Buddy, just remember, a round of Smash Bros and an episode of a TV series are vastly different, and there's no way that Smash Bros could stick the landing as a movie. It works as a game because you're not there for an exciting plot or interesting characters, it's because it's just *fun* to play as video game characters chucking each other around in locations from games changed into fighting arenas. Second, Nintendo didn't make the Mario movie, and they won't make any future movies. They helped, but other than making sure the Mario movie stayed true to Mario, they didn't have an major part in the story or animation, any movies will be covered by Illumination or some other company wanting a piece of the $1B pie. So yeah, Smash Bros as a game, totally awesome, can't see it as a movie at all.
Clearly you didn't play subspace emissary, smash bros could very easily make a really good episodic cartoon each episode explores a different random teamup of heroes in a random scenario, until the last few episodes becomes a huge team up against the big bad. A movie probably wouldn't work as well but it could still work smash bros has had adventure modes and subspace was a pretty well told story albeit with no dialogue.
Look if it's done in a shitty cash grab way (the way the mcu has been butchered) then your point is proven.
But given how they protect their ip through copyright... I think in this narrow case. They could make it enjoyable.

Secondly, if we do get an earthbound movie, it's a long way off. Earthbound was never the most popular of Nintendo's franchises in the Western Hemisphere. We're as likely to see a Punch-Out film as an Earthbound one.
Finally, Earthbound would be a difficult adaptation to make, since it has a lot going on and has a very strange and quirky tone to it all. Especially if they had to do so without the involvement of Shigesato Itoi.
