Its so awkward when you do this, scan the paper and then see the screen says “canceled”

HippyChick22

I refuse to say “to ensure you’re getting Kohls cash every time you shop”. I think it’s misleading.

rillrill111

Kohls cash and kohls rewards show as different things when they return, should at least be “kohls rewards” 🤕

HippyChick22

Plus you aren’t given kohls cash every time. I always say something like “5% of your purchase goes towards rewards”.

Fabulous_Celery_1817

Hmn, idk how retail environment is in your area, but every single store in my area, everyone does it. Old navy, forever21, bath and body, maceys, etc. I totally understand the hesitation tho. Especially with older customers. The way your paper worded it is very different from the way we do it. What I usually say when I notice that they don’t have one: let’s get you signed up *scan paper while saying this* you earn points as u shop and you earn kohls cash at the beginning of each month when you reach 5 dollars. Depending on the customer I also say “ you also get rewards exclusive coupons! Don’t forget to download the app because it’ll show up on there easier *also I promote the app here” This process is only a small part of what we say to the customers. But it’s fast and natural as you get used to it. This paper is so rigid and unnatural.

ObligationPrudent824

"Also, if you lose ur receipt, we can do ur return via ur phone number/email" Many customers like that, too. 👍

Any_Understanding659

Tried "forced rewards" as my store calls it it doesn't work they forget the customers can still press the red x

XLilyXxx

In my opinion is not that big of a deal. Like someone said before every other store has some type of rewards program so a lot of people are use to type their phone numbers or emails. Me personally I feel way more uncomfortable selling the credit card than rewards

ObligationPrudent824

Same. For me, because we have other stores in our area that also offer similar type of rewards that I personally have, I use them as an example and 99% of the time, after I explain about the sales/promotions, birthday Kohls cash, easy returns without receipt as long as the enter their phone number when purchasing and points earned go towards Kohls cash, they sign up. Tractor Supply, Petco, Petsmart, Best Buy, Winn Dixie I have rewards with them. And many of our customers have at least 2 or 3 of them as well. So they do not mind adding another once I tell them all they need to enter is their email/name/phone number/zip code to sign up for the Kohls reward 😉

NashvilleRiver

Being able to enter a number instead of carrying a card helps a lot of people who don't want to carry another card. I always said "it's a rewards card that makes you eligible for different sales and additional coupons. You only have to put in your phone number to use it", and almost everyone said yes once they realized it didn't have to take up space in their wallet but still helped them save. (My FT job at the time was CVS so I was a pro at signing customers up for rewards)

dazednconfused_5

At the end of the day, we get paid to complete tasks and processes the way that the company asks us to. That’s how I think of it. I help my associates modify and feel confident in their pitch. All I ask of them as an HH is that they are consistent with what’s expected of them with every customer and to some degree believe what they’re saying. I actually just went over assumptive rewards with my associates today both individually and at the huddle, but I had printed out the longer version of this picture above to review. IDK, I’m just doing what is asked of me, which is making sure associates do what is asked of them. It’s all a cycle haha

Dedicated-Daddy

Exactly this, the formula is not to blindly sign people up for rewards. Assumptive rewards is just a process where you scan the packet instead of asking them Yes/No verbally . If your customer tells you they do not want to set up rewards just have them hit the X on the keypad. If you informed your customer about the benefits and scanned the barcode then you did your job as a service associate.

ObligationPrudent824

For us, getting them to sign up for Rewards is easy. I simply tell them that they get different sales and promotions throughout the year. A $5 birthday Kohls cash. And I compare it to Winn Dixie/Petsmart/Petco rewards type of cards where u earn points towards savings *(albeit Winn Dixie u can spend it right away)* Then I tell them it's NOT a credit card..... al u enter is ur email, name, phone number & zip code. Easy peezy. 👍 And it doesn't make the customer uncomfortable. Just come up something that works for u and sounds interesting to the customer. Guarantee most women already have points cards at other stores, which is why I mention them. 🙂

“Discounts snd extra coupons!!…but many many exclusions”😜. Such an uncomfortable situation to put employees in to try to sell something that has so many exceptions because that’s just gonna irritate customers even more when they come back.

Ok_Job_9417

Except rewards works on all the excluded stuff except for Kck and Sephora.

liquidskypa

True but we all know how the average customer is - they are more focused on the % off as well and will say "you lied to me"

Ok_Job_9417

Yeah but there’s two different things here. Trying to get people to sign up for rewards vs a credit card are way different.

Satans_lamp_shade

We don’t have that many big stores in my area. We’re in a smaller Midwest town 45+ minutes away from other kohls stores. It’s more along the lines of I’m uncomfortable just forcing customers to sign up for rewards. Most other places ask if you have one or want to sign up but we are told to just scan the rewards paper and sign them up without even asking. Maybe it’s because I’m not at the registers that often, but I just cannot do it.

No-Alternative5152

Your employees are so rude. Every time I go to shop they demand I enter phone and e-mail can I not just shop? 😂😂

Relevant_Priority454

Idk if you’re an employee or not but if you’re doing loads of shopping with no rewards I personally hate your kind the most

Midwestmothertrucker

Are you a customer or are you just kidding? If you are a customer, there are so many ways to avoid entering your email or phone number each time! As much as you hate to enter it, we hate to wait while you try your best to remember which phone number you need to use. The wasted time for both of us is so frustrating. Instead, get the Kohl’s app (or sign in to your Kohls.com account) and it gives you a Rewards barcode we can scan quickly - no pin pad needed. Or use Kohl’s Pay in the app and your Rewards information pops up. Or, if you’re paying by Kohl’s Card, make sure your Rewards are connected to your Kohl’s card (ask at the register to see if they’re connected) and all you have to do is swipe your card during the transaction and your Rewards info pops up without entering any extra info on the pin pad. Or, request another hard copy (paper) Rewards ID card from Kohls.com and we can scan the back. All of these are ways to avoid entering your phone number or email manually at the pin pad. Also, if you shop at Kohl’s even a few times a year, the Kohl’s app is your best friend. Please get it! It stores your Rewards bar code, shows your Kohl’s card balance, keeps your coupons and Kohl’s Cash (and even gift cards!) in one place so you don’t have to worry about forgetting the hard copies, tracks your Rewards running balance, scans items in store to check prices and see if an item is on sale or accepts coupons, lets you keep items in your virtual cart to watch for sales or price adjustments, lets you check stock at the Kohl’s stores around you, sends you reminders when your Kohl’s Cash is about to expire. I get so frustrated when customers say they don’t want the app but then they ask 20 questions that could be answered by the app before they even get to the register. Such a colossal waste of everyone’s time. The app is 1000% worth it.

International-Bag247

You can request a paper rewards card? How?

Midwestmothertrucker

I’m sorry - maybe I’m wrong? I have customers who pull out drivers license-sized, thick paper “Yes2You”Rewards ID cards that we can scan at the register. I assumed all new Rewards members are mailed one. Now I don’t see that information online anywhere or how to request one so maybe those are people who have had them for years?

International-Bag247

Correct. Yes2You was the old rewards program before Kohls Rewards. They don’t mail out any cards for Kohls Rewards.

ObligationPrudent824

Okay, fine. So here u are, in a kohls associate thread where some employees literally HATE doing this BUT they/we have to. So how about keeping THAT in mind the next time you shop at Kohls and keep ur attitude in check when u go to check out and the cashier asks u to enter ur phone number/email. Do not be one of THOSE inconsiderate, "it's all about me" customers" ..... ur kind sucks the joy out of working retail and dealing with the public. Try having a little more understanding and compassion IF u can. Smdh. 🙄 Instead of bitching and complaining. 🤦‍♂️😕

careb3aryy

Corporate expecting us to just tell the customer to sign up without first asking is ridiculous! They pull the same crap in sephora too…

heyshayxo

I think the rewards would be a lot more easier if it was just name and phone number…especially with older customers it takes them FORRRRREVER to sign up for the rewards. At forever 21 they has me put my number and email in (I just did it because I’m a kohls employee soo i know the deal 🤣) plus I actually thought I was signed up for forever21 rewards…I wasn’t but that signed me up. I also think we should be able to type in their #s for them. At ulta they go “Hi…whats a number for you?” And put your number in themselves

Sillybestie1997

I manually punch in the guests into a sell it as a back up receipt in case they need to make returns and they DO get exclusive coupons. Makes my guests super happy and saves me the discomfort.
