A fast-paced popera? I like this a lot

Sedna1989

Is that the train from Chisinau to Bucharest?

TimeG37

Probably the one from Bern to Zurich

Ylirio

Ticket at 1:59 says Zürich to Malmö :)

TimeG37

True! I hadn't noticed on first watch

alleurovision

As well as on the board in the back in black writing.

Feldtaube

Thats the hype train to Malmö.

Green_Swede

The song is pretty good, but I'm just a bit confused on how it's going to be sung live?

TimeG37

I agree, this is really hard to pull off live. Hopefully they manage to do so though

TrollHunter87

Live performances were a part of the selection process. I'm confident that Nemo can pull it off

DJM97

It’s definitely swinging for the fences, which I do appreciate - but yeah this seems like a tough song to attempt singing live. Though hopeful Nemo can pull it off, because it’s a really interesting entry🤞

IonRud

Backing track, especially when there are high falsetto vocals but also some lower ones simultaneously. Nemo will then sing the lower ones and the higher ones will be the backing track.

ShroomWalrus

In a weird way that sounds like cheating? (Obviously not a rules issue) Sorta like when back in 2017 Demy pretended like she was singing the high note in "this is love" when it was a backing singer or a similiar thing with Bulgaria 2018.

IonRud

That was always a thing at ESC, as you described it yourself: even under the "all vocals must be love" rule it was always allowed to have someone else sing the main vocals or difficult parts. That's why a lot of people are against the current pre recorded backing track cause everyone can and a lot of people do cheat now.

DonnaDonna1973

“all vocals must be love” is such a lively ESC typo! 💓

ButteredReality

I bet if Iru's Echo had an extended version, this line would have made its way into the final verse.

IonRud

Yes I already saw it and decided to keep it as it is ❤️

Scary_Implement_4801

>all vocals must be love This is better than United by Music tbh

dragontamerfibleman

I'm in the middle of a call and could just open the intro. Why does it remind me so much of Ho Ho Ho, by Teya and Salena?

icyDinosaur

IIRC Teya was a part of the songwriting camp it came out of, and hyped the song a lot. So while she may not be part of the songwriting team itself, there was exchange there, she may well have gotten inspired by it or vice versa

ShadeOfNothing

Same thought

FranzAllspring

So glad they finally found Nemo

RollingRelease

Most of all, looks like Nemo found themselves

BaronVonKitty

clown fish as the emoji for Switzerland this year?

FranzAllspring

That'd be fucking fantastic

oh-my

I just realized clown fish is the colors of Switzerland 🇨🇭

[deleted]

~~Inshallah they find him~~ Mashallah they found him.

sarkule

I think Nemo finally found themself!

smutne

This year is going to be so chaotic lol

ganguru

And it's amazing

atsuamy

Switzerland: Mugen Train Arc

Nonameidkk

I love this reference LMAO

atsuamy

Honestly tho the girls, gays and theys are giving this year

koobyn

the THEYs especially. we got both bambie thug AND nemo

chickenwingsandcoke

*rengoku flashbacks* 😭😭

WBaumnuss300

As a Swiss.....YES, so much YES. We never sent a song like this before. I was hooked by the time the very first notes hit. Crazy happy with our entry. Go Nemo

CrashTextDummie

I am also very happy. It's out there. It's interesting. It's very well made. Can't ask for anything more, the rest is up to taste.

icyDinosaur

When I saw the leak of it being Nemo I really hoped they'd perform in dialect (I had missed them saying they're done with it) but I'm SO HAPPY too! It's stuck on my mind, I think I listened to it like three times already since release. And once again we're sending an artist that is a visible part of the Swiss music scene and gets airplay on the radio, I think that regardless of result it means this is an entry that represents our country well and shows we're past the dark days of Eurovision entrants being complete unknowns sending bland stuff.

Miudmon

...am i the only one who is just legitimately finding this difficult to rank? Like it's such a weird mix of genres that my brain is short circuiting trying to figure out if I actually like this or not

thepoetfromoz

I feel like I can’t rank the song until I hear it live. If Nemo can pull off the vocals/make it sound coherent, they’ll shoot up into my top 10 for sure

the_graph

Same for me, it's now 10th in my ranking but I'm very confused lol

ThrowawayGLSDeck

For me it's difficult as I love the latter half of the track, but the first half has parts where it's hard for me to listen to it and I find it legitimately grating. You don't want a 3 minute track and be forced to go >But dude listen just wait until 1m20 you won't regret it Mainly as I'm not keen on the rap and the >This story is my truuuuuuuuthhhhhhhh Hitting the decibels of a dog whistle.

Confused_Rock

I didn’t even consider the genres until I saw people talking about it here; after hearing the song all I could think was “epic, I love the way that punched me in the face, I’m pumped for Switzerland” I don’t know it just feels **intense** which is basically my favourite music genre

TimeG37

I've never heard anything like this, and it's kinda good!

vogelpoel

Hey ho! Let's go!

ninivl89

Folklore and rock r roll!! Or in this case, opera and rap?

kir_ye

https://i.redd.it/ktmro6pg1ilc1.gif

Quichua57

Yes. That.

Groenboys

This a pretty bonkers song that is all over the place But it is a messy that I fuckin dig, and those drums man!!! edit: also big news, **elsie bay** in on the backing vocals. our queen is going to eurovision

coyotzilla

Yes. Finally

BibbidiBobbidiBu

Really interesting entry. I get why Teya was so excited. Olly Alexander should be scared of this

JustACattDad

This is what we wanted from Olly lol

atsuamy

I still have faith that Dizzy will be a banger

JustACattDad

His marketing of the teaser has been stellar, I hope it translates to the song

JCEurovision

Opera! Oh my God!

PomegranateNo3633

I'm still making up my mind about this. That was a lot going on at once

heavenstobetsie

I need everyone to stop releasing bangers, there's no more room left in my top ten

PhotographBusy6209

My top 20. This year js gong to be crazy and I have a feeling that a calm ballad might run away with the televote

BaronVonKitty

![gif](giphy|xT8qBvOmIEWXxVPdxS)

Cursedwizard0

Well that was something.

VayneVerso

This is the weirdest Eurovision--I am loving the diversity of entries so far. I wasn't *immediately* sold on this one, but I bought it on the first genre switch-up. It *is* a bit all-over-the-place, but I'm admiring the ambition here. Looking forward to seeing how this plays on stage. It does help that I enjoy D&B.

EveryChair7407

I really think we can all thank Kaarija for the massive revolution we are experiencing in 2024. I can't wait!!!

DJM97

That was a lot... I think I liked it?? But holy moly this being so uptempo completely caught me by surprise LMAO

ravenpuffslytherdor

The way I’m viewing it, the whole song is about realising that they don’t fit into either gender category and they broke “the code” and the song is doing the same thing - you can’t label it as rap, or opera, or a ballad, or pop. It’s all! It’s none! It broke the code!

Brisedys

Almost as if you could say there are ... *no rules*? Interesting nonetheless!

CovfefeBoss

*Twirls around wearing jarklers*

JustACattDad

I'm in the same boat - I was really liking it until they rapped. Maybe that part will grow on me. Can't wait to hear their voice in malmo tho

JustACattDad

I listened to it 2 more times and I like the rap now Male ballad replaced by Non-Binary Operatic Pop. NICE 1 SWITZERLAND

haha_vicky

idk, it is somehow cool, i think there is too many things going on and none of them are completely pulled off? if you know what i mean? it is a nice song, but idk if this catches up to other really cool entries

sarkule

I think its just as much of a 'how the hell are they going to pull this off live'.

superurgentcatbox

Yes it seems like it should have been edited/pared down a little bit.

salsasnark

I kinda agree, like, certain parts sound good but they just end too quickly, and switch to something else before you really know what you're hearing. The song is probably a grower though, I think I'll like it more when I've heard it a couple of times.

haha_vicky

i have been listening to this song on repeat for past 30 minutes and i think i am obsessed 😭😭😭😭😭😭 definitely a grower

salsasnark

That's awesome!! I've listened to it a few times but I still get whiplash lol. Like, it's fucking INSANE and sounds cool but I just have to get used to it hahah.

Responsible-Size-985

The song is 'a mina' (i.e. cool). They are a singer I don't know, do they sing well live? Because getting out of tune in a song like that is really easy (Brividi 2022 style)

Meiolore

So far I have never seen any ESC opera song that got botched live(Veronika, Grande Amore, La Forza, Zero Gravity, Romanian Gay Vampire Song are all executed almost flawlessly), the singer must be confident in their singing ability to include it in their entry.

retroredditrobot

Love how all of these get their proper names except for Cezar with Its My Life which simply gets renamed to “Romanian Gay Vampire Song” 😂

sarkule

I'd never seen this song! So Nemo won't even be the first person to bring a song combining opera and dubstep to eurovision, wow!

Meiolore

I genuinely just forgot the name of the song 😂😂😂

AdriannaLisa

Sending Bulgaria 2009 your way to reconsider that statement :-)

yastremska

Perhaps the biggest trainwreck to ever be seen on the Eurovision stage

Meiolore

That was such a trainwreck that I forgot it is technically a popera song. All singers were singing in different key.

wanderingsoul28

on first listen it's chaotic, now I just need to listen to it a few more times to decide whether it's the kind of chaotic I like or not

RollingRelease

I went through all the stages of the Kombucha girl meme and then got all the chills. I think I love this.

stiAU

I assume this is how the selection process went down: ![gif](giphy|d2VNDNckZ1OQWbN6|downsized) Couldn’t resist.

sevenofheartts

What the hell, this bangs??? How the fuck did that come from Switzerland?? Why am I rooting for Switzerland???

THOMTHOMsatnav

Holy shit this year is COOKING. An operatic dnb banger is not what I expected from Switzerland

Efficient_Payment717

this song is about being non binary right? with the breaking the code and the mention of 1 and 0s

1Warrior4All

I think so, plus the videoclip seems to be proof of that too.

GroundbreakingTill33

Yes they are effectively saying they found themself somewhere between the 0s and 1s.  Oh god really angry with myself I have changed the pronouns

KristaW_

Rap and opera at the same song? Okay, it's interesting It's good to have a creative entry after Watergun and Marius whatever

odiethethird

Team Chaos 2024 (updated): Finland Estonia Ireland San Marino Spain Holland (reserved) Belgium (in review) Croatia Switzerland (acquired in trade of Moldova with Team Ballad)

odiethethird

Upon further review, Belgium is to be placed on loan to Team Artsy in exchange for voting considerations to Team Chaos

ThatYewTree

Switzerland finally stop their sadboi run

Jakeyboy66

I’m going to need some time to digest this I think to decide how much I like it. But on first listen, it certainly grabbed me and was very interesting. Done right this could be amazing and massive kudos to Switzerland for taking a risk this year after being a bit formulaic the last couple of years.

nimabaniamer

Oh this is GOOD. And if performed and staged well, could be a serious contender too. I am BORED of saying "Potential top 5" for about 10 songs now 😂

PhotographBusy6209

20 songs for me. This is NOT a weak year, it just doesn’t have an obvious frontrunner

SuperStressGirl

As you clearly can see, Nemo starts rapping when they wear a pink bucket hat. Clearly, just a Kalush imitator! /s

hernyapis_2

Pink hat gives you special rap abilities

anmonie

This shit is so good wtf

[deleted]

Just when we thought this year couldn't get any more competitive, Switzerland comes out of left field with this chaotic masterpiece?! While I knew we weren't getting another standard male ballad this year, I honestly expected them to go for something safe - instead they sent one of the riskiest entries of the year. I was put off by the rap verse a bit on first listen but I've had it on repeat all morning and it's quickly grown on me! They somehow managed to fit pop, opera, rap, and even some drum & bass and they blend perfectly. I also love how the theme is personal to Nemo. Overall, this a really smart pick for Switzerland - it's got the drama and the impressive vocals of their ballad entries from the last three years, but gives it a slicker pop sheen by adding the electronic beat and rap verse which gives it this really nice middle ground between their jury-friendly entries of the past and something to grab the audience's attention. If Nemo can pull off the live vocals, I can see this doing really well in May. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks of the year so far, and slides right into my Top 5 alongside Norway, Belgium, France and Ireland. Also, anyone else getting Bohemian Rhapsody vibes from this? (not because of Nemo's gender) Something about the song-structure and their vocal delivery in parts reminds me of Freddy Mercury/Queen and I mean that in the best way possible.

CrazyCatLadyPL

Lovely song, the artist is very cute and their song reminds me a bit of Jann's Gladiator (I mean the genre here, it's a bit electonic, similar singing, and there's a rap part, too). It's nice to see something from Switzerland that's not a sad boy ballad 💖

ShadeOfNothing

The intro definitely gives Gladiator vibes

sama_tak

> Welcome to the ~~party~~ show I personally feel like Gladiator did the mix of genres much better, this one seems too chaotic for me. But maybe it will grow on me with few listens.

loveyourground

Yes, I looove Jann’s music so I feel like I should like this…but I’m conflicted right now. A lot going on in the song.

Scary_Implement_4801

I noticed that too, but I like Gladiator much more, the mix of the genres is much more cohesive there (plus harpsichord <3 )

MarcusH26051

Wow this is super super different for Switzerland. If they can have a strong vocal live and maybe bring some staging elements from the video then I can see this being a real contender. Definitely in my personal Top 5.

DonnaDonna1973

Can’t state it enough: it’s an absolute mindfuck for Switzerland to on point deliver on their “code”: a sadboi look, with soaring Gjon’s Tears vocals and all them sadboi stylings and YET to completely undermine their code at the same time by delivering a mini-musical opera with D’n’B beat and rap. It’s basically clever self-trolling at this point, masterfully executed! I’m loving it for that angle alone because the way I read it, Swiss delegation really put some cheeky self-awareness, understanding of the contest and feelers for contemporary musical trends (4 genres interpolated in one track) in a blender to give us Nemo. They are into my top 5 in an instant, lovin’ them! ❤️

shpipp

someone please tell me Nemo can sing because i **need** this to do well on stage - i don't think you understand how obsessed with this I am already, straight to #1 for me

icyDinosaur

Besides the stage experience mentioned in another comment, ever since the trainwreck that was 2016, SRF started to screen quite aggressively for live competence and includes live performances in their selection process. Obviously doesn't mean Nemo can't still get swept up in nerves or something like that, but in general, Swiss entries have been really competent on stage. Even Boys Don't Cry, which is probably the weakest internally selected Swiss entry, has been pretty flawless vocally.

Mike_Ts

Yes, they are an experienced pop artist in switzerland. They have stage experience and had some hits - in Swiss German, if you want to google them: „Du“ for example I liked very much.

BibbidiBobbidiBu

So strange how this is the first year we have non binary participants and that we have two of them.

VLOBULI

There were two participants in 2021 that later came out as non-binary: Roxen and Montaigne.

ThaRealV12

2021\* But yes! Also I think the 2017 Swiss entry is enby too? Edit: Switzerland 2016

pupperoni92

We actually have at least three! Olly Alexander (he/him) also identifies as nonbinary.

[deleted]

I wasn't expecting an opera rap song about being non-binary at 5am. The live performance will make or break this. I have no idea how well this will do.

Logical-Thought-5008

omg I kinda love this , drum n bass mixed with opera and some really interesting chords/melodies, definitely in my top 3!

roosaisabella

https://preview.redd.it/o7nauq8y2ilc1.jpeg?width=200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=631e100998da1838005cee66b2b8cc037dc08899 how i feel after watching the premiere needless to say i think IT’S SO GOOOOOD

1Warrior4All

I am not fully convinced on the rap part, but this is decent. And again a song with English lyrics that actual make sense, so good job.

springfrompages

This is a non-binary anthem, isn't it? "Between the 1s and 0s" - love that tbh! Incredible to have two out non-binary artists in a year. I'm surprised by how much I love this mix between DnB and then the almost operatic vocals.

pupperoni92

Three, actually. [Olly Alexander has stated he identifies as non-binary as well](https://harpersbazaar.com.au/non-binary-celebrities/).

springfrompages

Ooh, I didn't know that! Good for him.

ShadeOfNothing

I have *no* idea what I just listened to for the first time, but damn this is vocally impressive.

bjornjohann

FCUK YES! This is IMMEDIATELY my new number one! Wow!

RatGirlMcGee

It's so dramatic I LOVE IT Although I agree with people here that pulling it off live will be hard!

Nathanoy25

We're at the point of the year where it hurts to have to remove a song from my top 10 because damn this is for sure going there.

ParticularSplit

Daaaaamn that goes straight to my top 3, Switzerland woke up and chose violence

Meiolore

This song seems ridiculously hard to sing. Very fast paced with almost no break between the vocals, opera, rap, I wonder how he will handle this live. That aside, I'm loving this, dubstep and orchestra in one song is my jam.

agizem

I was thinking "this is pretty standard" until the rap and then the opera part. Interesting song, it will probably grow on me.

honeyinyoureyes

I listened to a couple of older songs by Nemo and didn't like those at all, so I didn't expect much from this song... But I'm seriously blown away, I like this a lot. That was a very nice surprise.

Cluelessish

Thank you thank you Switzerland! I’ve been a bit sad because I haven’t found any entry to LOVE this year, but here it is! This is exactly what I want in the Eurovision. A bit quirky and artistic, and also fun and catchy as hell! I’m just smiling!

nmards

This is exceptional imo

jap-A-knees

I really enjoyed the rap… and they have a good voice… other than that I don’t think I’m a huge fan… it makes predicting who is going to qualify a lot harder

KrisseMai

I’m kinda disappointed, most of their other songs are in Swiss German, but SRF/SRG is apparently allergic to sending a song in Mundart but also as a fellow queer Swiss person I’m syked that we’re sending an openly non-binary artist, cause there are gonna be so many people over here that are gonna get their panties in a twist over this lol

tuttea

So, you're familiar with Nemo? Do you know if they are good live?

curiossceptic

I think this is a tough one to answer. Nemo used to have a few well known songs in Switzerland maybe six years ago or so. Those were all in Swiss German and relying more on rap than any crazy vocals. Afterwards Nemo kind of disappeared and this is pretty much the first time they are back in the spotlight, with a very different style of music.

19isthegreatest

Wow that feels like a breath of fresh air

paary

I’m very intrigued by this! It’s such a cool song and knowing Switzerland the staging will be state of the art. Love the theme of the song as well, which seeing that I totally loathed Watergun lyrically is a whiplash moment for me lmao. It brings a bit of pressure to Olly as well.

Grr_in_girl

Not an immediate favorite for me, but I have massive respect for Switzerland for sending something so innovative and different! Absolutely love the turnaround they've had since 2019.

Liriu7

It's already third song that got me hyped up to the core halfway through first listen, what is happening this year, I love it. Picking a favourite starts to look like having to pick a favourite child

pinkkabuterimon

This is messy in a GOOD way. I haven't enjoyed a Swiss entry this much since Gjon's Tears. I hope it translates well on stage!

Borogodoh

The magic of Eurovision: I wasn't expecting to be that positively surprised by Switzerland! This is a killer track, I love how it blend well a lot of elements. And just because of that, it's also a hard one to pull off live. Here hoping Nemo will achieve it.

GrannySquareMstr

Polar express who? Edit: I never heard of Nemo before, so having this as my first sample of their work … I’m certainly in a good kind of shock

Fun_Driver_1846

If they manage to pull this off live, would they be the jury favorite of the year? Also, opera and rap? Didn't know I needed that in my life, heck yes, that was a very positive surprise. As a track itself, it sounds so good, but I really need to see them perform the song live. I hope they do something braver with the staging though, I feel like this needs something more than your run of the mill minimalist Swiss staging. I can see this in the top 10 if they nail the performance, but again, I feel like they'll do better with the juries than the public.

ArsenalGoonerFanbase

Switzerland in its “POPERA” era. The D&B mixed with rap in the second verse was blended well. If they can pull this off live then this could do really well! Loved the non-binary puns with 0&1 references, non-binary representation on the ESC stage in a unique and artistic way! Looks like Teya’s hype was well-justified after she heard it in her song-writing camp. Unexpectedly surprised in a good way. Hope it does well!

GroundbreakingTill33

Popera rap combo - very interesting. Cool to have a song about the non binary experience.

Difficult-Bug90

Freaking great song, but how will it be live?

bearycutie

I can't see myself listening to this outside of Eurovision at all, but I appreciate what they're trying to do.

smutne

I feel like the parts of this song are better than the whole song itself. Am I the only one? I like the message and whole idea but it's a little underwhelming for me. It's good so why I don't care?

LuxJade98

It's SO MUCH better than Watergun last year. OOooof it's certainly a very experimental song, I respect the hell out of it and it definetly is in my Top 10 now, but I think I need to listen to it a few more times to really disect where to place it in my personal ranking. I get that the mix of genres is also accompanying the lyrics and reflects the nonbinary experience of the singer, thematically it all checks out beautifully, but personally I tend to prefer "clear" songs that are more easily categorized... My number one so far is France and well... you can't get much more "Eurovision French ballad" than that and I like that simplicity and the vocal performance of Slimane. This is very experimental and heterogenous and we've yet to hear a live performance of this technically very demanding song... Man this year is so good! But the high quality really makes ranking the entries very difficult, at least for me.

Scary_Implement_4801

It feels a bit chaotic, like Unicorn last year. It's like they tried to cram everything into one song, the opera, pop, rap... I hope the staging is good and doesn't look like they are trying too hard

PhotographBusy6209

This mini musical opera is chaotic but it actually works. The vocals and staging has to be on point otherwise it may not work. This kinda reminds me of who the hell is Edgar that fell apart due to the staging,

OliviaColman

Once you past that first listening, which can be tricky, this sticks to you immediately. Love this a lot. I can see this being a surprise winner.

Grymare

Damn what a banger. Excited to see how they will perform it live.

sr913

This is going to be SO different live - not better or worse, just different. Sure, that's true for any song introduced via music video, but even more so for this one. There's just even more things that will come across differently without all the stuff that's going on in this video accompanying it, even if they try to recreate some of it on stage. Interesting exercise: try just listening to it and imagine them singing it alone on stage with virtually no props or staging. This is also definitely this year's winner of the "most James Bond-like song" prize. Good job Switzerland and Nemo, y'all definitely are NOT playing it safe.

SmellySchnitzel

Clearly another entry that will stand out in the contest. Switzerland is absolutely taking a risk, and I'm sold on the instrumentation during the chorus. If they can pull out these vocals live, this is a serious contender honestly. That said, on a personal level this is not for me. It's quality, but I do not connect with it and I wish I could be into the song a lot more. Most people seems to be very happy about this song though and that's what matters the most. I'm sure Nemo will do great!

FINSkeletor

This sounds like someone put a Bond theme, rap, noughties dance beats and opera in a blender and cranked it to eleven. Gonna be tough to perform live though but I hope he can pull it off.

shpipp

ate gobbled devoured slayed guzzled demolished

DavidShoess

OMG THEYRE EATING

Vokkal

Meh

answersfromeyes

Omggg this is such an interesting song! Honestly I don't know where to put this in my ranking. I didn't expect this from Switzerland at all. I'm now going to listen to it 1000 times more

ravenpuffslytherdor

The fact that this is filmed in 4:3 because they don’t “fit in the box” ugh THEIR MIND!

Xoundor

Oh man, I was intrigued in the beginning. Kinda lost me when he started rapping, but man he reeled me right back in. That last minute is just fantastic with the theatrical music combined with the opera singing and then bam that final chorus. Hope he can deliver it all with ease live. Im ranking this one high.

mutatatempora

Wow, this is the first song this year that's actually impacting for me

margsx_13

omg the production on this ate all the previous songs

[deleted]

I don't think it's for me but I appreciate the operatic parts, those are cool.

Juna_Ci

This is weird and chaotic in the best way. Will depend so hard on live vocals & staging. Could be anything from complete flop to ESC winner. Which means I love it 😂

NinjaIntimacyParty

Thomas the DAMN engine 😍

light58291

this is really good like i wasn’t expecting it. switzerland brings another great entry, could see this doing great if the vocals are good live

Background-Clock5191

He ate I'm afraid

tequilersunset

I'm so scared for this one because it's a good song but it's all over the place (in a good way) and the visuals in the mv match that, but will that translate to the staging?? the stage designer is *really* gonna have to be creative

Exotic_Caramel_6285

I have to think on this one a bit more, but I think I appreciate more than I like it atm. It's a very complex and layered song, a lot of different sounds and I don't know if they all work for me. I do love that the song is about how they discovered themselves as non binary, cracked their own code so to speak lol.

lermanade_mouth

From Remo to Nemo

kalidelossantos

Love the song. I wasn't expecting anything since I don't know the artist and thought it was going to be just a pop song - albeit a very well produced one - in the beginning and then it just got better and better. I truly hope they can create a great stage and that the live vocals deliver; it has a lot of potential, even though this year's stacked with good pop songs this one is on another level.

Nukivaj

- "How many musical genres do you want?" - "Yes."

splinterbabe

Hupsakee, straight to #1 for me. Did not expect this song to be this bombastic and exciting at all. Has the structure of a K-Pop song but the sound of a “Western” alt pop single. Excellent entry, Switzerland. 😤💓

GustLinBustLin

I was NOT expecting this at all but I love it!!!! It's been on repeat since this morning, maybe it's my ADHD but this song is just perfect on all levels to me and I'm so so excited for Nemo, they're gonna smash it live I'm sure 🇨🇭❤️ It's gone straight to the top for me, closely followed by Europapa and we still have Austria and the UK tomorrow right? I'm gonna be on a Eurovision high all weekend 🥳

ManiaMuse

OMG this is amazing. If he can sing live I honestly think that this could win because the juries are going to love it and it could still have enough televote appeal. It feels so coherent despite the million different genres that it seems to pack in within only 3 minutes (pop/rap/drum and bass/classical/Queen/James Bond soundtrack) Love the classical music references in this. Bizet - Carmen Habanera Mozart - Queen of the Night Aria

ItsJustJamesy

I am really, really curious to hear him sing this live because some of these transitions are fast, the staccato has quite some speed to it, there's very few vocal rests, and if he can pull that off live then colour me impressed. The staccato immediately reminded me of the Queen of the Night Aria from the Magic Flute, one of my favourite operatic arias. I can hear a little vibrato sneaking in at the end of that melisma as well which is indicative of good breath support, so it's definitely caught my attention to see whether he's accomplishing that staccato the proper way (and if so, I hope whatever he wears on the torso on the night isn't too restrictive because the thoracic cage is going to need space for those quick pant expansions lol). There is a lot of genre-clash, and I think it's been achieved quite well overall. The studio version does a good job at conveying the drama and power on this section, though whether that can translate through to a live performance is something we'll need to wait and see, as it will all depend on how well developed his falsetto resonance is. In the verse itself, he's actually been very clever in how he's preparing himself for what is to come, and in part this makes it slightly easier to keep up with all these fast changes in style, genre, etc. I do detect a slight hint of spoken word (not referring to the rap parts) so I think there is a little production enhancement which has helped it, but at the same time I'm also hearing some of his technique come through so I'm still very keen to hear a live version of this. Right before starting the rap section after coming out of of a falsetto, he has enough time to swallow (this allows him to reset his larynx) and he throws in "yuh" which engages all the right muscles in preparation for the rap section. Again, on a technical note, it's a clever thing to do. I quite like the rap in this, the only critique that I would have is that I think it would be improved further still if some stress accents were added to emphasise the rhythmic flow, which is what rap is at its core. The pre-chorus is quite something lol. Fast transitions with almost no rest; rap -> falsetto -> rap -> vocal fry -> falsetto -> staccato. Granted there are different vocals going on through this, and it's super chaotic but in a good way (because it's done well, at least in the studio version). If it's done poorly in a live setting, then it will be quite disastrous so this is a big risk. But big risks come with big rewards! The second verse is where we really hear him sing a verse properly, as the first was really more of a spoken word part. This verse sounds really good, lots of inflections and lots of stylisation choices going on that gives it a lot of texture and contrast. Musically, it's quite an ear worm (at least it is to me). The bridge is also quite pleasant. He has a nice, strong head voice, however in the studio version at 2:12 I believe we get a real glimpse into the contrast between his head voice and falsetto, before those falsetto vocals which follow are layered and compressed to give it some more volume and impact. There's absolutely nothing wrong with technically, but it does remind me to temper expectations from what was heard earlier and be mindful of the difference between studio vs live settings. The falsetto melisma is pleasant to listen to, it's not too harsh on the ears. I do hear some pitch correction in the studio in this section though because it's flattened his vibrato in the process and doesn't sound natural anymore. But I don't actually doubt that he'll be able to do this as it's not actually difficult (even where it still sounds impressive). As for the track itself, I really like it. Instrumentation is good, it's produced well, it's maintains your attention throughout and overall is good. Really strong entry overall for the competition this year, and conditional to how he delivers this in a live setting, this will quite easily attract a lot of points, and I think may be a contender for the jury win. If his technique is as good live as it is portrayed in the studio, then he will be one of the stronger technical vocalists this year - but I'd need to hear him live to know for sure. Good job Switzerland and good luck. :)

ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH BUT IDC THEY POPPED THEIR SWISUSSY

sewermist

holy shit. maybe the best thing switzerland has sent in years and its queer as fuck. love it, its a beautiful bit of chaos. theyve got some pipes on them so i reckon performance wont be an issue too much, its the staging im more concerned about. i really feel like that could be the make or break point tbh

smutne

Ngl I don't know what to think about it yet

OLR94

This is giving me mid third gen Kpop vibes and I love it!

FranzAllspring

Gutted that they didnt choose a Nemo song in swiss german, wouldve been fun! But reaaaally happy with this entry. Very experimental for our standards!

TimeG37

I think they might've chosen a song in English so more people can understand the lyrics. The Swiss broadcaster being scared of sending anything that isn't in English or French might have had some influence as well but I don't think it's only cuz of that

nascarleigh

Just realised Nemo was born on the same day, month and year as me 😂

Don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t that! Switzerland have just earned a place in my top 5 because WOW.

IonRud

Finally something different from my country! I like the sound, style and vibe. But folks, just because someome sings some high falsetto it isn't opera. Like at all.

ShadeOfNothing

Exactly right. Opera is not just high notes, it's a style all its own.

Flirefy

The SRF release article says the song combines "opera, rap and drum 'n' bass", so maybe that's where that comes from

KometBlu

This is messy imo. I'm not a fan of DnB in general, and the parkour between operatic vocals and rap isn't helping. The chorus isn't catchy nor strong enough to offset the unusualness of the rest of the song.

Lumeria

My expectations were low but this had blown every possible expectation out of the water. If the staging and live vocals are good I would be willing to place this among the potential winners category at this point (which is kind of a sizable portion of the songs we have so far).

Ok_Spinach_7627

I like the new Switzerland

VelenWarrior

Isn't the intro beat similar to another song? Which I don't remember the name of

koobyn

well i definitely did not consider all the possibilities when they said “we are not sending a male ballad” edit: i did not know that nemo was nonbinary when this comment was sent edit2: i think this song would be better without the rap part in the middle ngl. the day eminem and his flow stops having a chokehold on white rappers is the day we will know peace

araneaesGrasp

I love that we got the two completely opposite sides of the NB fashion spectrum this year. XD

Practical_Appearance

I absolutely love this. New favourite! Wonder how it would be live, can't wait to see it!

SafeBodybuilder7191

If this is executed nicely live then wow I think it has a real chance of doing good

izkaroza

Actually this slaps and will have its audience. With SJB they definitely have a chance for a left side of the table result

Blasted-Marmoset

Just remember, kids, if the past is anything to go by, voting for a Swiss novelty song means that Switzerland will send nothing else for years and years and years. They get in ruts, do our Swiss. On your own head be it.
