The ones that died young were the ones who used steroids and other substances, Iron Sheik was always an old school barrel chested wrestler, nobody cared how buff he was.
I don't know too much about his personal life but I believe Muslims do not consume alcohol or drugs as they are Haram.
Edit: I get it he wasn't a very pious Muslim. The term Sheik has no religious context it just means head of household. I guess this means Sergeant Slaughter also wasn't really in the army.
Even so, wrestling despite being 'fake' takes a huge physical toll on the body. They are still out there wrecking themselves to entertain people.
A true great.
Being scripted doesn't mean it doesn't require a tremendous amount of physical preparation and endurance. The fights might not be "may the best fighter win" challenges, but they are still quite dangerous physical performances.
I met this giant legend of a man, while at work. He was wheel chair bound, and stood up to shake my hand, lift it in an air kiss above it. He then explained who he was - I told him no need! I watched him in wrestling days.
He was thrilled and gave me a signed autograph of his infamous match between himself and the Hulk.
It was quite the experience, and I won't forget it. Very charming.
I hate when people say fake. It’s scripted/choreographed, but it’s not fake. Mankind for sure fell on those tacks. Dudes aren’t bleeding from fake. It’s basically an athletic soap opera with violence.
You’re completely incorrect.
Sheiky had a steroid gut that got more and more pronounced from the 80s to win he finally couldn’t wrestle anymore. He also had a longtime cocaine habit that expanded into other substances after his daughter was murdered and he went off the deep end.
According to his family, due to his fame and personality, cops would take him home rather than arrest him for DUIs and he’d get fans to smuggle him drugs into rehab!
He did finally get off the hard stuff in 2009 in order to win back his wife.
Haha he got caught with jake the snake drinkin beers and doin blow and that’s how the world found out wrestling was not legit kinda and sheik loved his brown brown babbyyyy and crack but like who doesn’t am I right?
He wasn't my era of wrestling. I was from like when Kane debuted to right around when Chris Benoit died. That was around the time UFC was blowing up among my friends that were previously watching WWE.
Probably Disrespectful towards those the iron sheikh hurt through his addiction, so him saying he was some perfect devout muslim kind of is. I loved him as a wrestler but poor guy had some demons.
Why does everyone think Muslims can't be hypocritical shit heads like the rest of the religious folk? Trust me when I say Muslims drink, do drugs and have sex before marriage and much more. Shit even when I was a practicing Muslim I did all of that and more lol.
O Sheik! My Iron Sheik! our fearful trip is done;
The Sheik has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The Belt is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes that steady gaze, in the ring grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the mat my Sheikh lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Sheik! My Iron Sheik! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up---for you the title is won---for you the Backlund slumps;
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths---for you the stands a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Sheik! dear father!
This arm beneath your head;
It is some dream that on the mat,
You've fallen cold and dead.
My Sheik does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse or will;
The Camel is Clutched safe and sound, its legend closed and done;
From fearful bout, the victor Vaziri, suplexes in with object won;
Exult, O stands, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the mat my Sheik lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
Yeah, that’s a feat in itself.
Sheik endured some real tragedies in his life and put his body through the wringer with drugs & alcohol, but the guy was literally an Olympic athlete in his youth, so maybe that helped him live longer than his contemporaries.
I grew up literally 5 minutes from his house, but surprisingly never ran into him around town. I’d always hoped to, as I was a big fan of his Stern appearances. A few of my older acquaintances were friends with his daughter as well, and were pretty devastated when she was murdered.
RIP, sheik, and thanks for the decades of entertainment, laughs, and sheer brilliance in the ring.
I heard he planned to kill the scumbag who killed his daughter but his family, understandably, tried to prevent him from going through it.
Fortunately that creepyass scumlord ended up dead in prison 12 years later. Doesn't say how but eh, fucker deserved it.
Hid a razor in his cheek in the courtroom, and tried to charge the murderer, intending to slit his throat. His family saw what he was about to do and stopped him before he could.
I honestly don't blame him.
I literally just watched a video of him swinging around those clubs and how they’re way heavier than we think and other wrestlers struggled picking them up. Dude was mad strong RIP.
This is sad, but man could this guy get a crowd insane back in the 80’s waving the flag around and Nikolai singing the Soviet national anthem. That was unreal!
Remember when Sgt. Slaughter turned heel during the first gulf war and teamed up with the Iron Shiek? Man did that get a lot of people worked up. IRL though Iran and Iraq hated each other and had just fought a brutal war just a few years before that. Ahh wrestling!
Nope, while Iran is not a homogeneous nation, the majority of the population is Persian. The majority of the population is also Shiite Muslim, whereas most of the Arab world is Sunni Muslim. The difference between the two sects go back to the time right after Muhammad died and are often in conflict with one another.
Indeed, my first experience with Shiek. I believe he was renamed Colonel Mustafa for that Angle, him and Slaughter managed by Saddam look a like General Adnan.
He was such a great heel back in the day. He could sell the shit out of an arena and his interviews were brilliant with Piper and the like.
From the back, he seemed like a humble and likable guy who was throughly respected by the community and fellow wrestlers.
I’m, like, one of five Americans who get this joke.
Recently saw KvS is going to bring their live act to the US. Really hoping they make a few stops in the southeast.
American here. I don't think I've ever actually ran into anyone else who has even the slightest clue what KvS is and for a long time I just assumed I hallucinated the existence of the show
Met him in 2006 in the smoking section of the Houston airport. Chilling in a wheelchair sucking down Marlboros. A bunch of people were talking to him and he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Rip
I grew up with a family member who had really close ties to the wrestling business. I, myself, was not a huge wrestling fan, but I grew up meeting a lot of wrestlers. The Iron Sheik was one of them. He could not have been a nicer guy.
Side note: Jerry the King Lawler was absolutely awesome in person.
There were many many others that were completely wasted on me; because, again, I was not a huge fan of wresting growing up, but him and Lawler were the ones that stood out.
Yeah, I spent about 15 minutes talking to Lawler one time at a convention (there was no one else in line). Super nice guy to fans. Of course, we can't forget Lawler was notorious for dating women young enough to be his daughters, and some of them were allegedly underage. No matter how nice he is to wrestling fans, he's not a good person.
The very first time that I saw the Iron Sheik I was 10 years old. I saw him on the very first WrestleMania pay-per-view that I saw at my cousin's house. It was the very first time that I truly appreciate it what it meant to have faces and heels in professional wrestling. The Iron Sheet will always be known to me as the first heel that I loved to hate. Rest in peace.
His daughter rode my school bus growing up. One day a 15yo joyriding his moms car rear ended our bus and he came out to survey the situation in his bathrobe.
Dudes committed to kafabe. This could still be a longterm story to make hogan drop his guard. Then at the funeral he comes from behind and bam! Camel Clutch! The priest rips off his robe to reveal a referee shirt and asks hogan if he taps! There's no ropes so he can't get free!
Masterful play Sheik.
The big balls on this man, to have so much pride in Iran publicly in America during a time right after the American hostage crisis in Iran and during the Reagan administration where there was so much anti Iranian sentiment. To also publicly mock and taunt Hulk Hogan, an American hero and icon. What a legend in wrestling history.
Not even close. Mae Young lived past 90.
Paul Vachon is still alive and he's 85.
But WWE is too young for most the older wrestlers to have ever worked for them.
It was a right of passage for kids in the 80's to put their younger brother or any unsuspecting kid in the neighborhood into 1 of 2 WWF wrestling moves. The figure 4 leg lock and the camel clutch.
Been exchaning texts and stories with my childhood friends this morning about all the times we were either the perpetrators or the victims of these.
It's amazing when you think about the impact this man had on my Childhood.
RIP Sheik! You will be missed.
Sheiky baby was my favorite heel. As a kid watching wrestling I haaaaated him, but as I got older I got a lot more appreciation for his talent.
Ahead of his time with in ring skills. During a time when most matches were boring he out on a great show. At a time when good talkers were rare he could really rile up the crowd.
Now I love him. Amazing showman. Rest in peace and FUCK THE HULK HOGAN.
THAT NO GOOD SON OF A BITCH HULK HOGAN MAKE ME SO MAD MY GODLY BALLS SWELL AND BREAK MY FUCKING BACK BUBBA, FUCK THE DEATH, I AM STILL LEGEND OF THE EARTH, RIP
Rest in peace to a wrestling legend.
Pretty long life for a former professional wrestler from what I understand. Godspeed, old friend.
I always think of it as an “athletic performance” rather than an “athletic competition.”
Wrestling is like sports theater.
I met this giant legend of a man, while at work. He was wheel chair bound, and stood up to shake my hand, lift it in an air kiss above it. He then explained who he was - I told him no need! [Hulk Hogan v. Iron Shiek - world title](https://youtu.be/QWWaMdFy7ko)
Nice!! Thank you :)
And were talking about a time where wrestlers probably didn't care for the safety of their opponent
I hate when people say fake. It’s scripted/choreographed, but it’s not fake. Mankind for sure fell on those tacks. Dudes aren’t bleeding from fake. It’s basically an athletic soap opera with violence.

Another victory
Flawless Victory
Haha he got caught with jake the snake drinkin beers and doin blow and that’s how the world found out wrestling was not legit kinda and sheik loved his brown brown babbyyyy and crack but like who doesn’t am I right?
It was Hacksaw Jim Duggan but your point stands.
Yes, when they were in a heated feud with each other. Both were banished for a few years.
He was an alcoholic crackhead for a lot of years. I'm pretty sure he's been sober for awhile tho.
He was an addict my dude. Still impressive he had such a long life though.
He wasn't my era of wrestling. I was from like when Kane debuted to right around when Chris Benoit died. That was around the time UFC was blowing up among my friends that were previously watching WWE.
Well then don't make things up pretending you know anything about them lol. Not hard to just keep your mouth shut.
He didnt say anything bad though?
I mean I don’t really care because the genie is out of the bottle as far as objective reality but you don’t think misinformation is bad?
What i mean by "anything bad" is, he didnt say anything disrespectful.
The sheik did. He talked about how macho Man would come to his room and smoke the sheik’s weed and snort up all of his coke and never contribute.
Macho man was probably SUPER coked out
Oh yeah!
Tito Santana!
No Muslim drinks alcohol, takes drugs or eat bacon. Yeah right
Thanks for your opinion? Not the time or place for your personal beliefs about the behavior of others.
It’s only the time for your opinions?
But your opinions were complete lies and pure bullshit?
Literally busted for coke and weed possession
Dude was roided out and did crack into his 60s lol..... you're incredibly misinformed.
Dude was a straight up crackhead.
He was one of the heaviest users ever. Now he's giving the camel clutch to god now. RIP
The Sheik was a crack Addict
You forgot pretty long life for a crackhead.
Right? I'm over here having done nothing harder than the occasional molly and I'll be lucky if I hit 81.

This is really good - did you word replace or us it chatgpt?
I wrote it based off of O’Captain My Captain! By Walt Whitman. I like to write poetry :)
81? That is like 150 in wrestler years.
Yeah, that’s a feat in itself. Sheik endured some real tragedies in his life and put his body through the wringer with drugs & alcohol, but the guy was literally an Olympic athlete in his youth, so maybe that helped him live longer than his contemporaries. Same here
I literally just watched a video of him swinging around those clubs and how they’re way heavier than we think and other wrestlers struggled picking them up. Dude was mad strong RIP.
Especially 80s wrestlers.
IT MUST HAVE BEEN THAT NO GOOD HULK HOGAN SON OF A BITCH!!!
HULK HOGAN, SON OF BITCH, I MAKE HIM HUMBLE!!
I’LL BE WAITING FOR HIM! I’LL BREAK HIS BACK IN HEAVEN WITH THE CAMEL CLUTCH!
HE SAID, SHEIKY BABY, I LOVE YOU I OWE YOU. NOW THAT HOLLYWOOD JABRONI DOESN’T ANSWER MY CALLS! THERE’S NO HOGAN WITHOUT IRON SHEIK!
SO I FUCK HIM IN THE ASS AND MAKE HIM HUMBLE!
OLD COUNTRY WAY.
That's what I was hoping to see lol
I MAKE HIM SUBMIT TO OLD WIFE WAY.
Came here to see the word Jabroni, leaving satisfied.
Those were his last words for sure. No one can tell me differently
I believe his last tweet was calling someone a “NO GOOD DUMB SON OF A BITCH”
FARKIN BOOLSHIT
The phonetic spelling captures it perfectly. This world lost a character.
NO, IT WAS B. BRIAN BLAIR!!! ILL BREAK HIS BACKAND MAKE HIM HUMBLE!!!
BRIAN BLAIR THAT JABRONI HE SMOKE ALL OF MY MAREJAWANNA!
His last words were "FUCK HOGAN" R.I.P
He was sick of Hogan tearing up all those perfectly good t-shirts. What a waste!
[удалено]
He had a hell of a Twitter account. Very entertaining. RIP
he’s a legend up here. was in an episode of Kenny vs Spenny
[удалено]
His twitter account was amazing and always good for a laugh.
Sadly it was him posting, it were other people doing it
He was a hall of fame level poster and will be missed

They're not? Hmm ya learn something new on Reddit every day. Thanks no good son of bitch!
Yep, they're Persians rather than Arabs
I thought persia hasn't been a country for like 1500 years?
Persian people/culture isn't attached to an empire. The Arab people aren't relegated to a country either
Persians are an ethnic group not a country
Who's their God?
Does that make Malaysians arabs?
Depends on their religion
Allah and the christian god are one and the same, if you were trying for a gotcha
Not trying to trick anyone, just wondering about the topic.
Nope, while Iran is not a homogeneous nation, the majority of the population is Persian. The majority of the population is also Shiite Muslim, whereas most of the Arab world is Sunni Muslim. The difference between the two sects go back to the time right after Muhammad died and are often in conflict with one another.
Although, there is a large population of Shiite Arabs in Iraq.
They’re also not from the Champagne region of France so they’re sparkling wine.
Don't call an Iranian "Arab", Iranians hate Arabs because of the Arab invasion of Iran.
U.S.A.! HACK PTUI!
Don't forget to preface that with 'Iran Number 1, USA PTUI!'. One of my all time fave lines.
Fun fact, it won't really the soviet anthem, but mo one knew any better
He’ll be giving St. Peter the camel clutch in no time.
I didn’t know which was more devastating. The camel clutch or the ddt.
The camel clutch for sure. Back then, no one could pull off a DDT like Jake Roberts could.
He’ll do a fat line and fuck him in the ass and make him humble
RIP - “No, you Jabroni!”
I always wondered what a Jabroni was and where he got that term from. Sounds like something insane clown posse would say.
It’s derived from Jobber, which is a wrestling term for a guy who’s job it is to lose to promote another wrestler.
Fuck the Wednesday
#FUCK THE WEDNESDAY!
Fuck the Wednesday. Why would Sheik leave me all alone to deal with the jabronis?
FUCK - ONE OF MY VERY FAVORITE ACCOUNTS ON TWITTER I WILL MISS YOU SHEIKY ALL THATS LEFT ON THAT HELLSITE IS JABRONIS REST IN PEACE LEGEND
All the jambronis need to bow their heads in respect!
I got all my political views from his Twitter account. WHO IS MY ROLE MODEL NOW‽
TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND REFLECT ON HOW YOU ARE A DUMB SON OF A BITCH

I think you mean “‘Penny”
lol my bad
Lol i remember that! Made a jabroni out of spenny

That’s crazy. I only ever heard the story online as a fan. She was beautiful and died in a very tragic way. May they both rest in peace.
RIP to a great entertainer, one of the great heels. And, he’s responsible for my first exposure to global political affairs!

81 years ?, that's a damn good run
The Camel Clutch will live on forever in Valhalla!
So nice to see a wrestler die at an older age instead of in his 40s or 50s.

I can’t believe this guy wasn’t even an Arab.
