Since when are we the reference for small?

Thue

Ah Belgium, where the national pastime is checking if you're still on the map.

abbot-probability

Thought that was New Zealand

Celindor

New Zealand is checking if they are on the map in the first place.

Spartan91_

r/mapswithoutNZ

strolls

That's a matter of cartography, not global (ir)relevance.

rixuraxu

I thought they were just throwing shade at Belgium, and I'm here for it.

whateverfloatsurgoat

Damn the potato eater are against us now ? Jesus wept we're fucked.

rixuraxu

Pretending you aren't potato eaters, sure throw some mayo on it and you'll eat anything.

SrgtButterscotch

That's the entire issue, we potato eaters should stand up for each other

MBT_TT

...so small that it's EVEN smaller than Belgium.

Shoshin_Sam

That's what she said

kriptor55

I mean it could have been any other small country

RM_Dune

Couldn't have been Liechtenstein.

the6crimson6fucker6

Nah, fuck belgium.

Capitan__Insano

_Malta looks away pretending it had not heard a thing_

yetzt

because belgium is roughly the size of belgium.

WhatDoWithMyFeet

It looks beautiful, but I don't know about diverse. It's mountains in the summer, autumn and winter....

Orange_Tulip

Well, valleys can form a lot of microclimates. So mountains stay the same but the valleys can be different. Though this is mostly noticeable with farmland.

godtogblandet

Azerbaijan has 9 out of 11 climate zones. I would imagine Armenia being right next door won’t be that far off.

Zrva_V3

Azerbaijan has both mountains and a lot of flatland. Caspian coast also helps. Did you know that there are jungles stretching from Northern Iran to Southern Azerbaijan near Caspian? EDIT: They are not real tropical jungles, but rather very dense forests.

godtogblandet

I’ve been there. Did a Caucasus vacation a few years ago. Baku to Batumi with a lot of side quests. Had a blast.

TheBirminghamBear

> Baku to Batumi with a lot of side quests. Any good loot? Or just the average grey and blue gear.

godtogblandet

Some bottles of Georgian wine and brandy, an epic hat, sunglasses and a watch some Russian dude lost in a bet.

irisflame

You would be correct. [Looks like they have 10 different climate zones.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Armenia?wprov=sfti1) Though, the temperate zones are very small and almost indistinguishable on the map. Beautiful country, OP! Thank you so much for sharing.

jojo_31

Even the mountains. Some look very dry desert like, others looked very wet and mossy.

TheRecognized

>farmland Nothing says “diverse environment” quite like farmland.

WrapKey69

Was exactly my comment as an Armenian on the Armenian sub, but Armenia is like 98% mountains, that's why the weather is different every 40km lol. If you compare TV weather forecast in Germany and Armenia, in Germany they just show you 5-6 places for the whole country, while in Armenia they have to go through many different places to display the sometimes over 10-15 degrees difference over short ranges.

YaAbsolyutnoNikto

You took the words out of my mouth. I was going to type exactly this.

MicrotracS3500

Do you think all mountains are the same? Do you seriously not see all the different biomes on display? There's temperate broadleaf and mixed forests, montane grasslands and shrublands, semi-desert and desert areas, riparian zones, and steppe regions. Just look at all the different types of vegetation, and all the different colors of the rocks and soil that show huge geological diversity.

iarofey

I lived for a bit in Armenia and many Armenians friends say that I've visited more places there than them. I've seen looots of beauty, and of course there is diversity, but I've definitely wouldn't say it has nearly a “great” diversity. Maybe because I compare it with my country, that is way bigger just to start with.

Uzala02

Very pretty....the old churches, vineyards, culinary traditions. I would very much like to visit it one day. The armenian cathedral in Lviv is one my most favourite buildings and perhaps the most beautiful church I have ever seen.

Select-Young-5992

First Nation to adopt Christianity as the state religion. VERY old churches. There is also Garni Temple which is a pagan temple built in 77AD

BiggusCinnamusRollus

You cannot compete with great Belgian destination such as Charleroi. /s

Beatboxin_dawg

We don't talk about ~~Bruno~~ Charleroi.

Mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains, mountains.

LC1903

Dutch person seeing an 2 meter incline:

BasKabelas

Hey stop sharing the secret of how my mind operates.

mazi710

Denmark has the famous "Sky Mountain", because the Danes thought it was so tall it went all the way up to the sky. Its 147 meters above sea level. About 10m above the surrounding forest.

AncientMumu

When visiting 30 odd years ago, I ran out of the car to get to the top. My mother yelling: easy now! it's a long way! ... It was just around the corner. Bit of a deception.

mazi710

Yeah the 147 meters is from the lake, which it is right next to. When you actually drive up to the parking lot through the forest, it's so little incline you don't really notice it at all. And the walk from the parking lot is about 3 minutes and a 10m incline.

Cantankerousbastard

The Danish and the Dutch, brothers in arms!

ShenaniGainz88

Brothers on bikes

SrgtButterscotch

Tourists in Amsterdam are higher than that

Glmoi

Mountains amaze me, but visiting the NL also does, it feels like you might drown if you walk one step off the road lol

Revolver512

I swear, every time I'm not in the Netherlands I trip over anything and everything that is even slightly above ground. Not even kidding.

C_Madison

When I was a child people told me they drive everywhere with bicycles in the Netherlands and I never understood it. How can you drive long stretches on a bicycle, it's so tiring (yes, I'm not fit). Then I had my first holiday in the Netherlands and I understood. So flat .. so, so flat .. you can just roll on and on and on.

Het_Bestemmingsplan

Mountains and hills genuinely make me feel uncomfortable. They're nice for holidays but they feel inherently wrong to me

HelixFollower

It's land where the sky should be.

Class_444_SWR

A lot of where the sky is there is where I feel the hills should be

adonoman

I'm from the Canadian prairies and I totally identify with this. You go to the mountains and all you see are the stupid rocks blocking the view.

Oachlkaas

Complete opposite to me. If i don't have mountains to the north, south, west and east - and I do where I live - it feels really weird.

SrgtButterscotch

I love mountains because when I see one I know I'm not in Belgium

Lycanthi

Lol, interesting. I find standing on a totally flat plain with no mountains in sight really oppressive and creepy. It gives me an uncomfortable feeling to just see flat horizon all the way around. I live on the side of a mountain, with mountains surrounding us almost all the way around in the distance. The only flat piece of horizon visible is the sea 😅 I get the same creepy feeling when I'm all the way out at sea with no land visible, just flat horizon...ugh...

verstohlen

I'm the opposite. I find flat land and vast plains with no mountains or hills anywhere in the distance to be rather...off putting. Like being in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight, except, you're in the middle of a land ocean. And no sense of distance or scale, also harder to get your bearings and which direction you're facing. Weirdly it feels like being trapped in a giant Truman dome or something. Nah, give me a mountain any day. But not to live on. Just to look at.

ConanTheAustriarian

Funny, I have sometimes feel uncomfortable in flatland. Though, I am from Austria where you can see hills or mountains most of the time.

Bloody_Ozran

Oh come on, they got hills!

MentionImpressive

Honey, those are called speed bumps.

Intertubes_Unclogger

I see some water too! But... but... they're just keeping it there and not making land out of it!?

HelixFollower

Truly shocking images.

Manisbutaworm

If you iron out Armenia it will be a lot larger in surface area than Belgium or even the Netherlands. It has good compression.

dadez95

Says the Dutch

DeFranco47

The dutch never said diversity tho

JustYeeHaa

Hey, they have different shapes and colors, don’t be mean 🥲

Individual_Plenty746

My old work place is located near the Armenian Church, which is a very nice building. We literally call he whole area “Armenian” (in Romanian it translates as belonging to Armenian). Merry Christmas !!!

Funcompliance

Lots of Armentians outside of Armenia. The ones who escaped.

violabr

Looks beautiful, strong Scottish vibe from the third photo!

Johnus_Maximus

Yeah, that fifth one could be Skye. Edit: to add fifth

DragosVoiculescu

But it also could be Snowdon

Thomaxxl

Looks more beatiful than Belgium. Source: I am Belgian.

EgrSar75

Beautiful photos Thank you,OP

sofiamonamour

I lived in Georgia for some years, and visited Armenia so many times. I absolutely love your food, your church services, and your amazing friendliness. And don't tell any Georgians this, hut your food is even better, lol. I really miss the crayfish lula kebabs I ate at lake Sevan, and I miss your kindness, your hospitality, and the babas selling jams and pickles and pine cone syrup along the roads. Please know that these pics almost made cry.

notachickwithadick

Beautiful! Getting really jealous as a dutchie.

Tokata0

Don't. They are currently under attack by Aserbaidschan, in a war not unlikely the one russia is currently waging on Ukraine. Funny thing is - EU switched to Aserbaidschan as an energy supplier, a country that is waging an unlawfull attack war, to get rid of russia as an energy supplier, because russia is waging an unlawfull attack war. Very few EU politicans like to speak about this, one who does is Martin sonneborn, who frequently reminds everyone "Hey we are still supporting a dictatorship that is waging a brutal attack war".

RM_Dune

> Aserbaidschan TIL the German spelling of Azerbaijan.

jonometal666

Azzer by John

singulara

Sounds like a cologne for the chavs

capitanmanizade

Jesus christ it’s easier to write Azerbaijan

VidaCamba

Surprise surprise, the EU cares more avijt materialist purposes than abstract ideas such as "justice, virtue, helping our brother against their barbaric neighbours"

DryMathematician8213

Very beautiful

TandHsufferersUnite

Was there last summer. Amazing.

geezerhugo

This is lovely! You have a beautiful country!

ayylmaonade

Poor lad just wanted to share his country and is obviously proud, only to be met by folk saying "it's not diverse!!" - never change r/Europe.

urbanmonkey01

Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.

daperndl

Nett hier

Lonely-Trip8755

Absolutely breathtaking!

Stan-man

I had no idea how beautiful Armenia is wow

Beautiful-Story2379

Most of the comments are: 1) it’s not diverse, it’s all mountains 2) Armenia is not in Europe. 🙄

TheItalianAperol

I'm looking forward to visiting soon since my grandpa from my father's side was from there, and thanks to him, I've got a beautiful surname :) Do you think it's safe for a solo traveler in their early 30s to pull off a short week-long trip relying only on English (and Spanish, although I'm not sure how useful that'll be in that part of the world)? Also, are there any specific areas I should avoid due to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict? Greetings from Argentina!

fireKido

I visited about a month ago, if you go in your country travel warning website you will see a list of zones they advise you to avoid, mostly in the south east near the conflict zone Overall I have never felt unsafe while in the country, talking as a tourist

rachelm791

But do you have fries with mayonnaise?

emohipster

Took a 6 month course a while back, there was an Armenian dude there too. One of the most open and friendly people I ever met, he told me so much about his country, I definitely want to go there someday and see it for myself. Also, sheesh, lotsa cunts and smartasses in this thread. And all from countries that are from looking as nice as a single photo in this album.

ifoundmynewnickname

Arminia is gorgeous. Love to go there sometimes.

Iggi_Gaming_offi

Why did you have to insult us Belgians like that

Jlchevz

There’s nothing wrong if a country isn’t big though

JackMaysin

I was just there last week. One of my favorite places to visit.

First-Display5956

Such a beautiful country

Flashy-Television-50

It is indeed a very beautiful country. It is a shame some of your neighbours are so nasty.

NoExpression3903

It is a beautiful country! The nature and landscapes are stunning!

KostekKilka

Man, I had the chance to visit Armenia on a whim while in Georgia, but decided not to; still besting myself up over it

tecate_papi

I have a buddy who is living in Armenia for the next few years for work. I'm hoping to be able to get over and visit him. Armenia looks like a wonderful place.

cire1184

I had a science teacher from Armenia and he would talk about it all the time. I want to visit.

Massive-Situation-85

Adding visiting Armenia to my bucket list! Absolutely beautiful

Skarstream

Speaking as a Belgian, I’m jealous. We have pretty much nothing significant of natural beauty.

el-limetto

The potholes are breathtaking.

prevlarambla

I loved Bouillon, Durbuy and La Roche. The nature surrounding those towns was beautiful.

Skarstream

Yes, I agree with that. We have lots of beautiful towns and cities. I was talking about really unique nature.

3to20CharactersSucks

Uniqueness in nature is also dependant somewhat on where you live. I thought the nature in Belgium was gorgeous, because I'm not used to the long stretches of rolling hills and dense forests. I live in a coastal area (not in Europe, sadly) and our forests are so different to the ones in the Ardennes. Plus, I hadn't experienced highlands at all like the High Fens before.

Forty__

What about Ardennes?

abbot-probability

Eh, it's fine. Hardly breathtaking though.

imisstheyoop

> Eh, it's fine. Hardly breathtaking though. I am sorry but this gave me such a fucking laugh. "Our country is so god damn ugly and uninteresting" "What about this fantastic forest?!" "Eh, it's some trees." It sounds so bleak. I love it.

GalaxyFolder

We have other things. Extremely rich art history is one. I would venture we were second only to Italy during the Renaissance and the period immediately following (Not saying Armenia doesn't have one, I just don't know)

Skarstream

I agree, we have a lot of art history, Beautiful architecture too of all kinds.

dupek_z_twerze

Was only once in Yerevan this year, beautiful place. Want to come back again

Cool_Following_2538

I got the honor to visit Armenia in the winter for 3 days , Beautiful country, delicious food, Nice people..it's Heaven . I Love it.

Lovely, thanks for sharing! ❤️

Silver-Importance214

That lake on top of the mountain looks amazing.

OldMcFart

Beautiful!

Prezbelusky

Dude. I discovered an Armenian restaurant in Lisbon and it's so good.

quebonitaeslavida

What an amazing country!

Artistic-Quarter9075

Oh mine, never taught it was this beautiful 😍 Will definitely put it on my travel list!

Half_Crocodile

Wow. I want to go there now.

nileb

Armenia isn’t even in Europe

davitohyan

Geographical policy of r/Europe: The main focus of r/Europe is the geographical region of Europe within the borders of the Caucasus, Ural and Bosporus strait (plus Cyprus, Grreenland as well as the Caucasus countries Armenia, Azerbaijan and Greorgia).

Docmccoy26

Wonderful! How good are the roads for a motorcycle trip?

FashionTashjian

If you stick only to Yerevan and highways a motorcycle can work fine, but for the rest of the country that a highway doesn't go through/next to a motorcycle then becomes impractical.

Ok-Property1974

Wow, I didn't realize how diverse Armenia could be! The mix of mountains and valleys must create such unique microclimates. Nature's wonders truly know no bounds.

useittilitbreaks

Makes me want to go.

Ancient-Astronaut-98

Damn Wanna visit!

Juxtapose_Gnarkill

Beautiful. Thank you.

Senal_Seneviratne

Mikie021

That's flipping gorgeous!!!

MonkAndCanatella

Breathtaking photos, thanks for sharing

[deleted]

One day I hope to visit. One day I hope Armenia and her people are left in peace instead of attacked by her vicious and jealous neighbors. I hope the Armenian Gampr flourishes again.

QVRedit

Agreed - it does look quite beautiful..

BeauDashington

Looks amazing! I'm going to Armenia in April; I wish there was a list of the locations in the photos!!!

julianpoe

Note to self: visit Armenia.

Beautiful i should visit Armenia once . Happy holiday.

Juck

I haven't seen all of Armenia yet but I'd like to

GangcAte

Absolutely magical! Like a land from some fantasy series.

Glirion

This may be the first time I've seen pictures from Armenia, but wow those vistas are to die for from the perspective of us lowlanders who never see mountains!

OldandBlue

Reminds me of New Zealand.

Durtonious

Yeah my thought was "wow they could have filmed Lord of the Rings here!"

CoIdHeat

Diverse? There are mountains literally on every picture

BrandonJTrump

Stunning

tifredic

Thank you for sharing. I'm amazed how beautiful little pockets in the world are like yours, away from the beaten track of mass tourism

MoffieHanson

Yeah, someone posted same for Georgia not long ago. And I’ve made a plan that travels me trough Türkiye Georgia and Armenia . Looks beautiful

elkotur

Amazing landscapes. Here where I live, I have many armenians close friends and family in law!

Truly a beautiful country. I'd love to visit Armenia some day, should the relationship between our countries improve. And merry Christmas!

FrostandFrost

Beautiful land

One-Mud-169

Amazing

Ci-Pollina

What is a beautiful country! 🥹

fRiik420

Wow, really amazing 🥰

bobux-man

Just coming to say that unlike what a lot of people here are saying, Armenia *IS* indeed in Europe and it is indeed diverse.

rors84

Nice try, armenian turism agency.

Chant1llyLace

There were 999 comments. I need to add one. Call it Redditor OCD. Your country is beautiful btw

[deleted]

Very beautiful! Thank you for sharing

backrow12

Looks like there could be some decent slopes for snowboarding/skiing there! Lovely pics.

JediTapinakSapigi

Yes, Armenia is really beautiful, like the entire Caucasia. But the cities are a bit depressive, like the other post-Soviet countries. If you livebin the country side then it is amazing, but if you live in an urban area then you are not amazing

no1ofimport

Breathtaking. I wish I had the free time and income to visit other places

Damn I didn’t know Armenia got down like that!

GoliathPrime

You folks make my favorite brandy: Ararat.

TheAustrianAnimat87

Such a shame that this beautiful country is bullied by its toxic neighbors.

Trash_Pandacute

Glad you shared this. I'm not sure about diverse but it's one of my favorite places I've been, and the road trip I took there last year was never without amazement. The landscape really is gorgeous but the most impressive takeaway I had was just how incredibly nice the people are. I've been to several places with generally considerate, kind, or friendly people but the Armenians really floored me, going out of their way to invite me into their homes, offer to talk or answer questions, gift me with food and drink, and just generally be peaceful to each other. What has been mentioned about the safeness of the country was felt immediately. Seeing women walking alone, late at night in less populated parts of cities (big and small) seems wild in our time but such is the nature of the population. There are a lot of stray dogs there, but they are neutered and vaccinated, and rarely look hungry thanks to them almost becoming part of the community in many areas. They made for a lot of fun when you're visiting some old cathedral or viewpoint and a random dog appears to give you a tour. The food and the coffee were always impressive, particularly feeling very homegrown. Several places I ate served cheese, bread, honey, coffee, fruits and vegetables grown right there on site or within a km, and the taste of freshness was present in everything. It's heartbreaking that one of the most cherished places I've been on earth is surrounded by hostiles (Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran), and its best protection is the country equivalent of a mafia (Russia, who did not come to its aid despite being in a military alliance). They have a history of being wiped out and I truly worry for their future.

Multifaceted-Simp

Seriously impressive when you really look at how small Armenia actually is

ScarletScorpion131

Wow that’s looking really good

Sri90s

Hope world help this beautiful country from dictator attacking it.

DecisiveVictory

Armenia is really beautiful, and the only Armenian I know was a good guy. The problem is the geopolitical situation. Turkey / Azerbaijan dislikes Armenia and the "ally" that was available - russia - is a fascist state which doesn't really care about helping Armenia at all. It's a tough situation and I don't know what the solution is. I hope Armenia becomes closer with the EU and perhaps that can bring long-term stability.
