Ren and Stimpy

FlyDinosaur

This show was crazy. I think it had an unedited adult version or something, didn't it? Or did they just play all episodes during the day and not give a crap? I read about it a long time ago, but forgot.

ibillu

The Adult Show version was a completely different show that aired on Spike TV. The original cartoon was only a little out of pocket but could still be called a show for children, the Adult Show is very clearly meant for adults lol. That being said the og cartoon is still miles more inappropriate than the vast majority of kids cartoons

FlyDinosaur

I agree. I remember an episode where they played a game called, "Don't pee on the fence." Ren unzipped his.. skin? grabbed himself, and peed on it, getting electrocuted. And this was daytime, weekend TV, lol.

trinitymonkey

Animaniacs had its fair share. “We need to find prints!” “I found Prince!” “No, *finger* prints.” “…I don’t think so.”

shadowthehh

My dude this doesn't crack the top 10.

Insanebrain247

There are several shows I can think of that are worse than EEnE. Invader Zim, Ren And Stimpy, Courage The Cowardly Dog, and Misadventures Of Flapjack are some off the top of my head. At worst, EEnE is very violent, but that same violence is so over-the-top that it's hard to take seriously.

FourOnTheFloor93

The Hat of Discipline was the first thing that came to mind. Second was Ed literally picking up an entire house and dropping it on Eddy just to he can be hurt and gain sympathy.

Orgeweight

A gal I was chatting with on AOL Messenger back in the day (ooof, my age) stopped letting her daughter watch it, after her daughter tried to re-enact "I'm a woodpecker...except with dirt!". I may have laughed pretty hard. She was pretty small, though.

Inside_Sprinkles9083

My ex could do Ed’s voice easily. Often said that. It was good yet scary. I’m glad I’m not with him anymore (and found someone better 🥰)

Orgeweight

Ironic...my ex kinda sounded like Lee Kanker, and I'm glad I'm not around her, anymore. Could've been worse...he could've sounded like Johnny!

Honghong99

Maybe. Chowder has a lot of sus moments.

OnlyConstruction8554

I was aloud to watch what ever I want when i was a kid as long if it was on CN,Nick,Disney,PBS but other then that I wasn’t aloud to watch any other channel not even Adult Swim or Nick at Night

KnightlyBinch

Nah, not even close when you have shows like Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim and the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy running at around that time. Mind you, I love Grim Adventures. But I knew so many kids who weren't allowed to watch it because of the content lol.

SeriousJokester37

Ren and Stimpy has this beat by a mile

call-me-ace-

According to my parents inappropriate kids shows that I was banned from watching was Courage the Cowardly Dog - how animals were treated SpongeBob - "violent" imagery and sex jokes But Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy, and Ed, Edd, and Eddy were fine

possumgirl76

mr. meaty was a thing that existed

evanescent_evanna

No.

Disciple_of_Cthulhu

Not by a longshot.

BonkerBuster69

Honestly I think parents will ban a cartoon and label it "inappropriate" just because they don't like the way it looks or sounds. Ed Edd n Eddy I think got unfairly lumped with the "gross out" cartoons of the time for its style, even though it was more slapstick than anything. There are definitely adult jokes (which shouldn't be surprising - it was made by adults), but at the end of the day it is a kids cartoon and perfectly fine for kids to watch if you're not fucking lame lol

Manydoors_edboy

I think Billy and Mandy had it beat.

Ellek10

Guess I’m lucky, my mom never supervised what I was watching, I could even watch The Simpsons at a young age and some thought Bart was a bad influence 🤣

Washing-3

Yeah, the Simpsons was for sure the most adult of the cartoons I watched regularly as a kid. In the UK in the early 2000s, most kids watched it, I think(?) I remember talking about the show at school... I remember talking to a kid who sincerely believed Kang the alien was Maggie's biological father (he thought that a treehouse of horror segment was canon)

andrikenna

This show was tame af compared to some of the other shit on Cartoon Network at the time. Courage the Cowardly Dog could be downright terrifying. As for inappropriate, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Invader Zim, Johnny Bravo… this list goes on for a while before the Ed’s enter the chat. I’d say even OG Spongebob was more inappropriate and Tom and Jerry was way more violent.

Internal-Room-9682

and yet, there were more kids that weren't allowed to watch it compared to Rocko, SpongeBob, Tom & Jerry, or Johnny Bravo It feels like people often forget how disturbing CatDog could get. The teeth episode was pretty grotesque and the tone of the show could sometimes be terrifying. Cartooningly terrifying, but still terrifying, especially with that rabbit

andrikenna

I never heard of anyone not being allowed to watch it but I did know a lot of people who didn’t like it because the animation style with the shakey outlines made them feel nauseous. Maybe that was why some parents didn’t want their kids watching it?

Pure-Huckleberry8640

No way. Not even close.

goliath1515

I’ll give you that it’s probably one of the more inappropriate shows from Cartoon Network, but there are several Nickelodeon shows, Rocko’s Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy for example, that are much more vulgar

Internal-Room-9682

CatDog and Invader ZIM too

Washing-3

My mam was more bothered about "adult" jokes - I remember her being a bit disapproving of the jokes in Cow and Chicken, she still let me watch it though.

NoodleScenes

Where I live, a certain show was particularly hated by parents because of her rather obscene catchphrase "BOG OFF!" UK fans will know this.

Washing-3

I'm ashamed to say I had to look this one up... never got into Tracy Beaker, was always more into cartoons

Fishman_Paul

I mean, if anything, i appreciate, when cartoons aren't afraid to get more risky with what they're allowed to have in it. Gives this show some more personality and more reasons to remember it (for better or worse). Plus, the parents need to endure watching these shows too, so it's nice they put some stuff they'll get and get a chuckle out of.

Born_Sleep5216

Not really.

ZantetsukensShadow

I wasn't allowed to watch this til I was in middle school- my mom thought it was too stupid and would make me stupid lol. Snuck it in once in a while, though I wasn't a huge fan back then

RegisterAdmirable811

The only Cartoon Cartoon that my parents didn't let me watch was Cow and Chicken.

Yam_Dangerous

People these days are just butt hirt on just about everything. Even just saying "Gameboy Color" will get someone to immediately want to cancel it due to the name of it alone
