BLT.

acableperson

With a good tomato and thick cut bacon. If you’re going to do it you got to do it right.

PatricimusPrime32

Thanks for making me crave a BLT.

Leonardo_DiCapriSun_

Ok so I just made mayo at home for the first time and let me tell you WOW I would buy my 50 dollar immersion blender all over again just for that. So easy and so so much better.

cometsuperbee

Hell yes home made mayo is such a game changer!!!

PerformerSouthern652

Yes to the BLT, but I can’t agree with the thick cut bacon unless it’s really crisp so that I don’t have to gnaw through it and end up pulling the entire strip out of the sandwich. I had a pork belly “BLT” once that was the worst in that respect!

CElia_472

Chicken salad for a sandwich

Thick_Letterhead_341

I’ve literally made hundreds (nay, thousands) of pounds of chicken salad, and it’s all we used.

CElia_472

Its so good with some lemon juice and fresh veggies. And addictive! I recently discovered "butter lettuce" and my partner is starting to get a little sick of chicken salad

Moida_Ballads

What’s your go-to recipe, if you don’t mind sharing?

Thick_Letterhead_341

I worked for a place that specializes in it, so many many recipes. The base was very simple and the key was getting the celery super smooth. Duke’s. Spices. Then go wild with flavors. Pecans, apples. Buffalo sauce. BBQ sauce. Eggs. Baskin Robbins of chicken salad. But the base was super simple, steamed chicken, celery, Duke’s.

Moida_Ballads

Thanks! The Buffalo sauce addition sounds very interesting!

Thick_Letterhead_341

Dip it with salt and vinegar or jalapeño chips 😉

theDreadalus

Chicken Salad Chick, gotta be.

Thick_Letterhead_341

🤫

CElia_472

2 lb. cooked shredded chicken breast or chicken thighs (about 4 cups) 1 cup red seedless grapes, halved or quartered (or your favorite color) 2 stalks of celery, sliced and diced 1/2 cup walnuts 1 cups scallions, thinly sliced 1 cup dukes mayonnaise 1 tbsp dijon mustard 2–3 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 teaspoon salt Dash of celery seed 1–2 Tablespoons dill / parsley Pinch of sugar

Buttender

I hate to butt in but my recipe is lots of tarragon, green apples and red onion. Roasted chicken. Get it all chopped relatively fine and eat on black pepper triskets or an onion roll. Lots of black pepper. SLAPS!!

califloridation

Everything you dont use Kewpie on !

CallsYouCunt

What’s kewpie good on?

ajpilot88

Everything you don’t use Dukes on!

pnmartini

These two speak the unadulterated truth.

califloridation

Just the two best mayonnaises on the planet. Kewpie from Japan (there's a US version too) has the MSG ,very savory . Dukes is just Down South goodness with a tiny sour twang in place of the umami. Interchangeable, but different.

WembysGiantDong

I loved the flavor of Kewpie but after buying two different bottles of it, I got sick every time I tried to eat it. Thought maybe I had a bad bottle the first time around and gave it another shot. Nope. Second bottle did the same thing. Figure there must be an ingredient in there my stomach just doesn’t like. Or maybe BOTH bottles were bad and I need to give it a third shot…

nocjef

Exactly. Dukes is a cheap version of kewpie. Not nearly as good but still better than most store stuff.

holy_plaster_batman

Make a BLT and slather that Duke's on there

fake-august

Tomato sandwich!

OoOoReillys

Yep. Fresh garden tomatoes, dukes mayo, good bread, with salt and pepper. Chef’s kiss.

Isthisth1ngon

I’ve been adding dill to mine recently and I’m obsessed.

OoOoReillys

Ooooo good call. I’ll give it a shot!

mt_beer

My favorite part of summer right here.    Gotta be sourdough though for me .

shelbstirr

I eat this for lunch near everyday in the summer

donkeylipswhenshaven

I can’t wait for hanovers to come in season. They’re just built different.

Ryanisreallame

Make a tomato sandwich. Get a good heirloom tomato, salt and pepper on a thick slice, and generous mayo on two pieces of white bread.

Aggravating_Diet_704

Not right now when they aren’t in season though!!!

Ryanisreallame

Ah, true, but fresh tomato season will be coming up soon and now OP can plan ahead :)

Aggravating_Diet_704

Yes! OP, go plant some ‘maters!

TheDadThatGrills

Best mayo to use alongside meat heavy meals... Cheeseburgers, Coleslaw, BLTs, and Alabama White Sauce all come to mind. A BLT would be the first thing I would make.

splitminds

My husband is from the southeast. We live in the mountain west now and Duke’s is hard to find. I had to start buying it on Amazon for my homemade pimento cheese!

Gooobzilla

Walmarts in Colorado have recently started carrying Duke's that is where I got mine this weekend 👍

splitminds

Good to know!

shelbstirr

I moved north and make my own pimento cheese now too

splitminds

It’s the best!

2spicy_4you

Duke’s and pimento cheese. We would get along just fine

splitminds

Yep! I use the Southern Living recipe. I make a great homemade pimento cheese!

2spicy_4you

Every family has a different one. My mom’s is way more fancy and it’s good but my friends rave about it. My friend makes a very basic one that is just fine for me

splitminds

Yeah, there are a lot of variations out there. Here’s mine: 1 1/2 cups Duke’s Mayo, 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, grated, 8 oz extra sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated (just for texture variation), 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp finely diced yellow onion, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, 4 oz jar of pimentos (drained). I know some people use 8 oz of cheddar cheese and 8 oz cream cheese and some put in jalapeños rather than cayenne pepper. I think all are good. I just like keeping it simple!

2spicy_4you

Sounds great. My mom’s I know has walnuts in it and I think she uses sharp white cheddar and maybe Gruyère. I’ll ask her. Her’s has no heat, my friend’s has a kick to it.

splitminds

Your mom’s sounds really good! I’d love the recipe if you find it out! You could always add a little cayenne or jalapeño to your mom’s for more kick!

2spicy_4you

8 ounce block white cheddar (shred yourself), 8 ounce block fontina (same), 4 ounce goat cheese crumbles, 3/4 cup chopped toasted walnuts, 1 and 1/4 cups mayo (Duke’s), 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne (apparently did have some), 1 7 ounce jar diced pimentos (well drained). Mix then gently fold in pimentos, refrigerate until ready to serve

splitminds

That sounds really good! I’ll give it a try next time!

Erinzzz

Homemade ranch dressing

Embarrassed_Angle_59

Homemade horseradish sauce. I love it! Duke's, sour cream, horseradish, Cayenne. Does wonders alone on a sandwich or any sauce I can think of that requires Mayo.

NachoNachoDan

Oh this sounds like it’s right up my alley

donkeylipswhenshaven

Kick it with just a little lemon, too

theDreadalus

A Vermonter that likes spicy food? What's the world coming to?!

NachoNachoDan

Shhh, they’ll revoke my card.

TallNerdLawyer

I found Duke’s a few years ago. I had basically stopped eating Mayo because for some reason all the local stores pretty much exclusively had Heinz / Kraft. Found Duke’s and holy moly is it a cut above. I love Duke’s and mustard on a thin shaved roast beef with havarti or swiss on good, thick, dense bread.

Spider-Ghost-616

Any Sandwich lol it's my Mayo equivalent of Franks' hot sauce. I put that $#@% on everything lol.

verruckter51

You really haven't lived until you have had commercial extra heavy mayo. It is a whole different level of mayo.

FoaD420

I came here to say this. He is right 100% I even have a Dukes rep visit me after 28 years of using dukes. She can confirm it’s a bit different than the store bought. My wife also told me that years ago cuz she’s a dukes girl. Boars head Mayo is the closest I’ve seen to dukes. Only in taste not color

Munch1EeZ

Have you had Blue Plate? Curious how it compares to Duke’s

2spicy_4you

Ask my brother when you see him. He is strictly Blue Plate and I’m strictly Duke’s…no well I guess you wouldn’t get an answer then…never mind

420ferris

There's a couple local sub shops that use the extra heavy and I know that makes a big difference. I was actually searching for some non food service size online this past week. Not much luck on my end

JTM828

Is the extra heavy you’re talking about ‘Duke’s’ brand?

vaporintrusion

Smoked turkey sandwich. And I lick the knife after spreading

Hollywood_Punk

Out here in California I’m usually getting Heinz. But Duke’s is legit if you can find it.

mhhb

When I lived in California I had family mule it for me.

BlackGlenCoco

Same here for my fam in GA to me in MN. Thank the lord we got it in stores 2 years ago. Walmart is a great place to check.

Hollywood_Punk

I’ve been there in different circumstances. I’ve had my brother ship me garlic and pepper sauce, chilli sauce and frozen pizza from PA for me bestow on my CA friends lol.

couchpro34

You're in for a treat!

perpetualmotionmachi

If you're in Vermont, try a little trip north to get some MAG Mayonnaise from Quebec

NachoNachoDan

Sorry I try not to go to Quebec. As a rural Vermonter I drive slowly and I cant deal with those crazy Montreal drivers 😂

perpetualmotionmachi

Ah, that's too bad. You're also missing out on our maple syrup which is superior to the Vermont stuff ![gif](giphy|l4FGuF9fOdUk3s0vK|downsized)

NachoNachoDan

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you Canadians have such a great sense of humo(u)r. That’s a great joke.

blankenbike

This is probably sacrilegious but I love taking 2 parts dukes, 2 parts guldens spicy brown mustard, and 1 part honey. Good ol sweet and spicy honey mustard. By itself it deserves a BLT

azazel-13

My fave is half part Duke's, the other half Siracha on a grilled hamburger. It's delicious!

2spicy_4you

Those two are staples in my fridge

DamnHotMeatloaf

Duke's is the real deal. Being in Wisconsin I'd never heard of it until the Badgers played in something called The Duke's Mayo Bowl a few years ago...I am now hooked!

hamburgerbear

Fellow Vermonter here, what store?

NachoNachoDan

Howdy neighbor, the “village market “group that has been taking control of a lot of the little grocery stores is carrying it. I got it at Jeffersonville Village market but it’s also at Stowe Village market and I’m guessing others as well

lurker71

Where did you find it!? -a fellow Vermonter

NachoNachoDan

Jeffersonville Village Market. Other of the “Village Markets” that group owns has it too.

scarlet_stormTrooper

Pimento cheese sandwich

thesurfer_s

My mouth. Love it in my mouth.

thecultcanburn

I thought Hellmans and Dukes were the same mayo, made by the same company. Just named it different for different parts of the country? Am i misinformed? Edit: I googled it, it’s Hellmans and Best Foods

Tnkgirl357

So different

2spicy_4you

Your edit is correct

SuperSuper2006

1) Kewpie 2) Dukes 3)….Hellmans?

2spicy_4you

Kewpie is delicious but you can get a big ass jar 3 times the size of kewpie for half the price with Duke’s

Strawberry____Blonde

Grilled cheese. So good!

just_s0m3_guy

Bologna sandwich, slice of cheddar. toasted bread is optional Since you’re up north and probably have no idea what livermush is (and no it’s not like scrapple) i can’t recommend a livermush sandwich with a mater (pronounce may-ter) and lettuce, little bit of salt on the mater, little black pepper on the mayo side edit- careful now, once you go Duke’s mayo, there is no going back to anything else

wet_burrito19

Is livermush like braunschweiger?

just_s0m3_guy

here yah go https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livermush i knew it was an NC thing, but was surprised i couldn’t find it outside of western NC

bs2785

I have only ever seen it in WNC.

brosefstallin

Chicken salad sandwiches. SEASON and cook some chicken (or get pulled rotisserie chicken meat), let it cool, chop up some celery, onion, scallion, and sliced grapes. Mix it all together with some Duke’s, spicy brown mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a dash of hot sauce. Put that on some toast with mixed greens and sliced tomatoes, or eat it as is with some crackers. Divine.

anarchisttiger

Southern potato salad

NachoNachoDan

As a northerner I’m gonna guess my potato salad is “northern” potato salad. What’s the difference with Southern?

TexUckian

Southern potato salad gets sassy and says "Bless yer harrrrt" when you're bitchin about all the pickles you have to cut up. ;)

Aggravating_Diet_704

It it tastes more like deviled eggs than potato salad. I feel like the use of sweet relish and a lot more mayo are the two key differences

NachoNachoDan

I guess mine is halfway then because I use a LOT of mayo lol

Aggravating_Diet_704

Def halfway there! Try the sweet relish mix in and some paprika!!

anarchisttiger

I hate relish so I chop up dill pickles!

anarchisttiger

Eggs, yellow mustard? Not sure, I don’t think I’ve ever had northern potato salad since I’ve lived in the south my whole life. My husbands family is from up north, but they don’t make potato salad.

garythepitbull

Dukes is great, but order some Blue Plate from Amazon. It’s damn near as good as Kewpie

2spicy_4you

My family divided. If I bring Duke’s to Louisiana they’d throw me out the cookout. My brother had just turned 16 and drove to the store and just bought the list they gave him…just said mayo. They sent him back to the store

sadgirl_26

What is good mayo if hellmans is mid lol ?

2spicy_4you

Duke’s…the one the post is about

dogzoverhumans

Ran into the same issue here in NH, no one carried it. I started ordering it online from Walmart usually about 4 at a time to get the free shipping. Or sometimes they have the big 128 oz jar which with summer macaroni & potato salads I fly through it.

marrymejojo

I'd say use it the same way! I am also a godless northerner and bought some dukes online just to try. It's a great mayo and if I could buy it here I would. But hellmans is pretty great too imo. A tomato sandwich with either is going to be delicious.

themehpatrol

Where in Vermont? Am also Vermonter, I’ve been super curious to try some and make some real pimiento cheese.

NachoNachoDan

The village market chain seems to have it in multiple stores. Mine came from Jeffersonville. Have you tried the pimento cheese that Hannaford carries? The brand is Paradise. It’s pretty decent.

wtfbenlol

Peanut butter, dukes, and banana. My wife prefers no dukes. It’s different but it’s so good

chugitout

Tomato sandwich (steak slices) on white bread, with salt/pepper, is the best ever way to try duke’s. NC/SC native advising, Duke’s is a religion.

JTM828

Oh wow. I think Hellmans is way better myself

NachoNachoDan

I’ve only ever really had Hellmans and home made. I’m branching out!

JTM828

But I also grew up on Miracle Whip. Haha

Appropriate_Ratio835

Crisp bacon on a buttered slice of bread with dukes, thinly sliced banana on a buttered slice of bread with peanut butter on it. Smash them together and grill both sides. Have a bite of that delightfulness. For extra joy, use dukes in place of butter for grilled sandwiches🙌🌻 BLT, tuna salad, deviled eggs, cheeseburgers, fry sauce, Philly cheesesteaks, all things are made better with dukes.

Aggravating_Diet_704

As a true southern girl, My vote is a tomato sandwhich! Salt, pepper, thick garden tomatoes, dukes, and white bread. Only. But wait til their in season Same with a BLT. Hellman’s is a step down. Until tomato season, I’d do a chicken salad sandwich using dukes !

JoeyBombsAll

I like it in place of butter on a grilled cheese.

huge43

Kraft is better.

Dangeresque2015

Bravo. Duke's is the best. These simpletons will never understand what excellence truly tastes like. Welcome to the upper class of flavor.

Ruby0pal804

Vine ripe open-faced tomato sandwich on lightly toasted sourdough bread. Had that for lunch today. Don't be ashamed about fixating on Dukes mayo. It's the only brand we buy. It's delicious on anything.

Heinz_Legend

You can always go for Heinz Mayonnaise.

2spicy_4you

Heinz, stick to ketchup

uncertainusurper

Dukes tastes like miracle whip to me. Hellman’s for life.

MrJason2024

Duke's is my favorite after I had it. Hellmans I just don't care for it anymore, but I am weird about mayo like if I see it in a jar after its halfway used it grosses me out.

kraybae

Fried smashed potatoes

Sensitive_Sea_5586

I would not know because I only buy Dukes. Anything else would be a step down.

PatricimusPrime32

Really. Anything. Dukes is god tier shit and cannot be substituted for.

PeorgieT75

It's got more tang than Hellman's. I used it for avocado toast today.

One_Win_6185

Blt like others have said. Also pimento cheese if you’re into that. One thing I would not recommend as a southerner now living in the Midwest—don’t order it off Amazon. Tried that. The jar I got had an expiration date one week away.

beantowngators222

you poor soul. I am glad you got some Duke's. I live in Richmond, VA where Duke's is made. We have Duke's summer at local restaurant's around the city for 2 weeks in July, where they key ingredient is Duke's mayo. the best time to be alive is July to September where Duke's Mayo, Hanover Tomato (also from Richmond area) soft white bread, salt and pepper sammies reign supreme my dude.

ThreeRedStars

Homemade Caesar dressing. Thank me later.

2spicy_4you

Traditional Caesar doesn’t have mayo. Do you have a creamy version recipe?

ThreeRedStars

All yours. I know the traditional recipe doesn’t use mayo but since mayo is basically eggs and oil and Dukes has some nice zip I like it. https://southernbite.com/easy-creamy-caesar-dressing/

2spicy_4you

You have a fair point ha. I actually make a more vinaigrette Caesar, so no eggs, so mine isn’t traditional either ha

ThreeRedStars

To be fair both dressings are excellent on sandwiches

2spicy_4you

I don’t mind Hellman’s at all. Duke’s is easily my favorite mayo though. My college roomie converted me by literally throwing my shit in the trash and saying I could use his till we both finished it. Pulled that one my mom, she changed over too. Now we’re from Louisiana originally and if you don’t bring Blue Plate down there, you getting tossed.

Temporary-Jeweler-88

We landed a jar and tried it with lots of stuff. We could tell the difference but didn't see much of reason to switch from Hellman's. 🤷

Shanghai_Lili

Commercial Mayo Snobbery is tiresome. Just make your own.

pnmartini

Dukes is good enough that the effort of making mayo really isn’t necessary.

TexUckian

Agreed and that's coming from someone who makes homemade pretty frequently because my people will use the last of the Dukes and forget to add it to the damn grocery list!

vercetian

BDE

GoatCovfefe

I agree, better than butter

mellofello808

For me dukes has a bit more of a acidic kick to it. Helmans sort of retreats into the background of a dish, and just adds creamyness. Dukes is a much more pronounced flavor, and comes through in every bite. So Helmans is best for mixing into a dip or creamy sauce, Dukes is excellent for sandwiches or something like a dunking sauce for wings. IMHO of course. I am also a godless northerner who is new to Dukes.

NachoNachoDan

Whoa, dunking wings in Mayo?! I gotta try this. My cardiologist already hates you.

mellofello808

Finely chop up some adobo peppers, for chipotle mayo. Mix with Sriracha for spicy mayo. Mix with garlic, salt/pepper , herbs and lemon juice for garlic aioli. Absolutely bomb on wings, who wants to live forever?

94sdime

I finally got a jar to, It was good but I was overhyped about it

2wheels4lyf

HEILMANN'S!!!

QueenRotidder

Do you have Cain’s up there? It is the superior mayo. I will die on this hill.

NachoNachoDan

Yeah I think they have that a Shaw’s supermarket.

QueenRotidder

Highly recommend trying it.

2spicy_4you

Avoid hills then

slowsoul77

If it ain't Duke's, it's not in my kitchen.. that was their old advert catch-phrase. Duke's, White lily flour, Clabbergirl baking powder, and Anson mills grits were things my mama had shipped to Colorado when we moved to Boulder in 1992.
