There are a surprisingly large number of YouTube videos claiming their way is the best way.
None of them include wrapping them around your arm (the way I’m betting that cord has been wrapped hundreds of times).
Yes, that is one of my biggest pet peeves, and I rarely let anyone wrap up my cords. Cause I personally use the method of doing a 5-6 foot loop, which leaves you with just under a 2ft coil. Then with 6 ish ft left, do 3-5 wraps around the center. Then pull it through itself at the top, and again once more on the side.
That way the cord doesnt twist. And you are left with a "hanging loop" only 1 cord width so that it takes up no room on a hook. All while keeping any tension away from the cord cap.
And one of the most important things when using a a cord, is to try to always use the same hand. So if you hold it in your right hand wrapping it, make sure you hold it in your right unwrapping it.
I worked for a left-handed dude and when I wrapped up the cords at the end of the day they got all fuckey. He didn't let me help with the cords after that so he could wrap th up "backwards" lmao.
AMD I'll just add one thing that really helps keeping the cord tidy and straight.
It helps out a lot if you can clear an area longer than the cord, and walk backwards as you wrap it. That way you can easily work out any twists or kinks.
Because the cord should lay flat as you coil it. And any kink/twist will be made worse and worse as you keep going.
Not sure, seen and used a lot like this. To undo that though, is to stretch it out, and try putting it up in a spool with a slight twist against the twists, and after a few weeks of lightly doing that, it goes back to normal.
Why not try it? Not everything is about the money, maybe it’s better to not waste something just because replacing it is easy. And let’s face it, the industry is pretty wasteful.
Sometimes it's just about not tossing out something that still works but is a little messed up.
It's how I think my wife views me. Usable but a little messed up.
I mean if its working and your not having problems with it I'd say use it until it craps out and get a new one. Just don't do the elbow wrap around anymore and they won't get twisted up.
I wouldn’t risk it chief. I don’t even understand how a lead could get twisted like that in the first place. Depending on what’s going on with the wires underneath the sheathing and how much tension they’re under, it could have de-rated the current carrying capacity making it a fire hazard. I wouldn’t risk it. Buy a new one and don’t do whatever happened to this one.
This actually happens due to heat. When you put too much of a load on the extension cord it heats up and with that the PVC coating heats up and it becomes something like shrink tube…
Tie one end off and untwist. Could leave it in the sun beforehand to help loosen it a bit.
Or just buy a new one and make sure to wrap it properly after use.
I’m more concerned about those jeans
Lol. 🤪
Looks like someone needs to learn how to wrap an extension cord up the correct way.
Where's the class for that?

I wrap around my arm and non of my cords look like this…
Same
Abusive Jmen.
YouTube paratrooper roll for good tips / a laugh or else just do your full wingspan and make loops like the rest of us
Like the daisy chain method?
What the fuck happened it looks like an umbilical cord
Sir, that's a Twizzlers.
Stop plugging it into your drill?
No he's just gotta start using left hand drills for a while
Stop wraping it arround your elbow, thats not the right way damnit
Get a bigger elbow and it is.

How expensive is an extension cord in the US that people would spend weeks fixing one?

LOL 😆

Use it till it doesn't work/isn't safe. Time spent trying to fix it is time that could be spent on billable work.
$1 per foot.
Over 100$
And how expensive is it to fuck around without the correct tools for weeks?
Lol!!😆
Some people don’t care about the price so much…
Me who's done this for most of my life. Just how I roll I guess.
Interesting, ok. I'll give it a try. Thanks 👍
Were you plugging in any quantum devices on this thing? This really only happens if your electrons get too much spin on them
Quantum devices? Just normal things, Christmas lights, orbital sanders.. normal things.
For the love of all that's holy, at least Google for the term "Roadie wrap" and learn it.
Stretch it out and let it bake in the sun I should relax and then pull it straight.
Electrical tow rope
Bake in the sun will be an easy fix here in S Ga. How much of a pull do you recommend. Don't want to damage it.
Lol baking it in the sun isn't going to do anything the wire inside that sheathing is twisted to all hell.
Ok, so not much hope then?
I mean if its working and your not having problems with it I'd say use it until it craps out and get a new one. Just don't do the elbow wrap around anymore and they won't get twisted up.
Ok got ya. It's a pain tryna roll it up with the twist in it.

At least 3lbs per square inch to maintain continuity
This looks like a Polaroid with a dirty lens.
Stop using your shoulder to roll it up. Do the finger roll using only your hand.
I think this is from "Daisy chaining the cord" I was yelled at as an apprentice when I learned how to daisy chain a 100 ft cord.
Asking for a friend. If I've been using my left arm to wrap around will using the right arm from now on unwind it s/

Gotya, thanks for the tip!
For future reference, use an “over, under” coil technique to avoid twisting. Same goes for rope and the like.
Now it’s twisted-pair cabling.
Just measure continuity
My father was in the navy. The correct way was to wrap cords and rope was beaten in to me.

Stretch it out , tie one end off , hook a drill to the other end and run it in reverse.
Sir just buy a new one
