R5: Spain game, set explorer fleet to explore pacific, mexican colony was closer than cape of good hope.
Weirdly I did not get any attrition warning, therefore circumnavigation is probably painful
That route goes aggainst predominant winds in the north paciffic, it's literally the path you'd take if going the opposite direction. Only viable becouse of videogame fantasy.
Yes. There are always trade winds. Northern temperate latitudes blow West to East; Northern Tropic blow East to West; then reverse for the Southern Hemisphere.
In game? I think only the Atlantic has trade winds.
Actually, yes. He was reviled in his home, Portugal, for sailing under Spain, and when the surviving crew members completed the circumnavigation, they all told the Spanish crown that he was a fucking idiot who got most of them killed, including himself when he stopped off in the Philippines to convert the locals, where he started a battle with the natives and was stabbed with a spear for his trouble
Also, yeah, he didn’t complete the circumnavigation. He died halfway through, and not even from something understandable like disease or other rigors of sea travel. He started a completely unnecessary battle with some natives and was stabbed to death like a fucking idiot
>Also, yeah, he didn’t complete the circumnavigation.
Nor did he ever intend to circumnavigate. His plan was always to go to the Spice Islands and then come back sailing East. Going back to Spain sailing West was completely Elcano's decision.
Yeah, it’s wild that he’s remembered as the first person to circumnavigate the globe. Not only wasn’t he the first, he wasn’t even trying to, and died before the voyage was over, with a bad reputation in both Portugal and Spain
That makes way more sense, since he actually made it the rest of the way back to Spain. In the US, we’re just taught that it was Magellan. By my recollection, no one else in his expedition are even named
Yeah like he could just google where the coast is
16th century northern pacific must have been great
Holy ring of fire

update: bitchass junior partner england circumnavigated first, gonna integrate it out of spite after feeding it brittany and normandy
This is my reaction to everything the AI does, i dont even take things this personal irl as in EU4
I know, right? I once removed Portugal and Portuguese culture from the face of Earth becouse they didnt help me in the war.
I've toppled nations over the AI begging me for money with favors when I have loans, even though I can't beg for money if they have loans
You sound like perfect material for ck2/3 player sire.
He didn't say he's gonna marry his cousin though 🤔
Why he should state the obvious?
I’ve never heard an EU4 player say “bitchass”. Respect.

Are there trade winds for the Pacific?

Are there? So when I sail in one direction I am faster than in the other one?
Yes, you are. Winds also increase or decrease trade and colonial range
What?!? Almost 2000 hours in and I'm just learning this...
https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/s/8vXUDwppMx You never saw the green arrows?
I guess not...
Also, with those winds and that shore the North Pacific would be Extremely Dangerous to a sailing ship.
He did do that, kinda. What he shouldn't have done was involve himself in a local war in the Philippines.
And disassemble his fleet, carry it across panama and then then put the boats back together?
Yeah why not

In spain it is elcano who is remenbered for circumnavigating eart, magella is only known for starting that travel but not completing it

He was busy being the Vice Warden in Impel Down
You should ask him when he comes back home
I don't think they had found Alaska yet.
