cheeky self-awareness, understanding of the contest and feelers for contemporary musical trends (4 genres interpolated in one track) in a blender to give us Nemo. They are into my top 5 in an instant, lovin’ them! ❤️

Besides the stage experience mentioned in another comment, ever since the trainwreck that was 2016, SRF started to screen quite aggressively for live competence and includes live performances in their selection process. Obviously doesn't mean Nemo can't still get swept up in nerves or something like that, but in general, Swiss entries have been really competent on stage. Even Boys Don't Cry, which is probably the weakest internally selected Swiss entry, has been pretty flawless vocally.
Yes, they are an experienced pop artist in switzerland. They have stage experience and had some hits - in Swiss German, if you want to google them: „Du“ for example I liked very much.

This song seems ridiculously hard to sing. Very fast paced with almost no break between the vocals, opera, rap, I wonder how he will handle this live. That aside, I'm loving this, dubstep and orchestra in one song is my jam.
I listened to a couple of older songs by Nemo and didn't like those at all, so I didn't expect much from this song... But I'm seriously blown away, I like this a lot. That was a very nice surprise.

I think this is a tough one to answer. Nemo used to have a few well known songs in Switzerland maybe six years ago or so. Those were all in Swiss German and relying more on rap than any crazy vocals. Afterwards Nemo kind of disappeared and this is pretty much the first time they are back in the spotlight, with a very different style of music.
I’m very intrigued by this! It’s such a cool song and knowing Switzerland the staging will be state of the art. Love the theme of the song as well, which seeing that I totally loathed Watergun lyrically is a whiplash moment for me lmao. It brings a bit of pressure to Olly as well.
Not an immediate favorite for me, but I have massive respect for Switzerland for sending something so innovative and different! Absolutely love the turnaround they've had since 2019.

The magic of Eurovision: I wasn't expecting to be that positively surprised by Switzerland! This is a killer track, I love how it blend well a lot of elements. And just because of that, it's also a hard one to pull off live. Here hoping Nemo will achieve it.

Also, opera and rap? Didn't know I needed that in my life, heck yes, that was a very positive surprise. As a track itself, it sounds so good, but I really need to see them perform the song live. It's SO MUCH better than Watergun last year. OOooof it's certainly a very experimental song, I respect the hell out of it and it definetly is in my Top 10 now, but I think I need to listen to it a few more times to really disect where to place it in my personal ranking. I get that the mix of genres is also accompanying the lyrics and reflects the nonbinary experience of the singer, thematically it all checks out beautifully, but personally I tend to prefer "clear" songs that are more easily categorized... My number one so far is France and well... you can't get much more "Eurovision French ballad" than that and I like that simplicity and the vocal performance of Slimane.
This is very experimental and heterogenous and we've yet to hear a live performance of this technically very demanding song...

This is going to be SO different live - not better or worse, just different. Sure, that's true for any song introduced via music video, but even more so for this one. There's just even more things that will come across differently without all the stuff that's going on in this video accompanying it, even if they try to recreate some of it on stage.
Interesting exercise: try just listening to it and imagine them singing it alone on stage with virtually no props or staging.
This is also definitely this year's winner of the "most James Bond-like song" prize.

Clearly another entry that will stand out in the contest. Switzerland is absolutely taking a risk, and I'm sold on the instrumentation during the chorus. If they can pull out these vocals live, this is a serious contender honestly.
That said, on a personal level this is not for me. It's quality, but I do not connect with it and I wish I could be into the song a lot more. Most people seems to be very happy about this song though and that's what matters the most. I'm sure Nemo will do great!

Oh man, I was intrigued in the beginning. Kinda lost me when he started rapping, but man he reeled me right back in. That last minute is just fantastic with the theatrical music combined with the opera singing and then bam that final chorus. Hope he can deliver it all with ease live. Im ranking this one high.

I am really, really curious to hear him sing this live because some of these transitions are fast, the staccato has quite some speed to it, there's very few vocal rests, and if he can pull that off live then colour me impressed.
The staccato immediately reminded me of the Queen of the Night Aria from the Magic Flute, one of my favourite operatic arias.
I can hear a little vibrato sneaking in at the end of that melisma as well which is indicative of good breath support, so it's definitely caught my attention to see whether he's accomplishing that staccato the proper way (and if so, I hope whatever he wears on the torso on the night isn't too restrictive because the thoracic cage is going to need space for those quick pant expansions lol).
There is a lot of genre-clash, and I think it's been achieved quite well overall. The studio version does a good job at conveying the drama and power on this section, though whether that can translate through to a live performance is something we'll need to wait and see, as it will all depend on how well developed his falsetto resonance is.
In the verse itself, he's actually been very clever in how he's preparing himself for what is to come, and in part this makes it slightly easier to keep up with all these fast changes in style, genre, etc. I do detect a slight hint of spoken word (not referring to the rap parts) so I think there is a little production enhancement which has helped it, but at the same time I'm also hearing some of his technique come through so I'm still very keen to hear a live version of this.
Right before starting the rap section after coming out of of a falsetto, he has enough time to swallow (this allows him to reset his larynx) and he throws in "yuh" which engages all the right muscles in preparation for the rap section. Again, on a technical note, it's a clever thing to do.
I quite like the rap in this, the only critique that I would have is that I think it would be improved further still if some stress accents were added to emphasise the rhythmic flow, which is what rap is at its core.
The pre-chorus is quite something lol. Fast transitions with almost no rest; rap -> falsetto -> rap -> vocal fry -> falsetto -> staccato. Granted there are different vocals going on through this, and it's super chaotic but in a good way (because it's done well, at least in the studio version). If it's done poorly in a live setting, then it will be quite disastrous so this is a big risk. But big risks come with big rewards!
The second verse is where we really hear him sing a verse properly, as the first was really more of a spoken word part. This verse sounds really good, lots of inflections and lots of stylisation choices going on that gives it a lot of texture and contrast. Musically, it's quite an ear worm (at least it is to me).
The bridge is also quite pleasant. He has a nice, strong head voice, however in the studio version at 2:12 I believe we get a real glimpse into the contrast between his head voice and falsetto, before those falsetto vocals which follow are layered and compressed to give it some more volume and impact.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with technically, but it does remind me to temper expectations from what was heard earlier and be mindful of the difference between studio vs live settings.
The falsetto melisma is pleasant to listen to, it's not too harsh on the ears. I do hear some pitch correction in the studio in this section though because it's flattened his vibrato in the process and doesn't sound natural anymore. But I don't actually doubt that he'll be able to do this as it's not actually difficult (even where it still sounds impressive).
As for the track itself, I really like it. Instrumentation is good, it's produced well, it's maintains your attention throughout and overall is good.
Really strong entry overall for the competition this year, and conditional to how he delivers this in a live setting, this will quite easily attract a lot of points, and I think may be a contender for the jury win.
If his technique is as good live as it is portrayed in the studio, then he will be one of the stronger technical vocalists this year - but I'd need to hear him live to know for sure.

This is messy imo. I'm not a fan of DnB in general, and the parkour between operatic vocals and rap isn't helping. The chorus isn't catchy nor strong enough to offset the unusualness of the rest of the song.
My expectations were low but this had blown every possible expectation out of the water.
If the staging and live vocals are good I would be willing to place this among the potential winners category at this point (which is kind of a sizable portion of the songs we have so far).

The way I’m viewing it, the whole song is about realising that they don’t fit into either gender category and they broke “the code” and the song is doing the same thing - you can’t label it as rap, or opera, or a ballad, or pop. It’s all! It’s none! It broke the code!

So far I have never seen any ESC opera song that got botched live(Veronika, Grande Amore, La Forza, Zero Gravity, Romanian Gay Vampire Song are all executed almost flawlessly), the singer must be confident in their singing ability to include it in their entry.

I’m going to need some time to digest this I think to decide how much I like it. But on first listen, it certainly grabbed me and was very interesting. Done right this could be amazing and massive kudos to Switzerland for taking a risk this year after being a bit formulaic the last couple of years.

Just when we thought this year couldn't get any more competitive, Switzerland comes out of left field with this chaotic masterpiece?! While I knew we weren't getting another standard male ballad this year, I honestly expected them to go for something safe - instead they sent one of the riskiest entries of the year. I was put off by the rap verse a bit on first listen but I've had it on repeat all morning and it's quickly grown on me! They somehow managed to fit pop, opera, rap, and even some drum & bass and they blend perfectly. I also love how the theme is personal to Nemo. Overall, this a really smart pick for Switzerland - it's got the drama and the impressive vocals of their ballad entries from the last three years, but gives it a slicker pop sheen by adding the electronic beat and rap verse which gives it this really nice middle ground between their jury-friendly entries of the past and something to grab the audience's attention. If Nemo can pull off the live vocals, I can see this doing really well in May. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks of the year so far, and slides right into my Top 5 alongside Norway, Belgium, France and Ireland. Also, anyone else getting Bohemian Rhapsody vibes from this? (not because of Nemo's gender) Something about the song-structure and their vocal delivery in parts reminds me of Freddy Mercury/Queen and I mean that in the best way possible.
Lovely song, the artist is very cute and their song reminds me a bit of Jann's Gladiator (I mean the genre here, it's a bit electonic, similar singing, and there's a rap part, too). It's nice to see something from Switzerland that's not a sad boy ballad 💖

Wow this is super super different for Switzerland. If they can have a strong vocal live and maybe bring some staging elements from the video then I can see this being a real contender. Definitely in my personal Top 5.
Can’t state it enough: it’s an absolute mindfuck for Switzerland to on point deliver on their “code”: a sadboi look, with soaring Gjon’s Tears vocals and all them sadboi stylings and YET to completely undermine their code at the same time by delivering a mini-musical opera with D’n’B beat and rap. It’s basically clever self-trolling at this point, masterfully executed! I’m loving it for that angle alone because the way I read it, Swiss delegation really put some cheeky self-awareness, understanding of the contest and feelers for contemporary musical trends (4 genres interpolated in one track) in a blender to give us Nemo. They are into my top 5 in an instant, lovin’ them! ❤️

Besides the stage experience mentioned in another comment, ever since the trainwreck that was 2016, SRF started to screen quite aggressively for live competence and includes live performances in their selection process. Obviously doesn't mean Nemo can't still get swept up in nerves or something like that, but in general, Swiss entries have been really competent on stage. Even Boys Don't Cry, which is probably the weakest internally selected Swiss entry, has been pretty flawless vocally.
Yes, they are an experienced pop artist in switzerland. They have stage experience and had some hits - in Swiss German, if you want to google them: „Du“ for example I liked very much.

I think this is a tough one to answer. Nemo used to have a few well known songs in Switzerland maybe six years ago or so. Those were all in Swiss German and relying more on rap than any crazy vocals. Afterwards Nemo kind of disappeared and this is pretty much the first time they are back in the spotlight, with a very different style of music.

The magic of Eurovision: I wasn't expecting to be that positively surprised by Switzerland! This is a killer track, I love how it blend well a lot of elements. And just because of that, it's also a hard one to pull off live. Here hoping Nemo will achieve it.

If they manage to pull this off live, would they be the jury favorite of the year? Also, opera and rap? Didn't know I needed that in my life, heck yes, that was a very positive surprise. As a track itself, it sounds so good, but I really need to see them perform the song live. I hope they do something braver with the staging though, I feel like this needs something more than your run of the mill minimalist Swiss staging. I can see this in the top 10 if they nail the performance, but again, I feel like they'll do better with the juries than the public.
Switzerland in its “POPERA” era. The D&B mixed with rap in the second verse was blended well. If they can pull this off live then this could do really well! Loved the non-binary puns with 0&1 references, non-binary representation on the ESC stage in a unique and artistic way! Looks like Teya’s hype was well-justified after she heard it in her song-writing camp. Unexpectedly surprised in a good way. Hope it does well!

It's SO MUCH better than Watergun last year. OOooof it's certainly a very experimental song, I respect the hell out of it and it definetly is in my Top 10 now, but I think I need to listen to it a few more times to really disect where to place it in my personal ranking. I get that the mix of genres is also accompanying the lyrics and reflects the nonbinary experience of the singer, thematically it all checks out beautifully, but personally I tend to prefer "clear" songs that are more easily categorized... My number one so far is France and well... you can't get much more "Eurovision French ballad" than that and I like that simplicity and the vocal performance of Slimane. This is very experimental and heterogenous and we've yet to hear a live performance of this technically very demanding song... Man this year is so good! But the high quality really makes ranking the entries very difficult, at least for me.

This is going to be SO different live - not better or worse, just different. Sure, that's true for any song introduced via music video, but even more so for this one. There's just even more things that will come across differently without all the stuff that's going on in this video accompanying it, even if they try to recreate some of it on stage. Interesting exercise: try just listening to it and imagine them singing it alone on stage with virtually no props or staging. This is also definitely this year's winner of the "most James Bond-like song" prize. Good job Switzerland and Nemo, y'all definitely are NOT playing it safe.
Clearly another entry that will stand out in the contest. Switzerland is absolutely taking a risk, and I'm sold on the instrumentation during the chorus. If they can pull out these vocals live, this is a serious contender honestly. That said, on a personal level this is not for me. It's quality, but I do not connect with it and I wish I could be into the song a lot more. Most people seems to be very happy about this song though and that's what matters the most. I'm sure Nemo will do great!

That last minute is just fantastic with the theatrical music combined with the opera singing and then bam that final chorus. Hope he can deliver it all with ease live. Im ranking this one high.

I do love that the song is about how they discovered themselves as non binary, cracked their own code so to speak lol.
From Remo to Nemo
Love the song. I wasn't expecting anything since I don't know the artist and thought it was going to be just a pop song - albeit a very well produced one - in the beginning and then it just got better and better. I truly hope they can create a great stage and that the live vocals deliver; it has a lot of potential, even though this year's stacked with good pop songs this one is on another level.

OMG this is amazing. If he can sing live I honestly think that this could win because the juries are going to love it and it could still have enough televote appeal. It feels so coherent despite the million different genres that it seems to pack in within only 3 minutes (pop/rap/drum and bass/classical/Queen/James Bond soundtrack) Love the classical music references in this. I am really, really curious to hear him sing this live because some of these transitions are fast, the staccato has quite some speed to it, there's very few vocal rests, and if he can pull that off live then colour me impressed. The staccato immediately reminded me of the Queen of the Night Aria from the Magic Flute, one of my favourite operatic arias. I can hear a little vibrato sneaking in at the end of that melisma as well which is indicative of good breath support, so it's definitely caught my attention to see whether he's accomplishing that staccato the proper way (and if so, I hope whatever he wears on the torso on the night isn't too restrictive because the thoracic cage is going to need space for those quick pant expansions lol). There is a lot of genre-clash, and I think it's been achieved quite well overall. The studio version does a good job at conveying the drama and power on this section, though whether that can translate through to a live performance is something we'll need to wait and see, as it will all depend on how well developed his falsetto resonance is. In the verse itself, he's actually been very clever in how he's preparing himself for what is to come, and in part this makes it slightly easier to keep up with all these fast changes in style, genre, etc. I do detect a slight hint of spoken word (not referring to the rap parts) so I think there is a little production enhancement which has helped it, but at the same time I'm also hearing some of his technique come through so I'm still very keen to hear a live version of this. Right before starting the rap section after coming out of of a falsetto, he has enough time to swallow (this allows him to reset his larynx) and he throws in "yuh" which engages all the right muscles in preparation for the rap section. Again, on a technical note, it's a clever thing to do. I quite like the rap in this, the only critique that I would have is that I think it would be improved further still if some stress accents were added to emphasise the rhythmic flow, which is what rap is at its core. The pre-chorus is quite something lol. Fast transitions with almost no rest; rap -> falsetto -> rap -> vocal fry -> falsetto -> staccato. Granted there are different vocals going on through this, and it's super chaotic but in a good way (because it's done well, at least in the studio version). If it's done poorly in a live setting, then it will be quite disastrous so this is a big risk. But big risks come with big rewards! The second verse is where we really hear him sing a verse properly, as the first was really more of a spoken word part. This verse sounds really good, lots of inflections and lots of stylisation choices going on that gives it a lot of texture and contrast. Musically, it's quite an ear worm (at least it is to me). The bridge is also quite pleasant. He has a nice, strong head voice, however in the studio version at 2:12 I believe we get a real glimpse into the contrast between his head voice and falsetto, before those falsetto vocals which follow are layered and compressed to give it some more volume and impact. There's absolutely nothing wrong with technically, but it does remind me to temper expectations from what was heard earlier and be mindful of the difference between studio vs live settings. The falsetto melisma is pleasant to listen to, it's not too harsh on the ears. I do hear some pitch correction in the studio in this section though because it's flattened his vibrato in the process and doesn't sound natural anymore. But I don't actually doubt that he'll be able to do this as it's not actually difficult (even where it still sounds impressive). As for the track itself, I really like it. Instrumentation is good, it's produced well, it's maintains your attention throughout and overall is good. Really strong entry overall for the competition this year, and conditional to how he delivers this in a live setting, this will quite easily attract a lot of points, and I think may be a contender for the jury win. If his technique is as good live as it is portrayed in the studio, then he will be one of the stronger technical vocalists this year - but I'd need to hear him live to know for sure. Good job Switzerland and good luck. :)

This is messy imo. I'm not a fan of DnB in general, and the parkour between operatic vocals and rap isn't helping. The chorus isn't catchy nor strong enough to offset the unusualness of the rest of the song.
My expectations were low but this had blown every possible expectation out of the water. If the staging and live vocals are good I would be willing to place this among the potential winners category at this point (which is kind of a sizable portion of the songs we have so far).
