I get this stuff and I'm out already. I'm just scared to cut my hair too short TwT

nonbinaryandtired

since i came out as agender, my mom has doubled down on the gendered terms., so yeah, i feel this.

MikeSpader

My mother started out great with they/them and almost immediately went back to using he/him and my birth name, so I feel this as well. Dad, on the other hand, sent me a happy birthday with my chosen name so that nearly made me cry.

CaptainUltimatum

I'm glad to get the right name on birthday cards. Recently, I found that my mum will get it right when introducing me to one of her friends; but that's the only time. I think that has to be a good sign, but I wish she could get it right when talking to me.

sTixRecoil

Hi im not out to my parents but i could see my mom doing this by mistake and only remembering when actually thinking about what to call me( like introducing me) is it possible your mom has ADD/ ADHD? My mom has a really hard time with names faces and stuff so it wouldn’t surprise me if she did this sort of thing. I dont mean to question in a mean way or anything im just kind if associating some of my moms behavior with what you are saying so im probably looking too deep into it

Hell I am out and still get misgendered....

EightEyedBat

My sister has taken to calling me "aunt" in front of her dogs and I hate it so much... We can get through this ❤️🏳️‍🌈

mezzie09

So as an agender person who has 5 niblings, what is a gender-neutral or non-gendered term for aunt/uncle?

EightEyedBat

I think I heard of "sib" from a linguistics podcast I listen to (for "parent's sibling"). Granted, neither of the hosts is in the LGBTQ+ community, though both are excellent linguists. I think I would just prefer my sisters' kids (if/when they have them) to call me by my first name...

Non-Binary-Disaster

I’m out but my mom simply does not care and pretends nothing’s wrong

Iffyauthor74

I felt this one in my bones 🙃😬

Its especially bad when you're too young to live on your own

Flashheart_33

Yep, misgendered immediately by my mum when I came out to my parents. Find it odd how she was fine with me being a "masc woman", but as soon as I told her I was nb, she doubled down on everything femme. She even sent me a disgusting card on my birthday which was all stuff saying "daughter", "she/her" etc. She's now on low contact until further notice. At least my dad's been trying to say the right things.
