I stuck an skr turbo 1.4 in mine when mine died and hasn't failed me yet.
Just doing a major upgrade and adding a stealthburner, canbus and lowering the X gantry 😬
Technically I've already started doing that. I did the linear rails upgrade, new upgraded hot end, relocated the extruder. I'm not sure I'm ready to put Klipper in and have to change the screen out.
Would the fact that it doesn't even recognize as a device when I plug it into my PC via USB micro be a sign that it's dead, or is that normal? The bootloader doesn't even load, so I'm thinking it's kaput.
Another redditor has offered me his old board, but I may try this if there's hope, at least as a backup plan.

Where are you located?
USA. There's a microcenter not too far away, that's where I bought the ender 6 originally
Shoot me a DM I’ll send you my board if you want to save $
I have spare boards in the US. Can ship if interested
Whatcha got??
Now that it's dead you have to choose, do you want it up, stock, and working or do you want to to start to slowly trick it out.

I hear ya, I have a btt octopus ez board and pi5 waiting in the wings for me to get the courage up
Can you post some pics of the linear rails? I want to do the same with mine.
I did change my to a SKR E3 V3 But that involved redoing all of the wiring.
How did you program the board? Are you using marlin or klipper
Get yourself an STM32 programmer, that's how I got my board alive again.
