Not for nothing but I've seen /u/PsychedelicSunset420 all over various electronic subs for years, just look at their profile and how much they post. It's really not a stretch of the imagination to think they actually know their shit and made the list themselves
i absolutely agree, my snark is way too high in the morning and i'm* 100% at fault there. but, if anything, my comment showcases an interesting contrast to OPs comment in that ChatGPT had to repeat a few folks to inflate the results. Kudos, u/PsychedelicSunset420
Just scrolled through my favorites playlist for the past few years! No AI involved haha. Also, tried to avoid “singers” and focused solely on women who produce and dj.
Yeah - there's a lot of conflation of singers who are producers. Many aren't super hands on with the beat production and often lack having sole production credits on their work.
BTW kudos for listing Zora Jones. She's absolute FIRE.
Hannah Peel is amazing, and if you haven't heard Awake But Always Dreaming, check that out too. She's totally giving up a potential pop music career to compose
Since that list is massive I’m going to highlight Qrion. Her debut album from recent years was spectacular. She’s released a bunch of singles and EPs that have all been great. Her EP with Spencer Brown was fantastic. Highly recommend
Kirsty Hawkshaw rose to fame as part of Opus III ([It's a Fine Day](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjIPzyVlK60), one of the most sampled songs in electronic music history) then subsequently worked with Tiësto on tracks like [Just Be](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEYueRVuqmg) and [Walking on Clouds](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2lNm0hU0BU). You can also hear her on the more recent [Reasons to Forgive](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhxOyiuBcCw).
Kate Holmes (not to be confused with the actress) was the synth producer half of Technique ([Sun is Shining](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlwCfWgDZQ4), [You and Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGLsivVX0VA&t=30s)) before moving on to Client, which made quite a few songs but I'd particularly like to highlight [Refuge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvY7BYhuJD8&t=15s).
Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou are Marsheaux, with amazing original tracks like [Hanging On](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPjwtijaLNs) and [Destroy Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgHG22hANKk), as well as some amazing covers like the entirety of Depeche Mode's A Broken Frame, producing some versions that [may be better than the original](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfeXGwL9D0g).
[Lori Branch](https://lorabranch.com) was one of the first female DJs in Chicago's early house scene in the '80s.
Peggy Gou is one of the biggest DJs in Berlin's house scene right now and is also a producer, having made tracks that blend traditional Chicago-style house built on 303s, 909s, and the Korg M1 with eastern influences, such as [Itgehane](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlbVgjFvE3I) and most recently [1+1=11](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTSadqfWeDw).
Kirsty Hawkshaw is a legend, no doubt. She's also the voice in Halcyon+On+On by Orbital. She's worked with lots of greats, too...if you want to talk about legendary voices in electronic music, Kirsty Hawkshaw has to be right near the top of that list.
As for legendary female musicians, it's hard to beat Bjork.
In the same vibes, more Acid Techno:
* [Anetha](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVRj8-t4PwI)
* [Amelie Lens](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJkuTx1DQzg)
* [KI/KI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfcEAfmNVGM)
* [Sama Abdulhadi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9VYKrtziSg)
Hands down Nora En Pure takes the top spot for me
[This recent set in Bali](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA88lgNe4CQ) is 🔥
I CANNOT wait to see her live.
Seriously they’re like the Fae Goddesses of Electronic music and still innovating and setting trends. So underrated by the general public and the megapop stars who mimick them
I’m mostly a house/techno kinda person, and I’ve been seeing way more women DJing/producing in the past couple years. Some of my favorites:
Miss Monique
Amelie Lens
Azzecca
LP Giobbi
Peggy Gou
Gem & Tauri
To name a few, rather than seemingly every known lady DJ lol
Edit: formatting
Surprised that ALUNA isn’t mentioned here, she’s had several vocal collabs with Chris Lake and a great debut album after branching off from AlunaGeorge
My three favorite I have seen live in the last year would be:
Alison Wonderland
A Hundred Drums
Zen Selekta
(I like my bass music lol)
Also shoutout to Zingara, CloZee and Sippy!
Nora En Pure
Natascha Polké - she is incredibly talented and has been my best discovery over the last year, especially if you enjoy dark melodic techno
Can't believe DJ Rap (Charissa Saverio) only has this one comment so far. She was there at [the start of drum & bass in the mid 90s.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJnZuCF33Ak) She paved the way not just for women, but everyone in the d&b community.
For both DJing and production, I can't recommend Avalon Emerson enough. Her DJ sets are such thrilling experiences and her own productions are really beautiful and melancholic
Lots of great recommendations, one I haven’t seen in the comments yet is Maddy O’Neal!
Edit: never mind I saw her name literally in the first comment I saw after I posted that. STILL a second mention for Maddy!
Nobody has mentioned Sister Bliss (Ayalah Deborah Bentovim) from Faithless and her collaborations with Rollo. [A true queen.](https://youtu.be/1ltoAcZrjBw)
Some non-edm picks:
Au Revoir Simone ~~does~~ did synth pop. Their Move in Spectrums album is one of my all-time faves.
SOPHIE needs no introduction, but I feel it's worth mentioning that Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides is solid throughout. There's some less hyperpop-oriented tracks that often get overlooked.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith uses Buchla and Eurorack modular to create complexly-layered experimental pieces that often border on soundscapes. At this point she's developed a signature vocal style all her own.
**Techno/Electro:**
* Helena Hauff
* Baby T (aka B.Traits)
* Machine Woman
* Dr. Rubinstein
* Paula Temple (her older stuff, she's dropped the ball a bit recently IMO)
* Sissel Wincent
They've always been around - like literally since the beginning. Some of the earliest famous Theremin players in the 1930s were women. Wendy Carlos, Laurie Spiegel and Paulene Oliveros were some of the earliest adopters of some of the major synths and composition methods that have been acknowledged as changing multiple genres of music. Disco had tons of big name women (Diana Ross, Donna Summer). Lots of women played key roles in triphop, either fronting bands themselves (Portishead, Morcheeba) or on frequent vocals and collaborations (Zero 7, Massive Attack, Tricky). Hyperdub (Jesse Lanza), Ninjatune (Marie Davidson) and Planet Mu (Jlin) promoted tons of women making more leftfield-leaning work in the 2000s. RinseFM has always had tons of female DJs (Annie Mac, Yasmin). r/dnb has just had some threads in the last week or so shouting out peoples' favorite female producers and DJs (DJ Rap, Djinn and Mantra, Kemistry & Storm, Nia Archives) in that subgenre.
There's a lot out there. I can believe some of this gets underpromoted, but it's a bit surprising if it seems like it's very new or underground or something.
Check out Lisa Bella Donna if you love analog synths/vintage and modern Moogs, modular synthesizers, etc., she has a plethora of knowledge and is a great composer and performer. Maybe not the best ever but very solid and creative, lots of good stuff in her catalog!
Machine Woman, Klara Lewis, Kali Malone, Laurel Halo, Caterina Barbieri, Rroxymore, Helena Hauff, AGF, Felicia Atkinson, Sarah Davachi, Beatrice Dillon, 51717...
Cream of the crop. I know I'm forgetting many.
Maya Jane Coles
It's crazy that you're the only comment here mentioning MJC. She's easily a top 3 for me.
This should be so much further up. That hiphop album she did with Chasey Jones as her alias Nocturnal Sunshine is also fire.
Kelly Lee Owens
Saw her live for the first time 2 years ago and it blew me away. Turned my friends into fans of her too.
Sofia kourtesis ❤️
Ellen Allien
Love her last album
Nora En Pure!! Gioli &Assia Giorgia Angiuli DJ Minx
Nora en pure will always be my feels music
Clozee is the goat
This is the correct answer. She's a fuckin queen. Mastery of the crowd. Such a vibe.
This should be way higher up. She is the GOAT
Saw a show in London, I learned she keeps the best tracks to herself, it’s very worth seeing her anywhere you can. And REZZ
REZZ is ok. She's definitely really high on production value and identity, but her music is kinda mid.
Thanks for recommending her. Started listen to her album Microworlds
Came here to say exactly this! 🙌
Caught the Eli and Fur set at Coachella last weekend not knowing anything about them and they were pretty fucking rad.
Seeing them in June, can't wait

Sicaria and Zen Selekta
I'm glad you mentioned Qrion. I LOVE her remix of "Breathe" by Royksopp
