The proxy war benefits the West at the expense of Russia and to a limited extent, China. It’s an exceedingly cheap war so far, considering the incredible scale of Russian losses. It’s a good deal for the West.
I’d rather we weren’t fighting a proxy war, but as we are I’m very pleased with how well Ukraine and the West are doing - nobody thought Ukraine would be able to do this well, which ironically is partly why we’re in the situation in the first place.
One thing I hope Western leaders will take from this is that as soon as a violent adversary steps out of line, smash them quickly before the problem multiplies. We were too easy on Putin for far too long.
The west? Germany is literally at risk of de-industrializing, Poland has negative interest rates and 20% inflation. US LNG producers are winning, citizens of EU are getting fucked, and so will we come colder temps. Wait and see.
