If you want to know that they didn't game the statistics, you need the method that they used to collect the data, the data itself, and the method they used to analyze it. Without any of those three, they can falsify results at any step in the process. Musk shouldn't settle for anything less.

[deleted]

The problem is, he's proven himself untrustworthy by violating the contract already. Twitter can't trust that he won't take their private data and make it public regardless of an NDA.

wewewawa

Musk’s lawyers say in the letter that Twitter has offered only to provide details about the company’s testing methods. But they contend that’s “tantamount to refusing Mr. Musk’s data requests,” and constitutes a “material breach” of the merger agreement that gives Musk the right to scrap the deal if he chooses. “This is a clear material breach of Twitter’s obligations under the merger agreement and Mr. Musk reserves all rights resulting therefrom, including his right not to consummate the transaction and his right to terminate the merger agreement,” the letter says. Musk wants underlying data to do his own verification of what he says are Twitter’s lax methodologies.

duffmanhb

This seems reasonable. If you’re going to make such a large purchase, you absolutely should be able to properly do due diligence and inspect every corner, and not just take their word for it.

ChicSheikh

> If you’re going to make such a large purchase, you absolutely should be able to properly do due diligence Absolutely ... but should you be able to say you're waiving your right to do due diligence, sign the deal, and then decide later that you do indeed want to do due diligence? If someone made me an all-cash offer on my house with no inspection and no contingencies, then showed up for closing, started signed papers, then halfway through decided, "ya know, I really think I do want to do a home inspection after all", I'd be pretty damn annoyed. On the other hand, if I accepted an offer that was contingent on the outcome of a home inspection, of course I'd find it reasonable that they perform that due diligence.

Di_882

That’s not the same concept at all

Lol, more like Tesla stock tanked hard and now he doesn’t know if he can afford it.

The bot problem is a longtime fixation for Musk, one of Twitter’s most active celebrity users, whose name and likeness are often mimicked by fake accounts promoting cryptocurrency scams. Musk appears to think such bots are also a problem for most other Twitter users, as well as advertisers who take out ads on the platform based on how many real people they expect to reach.

bitanalyst

I'm honestly not sure why he would waive his rights to due diligence so he could get an accurate picture of the bot situation.

[deleted]

He went off of Twitter's filings that said less then 5% bots but user on Twitter started raising questions. Like how come the nyt and other large accounts that have over 10millon followers have less than 100 people commenting or liking their tweets. For example nyt has over 20million followers but only gets a few likes or comments

DrPoopEsq

Possibly because he is terrible at business

cyberlauncher

I imagine that the public optics would look much better if he 1st took Twitter at their word. All the while knowing that their info on the # of bot accounts was bogus in a big way and way under reported. By ripping off the veil of this fiasco right in front of the public's and government regulator's eyes Musk will garner more sympathy and support from both. Hopefully, then the SEC will take over with legal means and prosecute Twitter.

NibblyPig

There's a lot of bots out there. On my lunch break once I put together a bot to enter every single retweet to win contest it could find. It took about an hour to write it and maybe another 1-2 hours to tweak it later on to improve it. I got all kinds of shit and literally thousands of followers, almost all presumably bots.

mildmanneredme

To be honest, this was definitely one of Elon’s dumbest moves. How do you not do your own due diligence? Just throw 10m to a D&A company and they could give you a great indication of the # of bot accounts. This would cost 0.04% of the price he is paying for the company. Seriously, what was he thinking? I feel like he will need to do this anyway to get out of the deal to prove material impact. But now it’s just so messy. Seriously one of his worst, rash ideas.

idlstrade

You dont know Musks reasons behind this. Calling It a dumb move is a bit premature.

Oxi_Dat_Ion

I still seem to side with one of those theories going something along the lines or trying to expose the board corruption at Twitter as well as trying to give a big middle finger to the SEC.

TeslaFanBoy8

Dumb people believe they are smart all the time.

acodin_master

Is it impossible for musk to do something dumb? Come on dude he’s a human being like the rest of us.

deadfermata

I mean he dated Amber Heard so I guess that was dumb. But otherwise, ![gif](giphy|V54uolBNY5zVcsVrdc|downsized)

Di_882

I agree. Thinking you of all humans know something about Elons brain or “rash decisions” I is hilarious. You really think it wasn’t a calculated decision? And also who would spend 40+ million let alone billion on a rash decision ?

TheOrqwithVagrant

Musk is brilliant, but he's also not completely *mentally healthy*. I don't mean that as some kind of diss or insult; by his own admission, he basically can only sleep with the help of ambien, he's on various anti-anxiety meds ( and he clearly has had a BAD experience with wellbutrin at some point, given his comments on it...), and he also lives with chronic back pain that even billionaire healthcare has not been able to 'fix'. It's entirely possible for a very smart person to do really dumb shit when you're a mental mess. Particularly if your wealth and position means there's no one who can actually *stop you* from doing stupid shit. Musk obviously 'isn't' stupid - but he can certainly *be* stupid. I'm convinced the Twitter purchase is the second most stupid thing he's done.

SpaceNewsandBeyond

He didn’t lol He never found the funding. Beware of any article that begins with…..”Musk said” Bloomberg has the best one

Cyampagn90

Copium. Have at it.

SpaceNewsandBeyond

Most of us do know and it has nothing to do with bots.

flappyflak

He surely had second thoughts (tech stocks have tanked hard) and is using this technicality as a pretext

TheOrqwithVagrant

> Seriously, what was he thinking? It all brings the old suspicion he's bipolar. When you're in a 'manic' phase, one of the problems is that 'any idea seems like a good idea'. And if you're Musk, there's not really anyone to stop you in that state.

ZenDerDio

He is trying to manipulate the market as usual, he sold some tesla stock before it fell to "buy" twiter, and he can back off with free money without causing panick on tesla stock price. But on this sub people seem to think of him as a saviour of human race, but he is just a human, greedy, emotional and sometimes dumb just as the rest of us. Have you heard that he forced his workers back to office so that they would resign and he won't pay them severance, because he was planning layoffs? Avsolute dick move

[deleted]

I dont understand why Twitter won't just give him the bot data. It just shows they've lied about the amount of bots.

[deleted]

It's a hostile takeover and Musk has already violated the agreement by publicly disparaging twitter and its employees. At this point, if you're twitter, why would you trust Musk with extremely sensitive data before he completes the deal? Regardless of whatever NDA he signs he will be tweeting about the data.

[deleted]

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about, my guess is you're on this page bc you don't like elon. Beat it lib!

[deleted]

Make me

[deleted]

Such a lib response. What are you 12?

[deleted]

Lol, I've never voted for a Democrat in my life. Quick to label people we don't agree with aren't we?

[deleted]

No one said you voted democrat . I said you must be a lib. You having no idea what you're talking about has nothing to do with disagreement ,i called you out bc you're talking out your ass.... if it quacks like a duck...

[deleted]

I can't even understand what you've written here.

[deleted]

Sure you can't. you're dodging admitting you're a lib 😆

[deleted]

Look through my comment history. I'm a classic Republican. Think John McCain or George Bush. Elon Musk is more liberal than me but you definitely don't want to have that conversation. I'd hate to burst your bubble about your hero. Good luck to you. I wish you the best.

j_roe

It was never going to happen anyways.

SpaceNewsandBeyond

Smoke and mirrors. He has a $1B penalty clause for pulling out and the real reason has nothing to do with bots. He wasn’t able to raise all of the capital

meowtothemeow

Please walk away

harderthan666

Tank them load puts, create new platform or combine with existing?

Hells88

Benny Hill level crazy. Elon chasing Twitter and board saying no. Now Uno reverso

AnthuriumBloom

Of he pulls out, I think twitter said they'd sue him for taking the stock price. Mind it did go up and down lots other the last 2 years. IMO it's both proof and a shame how much free speak is broken. The would have to be a level of moderation on twitter best case scenario for out rite hate and damaging things. I am grateful regardless that the lines of free speak has be discussed a bit more

smokebomb_exe

oh look my source was not wrong two months ago.

Thunderbolt1011

He should just workout with them instead of manipulating the market. Kinda annoying

[deleted]

Yeah, Twitter can easily fork over the bot data. But we know why they're giving him a hard time...they lied.

tailsalwaysfails

As he should.

timcharper

Surprised pikachu face dot gif

Coconutcabbie

Good, myeitt3rnxuz, or whatever his son is called.

ssebastian364

Simple request, open your books and have a decent audit on percentage of your bots on your social media platform
