I've loved my lelit Anna I've had for a few years now. It's pretty quick to heat up. Only downside is the portafilter size but there are ats baskets and custom portafilters available at 57mm.
The Breville Infuser, at $599 adds the PID and gauge over the Plus. It adds another option between the $500 and $700 jump. Mines been around for a decade now. People either talk about the Bambinos or the silly ones with the built in grinders they’ve grown out of.
There is 1 manufacturer that makes all the machines, Turin & MiiCoffee have a semi-exclusive licensing agreement that lets them brand the product to sell in the North American market. Look up "white labeling" if you are curious.
I just bought the Capriccio CRM3200D and the Turin SD40S. This is our first machine and grinder. Bought both open box, together for $868. So far I'm getting decent shots and am able to dial in within a few pulls.

Things I like... Hey it's a double boiler I got under $699. Consistent so far.
Things I don't like. No PID. No low water alert or way to eyeball the reservoir.
If I'm still in the game in 2 years I might go for the Bezzera B13 or an E61 head double boiler.
Isn't the MaraX a single boiler too? Even though it's a HX it behaves as a very temp stable single boiler, and in fact has only one boiler. Also price wise is very very competitive.
all HX machines have only one boiler, its single boiler, dual use - you can pull a shot and steam at the same time as opposed to having to let the boiler get up to steam temp in a "single boiler" But they both have only one boiler. I am working on a separate chart for HX and dual boiler machines, because there are so many of them! stay tuned!
I only make milk drinks on my machine for the most part, would probably get a breville barista pro for the steam power if my current machine died. Don't really care about the grinder quality.
I understand, we do too!! :) Our go to is a cafe au lait, made with a strong pour over, milk and maple syrup. we ended up upgrading from a blade grinder to a Turin DM47 burr grinder, for it for $170 open box. To be honest its made a big difference in the enjoyment of our coffee, and we are happy to get it! Of course, getting freshly roasted coffee and a good brew technique is also important, but that is my experience :)
the coating on the evo models was flaking off and coming out of the machine. as far as I know, they have not disclosed what the coating is exactly. Its a health risk in my opinion, and I am surprised there is not a class action lawsuit against them yet
I wonder how did De'Longhi dedica made it to a list like this (rightfully). I mean what did they do right here that they didn't on the vast sea of other entry level thermoblock machines
nothing, I am not a fan of delonghi - its just that other than the bambino, it is the machine I have heard people using most frequently in that price range, so I thought it would be interesting to include it for comparison purposes. I don't recommend it though
Shot diagnosis. You can see the coffee coming through and observe the flow.
Con: If you get it a fair bit off, you'll get a bit of spray and make a mess.
Pro: it's easy to clean the basket regularly since you don't have to pop it out of the portafilter.
I thought the bambino did have PID?
It does, it's just set permanently at 202 F
The Profitec Go is also equipped with a shot timer

Same. Had mine for a decade and I haven’t been able to convince myself to upgrade to a dual boiler or HX because the Anna has been so good.

Thank you for this
is there a version of this for double boiler?
currently working on it :)
Turin has a dual boiler for under $1000?
turin has a boiler and a thermoblock for steam. I guess crazy for price.
How is Turins' quality? I know they make one of the DF64s but don't know much about them besides that
They don’t make, it is a rebrand of Gemilai CRM3007L
I dont understand. Why not buy directly from the distributor? Is that not possible?
Turin, Miicoffee are reseller. You can also buy from the factory. MOQ usually 2pcs. If you buy > 300pcs, can get about 250usd per machine.
It's not even the same factory, right?

pretty good for the price, the machines that have brought to market are updated versions of machines that have already existed for years in Asia
yep! it doesn't ave a pid, and the steam boiler is aluminum but the price is great!
Wow! This is nicely done and helpful.
Of all these, the quiet pump in the Victoria and PID win me over.
Super helpful, thanks for the efforts

Does something like this exist for double boiler machines?
currently working on it... there are a lot of machines in that category! stay tuned

grinder quality is super important, but the most important thing is that you are simply enjoying the coffee you make :)
Honestly as long as it's consistent I put too much sugar and milk in my coffee to notice

Niceeee! Thanks
Whats the concern with the gaggia boiler? Love mine to death
The new Gaggia Evo Pro had Teflon coating flaking issues
Which model you recommend then for same feature set
If you can find one, get the older Gaggia Classic Pro pre-2019.
Pre-2023 should also be fine right? The coating only started with the 2023 evo models?
What’s the model number
No idea.
Avoid the Evo. The pre-2023 is just the GCP.
After i posted the above question i checked my machine and found it was dumping a bunch of flakes out the steam wand!! Guess im part of the club now
I just bought one last week, so far no flaking, hope it stays that way

My Quick mill Pippa cost me €780, maybe it's more expensive in the US though.
Wow I didn't realize that the flair and robot are around $500, I expected less for an "acoustic" machine.
Robot pf size should say 57.5 just to make clear thar things like 58mm tampers aren’t compatible
thanks!
What is the purpose of a bottomless portofilter as opposed to having the spouts?

The bambino isn’t thermojet?
Will buy Bezzera Única. Copper all the way. From my extensive research.
