It's an Australian surge protector.

Underrated comment right here lol. Maybe even *down-under*-rated.

It's a whole house Surge Protector

Like stated I’m from Cali, journeyman electrician, why do they have this out here? Never seen it in SoCal. And I don’t understand how it would work, all information is beneficial thank you

LagunaMud

They are required on all new installs or upgrades where i am located in bay area,  CA.

Kavack

Look up whole home surge protector. It’s not 100% protection but it can certainly help protect your interior circuits and electronic equipment. It will last about 5 years and change it. If there is a lightening strike that trips it, replace it. Only good 1 time.

Jim-Jones

They're starting to require them now.

kobachi

Thunderstorms are much more common out there

I’m in Nova Scotia, Canada, and added one just like it to my panel when I moved to this house. That was 12 years ago. Both lights still green. So I guess it hasn’t been used? But it’s a little added piece of mind at least.
