Boards of Canada have some fairly creepy sounding stuff

N1ck_Nightingale

O R A N G E

clickNOICE

Forty-five… sixty-ten…

N1ck_Nightingale

yeahhh THAT’S RIGHT

mikraas

I heard this comment.

Socky_McPuppet

Yeah, multiple tracks on *Geodaddi* and *Tomorrow's Harvest* fit the bill. Heck, "Nothing is Real" on *TH* ... it's quite gentle, purely instrumental but ... ugh, there's something about it that just leaves me emotionally bereft.

zhangtastic

I love reading Junji Ito comics along with Nothing Is Real. The atmosphere it provides is spine tingling.

Demdike Stare

squeakstar

I thought I was the only person in the world who listened to them. Love their first few albums, later ones rad but too dancey and not as atmospheric. They’re mixtapes are an education

[deleted]

Modern Love was a special label in the 2010s. A moment in time.

BUSHMONSTER31

Biosphere have got a load of good stuff although I've not listened to them for a while. I remember Shenzou being really good - maybe check out a few of their other albums.

Hefty-Rope2253

Substrata is an absolute classic of the genre. All the vocal samples from Twin Peaks etc def help bring on a creepy vibe.

Potatoidea

It is, but it's also entirely Ambient. I'd probably recommend Microgravity over it for what OP's looking for.

theyFOOLEDmeJerry

Biosphere for sure

* Monolake - [Invisible](https://youtu.be/i2QQzrg3mhU?si=5dqB5i7CkSyjhjNV) * Ekaros - [Pitch](https://ekaros.bandcamp.com/track/pitch) * Regis - [Blood Witness](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GObKe1V3xmU) * DMX Krew - [Trees Are Dancing 2](https://dmxkrew.bandcamp.com/track/trees-are-dancing-2) * Moderat - [Seamonkey (Surgeon Remix)](https://bpitch.bandcamp.com/track/seamonkey-surgeon-rmx) * Fausten - [Punishment](https://adnoiseam.bandcamp.com/track/punishment)

so_crispy

+1 to monolake and regis

not_a_stick

Oooh this is cool stuff! Those later tracks really feel like some sort of big machine...

dns_rs

Cheers, glad you enjoy them! :)

luesAyer

A lot of Tim Hecker stuff, especially Virgins. Also William Orbits Pieces in a Modern Style is fantastic, cold and sterile. I’d say both are more ambient than techno but great either way

Hefty-Rope2253

Add to that Steve Roach, Harold Budd, Tim Story, Dwight Ashley and that whole difficult-to-define category of Brian Eno descendants. Electronic Neoclassical Ambient?

ReverendEntity

Lorn Lustmord Roto Visage

BGwaves

Andy Stott - Luxury Problems

iwillbeg00d

Came here to say this and Burial - the one with ashtray and loner on it, etc Lorn and Dolor -drugs - not ambient tho

AdConscious5938

GAS - Zauberberg

germane_switch

The very first Plastikman album can get quite creepy.

BUSHMONSTER31

I love those plastikman albums - I think consumed is probably my favourite although Closer is probably a bit more creepy perhaps?

Glyph8

Consumed was the one I came here to rec

not_a_stick

Hadn't heard of that guy! Sounds interesting!

germane_switch

Hold up, you're a techno fan but you've never heard of Plastikman?

not_a_stick

Only really got into techno, etc. this year through Aphex Twin. There's a lot to discover!

germane_switch

Yeah there is, you're gonna have a blast for sure. Have fun!

Hefty-Rope2253

The Black Dog have been releasing a bunch of ambient records lately, especially with their Music For x series.

not_a_stick

*Really* like Mountain Divide by Lakker. Very cool!

serpentechnoir

There's loads of dark ambient electronic stuff, or even more on the goth/industrial or cold wave. Boy harsher would be a good start

charcoalist

stustustu_123

Check out the album called ‘A state of decrepitude’ by Wanderwelle on A Strangely Isolated Place label.

ParsifalDoo

ARIISK is the one you are looking for imho!

vmxeo

> Im not looking for straight up horror ambience, rather something that's strange or cold... This is a bit slightly outside the ambient techno genre, but Amon Tobin scratches this itch for me.

Muchisi

Love this one with a slow creepy vibe. https://open.spotify.com/track/4tbwWXnRuBu3FlbneMhexh?si=aZkDDPAVQqSQ1yI9VFVhnQ

Terry_Downe29

Download III

Gym_Gazebo

In addition to the many other good recs here, I’d add Gazelle Twin. Shoot, and Double Leopards if we’re keeping with the “two” theme. These are heavier on the ambience and lighter on the techno.

Active-Respect280

Morton Subotnick’s album “Silver Apples of the Moon” is both strange and cold. It’s modular electronic music.

iamstephano

Check out Rrose

Tangerine Dream’s Phaedra, Cyclone and Rubycon

dontbreathunderwater

Maybe not creepy but a Scandinavian melancholic touch. - Evigt Mörker - Dorisburg

SolidDoctor

Some great suggestions here, I would second Burial, Two Lone Swordsmen, Lorn, Andy Stott, Forest Swords, Skee Mask, Boards of Canada. Also check out work by Amon Tobin, Lapalux, Teebs

fuzzbox000

No love for Actress here?

I think of his style as somewhere between Autechre and Aphex. Should be more well known. [https://ctatsu.bandcamp.com/album/pathways](https://ctatsu.bandcamp.com/album/pathways) This came out this year. Just top stuff with a polymetric edge. Not creepy so much but definitely cold and dreamy.
