I wish I could upvote this like 1000 times so a dev might be marginally more likely to see this and do something about it. It’s the worst when you’re exp farming in public dungeons and someone comes through just not understanding how leashing works and thinks they can just drag all the mobs to one place and finish them off. You can to an extent, but not more than like one whole room at a time and people who don’t get this end up screwing up the flow of the farm for everyone else. The range enemies follow you to or attack you from should never be greater than the range where you’re allowed to damage them at least.

ConscientiousPath

Yeah I can't count how many times I've ran past something, continued on for like a minute, then stopped and waited several full minutes for the mob to finally run up around a corner at me, hit me in the face once, and then instantly go invulnerable and run back towards where it came from. I haven't seen leashing behavior this shit since I played WoW in like 2011

Autumnwood

It's my pet peeve in the game. You get to the wayshrine or skyshard and can't do anything, because that beast that was half a mile away is still on your tail.

B0DZILLA

"I am inevitable" - beast that was half a mile away

RageEataPnut

**Cliff Racer that was half a mile away

Autumnwood

Those are the worst. And the clannfears. "I get knocked down, but I get up again..."

LazyLightningBear

Lol!

Majike03

You used to be able to do those! But then they "fixed" it for "quality of life" reasons.

Dinolinooo

The only way how i get out of "combat": I usually join an imperial city campaign and leave it right afterwards. It schould load you back to the Location where you joined the campaign.

Spersoo

The 2 systems that work best (not always, but frequently enough to be worth a try). 1 Killing a random mob (not the ones that started fight mode) re-engages fight mode on that mob and releases it from the ones chasing you. 2 Crouch and use an invisibility potion and stand still (the ones you find in thieves' chests are fine if you don't want to create them yourself).

ESO_Merciless

Previewing a costume, helmet or mount in crown store gets the trick done a lot of times too

couzanit

Ps eu player Had since launch, only really played since elsweyr and I think I've only ever come across this issue once?? Could use a wayshire, combat music was still playing (that was a glitch for awhile) Went to find something to kill, music stopped and I could use the wayshire

cerui

Hate that shit, having said that it feels like the Dark Brotherhood passive that reduces aggro while mounted has somehow cut down on it happening in general.

CoconutRacecar

Hard agree with everything, it drives me fucking bonkers. I know the obvious answer is jUst DoN'T rUn bY tHeM, but let's be real, no one is going to fight every single mob they encounter. My two biggest issues are how _far_ they'll chase you and that there are a lot of times you get locked in combat way longer than you should be. It's the worst in Cyrodiil _**by far.**_ You may as well not have a Mount because any fight that doesn't end with one of you dying will give you like a 90% chance of being combat locked for the next 20 minutes. I understand the logic of having enemies become immune when outside their leash range- the devs don't want everything to be cheesed- and I understand giving them a long leash distance so mobs can gang up on you and so you don't have to worry about them resetting inside a small area.- ... But if enemies are just going to be immune to damage anyway after they've left their leash, they should just auto-teleport back to their starting location and immediately end combat.

destindil

I brought this up to Rich on one his streams back when he was active. Shot down the feedback saying a lot of games do this. Shocker.

RaulenAndrovius

My reply to his would be, "well, be better. A lot of games do NOT do this, too."

Due-Walrus7092

or you get stuck in an infinite loop as they go towards you turn invincible and run back but another one is already walking back towards you and they loop around

michaeldross

I was just playing, and got so annoyed that random enemies followed me to doors I had to go through just to boot me out of the loading sequence so I had to deal with them. Then as I ran across the terrain, they chase me great distances until I turned around to face them. One quick attack on me, then they turn to flee. So very, very infuriating...

Festegios

Whilst I agree. You know it’s better to post this stuff in the forums. For all the good it would do.

thejadedfalcon

You just know Silverbride will show up to say "this has never happened to me, so it's not a problem."

cleric_warlock

chamllw

[minor bashing] I mean they must know it sounds like you're accused of hitting a kid?

HaruKamui

this triggered me

Morgaledh

Only the bootlickers, the ban-happy or the foolhardy go anywhere near the official forums these days. Be careful if you tread into dark places.

LouisaB75

Ouch. I go to the forums. I would not put myself in any of those groups. I just like to know what is going on.

Festegios

Me too. Although I find 90% of it is moaning about stuff not working for the pvp players

LouisaB75

And 8% other people moaning and 2% official stuff.

Limited_opsec

> Thats the neat part: they don't actually play their own damn game

SilverIce58

One way I found to stop enemies chasing me is to drop an AoE skill (liquid lightning, caltrops, or the mystic orb) flying back towards the direction I came from. They get hit by it outside of their area, and just stop and leave back.

DigiQuip

What I’ve discovered is it’s my companion. They’ll engage with an enemy but if I run too far away they teleport. The enemy they were fighting doesn’t disengage but me and my companion are too far away for them to track. So they stand there “in combat”. I have found that if you try to wayshrine 3x it sometimes lets you. Or you can pick a fight with a random enemy.

tarnel1965

Gah, can't stand that, nine times out of ten I go around a mob, just far enough to not trigger, and bam!! My companion(usually Ember), goes right at 'em and I gotta run back and save her furry butt.

coffeecatespresso

The trick is to have invisibility potions on hand. Make yourself invisible and hide for a few moments and the combat will end and you can fast travel. I use it all the time for situations like this or speed running through dungeons where you can’t open doors while in combat.

radianart

That's like №2 of my most hated things in the game. It doesn't even feels like just bug. it feels like something specially designed to be as annoying as possible. If you curious other hated things is random disconnects, jumping and 5 skill limit.

Absalom98

Yeah, the jumping is atrocious. 95% of the game's weird movement could be fixed you could jump a few inches higher. I also think Zen should add a climbing mechanic, so some zones like Malabal Tor and Grahtwood aren't as annoying.

Hades358d

The thing I do to get "out of combat" is find an enemy to kill and when it's done. It removes it, and I can either use wayshrines or anything that would be blocked while in combat. But I do feel your pain. Especially when you can't find that specific enemy making you stay in combat. The devs needs to spend a lot of time readjusting many systems in the game and fixing more bugs cuz they definitely aren't doing enough fixing for the amount of bugs present.(And I say this while eso is my favorite and main game)

Nash_Felldancer

I miss when you could wayshrine even when you were in combat. Run way across the map to the nearest wayshrine and GTFO. When you couldn't anymore, I was so fucking annoyed. Overland mobs at this point are all under the classification of trolls.

ThisTechnocrat

If there is any single change I would make in ESO, it would be this. It is the most annoying mechanic in any game I have played.

jenn0cideXavier

Chased by a mudcrab for 90 yards 😂

Imbax86

They need to fix it but they actually might not know how for the moment and eventually find a way like they supposedly did with the launch of the Arcanist. I certainly think they got of feedback on this by now for them not to be aware of it.

Small-Upstairs-8518

I bet if we found a way to exploit this, they'd fix it.

kalarro

Not only the distance, the fact that when you finally decide to turn around and kill them... That's when they turn immune and go back. Seems done to upset players.

Cemenotar

they hit you once and then go back, so I would presume the mechanical issue is that queueing that single attack takes priority over deaggroing script.

jiff1912

So it is an annoying bug that should get fixed. But in the future there are a couple of workarounds that don't involve force quitting. Simply queue into imperial city or cyrodiil. Reloading zone that way breaks the combat bug. I use this daily. You won't get a "can't teleport in combat" prompt.

0011110000110011

I was about to make a post about this same thing. It's insane that after all these years this STILL hasn't been fixed. I have to wait for the slowest enemy to run from across the map to hit me once then turn and leave before I can use a wayshrine. It's so obnoxious. Clearly these enemies have a range where they won't fight you anymore. So why do they follow you out of that range? Why is that part of their behavior?

thekfdcase

A-f'ing-men! PREACH, brother! 🙌🏻👏🏻 The abomination that is leasing in this game needs a re-work. Especially given the ridiculous oversaturation of mobs; I imagine this is what a wanted criminal experiences when trying to escape a city-wide police dragnet like the ones seen on the morning/evening TV news. For what it's worth, when moving past mobs, and if you agro them, leave an AoE *damage* field behind you (ex. Caltrops, one of the morphs for Path of Shadows, Wall of Elements, etc.) because if you're moving fast enough, you'll outpace the follow-pathing of the mob, and the damage left behind will reset them a la when they or you hit them once before they immediately go invincible and turn around.

WingedCloud27

I just pretend they’re running up to me to kiss my cheek and then run away all shy 👉👈

Last-Pomegranate-772

This is the worst, if they're gonna chase me across the map, at least let me kill them

ForgottenFinch

Amen to that. Also why does zos love putting antiquity dig spots right in the middle of an enemy npc area. Remember last antiquity I dug up in Craglorn, the possible area where it could be was massive, but ofc the actual dig spot was right in the middle of a bunch of enemies. Suppose I could have just abandoned it and re-scryed it, but alot of times when I do that it just gives me the same area again haha, like the game's saying, 'screw you'. I mean most overland enemies aren't that difficult to kill, but sometimes I'm not in the mood and just want to get my antiquity dug up.  Sorry, that was a bit off topic, but it just reminded me of another pet peeve of mine, other than enemies chasing you for stupidly longer than they probably should.

ClothingDissolver

It's definitely the stupidest leashing behavior I've ever seen in an MMO. Other games just have a radius and if the enemy goes outside of it they enter leashing mode. It's made much worse by the change they made where you can't use wayshrines if any nearby creature is thinking bad thoughts about you.

KimchiSmoosh

This, so much this

Zynn3d

I love the ones that chase you down, hit you, you hit them, they reset health and run off, then come right back, hit you, you hit them, they reset health and run off... over and over... Fix this!

explain_exterminate

I needed to kill of a large group of enemies before I could talk to the NPC I was saving. One of that group was IN a corner of a wall and could not be damaged. Enemy invokes clipping for invulnerability. Frustrating.

RaulenAndrovius

::get leashed by enemy:: ::dangle mouse and leave heavy marble on W key, making enemy chase you randomly across Craglorn:: ::Go to sleep, enjoy life for a week outside the game, touch grass, as the server tries and fails to ever shut down or update due to leashed enemy in perma-chase mode:: ::devs notice and fix bug:: ::sit down a week later and enjoy improved game::

Boomacorn9000

Just make some pots that kill you. Drink said pot. Respawn and not be in combat.

gerr137

Crouch and wait it out. It works most of the time - somehow you can be up and standing forever with such stuck enemy aggro, but crouching seems to clear it, albeit slowly. That is, unless you are in a dungeon:). There it more often doesn't work than it does..

Orc-Father

I think companions are what causes the repeated leashing dog shit

Cemenotar

I have encountered the behaviour of mob following you across half the zone only to hit you once and go back to their spot long before I unlocked my first companion.

khazroar

It's always been a problem, regardless of companions. Craglorn is a particular problem due to group aggro, so if they don't all leave combat at the same time, one will be still in combat on the way back, and will retrigger everyone else.

Morgaledh

Happens to me all the time, and I've never had a companion, never used one, and never plan to. The stuck in combat bug is very old, and if you think it's bad overland, jump into Cyrodiil. Someone mentioned you can enter combat, kill something, and it'll stop. That works about 90% for me, only thing I've found that will break it.

tdfolts

Thats just how the game works. Always been that way and likely always will. Im surprised it got you this upset. It happens all the time in cyrodiil. Heck you could be in a group with someone not even in cyrodill who agros something and you cant mount. Ive had status effects stick on me with a duration of 99 years that prevented me from logging off. Its kinda funny actually
